Two birds one stone that fell short

Psy: Nice hint there. :P But that\'s not the idea I had with this.

“Why are we here again?” Gary questioned, glancing about the power plant. He didn\'t really like the brainless stare of the magnemite, nor their buzzing and floating. But, Angel wanted to be here, and that was good enough for him. At least for now.

“I want a Magnemite...” she replied, sitting herself against a nearby wall. “They\'re perfect for the league, really; they have the power of an electric type and that nice backbone of steel, and that nice immunity to ground. Magneton is even stronger. I can also use the Magnezone when I get to the Johto league, if I decide to go there. And, from what Amelio told me, the perfect one should come find me.” Gary blinked, and took a seat next to her. He wasn\'t going to argue with her, even if that seemed to defeat the purpose of the battle-and-catch idea of raising pokemon. Amelio, or more appropriately, Mewtwo, closed the gap between him and the others as he leaned against a nearby wall, silently saying nothing as Moonlight kept his distance. There was something amiss with that dark feline, and he couldn\'t quite place it. He knew the seeds of evil had been layed within him, and had been there a good long time; enough to foster a possessive, angry, and jealous nature over his human. But, there was something else – something deeper. But, he couldn\'t place it without delving through his mind and memories, and he wasn\'t so certain that Moonlight would be very receptive to that idea. He\'d have to watch him closely, for the same darkness that boiled within Moonlight was also within him; but, it was well sealed and controlled within him, part by the Aura, and part by his will – but, Moonlight wasn\'t controlling it, nor was it being affected by the Aura of his – of THEIR trainer. Mewtwo slid a calculating eye at the pokemon, whom lay curled up lazilly on the ground, well on the other side out of reach. Something evil grew in him, and he didn\'t like it.

“AHH!” Angel shouted, the exclamation injecting straight through his thoughts. He snapped his eyes up, to see her and the human boy backing away. Moonlight flew up off his haunches, and whirled past him, and as he turned to look, Mewtwo saw the cause of the fright.

“MAGNEMIIIIITE.” chanted a large throng of Magnemite. Thirty, maybe fourty – and leading the pack was a rather obvious shiny Magnemite. They seemed to be attracted enmasse to Angel\'s Aura, and were following her. Moonlight let loose a strong Psychic, and Mewtwo wasted no time letting loose his own Barrier. He placed one, then two, then four, boxing in the floating masses of Mangemite. The Barrier only went up so high, and the gap at the top was just enough for the Magnemite to escape one at a time towards Angel.

“Hey, this is a good chance! GO POKEBALLS!” she shouted, tossing in her empty pokeballs, one by one. Not all of them caught, but by the time Angel had run out of pokeballs and the Barriers had worn off, a newly collected pile twenty Magnemite lay on the floor. Slowly, as programmed, the pokeballs began to disappear into the storage system, Moonlight and Amelio wasted no time finishing off the rest of the Magnemite in the energy center. Oddly, Moonlight made a point to keep away from Mewtwo, and had even tried hard to KO the Magnemite in his scope. He made no contest, and simply ignored it. “What on earth was all that about?” Angel exclaimed, picking up the two remaining pokeballs off the floor. One was a Timer Ball, the other was an Ultra Ball.

“No kidding! It was like someone shut off the power plant and you were the only generator left on!” Gary replied, glancing around the power plant as if he were expecting more to come.

~I believe,~ Mewtwo \'spoke\', staring at a fainted Magneton on the floor. ~On some level, that is exactly what happened. While life-based pokemon are in control of their emotions, pokemon like Magnemite that are based on computers, don\'t have emotions, and survive based on an input basis. That is why they hover around this place; they, like the other electric pokemon, are attracted here because of the mass ammounts of electricity. Perhaps, in Angel\'s case, they are not able to resist Angel\'s Aura, and seek her like a moth to the flame.~

“I guess that makes sense. I guess I should be wary of computer pokemon! At least there\'s only three evo\'s to deal with.”

“Why catch all those pokemon though? Ash did that with Tauros.” Gary asked, as Moonlight flopped down again.

“Well, these Magnemite will be for a good cause! Professor Oak and I are having a buinsess that gives starter pokemon to every child who needs one. If I hadn\'t\'ve had a chance to catch Moonlight, then I would never have been a trainer, ever. There are kids out there who have no chance of catching a pokemon; this is going to change that.”

