Of Chillies and
Chocolates
Chapter 3: The
Awkward Meetings
Miaka’s
eyes went wider than ever when the brown eyed boy in front of her
pressed his hot lips to hers. When he broke away she let out a
shocked cry. “Agh…Tas-Tassin…what are you doing?”
Tassin Hasake was apparently the most sought after boy in the
university next to her school. He was much older above her and the
two had never really talked, except for a few winks and slaps on the
arse from him, and that was just what he did to every other girl. And
now, all so suddenly, he came up to her doorstep and decided to kiss
her! She pressed her lips together and felt the blush rise in her
cheeks.
His
matching brown eyes and hair shone in the golden light coming from
her lamp and she bit her lip taking in the smirking face in front of
her. Already curled lips curled even more as the boy remarked, “You
don’t kiss like other girls… they usually actually open
their mouths, hm, that’s what I like about you; you’re
not like other girls are you Miaka?” Her hair was slightly wet
from her shower just now and with the silence that followed, a drop
of water was heard, falling from her chocolate brown hair.
She
just looked up at him, not knowing what to do. He was very good
looking, yes but she hardly knew anything about him. “I-I think
you should go…” she stuttered, looking at the ground.
That only got a low rumbling chuckle from Tassin as he leaned forward
to bring her chin up to look him in the eye.
“Playing
hard to get are we? Mmmmmm I like games.” His seductive voice
sent shivers up and down her back, and it wasn’t because of the
cold. “I’m not playing- I think that you should leav-“
She was abruptly cut off when his finger began to trace her lips, and
she had half the mind to bite it off and spit it away.
“What
if I don’t want to leave?”
Smirking
herself and folding her arms, she said in a matter of factly tone,
“Well then, I guess my friends will just have to show you
out themselves. They’ll be here in a few minutes…I
suggest you leave now.” She moved to close the door in his face
when a dark, dangerous look overcame his features. He places his hand
hardly on the door to keep it open. Miaka, in anger and fear turned
to run to the kitchen for anything to keep him away. “Tasuki,
Kouji where are you?” She got as far as the living room when he
grabbed her arm and pulled her back to his chest, resting his chin on
her head and playing with her hair.
“Get
off me!” she screamed, fighting against him. It was rather hard
considering she couldn’t hit backwards very well.
“Listen
girly, what Tassin likes, Tassin gets…and right now, you’re
looking like dinner.” He whispered into her ear, pulling her
hair back and running a finger up and down her neck.
“Don’t
touch me you- ugh!” She let out a cry of pain when she was
pushed against her bathroom door, hitting her back rather painfully.
Within seconds, he had pinned her there, eyeing her darkly. “Little
girls don’t talk to me that way, Brown Eyes.” He sneered.
She made a face at his nickname for her and tried her best to push
him away to no avail.
“Well
you obviously scare ‘little girls’ you jerk!”
“Watch
your mouth Brown Eyes, or I may just have to resort to licking it
clean.” He licked his own lip making Miaka cringe. She didn’t
want those lips on hers again…even if they did feel nice
before. But she wasn’t that sort of girl who’d just throw
herself at a guy the minute he shows some interest. Tasuki, Kouji,
where are you! I need you!
He
soon began to lower his face to hers, his long mahogany hair making a
curtain around them. Pressing her lips together as tightly as
possible, she closed her eyes, hoping that due to her lack of
reaction, he’d get tired and leave. Oh Gods, oh Gods no!
Please make him leave! But she continued to feel his breath
getting closer and hotter until a shout made her snap her eyes open.
“Hey pretty boy!”
The
brown haired boy snarled and turned his face away from hers. Over
Tassin’s shoulder, were Kouji and Tasuki, arms folded and with
those expressions that brought back so many memories. She almost
smiled and laughed there and then. Miaka made a move to run past the
tall boy when he chuckled darkly and just pulled her tightly against
him. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t the two infamous
bastards from Murobi University. I suppose these are your friends,
Miaka?”
Struggling
in his grasp, she muttered angrily, “Do you want to hug me or
suffocate me?” She looked helplessly at the two bandits in
front of her as they glared at her captive.
“Let
Miaka go, Hasake.” Kouji said warningly, getting into his
fighting pose. His violet eyes gleamed dangerously and the brown eyed
girl found herself getting nervous not that there was going to be a
fight, but that her duplex was going to be torn apart by their fight.
Another deep rumbling laughter erupted from her captive and she
turned her head round as far as she could go.
“Well
it looks like I’m keeping you from your dinner, Miaka, and I’d
hate to see a pretty thing like you go hungry.” He bent low
kissed her on the neck, taking in her scent as well. “We’ll
meet again, Brown Eyes.” He whispered before letting her fall
to the ground and walking past and out the door. Miaka looked on
after him with wide eyes as Tasuki walked quickly to help her up.
