A shining green aura kept the darkness at bay, illuminating the tiny patch that Noah's party had set up camp in. The forest sprite's wings beat silently. The eager trainer gripped the Oran berry that was handed to him as a gift, his two partners Luna and Koko were focused on their midnight snacks.
"Celebi, the forest guardian," Noah muttered under his breath. His eyes gazed up at the mysterious Pokemon. Her petit form bounced along in the air, and her antennae waved gently to and fro, both arching to the back of her pointed head. The black rings around her eyes begged more attention on her dazzling, aqua colored irises, and the spherical ball of psychic energy pulsating from her entity gave off a warm sensation akin to soft, fine silk.
"It's good to see you doing so well, young Sol," Celebi's voice gently cooed, her lips unmoving.
"Telepathy. You managed to crack into my head awfully fast," Noah tried to joke. What felt like ages passed since the last time he had heard from her. The unwelcome look on her face made Noah tense up, worrying about the fact that she had already drilled into his head.
"Like an open book to me, I'm afraid," she replied with a gentle smile, shattering whatever reservations Noah had about Celebi's visit.
Luna and Koko rejoined their trainer, Koko looking on in awe while the cat ferret casually approached the legendary specie. A quick glance at Luna's focused creamy white eyes made Noah's gut tighten.
"To what do I owe this gracious meeting, jungle imp?" Luna asked, not shy of inching incredibly close to the telekinetic sprite. Celebi did not show any signs of hostility, welcoming the Zangoose with open arms.
"Ah, the mother," Celebi replied, leaving both Noah and Koko clueless. The pixie closed her eyes, her concentration causing ripples to appear erratically in her psychic aura. "You've grown so strong in such a short amount of time," she looked towards Noah. "Impressive, Sol child. It appears that Richard may very well have made the proper gambit after all."
'Mom and dad always said that they were on excellent terms with Celebi,' Noah thought to himself.
"To answer your question, mother, I'm here strictly on Richard's orders."
"Richard...my father!?" Noah gasped.
"The one and only. Don't get the wrong idea, Sol," Celebi warned. "Your father did indeed perish those years ago." Noah's silence encouraged Celebi to continue. "Richard and Vivian were very close friends of mine, and before they died, they asked me for a favor. I stand before you simply to fulfill my end of the request."
"Request? What did my father ask of you?"
Another pulse of energy radiated unconsciously from Celebi's being. "He told me to stand by and watch over you...which I have done for four years." Noah's eyes sharpened as the she continued, "Once I saw that your team was ready, I was ordered to show you something special."
"Something special? What exactly would that be?"
"Something from the past, Sol."
Noah didn't respond to her answer. He continued to stand in silence and ponder exactly what the goal of this entire deal was. What exactly did his father feel was so important to involve a Pokemon of her caliber?
"I would trust Richard Sol myself, Noah. You are his son, so I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from," Celebi assured him. "Do you even understand what the Sols have done for the entirety of Sinnoh?"
Luna and Koko waited for an answer, eager to hear about the Sols from one or the other. Noah shook his head, "I only heard of the feats mostly. The two of them would tell me about some of the stories, but they rarely went into any details," he paused, giving himself some time to think, "I think maybe I was too young at the time to understand the effects of what they've truly done."
"I wonder," Celebi gently whispered, twirling about the trainer and his Pokemon. "You see, there's a very good chance that Sinnoh wouldn't be Sinnoh without them." Noah cocked an eyebrow at her. "Did they ever tell you about The Regional Fissure? I'm sure that you've at least heard of it in your studies."
"Very little," Noah replied. "All I've been told is that they were a major contributor..."
Celebi chuckled to herself. "The contributor. They were the only ones."
Noah nearly stopped breathing. "...What?"
"The only ones. The only two who fought against the great divide between the nations. At first, at least." Celebi continued to spin around the ground as she recalled her tale, "I am an explorer of time, Sol. I've been witness to some of the greatest events mankind and Pokemon have ever experienced.
"The creation of Unova, the rise and fall of Team Rocket, Kyogre and Groudon's assault on Hoenn, Cynthia's rise to power...even the birth of the mightiest trainer this world has ever seen. My eyes have been fortunate enough to see each and every one of these take place, and more.
"The world's been crumbling, Noah. It's been breaking apart for some time now, and no one, Pokemon or human, knows of the cause. We thought Armageddon was on the rise when The Regional Fissure occurred: A war that pitted Sinnoh, Hoenn, and the combined strength of Johto and Kanto against one another. The combined might of the human powers and their Pokemon shattered the world," Celebi recounted, her flight speed simmering down.
"When all hope seemed to be lost, two trainers from Sinnoh rose from the ashes of their devastated country, and sought nothing more than an end to the fighting. The names of these two were none other than Richard and Vivian Sol."
Noah shivered as Celebi continued her tale, "They were just two trainers. We wild, Legendary Pokemon had no desire to intervene in your human affairs, so from the sidelines we witnessed the rise of the Sol Duo. At first, they were two. As they continued their journey, from Sinnoh, to Hoenn, and then to Johto, deep into the heart of the Indigo Plateau, they would ally themselves with those they had saved from death, or those whom they persuaded to join their ranks amongst their enemies.
"Two became four. Four became eight. Eight became sixteen. Before we Pokemon even knew it, those two created one of the most powerful, deadly, formidable string of alliances ever to befall this world. As they traveled, and grew more powerful, they began to come into contact with our kind," Celebi momentarily paused, "...the Legendary Pokemon. I was among those who marched with them into battle at the Indigo Plateau."
Celebi shut her eyes, "The battle was over swiftly, those held responsible were finally given their dues. The Sols reconstructed the machine that started this war, and created a power, a force strong enough to keep the regions together for ages to come. That was the birth of the 'High Noon' organization.
"Noah," she took in another breath, "Sinnoh was on the verge of damnation when those two finally took action. Had they waited for even a moment, had they faltered at any time on their quest, Sinnoh wouldn't be the continent that it is today."
"They...built the current government from the ground up at the Indigo Plateau?" Noah asked.
"Correct, young Sol."
"But...that would mean..."
"They are the creators of this...'High Noon' your kind has created. They created a foundation that resulted in what the humans have established up until now. A powerful organization that controls the leagues, coincides Legendary Pokemon, and ensures justice throughout the four regions."
"Mom...dad..."
"Sinnoh...No, the entire world is in your parents’ debt. Even now, despite the infection that has begun to plague this world."
"I never knew...that they were-"
"You shouldn't worry about something like that. Just be aware of their importance, and realize the severity of my presence here."
"This is about my parents."
"Indeed. They wished to prepare you for your journey ahead. They desired for you to become stronger than they ever were."
"I see," Noah replied, feeling heavy in his feet. He hadn't the slightest idea of how much weight his parents' actions had for the development on the region. He let the realization sink in while he thought about Celebi's appearance in the forest. There was something incredibly bothersome about all of the information that he was bombarded with. "So what is this entire thing about?"
"Your parents wished for me to show you what you'd most likely be facing some day in the future."
"And you're here, a Pokemon that can manipulate the threads of time. Are we going to time travel for this?"
"It's the most effective means of showing you what those two wished, yes. Besides," Celebi added, "I was certain that you would be excited to see your father one last time."
Noah felt his mouth go dry. A strong breeze came from Celebi's direction, backed by a powerful psychic aura that bloomed from Celebi's body, enveloping the entire field around them. Small bits of debris were lifted into the air as a tiny void formed behind the guardian. It stretched wide, large enough to fit even Noah's body into it. Celebi twirled and spun right above the vortex, looking back at Noah's group.
"However, Richard told me of one final detail before taking you on this mission: It's your choice if you wish to travel; not his, and certainly not mine. What say you, Sol?"