“He\'ll have a large basis to start from...”

“I hope so. And I got myself another Shiny! Whichever ball it\'s in...”

~The ultra ball.~ Mewtwo commented, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Well, let\'s get going! I have another Gym Leader to beat!”

* * * * *

“It looks like you\'re going to be my Dollies yet.” Sabrina spoke, as her level 48 Alakazam ripped a last Psychic into the figure of Slaughter. Moonlight had been easilly taken down by a Focus Blast, and Anarchy had been too busy keeping a close eye on Mewtwo, and had flown straight into a Focus Blast of his own. Her new pokemon, which hadn\'t even gotten a nickname yet, wasn\'t battle-ready quite yet. “I only have one pokemon – you cannot defeat him? You haven\'t even gotten one strike in This is far too easy.”

“It\'s not game over yet! You haven\'t seen my secret weapon!”

“I hope it isn\'t another illegal pokemon. I won\'t tolerate another illegal.”

“Oh no, he\'s legit. Are you ready, Amelio?” Mewtwo, whom had been leaning against a nearby wall, stepped forward, slowly. He nodded to her, as Sabrina tilted her head.

“You aren\'t allowed to call on another trainer\'s pokemon...” she began to object, as Mewtwo focused on the lighting. His mind plucked the filaments out of every bulb, making the gym fall into a shroud of darkness.

~I AM NOT A TRAINER.~ he spoke to the leader\'s mind. Her Alakazam cringed at the volume and intensity, as the emergency lighting came on. There he stood, the cloak keeping his figure in darkness. ~I AM YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!~ barked, and tossed off the cloak, leaving it to flutter to the floor aside Angel.

Sabrina\'s eyes widened. “Where did you get that pokemon? That pokemon isn\'t supposed to exist! That is a pokemon of Myth!”

“Lets just say I have connections. AMELIO, ATTACK!” Angel commanded, pointing her finger forwards. She honestly had no clue what Mewtwo\'s other attacks were, outside Barrier and Psychic. Barrier would be changing soon enough though. Mewtwo raised his right paw as the Alakazam backed away. He stood no chance against this powerhouse pokemon, and he knew it.

“ALAKAZAM, USE--” Sabrina started, but even before the command left her mouth, a large orb of darkness flew from Mewtwo\'s paw. The Shadow Ball slammed into the fully evolved Alakazam, and even though the pokemon braced against it and fought to stay in place, he was KO-ed before he even hit the wall. Sabrina stared at the pokemon that had completely owned her prized Alakazam, and had almost literally fallen off the pages of the books of myth. “...I lost. But being able to see such a pokemon as he was worth the sacrifice. I thank you for bringing him here. I confer upon you the Pokemon League Marsh Badge.”

Angel cleared the distance between her and Sabrina, and claimed the badge. “I expect you\'ll keep this a secret? We wouldn\'t want my connections to come after you.” Sabrina nodded, and decided not to respond to the threat. Seeing Mewtwo was more than enough collateral for silence. Angel turned around, and the gang exited the gym, bound for Cinnibar.

* * * * *

“Okay kid, I\'ll take you on, but you better have burn heal! Two on two, I wanna go for something different! If you win, you\'ll get the badge. My two best against your two best!” Angel grinned. Best; the worst words he could have used.

“My best, huh? Are you sure about that?” she replied, tilting her head. She crossed her arms over her chest, and smirked.

“That\'s what I said! Best.”

“How are you at keeping a secret?...”

“If you wanna use illegal pokes, I won\'t tell the league.”

“Oh that\'s just the half of it. Can I trust you? If I use my best, you\'ll have to shut up.”

“Now I\'m curious. Yeah, it\'s safe.” Blaine spoke, leaning towards the wall to strike a button. The automatic doors slid closed again, leaving her, Gary, Blaine, and the pokemon completely sealed off and alone.

“Your funeral. Go, Moonlight, team up with Amelio.” Mewtwo rolled his eyes. He knew this was coming the moment he told her to use her best. Not that he was complaining; this battle thing was shaping up to be quite fun. \'Amelio\' removed his cloak as Moonlight took his spot. Blaine didn\'t seem to react; he must have missed the few documentaries.

