Rain
Chapter 29: Revival of the Dragon

Rain awoke to the sounds of running water, Sith was in the shower. Slowly, she cracked open her eyes and noticed that the rain still fell outside her window. She sluggishly left the bed and stared out the window, her forehead against the cold glass. The dark thoughts of the night before still held onto her. Vicious was to die today, she could feel no other feeling, save despair. She could feel the specter of death beside her. It watched her every move, it followed her every step. She had always been close to the mystic world, she could feel when death was nearby. It was partially why she could always sense Sith before she made her presence known. Part of Sith had died long ago, now a specter of death was a part of her, since she still walked. She was part of death.

* Something\'s wrong,
Trying to conquer these fears I thought were gone.
And it\'s been so long, I\'m dying to live in a world I don’t belong*

Rain dug into a drawer and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. She had quit before Aurora’s birth, and she never smoked around the child, but today she needed it. The flick of metal and flint resonated through the quiet room before the scent of vanilla and clove filled the air. Rain stared blankly out the window. She had been told to not come to the office until the Van ordered otherwise. She was stuck, a prisoner inside her own home for the day. Sith had been restricted as well, but Rain had not told her yet.

* I can’t wait for someone to hear me,
And wait for someone to touch me.
And wait forever to be told,
I\'m forever alone.*

She felt cold now, alone and cold in the dark of it all. She had been told to keep out of something that mattered. All she loved was in danger and she could do nothing. She exhaled another line of smoke and watched as it danced against the cool glass of the window. This was her life now.

* I can’t wait for someone to feel me,
And wait for someone to heal me.
And wait forever to be told,
I\'m forever alone..*

She listened as the water turned off and Sith emerged from the bathroom, garbed in her usual black attire. Her blood red locks seemed darker, like drying blood, now that they were wet. Rain watched her as she walked closer, a questioning in her dark eyes. Rain knew that question, she’d seen it enough in the eyes of her many toys long ago, in the eyes of the men that she fooled into loving her. Rain didn’t want to hurt Sith.

* On my own,
I\'ll show myself what it means to be alone.
And the tears I cry are washed away.
All the scars are my disguise.*

“I don’t know the answer yet, Sith,” Rain said softly.

Sith seemed taken aback slightly, but that easily recovered. Rain always had a way of reading people, it was her talent, what made her a good killer and a good leader. Rain watched as Sith processed her answer for a second, how her dark eyes flashed coal to obsidian. Kate was conversing with her in Sith’s mind. Rain knew that, she could always tell when Sith was speaking to her former self.

* I cant wait for someone to hear me,
And wait for someone to touch me.
And wait forever to be told,
I\'m forever alone.*

“We’ve been restricted to the apartment,” Rain stated, turning back to the window and the grey world outside.

“What?” Sith’s voice rang, laced with burning anger, like a raging fire.

“You are to hand over your weapons to one of the bodyguards.”

“You’re kidding.”

“Nope. We’re under house arrest until Vicious’ corpse is dead and cold. They don’t want us to interfere with his execution. Not that it would matter,” Rain said. Vicious could take care of himself. He had everything planned down to the minutest detail. It was just his nature. He was nothing, if not thorough.

* I can’t wait for someone to feel me,
And wait for someone to heal me.
And wait forever to be told,

I’m forever alone…*

Sith stormed from the room, like an angry spirit, leaving Rain alone with her thoughts.

* I’m forever alone…*

She stared blankly out the window, thoughts running rampant through her mind. Everyone she ever dared to care for, always left her or died.

*I’m forever alone…*

Her mother, her father, Raven, Vicious, Spike, Jet, and Sith; they all seemed to become tainted by her. Her mother and father died, leaving her in the care of the Van. Raven had tried to change her, only to die trying to protect her. Vicious and Spike hated one another because she meddled in their lives. Vicious had an obsessive love for her that would no doubt leave him a weakness, something unwanted in syndicate life. Spike had relationship issues now because she had toyed with him. Jet… she loved him, but it was a love that was destined to fail. A syndicate girl and killer could never be with an ex-cop with his morals. Sith… she didn’t know what she had done for the woman, only that Sith would probably never have met Vicious had it not been for Rain. She was cursed to lose everyone she cared for.

*I’m forever alone…*

She could feel the presence of death hang over her. It seemed to suffocate and choke her as she extinguished her cigarette. She could hear the bodyguard down the hall arguing with Sith now. Rain smiled, if he wasn’t careful, Sith would probably end up slitting his throat. Rain then felt her smile slip away. She could see blood on her hands, it wasn’t really there, but she could still see it, she could feel it. Maybe after all this time, she was really losing it. She stared at her hands in morbid fascination as the blood stained her pale hands. She knew this blood, it was familiar, she just couldn’t place it.

* I, I\'m not waiting here this time.
I can\'t wait for someone to hear me.
And wait for someone to touch me
And wait forever to be told,
I\'m forever alone.*

She shook the thought from her mind, the blood gone from her hands. She then turned towards the bathroom and turned on the shower, stepping into the hot water. She wanted to scream, she wanted to run. She didn’t want Vicious to die, she didn’t want her child to lose her father before she even knew him. Her eyes snapped open as a thought came to her. She was sick of it. She wasn’t going to let them control her anymore! She wasn’t a pet; she wasn’t a doll to be manipulated and told what to do. She was Rain; she was the once feared Crimson Dragon! She had almost let them win, almost let them break her. A sly smile crossed her lips as she finished showering and rushed into her room. Quickly, she dressed in a pair of black jeans and a grey tank top, letting her tattoos show. She then ripped open a secret cabinet and took out all her weapons, shoving them into pockets and strapping some to belts on her waist. She then took out a pair of boots and slipped them on under her jeans and slipped out of the room.

Sith was still at the door, the bodyguard still demanding her weapons. Rain shot the red head and smile and grabbed her old trench coat. The bodyguard turned to Rain, a look of surprise on his face.

“Ma’am?” he inquired.

“Move,” Rain ordered.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Deacon, but I can’t let you leave,” he said sternly.

Rain laughed. “Like you can stop me.”

“I was ordered to keep you here under any circumstance,” he said.

Rain then moved quickly, her hands moving faster than even Sith could see as she snapped his neck and let his body fall to the ground. Rain smiled to her old friend and raised her eyebrows. “I’m leaving.”

“I can see that,” Sith said.

“You aren’t”

“Like hell,” Sith snorted.

“I need you to protect Aurora. She’s defenseless, I’m not,” Rain rationalized.

Stih’s eyebrows furrowed as the logic snapped into place and she glared at Rain. “True.”

Rain placed a hand on the shoulder of her old partner and recent lover and smiled. “I’ll save him. He won’t die by anyone’s hand.”

Sith nodded.

Rain then pressed her lips to those of the red haired assassin and fled out the door. “I promise that he will come back.”

Rain lit a black cigarette and let out a line of silver smoke and headed for the Red Dragons’ headquarters. She kept her promises, Vicious would not die.

*I can’t wait for someone to feel me
And wait for someone to heal me
And wait forever to be told
I\'m forever alone*