Noah didn't want to give it much thought, anxious to leap through the hole in time. However, he looked towards his teammates. Koko had a bright, shining face full of eagerness. Luna, who hadn't really spoken during the entire exchange earlier, seemed indifferent to the events unfolding. The wind picked up around the group, nearly tossing Noah's bag and supplies helplessly into the air. The sound of the vortex filled his ears.
"Are you two okay with this?" Noah asked his group, shouting to override the air current acting as a vacuum to sound.
Koko nodded her head and gave him a huge smile from both mouths. "I'm your Pokemon, remember? Wherever you go, I go!"
Luna looked Noah in the eyes. "Trust is what is going to make us stronger, right? I feel that whatever you decide to do will be the right choice, Noah." She looked back at the sprite with a kind and gentle look that Luna herself found odd. It felt almost as if she was somehow an acquaintance of Celebi’s once before. Her smooth, silky voice didn't faze Noah, not at this point in time. His heart beat faster as he turned back to Celebi and gave her an affirmative.
"Please, put your Pokemon in their capsules. It makes the ride easier,"
Koko obliged eagerly, while Luna's eye twitched when she thought about being cramped in that tiny little space. It didn't take much for her to be convinced by Noah to be held inside, just for the trip.
"Okay Celebi, I'm ready."
"Very well, Sol. Come forward."
Noah approached Celebi, her tiny arm stretched out to meet his hand. He felt her fingers touch his, and at that exact moment, his body was lifted off of the ground, a powerful tug launched him directly into the portal.
'I'm going to see them again...this is so sudden...it can't be real,' Noah thought to himself, a spark of excitement igniting in his heart. He felt another pull, followed by a violent push that sent him deeper into the vast blanket of darkness. His consciousness rapidly faded with the flow of time.
==========
Four Years Ago
'This isn't real...it has to be a dream,' a voice boomed inside of his head.
"Noah," a familiar voice called out.
'What did I get myself into? Did I jump too quickly at the chance?'
"C'mon, wake up, Noah."
'What can I say when-?'
Noah's eyes surged open as a large, red paw slid across his face. His body jolted, sitting against a tree that he was currently leaning his weight on. The pain alarmed his nerves, easily bringing him back from his nap. Luna was there waiting for him, her claws extended and her arms crossed. She seemed impatient and anxious, easily discernable from the nervous twitch her tail gave off every few seconds. Noah rubbed his temples with his hands, trying to shake the stars away from Luna's swipe. Even though he was sure that she masked it, he could feel the strength she had gained during their trials in the Eterna Forest. It would've impressed him if he wasn't too busy focusing on how loud his cheek was screaming at him.
"Ease up next time, Luna, you’re getting too strong for this kinda thing," Noah joked, realizing almost too soon that Luna didn't seem as though she was in the mood.
"It's about goddamn time you got up. We've been waiting," Luna replied. Her voice was silkier and her eyes still shined brightly in the moonlight of this new world, but her speech was strained, as if she was being held back by some kind of strange, intimidating force. "Don't you feel it, Noah?"
Noah, addressing the concern, closed his eyes and tried to focus on whatever it was that the cat ferret might've been talking about. The shrubbery around him shuddered with a small gust of wind from the north. The wind brought with it a strange, alarming smell of burning wood. The branches of the trees surrounding the two bent to the will of another, stronger gust. It all felt unnatural, but worse than the sudden wind and the uncomfortable smell was this creeping presence Noah could sense. It felt as though it was pushing him down towards the ground, almost as if the pull of gravity had increased during the jump with Celebi.
In the direction of the burning smell, Celebi emerged from the leaves. "Not a moment too soon, Sol. Come with me, it's almost time for the finale," she ordered, a tinge of sadness dressing her words. With her mind alone, she forced the foliage to the sides to create a path for Noah and Luna to walk through with ease. The young trainer didn't miss a beat, picking himself up to his feet and dusting himself off. The force of this "additional gravity" felt more significant as he struggled to stay on his two feet.
"Where are we?" Noah asked the forest guardian, who was easily keeping herself bobbing in the air despite the difficult time Noah and Luna were having.
"Hmm, I'd have thought you would recognize your own hometown, Sol."
"Twinleaf Town?" Noah questioned.
Before he could question the date, Celebi responded, "About four years ago, if you must ask."
"I didn't get to."
Celebi smiled brightly, clearly ignoring the danger that filled the air. The threatening, tingly sensation running down Noah and Luna's backs continued to intensify as they neared a source. Bursts of wind kept them from consistently moving, and the smell stung their noses as they inched closer.
"Hmm, now seems like an appropriate time,"Celebi spoke aloud. "You may release the Mawile now, if you so wish." She waved her frail hands around the group in a circular form, a ball of green tinted energy forming a barrier just slightly beyond the group's reach. The smell of the source remained, but the gravity relented the instant the psychic shield had been casted. Luna groaned and cracked her neck in several places, relieved of the additional nuisance.
"You'll be fine so long as you stay inside my barrier, understand?"
Noah nodded, reaching for a Pokeball and releasing the tiny yellow abomination. She yawned and stretched, rubbing her eyes before giving Luna and Noah a hug each. Celebi chuckled at the open affection she gave to the pair. Luna nearly shoved her off when her turn was almost over, while Noah rewarded her with a pat on her head.
Noah had to ask eventually. His mind was thinking back to the day that he had been thrown back into, "Celebi, what's with this smell? And that strange pull Luna and I were feeling earlier? What's going on here?" He grew uneasy as Celebi guided them through the woods.
She answered his questions without turning to face him, her focus caught on whatever lay ahead, "You'll see soon enough. What we're heading towards is the cause of everything."
He could feel his gut knot up at the sharpness of her mental voice. Just up ahead was a parting between the shrubs. Several flashes of light caught Noah's eye as they reflected off of the leaves. A muffled boom could be heard through the shield. The woods all around him trembled under the might of another erratic gale, none of which had any effect on the travelers thanks to Celebi's strength. Noah heard a cry come from the direction of the opening, following a thunderous boom of a familiar voice. After the command, Luna and Noah stopped in their tracks. Celebi had audibly gasped, her barrier shaking under what Noah assumed was the pulling force from earlier. His nerves grew anxious when he noticed the sweat dropping from under the forest guardian's chin.
'She's struggling,' Noah thought aloud over Luna's connection. She simply nodded in agreement. Koko was none the wiser about the situation, eyeing the gap with increasing curiosity.
"Don't you two worry about me," Celebi's voice shivered. "...Richard's really going overboard...The echo's putting on much more pressure than I anticipated."
Noah turned towards Celebi. The gap widened as they poked their bodies through the patch in the forest. He didn't get the chance to respond to her remark. Another thunderous blast came frighteningly close to their vicinity.
"FIRE!"
Everyone looked on at the gigantic monster lurking only yards away. It stood erect, taller than any normal old building, its serpent-like body pulsing with strength as it swayed. Its pale underbelly was decorated with a large, wide gash that nearly ran across the entire creature's width, crossing over to its rough, blue colored scales. The Pokemon's roar could've split the sky with its volume, and despite the barrier's thick walls, Noah spot a rippling effect moving from the front to the back of the orb. Blood ran down its body, a cesspool of crimson and darkness staining the ground.
"Luna! Look! At the Gyarados' base!" Noah pointed out.
"I know!" Luna replied quickly. "It's just like the Arbok. And the Electabuzz."
"He has it too!"
"Indeed he does, Sol. Now watch," Celebi noted, waving her hands towards the other end of the field.
The Gyarados' mouth pulsated with a bright white light, his neck arched away from his target. Then, in a whip like motion, he thrust his entire body forward as a ferocious Hyper Beam tore through the night sky. The group's eyes traced a path towards its intended target.
"PATCHI!" Noah shouted, his voice muted by Celebi's shield.