“Miaka, are you hurt?” he asked, his bright and burning
amber orbs sweeping over her for any injuries.
She
opened her mouth but then smiled softly and shook her head, wrapping
her arms around him. “Mm I’m fine. I’m just glad
you both came before…you get the idea.”
Tasuki
just sighed heavily and stroked her back affectionately. Seeing her
pinned to the wall and looking so helpless had truly set his blood on
fire. He hated to think what that bastard would have done to her.
Looking to Kouji, who, going back to his joker self was looking at
her expectantly, she laughed and ran to hug him, getting twirled
around in the process.
Watching
them, Tasuki grinned and settled for looking round her apartment.
“Nice place.” He said, nodding his head appreciatively.
“Thanks!
Oh the pizzas!” the girl shrieked and rushed to the kitchen.
“They’re still hot! Uhm…take your shoes off and
make yourselves at home in the living room! Boujo will show you the
way!” she called.
They
did as they were told, raising their eyes at the name “Boujo.”
“Who’s Boujo?” the blue haired boy asked, stuffing
his hands into his pocket.
“My
cat!”
All
of a sudden, a little white and orange tabby came padding out of one
of the rooms and stopped in front of them and meowed before padding
off again. The two boys watched dumbly as the cat walked away and
raised a brow. “We’re supposed to follow a cat?”
Kouji asked bluntly again.
Tasuki
just growled and sniffed, saying moodily. “I hate cats.”
His
friend just laughed and slapped him on the back. “That’s
right! You’re allergic aren’t ya Tas!”
“No
I’m not! I’m not allergic to anything, idiot!” the
red head shouted defiantly.
“Oh
ho, ho! Getting defensive are we? Ha!” The violet eyed boy
laughed maniacally and followed the little creature. Tasuki growled
and glared after his so-called best friend and just followed him.
They
walked into the large living room, plopping themselves in front of
the TV. “Ah, guys? Do you want beer or sake? Guys these days
like beer for some reason…” Miaka called, peering from
behind the wall.
“Sure,
beer’s good!” Kouji called, clapping his hands together
gladly and eyeing Tasuki with his playful look. The amber eyed boy
just rolled his eyes and smirked. The last time the two of them had
beer, they ended up singing the Japanese national anthem in front of
the class at a party in their boxers. Not something you forget but
they had fun. “Let’s just hope she didn’t buy
much.”
A
few minutes later, Miaka came walking out with three plates of
pizzas, hot and smelling good in all their glory. Three bottles of
opened beer accompanied the small coffee table with the pizzas.
“Yes!
Long time no see my wonderful friend!” the blue haired boy
cheered, taking a long swig of the golden liquid. “Mmmmmm just
the way I remember ya!”
“Ha!
Not like you’ll be remembering anything by the end of the
night!” Tasuki laughed, quirking a grin.
Miaka
just looked bemused, between the two boys as she took a large bite of
her pizza. She had long been over her eating phase and now preferred
to eat slowly and a lot less. Apparently she had a bit of a sugar
problem.
“Eh
Miaka.” Tasuki called, taking a bite of his pizza.
The
brown eyed girl looked up at him quizzically and let out a small
questioning, “Hm?”
“Thanks
for having us over.” He said before turning back to the
television. The girl smiled warmly and continued eating.
A
few hours later, they were all done with the pizza and Miaka had
brought out more beer for the boys. They were unstoppable! Altogether
they had consumed about six bottles. But it did come with its side
effects; they were starting to slur their words and laughed over the
silliest things. “Ano aren’t you going a little over
board with the drinks?” she asked wryly, taking a swig of
lemonade.
“What?
Are you serious? We’re not even half way done! You have more
don’t you?” Kouji asked, looking incredulously at the
girl who nodded furiously, afraid that the blue haired boy was going
to throw a fit if she said she didn’t.
“Good!”
he grinned maniacally as he sat back down again. Tasuki on the other
hand was amusing himself with the little cat on the floor, twirling
it around on its hind legs.
“Hey!
Tasuki! You’ll hurt Boujo!” Miaka said loudly, pointing
an accusing finger at the ginger haired boy.
“Shut
up! This cat is the bearer of bad news! It has giant fleas!” He
retaliated, glaring crazily at her before dropping the cat and taking
a gulp of the amber liquid.
Oh
dear! They’re both drunk! What’ll I do? I can’t
have them go home like this! They might pick a fight or- or worse!
Miaka was starting to worry as she sat in her seat, watching the
two bandits apprehensively. She had honestly never been in a case
where people were drunk and she had no idea what she was supposed to
do about it. Sighing in resignation, she decided to have them stay
the night in hopes that they wouldn’t try anything on her. They
were after all in a rather delusional state. Because Boujo most
definitely did not have fleas!