“So what\'s the big secret? The Umbreon and an overgrown Meowth that fell into a vat of grape juice?”

“That pokemon is Mewtwo, and I\'d recommend looking that up later...Send out your two!”

“Alright missy, alright. Go, Arcanine and Rapidash!” The two pokemon were released onto the battlefield, in time for Angel to turn on her scanner.

“Present opponent pokemon only.” she told it.

“Acknowledged. SCANNING. The following pokemon are present: Arcanine, Male. This pokemon is of level 50 with a Rash nature and the following moves: Reversal, Fire Fang, Crunch, and Flare Blitz. Rapidash, Female. This pokemon is of level 50 with a Rash nature and the following moves: Poison Jab, Bounce, Flamethrower, and Solar Beam.”

Angel\'s eye rose. Strong, but a strange moveset to say the least.

“That could be construed as cheating...But. Arcanine, use Reversal on the Umbreon and Rapidash, use Poison Jab on that large cat!” The Arcanine charged towards Moonlight, as the Rapidash aimed her horn, but Angel knew she didn\'t have to say anything.

“Have at \'em, boys!” Mewtwo read the motions of the Arcanine, and copied the move. His Me First would probably be erased, but it seemed that at the moment it would come in handy. He closed his smaller jaws on the back of Arcanine\'s neck and bit hard, then threw it aside with a lazy flop. The pokemon shivered, and fought to stand as Moonlight was rammed with a large poisonous horn. He cried out, and slammed a powerful psychic into the Arcanine, as he couldn\'t reach the Rapidash. The Arcanine was recalled by Blaine, who spotted the instant swirly eyes. Now it was just that silly horse to take care of.

“Rapidash, use Bounce on that big purple thing!”

“Boys, take that pokemon DOWN!” Mewtwo didn\'t waste any time with an attack; the pokemon was far too high. Moonlight seemed to know as well, and spent his time moving into a prime position, as did Mewtwo. As the Rapidash came down towards Mewtwo, he and Moonlight simultaneously launched Psychic attacks. The force of it caused the pokemon to fly back upwards again, and then down, colliding with the gym floor with swirly eyes.

“HAH! I shoulda seen that coming! I lost real quick! Good job kid! Might want to think about not over-levelling so much in the end, won\'t be much of a challenge! But, here\'s your Volcano Badge!” Angel took it gracfully, placing it with the other ones. Just one more, and she had no idea who the leader was. She knew it was in Viridian City, but who the leader was, was going to be the biggest surprise of her life.

* * * * *

“Viridian City! It does seem a little strange to be here, without a final pokemon, though...” Angel spoke, as she stared at the gym before her. “Maybe I should find my final pokemon, and come back with them all trained? It\'s the last badge, and I\'d like to have a full team.”

“It\'s up to you...” Gary replied, quietly. He knew exactly who the leader was, now. When he went through, it was Blue, but now it was the big man himself. He wasn\'t sure if he should say anything or not.

~He is not here. Look at the door.~ Mewtwo told them, eying a white sheet taped to the door. It read:

“Attenshin trainers hoo are seeking to take on the Gym Leader:

The Gym Leeder of Veridian City is away on bizness. Please tri again in a week. We apolgize for any incoveenenence.” It was type-written, and poorly spelled, but the general gyst was understood. But, it seemed Moonlight wasn\'t so convinced. His fur bristled up, as he snuffled the door.

~Something is wrong. This doesn\'t feel right.~ he spoke, glancing up, oddly, to Mewtwo. He had far stronger powers than he did, so he must be trusted – for now.

~You are right.~ he replied, placing his paw on the door. ~There is a benevolence about this gym. It feels of Giovanni, but also of Darkrai...~ Mewtwo spoke, closing his eyes to focus within. ~I see...darkness. Lights are off inside. I feel the evil Boss, but I also feel...death. Someone is dead in there. Many people I sense, they are suffering.~ He pressed against the door, but it would not budge. He pushed harder, but it hadn\'t worked. ~It will not open. Perhaps we should call for help. I do not like the feel of this.~

Angel frowned. She really didn\'t want to call for help, but she had no choice. “Amelio, I\'m going to have to hide you for a while. You know why.” Mewtwo nodded, and Angel recalled him, before pressing the red button on her cell phone. Now it was a matter of waiting for backup.