A small, electric squirrel stood in the path of the raging blast of energy. She reacted immediately to the incoming danger, tossing her paws out in front of her. A tiny, solid barrier incased her body. Luna's ear caught another scream, coming from outside of the ball of energy. It came from another Pokemon that streaked through the damaged battlefield.
"GET OUT OF THE WAY!" It screamed at the top of its lungs. The silhouette of the Pokemon appeared in front of the helpless Pachirisu, spreading its left wing. Without missing a beat, the Pokemon slammed its claw into Pachirisu's shield, the force of impact enough to send the Protect and its user flying out of the beam's blast zone.
Noah's eyes widened as he identified the creature. He had a thick, purple body, adorned with a powerful, long, poisonous stinger attached to his end. Two giant pincers on either end of his arm clamped shut as the Pokemon braced for impact. His bright, yellow eyes glowed for the one moment Noah managed to see them.
The blast made direct contact with the purple hide of the Pokemon. At the direct moment of impact, a heavy, deep hum boomed throughout the field, sending ripped grass and pieces of tree bark flying across the yard. Celebi's shield faded if only for a split second, making the crunch during the impact sound heavier to Noah's ears. Luna and Koko looked on in stunned silence as the beam tore the body of the creature apart
"That's..." Noah started. The beam lifted the Pokemon into the air, sending him flying into the row of trees on the other end of the stretch. The trees gave no resistance, the beam cut right through them, burning the leaves on impact and shattering the thick trunk into millions of splinters. The beam pulsed once more, and after traveling further into the wood, it seemed to collapse into itself. There wasn't a single trace of the victim from a quick scan of the gaping tunnel that entered the wood.
The young trainer tried to breathe. He looked back at the battlefield. There, behind the rampaging Gyarados, was the master that had just issued the execution of another living creature. Noah's heart stopped when the moonlight finally exposed the man's face.
Suddenly, a wave of memories crashed down on him. His body was petrified with fear as his mind went berserk.
"He's...he's the one." Noah muttered, audible enough for Luna to catch it.
Luna stared at the man. Just looking at his spiky, blue hair and his incredibly pale, sunken in face sent shivers down her spine. "Noah...who is that man?"
"Noah, he looks like a terribly bad man," Koko said, staring back at the leader of Galactic with a fierce glare.
"Luna," Noah shivered, "he's the man...who slaughtered my friends." He breathed heavily as his eyes tried to divert themselves from the man's appearance, traveling toward the other end of the field.
It didn't take long for Noah to identify the challenger. He donned an all too familiar business suit with matching brown pants. His face was caked with blood and sweat, and his outfit was torn in multiple areas. His signature hat was missing, and his hair seemed to stand on end. Despite the loss of one of his partners, he continued to hold his head high, staring straight into the eyes of the murderer without a single iota of fear.
"Dad!"
Celebi darted forward and snagged Noah by the shoulders to keep him inside of the barrier. He struggled against her ferociously as his two Pokemon watched his desperate attempts to get free.
Noah had to get free at all costs. At the moment he saw his father's face, it dawned on him where Celebi had taken the group.
"Let me go!" Noah tried to break free. Celebi was either much stronger than he anticipated, or she was using telekinesis to aid in her physical strength. "I need to get to him!"
"Don't be reckless, Sol!" Celebi shouted back, "Now is not the time to throw your life away!"
"But-"
Celebi spun Noah around. Her bright blue eyes pulsed threateningly with psychic energy. "If you go out there right now, Cyrus will slay you in a single blow!"
The name hung on Noah's mind. "Cyrus...Team Galactic Cyrus..?!"
Celebi simply nodded, keeping a firm grip on him.
"He's...he's the one who-"
"Yes, Sol. Look at him," Celebi flipped Noah back around. Cyrus' face lacked any emotion, even after his recent victory over Richard's Gligar. "This is the man who took everything away from you, and this is how strong he has become!"
As if on cue, Cyrus looked towards his Gyarados. He gave the Pokemon a cold nod before staring back at the pooling blood staining the grass.
Celebi's shield's glimmered once more, followed by a hollow rumble that echoed in Noah's ears. The blood danced in its own little puddle before jumping back onto the Pokemon's body. It slothfully crawled back into the wound it was pouring out of, jamming itself back inside before sewing up the opened flesh.
"His Pokemon can recover too," Noah squeezed out through clenched teeth. Celebi didn't let up on her control of the boy. His urge to rip through her barrier and attack Cyrus was still dangerously high, and she knew that letting him go now would jeopardize not only Richard's mission, but everyone's lives, her own included.
"You only have one more left, Richard," Cyrus tallied. His body didn't seem damaged in the slightest, though he wouldn't deny that he too was perspiring. He wiped his brow with a swift movement.
Richard chuckled back, still unfazed by the daunting task ahead of him. "Afraid to break a sweat, Cyrus? I can always take it up to the next level if you want."
Cyrus scoffed. "An absurd bluff. Though I admit you two were difficult to finally bring down. Then again, you were the Sol Duo."
Richard sighed. He knew that he was defeated; he hadn't managed to take down a single one of Cyrus' Pokemon. 'What the hell did he do to get so strong...and why can't I hurt his team?' Richard thought to himself.
He turned to his right. Patchi was clear out of danger already. All he could see of her was a tiny white mass in the distance scurrying off into the night. "Stick to the plan, Patchi," Richard muttered.
"What can that rodent do for you now?" Cyrus mocked him, returning Gyarados in the same motion. The red beam swallowed the giant creature whole.
"Oh, she's not running for help. I don't need it."
Cyrus' gaze twitched. "You know, Richard, I've been looking forward to this day for YEARS."
"Back to back losses at my hand will do that to you," Richard responded, seemingly without a care in the world. "I should know, I've been in that position before."
"Then you understand why I must do this?"
Richard scratched the back of his head. "I can understand playing to win, but murder? That's out of bounds, don’t you think?"
Cyrus remained silent. He was quickly losing patience with this man. "I would think you'd be more distressed, Richard. We've known each other far too long for you to be so calm."
Richard just smiled back at him.
"All but one member of your entire team. Your wife. And all but one of her team. Tell me Richard, did your sympathy dry up in your trip to Kanto those years ago?"
In the patch of grass, behind the force field, Luna felt Noah's mind go blank. Celebi let go of him as the strength left his body.
Richard's toothy grin shrank down to a smile. His eyes pierced through Cyrus' gaze. "I've never been a man for crying, to be honest. Viv and our teams understood the risks of tonight. I don't think I can thank them enough for their patience and loyalty."
"You let them die for you."
Richard let out a genuine laugh. "I'm not as cold-blooded as you are, friend. I don't use my Pokemon as a shield. They chose to fight for me."
"Another ridiculous claim," Cyrus calculated. His face contorted just for a moment as Richard's words sunk in. "Richard Sol. I could never understand you. Even now, when I'm about to finally get rid of the only real obstacle in my way...you smile."
"It's just the type of man I was born to be, Cyrus. I guess people and Pokemon just like to be supportive of what it is I represent." There was an eerie calm. "You're the only one to deny it all.”
Cyrus looked towards the woods near the newly formed tunnel. "They're coming back now."
A deep, rumbling sound shook the foundation of the earth nearby. Another familiar Pokemon cry rang out into the night sky. Richard and Cyrus steeled themselves up for the final battle.
"I think my only regret tonight is losing to you," Richard chuckled. "I always felt like the older brother of the group."
Cyrus said nothing back to the remark. The trees directly behind Richard fell apart as a giant, rampaging Pokemon came stomping out of the forest. Just like Richard, its head was drowned in its own blood. His gigantic outer shell was chipped in dozens of places, with deep gashes running across his legs. Atop his shell was a stump, where a large tree once stood, and the two horns that typically stuck out of this Pokemon's head were gone. Small traces of ice lined the wounds running across the gargantuan green turtle.