“Oi,
you two are staying for the night. I can’t let you go home like
this.” She said pointedly, bringing the dishes to the kitchen
and doing the washing.
“Miaka?
Where’s the bathroom?”
“Hey!
I need it first!”
“Shut
up Kouji! I asked first!”
The
girl found herself looking incredulously at the boys. Honestly! They
were acting like children! Shaking her head she said tiredly, “One
of you can use the one near the front door…There’s
another one upstairs to your left.” Hearing the sound of feet
pounding against the floor and the bang of two doors she sighed in
relief. She never thought alcohol could do this to people. But then a
sudden curiosity hit her. What did beer taste like? She’d have
to ask them once they were done.
She
finished the rest of the dishes and went to clear out the living
room. The three of them had made a bit of a mess with tissues,
napkins and cutlery. When she was done, she stretched out her body
and slowly walked outside to put the rubbish in the pick up bin. When
the girl got back in, she found the two boys resting languidly on the
couch. They seemed to have sobered up slightly and were now playing
with their almost empty bottles.
Finding
her chance, Miaka asked suddenly, “What does beer taste like?”
At
the speed of lightning, the two shot up in their seats and looked at
her, bewildered. Shocked at their reaction, she girl froze and bit
her lip. Tasuki was the first speak, stuttering in his deep voice,
“You-You haven’t tried beer?”
“Are
you serious?” Kouji asked next.
Her
brows dipped in thought as she tried to remember. She’d had
it…once. A very long time ago. “Well…I tried it
once, but I can’t remember.”
“Well
here! Take some! It’s good for the soul!”
A
green bottle was shoved in front of her face and she looked dubiously
at it.
“I
don’t think I should…look at how the two of you ended
up.” She said dryly.
Tasuki
snorted and grinned, “I think we turned out pretty well.”
He winked at her, causing a light blush to appear on her fair cheeks.
“Go
on, its not going to kill you.” Looking at the violet eyed boy
nervously, she took the bottle and took a gulp. Her face screwed up
in disgust and she didn’t see the mischievous look that passed
in between the two bandits.
“Hey,
Tas, here.” Kouji passed the bottle to the fanged boy and
winked. They both took a few gulps before opening another bottle.
“It’s
disgusting!” Miaka squealed, pinching her nose, trying not to
taste it.
The
two just laughed before telling her, “That’s cuz we put
sake in it…extra strong sake.”
Gaping
in disbelief at the two runts. She stood up and glared at them. “You
mixed two drinks together? That-That’s just not done you
idiots! My friends told me that it can get you into an even worse
state than drunkenness!”
The
two sweat dropped and raised a brow. “Ah well, too late!”
Kouji said cheerily, taking another drink.
“NO!
That’s enough! For both of you! You’ll wake up with a
hangover in the morning and if you do, don’t blame me…and
don’t throw up on my couch!” She immediately lunged at
them, trying to make a grab at their bottles.
But
the two were quick to react, jumping up quickly and taking the
bottles with them, laughing all the while. “Gomen Miaka! But we
can’t allow you to take these!” Tasuki growled playfully,
heading for the stairs, drinking all the while. She didn’t even
know where Kouji was so she ran up the stairs, taking to at a time.
There was no way she was going to have two complaining idiots in her
house in the morning. Upstairs, the lights were off and she glared
furiously.
They
had tricked her! Tricked her into drinking a mixed drink! From what
she heard about people who did that, she didn’t really relish
their action. That was rude and arrogant and just absolutely mean of
them.
“Tasuki!”
she shouted forcefully. “Where are you! I’m taking that
bottle from you whether you like it or not!”
She
sighed in frustration and stood in the corridor, looking at the
floor. Tasuki wasn’t the sort of person who’d ever give
up or lose and right now he was going to hide if she found him three
years later! “Baka.” She hissed, clenching her fists and
storming into each room in search for him. Finding him in none of
them, the brown eyed girl rolled her eyes and yanked open her own
bedroom door. And sure enough, there he was, sprawled on the bed, one
hand holding the bottle and hanging off the side of the bed. One of
his legs was up and he looked pretty comfortable. Averting his heavy
hooded eyes to hers’, he grinned and said in an exaggerated
manner,
“Miaka!
You found me! Geeze I have to say your bed’s comfy!
Sigh...think I’ll crash here for the night!” So he really
was still a little drunk, she thought with a small smile. She walked
up to him and looked down at his pleading face. Rolling her eyes with
a smirk, the girl nodded and jumped when he let out a cry of utmost
joy.
“WHOO!
Yeah! I was hoping I didn’t have to walk home this late. C’mon!
We’ll have a sleepover!” He laughed maniacally, throwing
his arms out and around her waist, pulling her to the bed and on top
of him.
“Tasuki!”
Miaka blushed at their position and moved to get off him when she
caught that gleam in his amber eyes. She frowned and looked at him
questioningly.