Richard's Torterra stumbled out of the forest behind him, tripping on its own four feet as a much smaller Pokemon ran along its body at a blinding speed. This Pokemon's coat blended into the night. It donned a collar and a crown of red, with devilish red ears and a split tail. She held one bright white claw towards her side to maintain balance as the colossal tortoise began to tumble over. Her other claw had a sheet of chilling ice covering it, and in one slick motion, dragged her claw along the outer shell of Richard's Pokemon as she ran across Torterra's back.
The ice stayed in place, the freezing temperatures biting away at his remaining strength in large chunks. Torterra roared as his body finally toppled, landing into the earth with a deafening crash that caused the terra to tremble.
Richard's eyes came into contact with his Pokemon's. "I'm sorry you have to go through so much, my friend," Richard apologized, his expression hardened to hide the ache of watching another life-long companion fall.
His partner weakly replied, inaudible to Noah's group. The Weavile that had landed the crushing blow returned to her master’s side, licking the fresh blood off of her claws.
Luna had seen enough. She turned towards Noah and grabbed him by the shoulders. His fear had been spilling over into her mind through their link, and the lack of action was making Luna anxious. She exposed her claws and fangs as she violently shook Noah.
"Noah, pull yourself together! We have to stop this freak before he does anything else!" Noah's eyes focused on her gaze, but he did nothing more. Frustrated, Luna shook him again, repeating herself. She quickly turned to Celebi, who was watching the carnage while keeping the barrier up.
"You! You're the Time Traveler! You're a Legendary Pokemon right?! Do something!"
Celebi noticed the change in Luna's eyes. They no longer harbored that soothing, milky gaze. Instead, her eyes seemed sharp and dangerous, itching to take a swipe at anything that moved. "I currently don't have the power to stop this chain of events from occurring, mother."
"What?! Then what was the point of bringing us back here!? Why go through the trouble of-"
"I'm only doing what I was told to do, ferret!" Celebi briefly glared at the mongoose. She softened up immediately, "Richard himself told me not to intervene in what takes place on this night."
"He's going to die," another voice broke up the two Pokemon. Noah stood back up, his hands resting on the barrier. It rippled at his touch, and though light, he could feel a familiar energy pushing against his hand, refusing him entry to the past outside. "My father is going to die here."
"So it seems, young Sol." Celebi assured him.
"And if Cyrus is right, then my mother's already gone...and all of our Pokemon. And now...all we have left is my father...and his starting Pokemon."
Noah shifted his hands across the barrier. He could feel a gentle nudge from the curved wall push him back towards the center of the sphere.
'I'm not going to lose him,' Noah thought, 'I'm not going to lose him again.'
"Luna, Koko. We're going."
Celebi's eyes sharpened. "What did you say?"
Noah turned to Celebi, "You've given me an opportunity that I just can't refuse." He turned back to his father. Richard was patting Torterra's head, the Pokemon was struggling to breathe as he bled out onto the field.
"I failed to protect my family once before," his thoughts quickly browsed over his old team. He desperately needed this; he needed to prove to himself that he could protect those whom he loved. "I'm not going to let him take them away again."
Noah pushed at the barrier, quickly joined in by Luna and Koko. The shell's green light radiated from the strength they exerted on it. It flashed promptly before pushing the three back on the ground. Before Noah could pull himself back up, Celebi's psychic energy locked his body in place, along with Luna and Koko's.
"Stop it, Sol," Celebi asserted herself. "The elder Sol ordered us not to intervene in any way! We are allowed only to watch!"
"Let me go, god damn it!" Noah yelled, trying and failing against the strength of the Legendary's telekinesis.
"You fucking coward!" Luna suddenly burst out. Her mind, or more so Noah's thoughts, were screaming at her. "Who cares what he said?! He's going to DIE!" It was to no avail. Noah and his party continued to struggle against Celebi's strength as the scene continued without them.
"It's time to send your final Pokemon off, Richard," Cyrus announced from the other end of the battlefield. "Let it happen, and I'll make this last strike quick and painless."
"There's not much left I can do, Cyrus." Richard shrugged, getting dizzy from the blood loss.
Cyrus looked down to his Weavile. Her claws shined in the night sky from the ice that still coated them in a thin layer. She started off towards Torterra.
"Finish it."
"No! No! Let me out!" Noah bellowed. Celebi held strong, ignoring the resistance the three travelers were creating against her will.
The Forest Guardian's eyes shot wide open. She could feel it within her sphere of influence, the sound of a heavy note clinging to the air. It bounced off of the walls of the barrier, rattling her head. Her control was beginning to shatter.
Then, something unexpected happened that completely snapped her concentration in half. Another peculiar sound boomed through the barrier, distinct from the noise that was already cluttering up the tiny space. The two notes deafened her hearing, and with a yelp, Celebi dropped all of her restraints against the group. The sudden release of the barrier, with all of the pressure from both inside and outside of the ball, sent her spinning backwards several feet before she managed to regain her composure. Noah was already halfway down the field. There was no stopping what was about to happen. It was at that moment that it all became perfectly clear to Celebi.
She sighed contently. "Richard Sol. Even in death, you prove to me that you're nothing short of a genius."
Energy stormed through Koko and Luna's bodies as they pulled ahead of their trainer. Noah tore a straight path towards Richard while his Pokemon dashed forward to intercept the Weavile. The Sharp Claw Pokemon didn't see the blur of white coming from her side. She felt paused in mid stride as the face of a vengeful cat ferret appeared from her left. The intruder said not a single word before slashing straight upwards across Weavile's chest, a sickening hiss following the scar left behind. The blow sent Weavile spinning sideways though the air, giving Luna enough time to recover from her vicious strike. She quickly followed up her surprise attack by grabbing the enemy by the foot. With a roar, Luna slammed the defenseless creature into the ground. At the point of impact, another boom exploded across the field, sending debris sailing into the sky. Weavile's vision had blurred from the attacks, leaving her stunned and in a heap on the floor.
Luna, with her grip still tight along her leg, lifted her off of the ground with ease. Behind her, Koko had just managed to catch up. A quick glance showed that Koko had a fairly large amount of rock and gravel from the ground inside of her maw. Their minds clicked together, and with a furious shout, Luna tossed the Weavile into Koko's attack range. Koko's eyes sharpened as she swung the entirety of her secondary jaw backwards. Then, at the moment the sack of beaten flesh flew into her line of vision, Koko tossed every inch of her body weight towards the creature along with the swing of her jaw.
The steel exterior, the weight, and the power behind the swing all clashed against the force of Luna's pitch. At the moment Koko's jaw collided with Weavile's head, another explosion of noise followed. A sickening crack filled the night air as Weavile was sent flying back towards the direction of her master.
Cyrus' stare at the mysterious attackers was riddled with anger, but his face refused him even the smallest twitch. He looked down at his defeated Pokemon. "Get up."
His Pokemon twitched in its place in the dirt, her blood dripping from her frontal wound and head. Weavile's claw reached out in Luna's direction, scraping angrily at the ground.
"I said get up."
A huge gash from her collision with Koko's heavy jaw decorated the back of the Weavile's head. The essence of the Pokemon was tinted with a familiar black color. While Noah's group began to gather their minds after their initial assault, their expectations of the black fluid came quickly to fruition: The wound on the Weavile's skull was beginning to mend itself, the blood retreating back inside of the creature's body and sewing its flesh shut. The Pokemon groaned as it brought itself back to its feet, finally getting a good look at those foolish enough to get in the way of her master's plans.
"All of it," Cyrus motioned to her chest. She looked down, an audible gasp escaping her as the scar running along her body remained. The blood running down her body from the attack quivered under the influence of the force behind the eerie black tint.
Even Celebi was utterly shocked when the blood refused to recede. The Weavile panicked, speaking something to her trainer that went unheard to the rest of the crew. Cyrus' stared in contempt at the new problem, failing to understand why she had failed to do what he ordered.
Richard was dumbfounded, trying to find the identity of his potential savior. He gave a good, hard look at the young trainer before him, wearing a red vest with a black shirt. He faintly remembered an outfit that resembled a similar style and color pattern. During their short reprieve, Noah turned around to look his father once over to ensure himself that he had made it just in time.
The selling point was the series of plates already resting on Noah's chest. Richard gave a warm smile, thinking back to the exact moment Noah had powered through and struck down Cyrus' Weavile.
"My boy, I was wondering if you were going to show up."
Richard looked worse from up close. The blood soaking his face was from a huge gash that reached across his forehead, and his suit was ripped apart more thoroughly than Noah recalled from the edge of the forest. His suit had a unique smell of burnt fabric, and his Torterra was in absolutely no condition to continue his fight.
"You need to take Torterra to the Pokemon Center in town, NOW," Noah ordered his father, his body pulsing with each heartbeat. His father looked back at him with the same silly grin that he had donned just a few moments ago against Cyrus.
Richard sighed nonchalantly. "No can do, kiddo," he simply responded. Noah's brow furrowed. Richard turned back to Torterra, stroking him on the head once more, eliciting a strained and weakening growl from the Pokemon. "I can't. He's already going," his smile faded, "there's not enough time in the world to save him now."
Noah looked at his father, horrified by what he had just heard. "But we won't know unless you actually-"
"Listen Noah," Richard interrupted, "You don't understand the circumstances here. It's not that simple." He looked back to Cyrus, Noah following his motion. Weavile's wound was still open, but she was clearly still ready to battle, indicated by her stance as she prepared to advance. "If Celebi is here with you like I expect her to be, then you should just do the right thing and head back now."
His son visibly showed his desperation. "I can't do that, dad. I'm not going to lose you again."
"Go!"
Father and son turned their attention back on Cyrus, his Weavile sprinting towards their direction with only a minor drop in her speed. Noah's mind linked completely with Luna's once more to focus on the battle.
'She's headed right for you!' Noah shouted through their connection.
'Got it!'
The two warriors' razor sharp claws collided with one another vigorously, Weavile's strength throwing Luna off guard. She was able to successfully hold off the Pokemon's assault so long as they stayed locked, leaving enough room for Koko to try another sneak attack. The yellow imp was still in her place behind Luna, and was digging up more mass for another strike.
"Back the fuck off, you little shit," Luna threatened her Pokemon brethren. The crimson red eyes in front of her looked back into her milky white with nothing but resentment.
"Low leveled trash. I allowed low leveled trash to hurt me," Weavile growled fiercely.
"I'll do more than just hurt. Just wait and see."
"It's time you learned your place."
"Noah, you need to get out of here now," Richard told his son, the demand going unnoticed. At that exact moment, a strange essence pulsed from Weavile's body, the vibrations making their way into Luna's body from the deadlock.
The sensation flowed clearly into Noah's mind, and at that exact moment, he could hear his father loud and clear:
"Your Pokemon's lives are in danger here!"
Almost as if on cue, Weavile's body shifted, throwing Luna off guard. Weavile darted quickly to the left of Luna's field of vision, the mongoose stumbled forward from the sudden disappearance from the force against her own strength. Clueless, Luna struggled to regain her footing.
A sinking feeling filled Luna's body, her ears catching the faint sounds of Noah screaming audibly at her. She finally registered the elbow that had driven itself deep into her left side right underneath her arm. She could feel a terrible stinging running through her side as she fell to her knees, her mind blinded by the searing pain.
Weavile quickly rounded her target's body and locked her eyes on a perfect strike. Luna felt another tremendously powerful force ram heavily into the side of her head. Her senses simultaneously shut down as her body lifelessly dropped to the floor. She landed in a pathetic heap, her tail trailing behind her as it gently lay itself out on the blades of grass.
Noah quickly returned his Pokemon to his ball, frantically reaching for Koko's after realizing what a foolish mistake he had made. A terrible truth in the form of his father's voice came forth.
"You're not strong enough to fight him. Run...now!"
Luna's ball snapped shut as the light finally retreated into the compartment. Another Pokeball shimmered on his belt. His fingers searched quickly for the release.
"Koko! Move out of the way!"
Noah's words reached Koko, but it was to no avail. There was no possible way for Koko to dodge the speedy movements of her opponent. Koko's frame was still and frightened at the sight of watching her older sister fall so easily at the enemy's claws. She yelped, throwing her jaw out in front of her as a giant shield.
"They sent a baby to fight me. How sad."
Koko's eyes shut tight when she felt Weavile's breath against her hardened skin. Almost effortlessly, and without hesitation, Cyrus' Pokemon winded up one of her paws, her weapons retracting as she did so. Then, just like a slingshot, her "fist" plowed its way straight into Koko's maw. It pounded violently against Koko's body, the force it pressed on her body crushing her. She could feel her steel skin giving way to the blow, a sharp pain rising as the maw inched closer to her face. The last thing Koko saw before her strength gave way to the incredible blow was the sharp grin coming from her opponent.
Her shield, no longer held in place by Koko's will, flung itself and Weavile's punch straight into her face. She rattled to the very core, her feet lifting off of the ground with seemingly no effort. Weavile roared as her fist finally extended completely out in front of her. The young Pokemon fell victim to the raw power as she sailed backwards towards her trainer. Noah looked on in horror as Mawile slammed neck first into the ground, her frightened eyes frozen in place. She bounced harshly off of the hardened surface, rock and weeds tumbling along with her. Her momentum stopped as she rolled right at Noah's feet, completely unconscious, and bleeding heavily from her nose and mouth.
"Return her, NOW!!" The familiar voice of Richard boomed. Noah finally managed to snap the ball loose from his belt, and had Koko retreat into the contraption. His breath was labored, and suddenly, fear was filling his body as he realized the mortal danger he had recklessly put him and his team in.
Weavile's trainer inched closer, his eyes locked in on Noah. "And just exactly who is this, Richard? A rookie from High Noon? I thought they had...higher standards than this trash."
Noah's father chuckled heartily at Cyrus' insult. "High Noon? No sir. I made sure to prevent all interferences from High Noon."
Noah looked back at his father in disbelief.
"He's of no use then. Kill him."
Noah felt the presence of the Ice Type warrior rushing closer to him, his gut tightening as he made an attempt to look at the attack. The sharpened claws came swinging from below, Noah fell back in fright as his impending death inched closer.
"Ah," Cyrus mused, "when there's a Sol, there's a Celebi. I should've expected this."
Noah looked back up to his assailant. Weavile's claw was stuck against a reinforced shell, unlike the one Celebi had made to keep him and his team from intervening. The Protect shined brightly in the night as the sight of the green forest sprite came into view.
"Just in time, old friend," Richard greeted the legendary.
"Forgive me for my sudden interference, Richard," Celebi apologized, "but I can't have the Sol getting himself hurt so recklessly."
Richard nodded. "It's understandable." He looked down at his offspring, who returned the look with confusion. "It's okay Noah. I won't let anyone hurt you while you're here."
"Dad...you didn't inform High Noon?"
Richard shook his head. "I informed them quite well. Gave them the time and date."
"But then ho-"
"But I told them directly not to get in the way."
"I don't understand."
Weavile bounced off of the wall and back towards her master. Cyrus allowed her to recover for her final attack. He had no fear despite the Celebi's sudden appearance. He had the power to destroy all three of them, a realization that would've otherwise made him grin.
"Noah," Richard started, looking back to Cyrus, "Look at him. Then look back at my team."