“Miaka…you’ve
got beautiful eyes.” He whispered, his own eyes only half open
and glittering with…something. She didn’t know if it was
the alcohol but those amber orbs shone brightly and beautifully in
her opinion. The girl stopped and looked seriously at him. “They
really are beautiful…like chocolates…”
A
small smile graced her lips and she completely forgot their position
and how close they were. A small laugh escaped her lips as she said
back quietly, “And you’ve got lovely eyes too
Tasuki…they’re as bright and hot as chillies.” She
laughed and propped her elbows either side of his head.
The
half drunken boy smirked and slurred, “I knew I’d get
someone who would call me ‘hot’ to my face one day!”
She
grinned and slapped at his arm. “I was talking about your eyes
you little vain wolf!”
He
chuckled and said half playfully and half wryly, “I know…and
right now…they see something they like.” The smile
slowly slipped from Miaka’s lips as she looked at the picture
of his face. Ginger red hair, beautiful amber eyes, lips slightly
quirked in a grin.
She
couldn’t help but be drawn to him at that moment. A hand found
its way to her cheek as he caressed it and pushed her hair back,
bringing her face closer to his. “Miaka…” He
whispered.
Their
mouths were about to touch when the door suddenly swung open forcing
Miaka to jerk away, and in walked a rather amusing Kouji, bursting
with happiness and laughter. “Friends! I have found thee at
last!” He shouted an empty bottle in his hands. “What’s
this? Slumber parties like you girls call it?”
“Kouji!
Come in! Join the party!” Tasuki shouted, eyes alight and a
huge grin on his face.
Miaka
quickly stumbled off the bed allowing Kouji to jump on. She bit her
lip in shock. She couldn’t even comprehend what she was about
to do. It was just a kiss Miaka…you should have just gone
along with it…
No…you
shouldn’t have…it’s a good this you didn’t…
But…the
look in his eyes…it was all because of the drinks wasn’t
it? She realised with a dampened mood. It may have just been a
kiss…but she hadn’t had a real, earnest one in a long,
long time. Tassin’s was just…play. But the sincere look
on Tasuki’s face and that gleam in his amber eyes…she
was so sure that that kiss would have been real. But now…she
knew though that it just wasn’t right to do something like that
when a person was way out of his mind and then expect something in
return the next day.
That
just wasn’t done. So she sighed and smiled tiredly as the two
boys on the bed sang old songs and laughed their heads off. “Hey!
Miaka, join us!” the blue haired boy called.
Raising
a brow, the girl looked at them pointedly and shook her head, letting
out a cry when he lunged at her and pulled her to sit on the bed with
her. He found her radio next to the bed and turned it on to quite a
high volume. An oldie started playing and Miaka’s face lit up
as the two boys started singing along to it in dramatically deep
chorus, arms around each other’s shoulders and swaying like a
bunch of drunk pirates…well, they were drunk…just not
really pirates.
The
girl laughed and sang along with them, almost falling off the bed
when Kouji stood up and started dancing to the music, making the bed
bounce up and down. So that was how they spent the rest of the night
and a good part of the morning, listening to music and singing and
waking up the neighbours. By the time they had fallen asleep, the
radio was off, all the lights were off, Kouji’s leg was
dangling off the bed, Tasuki’s legs were on top of his
friend and Miaka was curled up in a small corner like always, a happy
smile on her face.
Tasuki
woke up the next morning, seeing the girl curled up next to him. He
quirked that usual wolfish grin and pushed the hair that was covering
her face. His head hurt like a bulldozer had just run over it and he
vaguely remembered singing while Kouji danced but that was about it
really. Wonderful…a bloody hangover! He thought
angrily, getting up slowly.
He
averted his eyes back to the sleeping girl and sighed. There was one
other thing he did remember. They were inches apart and he was about
to kiss her. How in hell could he have done something so stupid? She
was and probably still is in love with Tamahome…even if it was
in their past lives. But they were destined to be together and he had
no right coming in between them. And besides…it wasn’t
as if he had any feelings other than friendship for Miaka…he
was convinced that he was just caught in the moment last night. Beer
and sake did that to you, even if sake wasn’t strong, the
mixture of two body-heating liquids did that to people’s minds.
“Are
you really just going to sit there and look at her all day?” He
heard the other bandit grunt from the other side of the bed.
Rolling
his amber eyes, the former leader of the Mountain Bandits sighed
heavily and sat up. “No…but she looks cold. Put a
blanket on her will ya?” he said, walking to the bathroom.
“Sigh…do
you like her already? I mean what’s it been? Two days?”
“Shut
up, idiot. I don’t like her.”
“If
you say so.” Kouji resigned, getting up and stretching. Looking
down at the chocolate haired girl, he snorted and walked off, saying
under his breath, “Oh yeah, with three layers of clothing still
on she looks real cold.”