Noah recalled the strength of the Gyarados they had just seen, as well as the persistence of the powerful Weavile that he couldn't defeat. Richard had no more remaining Pokemon. His Torterra had already passed on during the clash earlier, the still body of the giant tortoise bringing tears to Noah's eyes.
"Your mother and I have battled with Cyrus many times in the past. If there was ever a problem with him in High Noon, it was always the two of us that were in charge of putting him back in his place." He paused to get another good look at the man making his way over to the small trio. "But tonight was different. Cyrus found a way to make himself exponentially stronger than your mother and I ever dreamed of.
"If your mother and I weren't prepared for this, what makes you think High Noon would be?"
Tears were making their way down Noah's face, his fists clenched together as he heard his father talk.
"We had absolutely no idea what we were going to be dealing with tonight, and what has happened here is...something we anticipated."
"Then why didn't you run?" Noah begged him, his emotions clashing between a searing rage and a blackened sadness.
Richard gave Cyrus another signature smile. "Cyrus hates The Legendary Sol Duo. He's been after us longer than he's been after High Noon," he turned his gaze back onto his son. "If it means giving the world even the smallest reprieve from Cyrus' plans, then we'd gladly take the fall.
"It would give everyone the time to find an answer."
Noah couldn't bear wondering anymore, "Then what about me?"
Richard's grin vanished, leaving behind nothing but a somber, bloody man. "Noah, your mother and I love you, and we always will...but this was something that we simply couldn't control," he exhaled deeply before continuing, "The only thing we could do was lessen the blow."
Noah was horrified by what he was hearing. He failed to understand the goal his parents were trying to achieve.
"Your mother and I want you to be happy," Richard said, an eerie silence within the Protect following his voice. "We want you to grow strong, and smart, and have those with you that you can call your family when we disappear." Richard looked directly at the pendant on Noah's chest, letting his son follow his extended index finger to the trinket.
"You have an adventure to finish, and what we have done here is ensure that the next step you take will keep you growing stronger and wiser.
"I know that it hurts for you, but you can't let these experiences destroy you from the inside and out!"
Noah looked up at his father, his figure glowing ever brighter, his form shining through his injuries.
Richard's voice boomed overhead, "It's okay to hurt, Noah! It's okay to cry! But do not allow this to destroy your soul!"
"Dad..."
"Grow from these experiences! Become strong! Only then will you be able to overcome the challenges that lay out before you! I know you can do it!
"After all, you are a Sol!"
The Protect finally faded out, leaving the group open to attack. Celebi knew that she would be no match for the regenerating dark-ice hybrid before them. She quickly looked to Richard for an alternative.
"Get him home! He's done here!"
Celebi didn't hesitate to follow the elder Sol's orders, ripping open another vortex with ease. Cyrus reacted almost immediately, sending his Weavile out to strike the Psychic Type. Richard pushed his way through to the frontline, preparing to guard his son.
The vortex completely opened up just as the Weavile pounced. The Pokeball housing Luna shook violently against Noah's side as a familiar note hung in the air. His father was tackled to the ground, his strength easily gave way to the power of Cyrus' Pokemon. Richard turned back to his son as the Weavile hurdled over him. Noah's ball ripped itself open as the very same Zangoose who was downed just minutes ago came sprinting out. The look in her eyes was sharp and hardened, her claws thirsty for the Weavile's flesh.
The Pokemon didn't anticipate the surprise attack, unable to stop herself from her rushed advance. Luna had no problem closing the tiny gap between her and her target; her claw quickly eased in and raked cleanly across her face, slashing diagonally from her right eye towards her muzzle. Another sinister hiss came from Luna's claws as the blood gushed out from where her eye was. The enemy shrieked as the pain from the wound overtook her.
"You bastard!" the Pokemon screamed in her own language, recoiling in agony. Her body thrashed about on the grass, kicking and flailing to ease the mind-numbing pain she felt burning across her face. Luna didn't utter another word as the note hanging in the air vanished. Richard could be heard chuckling from the ground as Weavile was returned to her ball.
Noah felt a tiny hand grab him, lifting him closer to the vortex.
"Wait!" Noah and Luna shouted together, finally snapping back to the situation at hand. Luna was quickly hoisted off of the ground by Celebi's telekinesis.
"Thanks...er...Luna, was it?" Richard asked. Luna's stare was all he needed. "It's a beautiful name." He looked to his son, his voice speeding up as their time faded away. "Good luck, Noah."
"No!" Noah and Luna struggled against Celebi's grip. Her desire to prevent Noah from throwing himself into danger forced her to practically launch the two of them into the portal. The voices from the trainer and his Pokemon vanished along with the vortex.
"Interesting," Cyrus spoke aloud as the beam of light retreated from the bloodstained grass. "He managed to take a single one down," he looked at the ball of his fallen. "She'll be punished for her recklessness." A dark, black ooze was seeping from Cyrus' sleeves, dripping steadily on the grass as the battle finally reached its end.
"Richard...my task is done, correct?"
"Yeah," he replied to the Forest Guardian, his voice as bold and as powerful as before.
"Excellent. There are quite a few problems that I need to tend to myself," Celebi said, trying to hide the sorrow in her voice. "...The Sol isn't the only one that's upset by all of this, Richard."
He looked back at Celebi. "I know. I'm sorry that I dragged you into this."
"It's okay," she responded, "I'd do anything for my old friends. This was my pleasure."
The liquid from Cyrus shifted on the ground, taking form.
"I'm glad for you, Celebi. It's a shame that we couldn't spend more time together."
"Indeed. I also can't help but feel...worried."
"Worried? For what, my boy?"
"Exactly, Richard. That boy has so much to deal with. Gathering the plates in the ever changing world that he lives in...There are far too many different forces at work in the future. I question his ability to handle the task."
"Heheheh," Richard laughed heartily, "Celebi, I recall you saying the same thing years ago, back when we first met you in Johto."
Celebi paused in thought, then slowly, a grin of her own adorned her face. "Are you going to give me the same reason now that you did then?"
"Even better," Richard told her. "I'll give you two."
"Aren't I the fortunate one?"
Richard's laughter could be heard as the black goo continued its slow march towards the pair. In the distance, the house continued to burn from the carnage the fight created. The wailing alarm coming from beyond the slope of the hill could be heard growing closer to the source of the battle. "The first reason is the same reason I gave you all of those years ago."
Celebi began to flutter higher into the sky as the ooze continued its advance. Her eyes glowed as her form dissolved into a tiny portal that now hovered above her head.
"Noah will survive because he's a Sol."
The substance grappled onto Richard's legs, working its way towards his torso. He could feel a burning sensation overwhelm himself. He showed no signs of fear, only the second victim of the new weapon to do so.
"And second..."
Celebi's form completely vanished. Richard's mind traced back to the moment Noah crashed through from the edge of the forest to save him. His memory replayed the sound of that unique, ominous note that filled the night.
"Because he's my son."
The fluid jumped up his neck and dived straight down his throat, engulfing his body and spreading through his mass. Richard didn't cry or shout as his consciousness began to fade into a sea of hungry dark tendrils.
==========
Present
Noah's vision faded in and out of obscurity. The odd, blurred shapes of the trees in Eterna Forest finally coming into a clear and concise focus. His breathing was horribly out of rhythm; his body gasping for air as the feeling of the ground beneath him slowly came to his sense of touch. He could feel Luna's presence behind him, trying to focus herself on the present, both of their bodies dizzied from the sudden travel through the sensitive fabric of time and space.
He felt Luna's gaze resting on his back; she had seen and experienced everything for herself. He wanted to, for as long as possible, keep his past hidden away. The present, from the campfire in Eterna Forest to just now, had come back full force. He hated that he had not only so hastily exposed his history, but that of all of the people he could've told, it was the one now standing only feet away from him.
Noah felt crushed at what he himself had seen. In a sense, the dreadful experience he had been through as a child was now recreated as an entirely new force that smashed his spirit. Witnessing his father falling so easily in front of him, despite his best efforts, shredded his heart, and listening to his father explain the hopelessness of the situation to him shattered his soul.
He reminisced on the event that took place so many years ago. Noah's body had cried out in protest every day following his loving family's funeral, and even after what happened to his first team in Eterna City, there was arguably a small glimmer of hope that he kept alive. However, what he and his team had just experienced came back to the front of his mind, pounding the harsh truth through his skull.
Noah had failed. Three times now, Noah had failed to save those whom he loved. To add to the weight on his shoulders, the realization that he had just placed his new friends selfishly in the exact same position was beginning to dawn on him. His head screamed, trying desperately to keep his emotion in check. There was no holding back any longer.
Luna's thoughts had wandered off, not because of any outside interference, but through her refusal to keep her part of their mental bridge open. The pain she felt from her partner swept through her like a plague, eating away at her emotional stability. She had let her eyes stumble to the edge of the small clearing they had been dropped into. Trees and darkness completely surrounded them; the moon was the only source of light above them through an opening in the upper foliage. The moonlight shone down on them, Luna's fur seemingly illuminated by its gentle touch.
Her ears twitched when she heard Noah's unsteady breaths break down further. She looked at him, his body hunched over, facing down at the dirt, his knees resting on the grass. His hands clawed at the dirt, scooping up tiny chunks of earth through the small gaps underneath his fingernails.
Luna had never seen Noah so broken before. It reminded her of that horrid memory, the emotion more so than the physical experience; that helplessness that accompanied the loss of her friend, bringing her to the verge of tears. Her eyes began to swell up, holding her breath to avoid hearing herself, when she heard Noah once more.
He was crying. Quietly at first, almost inaudible from their distance, but obvious. Noah was crying harder and deeper than she could ever imagine.
"I couldn't save them. Any of them." For a moment, he lifted his head and stared through branches of Eterna Forest, his blurry vision catching sight of several of the brighter stars blanketing the nigth. Tears streamed down his face, across his cheeks and toward his chin. His head and shoulders flinched as he moaned mournfully out into the night, the Kricketune's peaceful chirping coming to a complete stop on the edge of the clearing. His hands rose from the dirt, gripping the sides of his head in a desperate attempt to deny the truth in his words. His frustration made his hands painfully grab at his hair, violently pulling away, trying to keep his mind off of glaring realization destroying his confidence.
"I couldn't save a single god damned one!" he shouted, not caring for anyone who could have heard. He slammed his head into the earth, a sharp pain rattling his fragile thoughts as he continued to cry out his pent up frustration, the ground dirtying his face and pants.
"Fucking useless! Fucking-" Noah couldn't speak anymore. His hands let their vice grip go, one arm pushing his face up off of the ground, the other covering his eyes. He still refused to show his pathetic form to Luna.
"Shut up...just...shut up," he heard the tiniest, weakest plea in the world. Luna was standing several feet from him, the fur underneath her eyes matted to her face.
He struggled to calm himself down enough to talk. He tried with all of his might to turn around without showing his wet face to hers. It was of no use, their glistening eyes meeting directly with one another.
Luna's lenses, though normally red, seemed much darker than usual. Her beautiful, white irises clouded behind the tears that her fur absorbed. Noah's eyes were no better, aching from their incredibly violent release. Her sniffles had been drowned out by Noah's weeping.
No words were spoken. They both desired one feeling, one that their now opened bond thirsted for over either end:
Closure.
Luna couldn't keep herself away any longer. She took one step forward, quickly followed by another, before she practically threw herself into Noah, knocking the two of them over, Noah was pinned with his back against the ground.
Though Luna wept, the fact that she now had someone whom she could almost completely relate to in her possession made her feel secretly at ease. However, reminded that Noah had just experienced his own tragedy once more, she hid herself against Noah's shoulder, crying quietly for the two of them, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him close.
Before Noah could ask about anything, Luna had decided: she completely opened her bridge, immediately sending her memories of that painful day over to him. She waited for his response, crying harder into his black t-shirt collar.
Noah came to a pause for several minutes, going through the event several times over. A secondary wave of tears began to stream down both sides of his face.
"Oh god...please god...no...no more."
Noah's arms came around Luna's back, pulling her toward his chest, almost uncomfortably clutching her body, squeezing it against his.
"No! Luna, no! Not you! Please, god, not you!"
"Noah...I'm so sorry. If I had known better..."
"You didn't deserve it...you didn't deserve that..."
"...I wouldn't have ever asked you about it..."
"...Your only friend..."
"...Your family..."
A message was simultaneously sent through their bond.
'You've lost something precious.'
'Something dear to your heart.'
'I'm so, so sorry.'
Something strange happened at that moment. As the message was carried through their bond, an odd feeling arose in both of them. There was something overpowering in the thought, almost as though it were an overwhelming spell. Luna rose from his shoulder and locked eyes with him once more, absolutely confused about what the two of them were experiencing.
The Soul Plate’s connection grew in intensity, and for a split second, their bond evolved into something more.
The feeling compelled the two of them in their sensitive states. Unable to focus, and unwilling to rationalize after what they had both been through, Noah and Luna gave into the primal urge. Noah's lips nearly collided with Luna's. Their tears continued as Noah wrestled with Luna's tongue, the rough texture of her muscle oddly arousing the young man, a strange heat flowing through him with every beat of his racing heart.
Luna had never experienced anything like this before. Whenever she was teasing and kissing Noah, it was always a simple lick on his face, or a smack on the head. This was a completely different type of affection. This was more personal, something she felt only occurred between two special people at any one time. Her mind grew hazy, drawing a blank as she allowed Noah to explore her freely, showing little to no resistance against his offensive. She closed her eyes, a strange burning sensation rattling her entire body.
Her species never put a focus on this type of affection. This sensation in her body only allowed for one type of response, and though she wouldn't directly admit because of her own pride, she wanted it, and if anyone was suitable enough to fulfill her needs in the party, it would have to be Noah.
Luna's mind and body declared war on each other. She pitied Noah, and to a similar degree, herself. That terrible sense of helplessness she had felt just moments ago, before Noah's approach, burned away at her confidence. She wanted to help him, to aid him in venting even just a small fragment of the sadness he had locked away within the depths of his heart. Their sudden shift in desires was effectively pulling the attention away from their woes, but they still lingered in the air like the bad memories they were.
There was one way, a way that her mind was repulsed to think of, but that her increasingly demanding body agreed to almost as suddenly as the thought itself entertained her. The heat inside of her stomach made her tense.
'Maybe...I can help him.'
"Noah..." she hastily said when he finally broke their connection to take in fresh air. Her fur felt exquisite against his arms, Noah's body reacting positively to the sensation. Humans lacked fur, and this type of "touching" business was something few members, if any, of the human group ever experienced. His body grew excited at the prolonged exposure to this intimate feeling.
Luna, preoccupied feeling Noah's skin rubbing across her fur, made subtle, gentle licks across Noah's face, nibbling on his skin as she made her way down toward his neck. She rubbed her face along his, leaving a peculiar lingering scent. A gentle smile stretched across her face, a sly intention hidden. Her next words sent a chill throughout his body, a sign that her body and mind had come to an agreement.
"I want you. Now."
Noah nodded back in response, the pair consenting to Luna's request. The urges sent through Luna's body were driving her nearly insane, the impulse barely kept in check only by her fragile state of mind. Their bond had settled down, but the intense lust that the two of them felt from that one moment kept a powerful presence over their judgment, ensuring that neither of them were about to have a spurred second thought on what was about to happen. Her body's need for a mate was sent loud and clear to Noah.
It pushed him over the edge. Without warning, he grabbed Luna and rolled around, switching vantage points with her. Quickly, she momentarily freed herself from his grasp to turn around, her fine, thick tail waving in front of Noah's face. She placed all four of her limbs onto the ground, locking herself in position, lifting her tail in an arc that exposed a delicate section of flesh resting between her hind legs. The fur running down one of her legs was already wet with excitement at what was to come, her body prepared. She turned her head around to stare back at Noah. She hissed, upset that he hadn't already done what her body had demanded of him.
A strange pheromone wafted into the air from Luna's tail, the strange scent filling Noah's senses. Expectedly, the mass in his pants grew large with excitement, begging its owner to fulfill his bestial desires. He wasted no time, nearly ripping off his belt, stumbling to unzip and reveal himself to his soon-to-be partner.
Luna turned back to face the edge of the clearing, growling in anticipation when she felt Noah mount her from behind. Any issues in size difference were nearly nonexistent, Noah's head hovering right above Luna's ears as he tried to align himself with her body.
Noah and Luna held their breath as he slowly slid inside of her slippery channel, Luna clamping down onto him tightly as he completely entered her body. The duo shivered as a newfound pleasure engulfed their bodies with another wave of heated lust. Noah moaned as he slid back out, coated with her sweet-smelling essence, Luna's body keeping a steady grip on him as he forced himself back inside. It was practically a perfect fit.
Luna growled and snarled, her body never before having experienced such an incredibly inviting feeling. Her insides stretched and expanded with his thrusts, the ferret's mouth snapping at the air in front of her, saliva dripping onto the ground below. She wrapped her tail around Noah's waist, brushing against him as he continued to mechanically shove himself deeper.
His hands gripped tightly against her hind legs, pushing her against his thighs, her fur sending jolts of excitement through his mind with its gentle touch. He doubled over, his body supported by her legs and back while he focused on the rhythmic pattern in which he pierced her.
Another pulse of sexual energy filled Noah's body through their bond. He wanted to finish her in the way he desired. Surprising her, he pulled out abruptly, her anger apparent with her piercing gaze and exposed fangs, hissing at him to continue his duty.
Noah stared right back at her, his intent waving off her threatening look. He growled, wrapping his arms around her body, lifting her. His drive became strength as he picked her up, his body rising to full height with her in his arms. He slid out of his pants, which had pooled at his ankles. Now only feet from the edge of the clearing, Noah had spotted a thick, rough tree only inches away. A brief image flashed before his eyes, and his mind was set. He brought her to the tree, flipped her around to meet her eyes with his own pair, and with a grunt, slammed her against the bark.
Luna gasped, astonished that Noah had gone against her will, and impressed by his sudden display of valor and domination, a suitable, admirable characteristic for a mate. She glared back at him, her eyes staring into his as he reentered, pinning her body against the tree and himself, her hind paws hanging down either side of his thighs. The heavy, thick hide of the tree supported their colliding bodies, the aged, dry bark roughly pinning itself into Luna's ivory coat.
Luna wrapped her front paws around Noah's neck, drawing him close to her body in a way that allowed him to take her any way he desired. The thought at being submissive to her mate invigorated her, dragging Luna's mind to the brink of bliss with a wicked grin decorating her face.
Her claws gripped onto Noah's shoulders, the flesh barely managing to stay together underneath the pressure of her sharpened weapons. Her clutch on him grew tighter the closer the two amateurs came to release, the skin struggling to resist her strength.
Noah was closing in on his limit, quietly groaning under his breath as Luna's body continued to please his appetite. She moaned wildly into the clearing and surrounding area, loud enough to wake most nearby Pokemon, if any, unable to handle the pleasure nearly as well as Noah. Her tongue lazily hung outside of her mouth, drool dribbling down her chin and onto Noah's shirt, a puddle-shaped stain growing on his fabric.
He hit his peak, shoving himself inside as deep as he could manage. With a powerful cry of pleasure, he filled her with his hot seed, his shaft throbbing as her walls milked him dry.
Luna howled, the feeling of his seed inside of her womb bringing her body to climax simultaneously. Her claws dug into Noah's shoulders, slashing the flesh that ran along his back from her lack of control. The pain of the wounds and the warmth of his own blood went completely ignored by her new mate.
With no leftover energy to spare, and his legs weak, Noah's body collapsed, Luna falling to Noah's side into a small, white heap.
Noah's vision went out of focus, his senses dulled by his extreme case of exhaustion. He almost immediately fell asleep right there in the clearing. Luna, fulfilling her instincts, began to quietly roll around in the grass, Noah's seed shifting around inside of her. She happily continued as the Kricketune's song returned. She had been completely satisfied.
Content, she crawled up close to Noah's body, purring as she eased herself to sleep, ignoring the blood that was beginning to soak into her fur.

His feet soared over the shoreline, his outline nothing more than a blur to any spectators on this darkened night. The longer blades of grass bent to his will, making a tune of the shuffling that he did as he darted through the route. His lungs burned through his chest, but his will refused to bring his legs to a halt.
A small yellow rodent streaked up his back and perched itself quickly on his right shoulder, catching its breath after barely managing to catch up to his trainer. The rodent's body was stained with dirt, with a few cuts grazing its left paw.
The Pokemon chirped something quietly into the trainer's ear while gripping tightly to his red and white jacket with its tiny claws. The trainer continued to run, shifting his focus to his Pokemon.
"Are you absolutely positive?" he asked, slowing to a trot and turning around to face the silent lake that was shrinking into the distance. Quickly, his hand reached into a small bag and pulled out a bottle of water. He relished in the rejuvenating feeling the water gave him, letting his Pokemon have a tiny share as well.
Using the time he had hopefully gained from his run, the trainer dusted off his shorts. He was bleeding below his knee from a nasty fall onto a swarm of Geodude in the caves of Mt. Mortar, but other than that tiny wound, he hadn't received any other damage. His team was still completely healthy save for his friend currently gripping his shoulder. He tried making out the entrance, or exit, to the cave beyond the lake, but his view was shrouded by a combination of the darkness and the distance between him and the hole.
Impressed with how fast they had moved, he felt the urge to give his legs a rest and take a seat on the ground. He quickly pushed his desires to the back of his mind, reminded himself just exactly who he was up against.
"C'mon Pichu, let's keep goi-"
A heavy rumble shook the very foundation he stood on. The trees shivered at their base, forcing hundreds of sleeping Flying Types into the sky in a panic. Pichu shot to his trainer's neck, bracing himself for an impending force. Grounded Pokemon could be seen shuffling amongst the foliage on the edges of the grassland that lay beyond the marked route.
Towards the far end of the lake, the trainer saw a blinding flash of light. The calm waters rippled harshly against the intruder as a large body punctured the surface. The splash was heard from the trainer's distance. He took several steps back, and the moment he saw the water kick up from an incredible force, he turned right back around, the Pichu screaming in his ear as he bounced right into a full sprint.
It would take him awhile to cross the lake, but he didn't want to take any more chances at questioning the speed at which his rival worked. Taking a nervous gulp, he turned around one more time to see how much distance he was gaining, or more likely, losing.
Atop a monstrous blue tortoise, Red stood firm. His arms were crossed and his hat shrouded the top half of his face. Patiently, he waited to arrive at the shore opposite of Mortar's entrance as his Blastoise cut rapidly through the water.
Gold shut his eyes and tore through western Route 42, refusing to look back at the one who had betrayed him. His blood was at the bubbling point, and he knew that despite how well he was playing keep away, eventually he would run out of road.
The only way out of this was to fight, and the second strongest trainer in the world had prepared for the scenario. However, he had to make sure that they were safe before he wished to confront his mentor once more.
