Chapter Two

Yes, I’m updating….^_^;;

You know the drill–I don’t own Death Note, Yadda, yadda.

Warning: I decided to mix it up by putting in some scenes that you won’t see in any of the Death Note Series. Movie, Manga, or Anime…you name it. I’m also speeding up the story, so if it seems a little disorienting then I’m sorry. And if you haven’t noticed from the last two chapters, but I don’t have a beta-reader.

Which made this story hard to edit. As a writer, sometimes it’s hard to notice your own flaws. :(

================================
Ryuuku was kneeling upside down on the ceiling, watching Light sleep. He was deep in thought, after having a brief conversation with the White Death Note while Light wasn’t looking.

It was truly interesting to watch how much a human could change just in a few weeks of having the death note, from a Reaper’s viewpoint. Especially when the said Death Note wasn’t just any regular Death Note, but one that had the ability to possess a body.

At first, he acted like any typical human–losing sleep over what he was doing, and even wrestling with the morals that he had been raised with. There was even times when Light woke up in the middle of night, seeming to feel sick from all the nightmares he was having. It got to the point when his own family even noticed. His own mother had asked if he caught a cold, but naturally Light waved off her concerns and said that he felt fine.
His father just told him not to work himself too hard, thinking that maybe he was feeling stressed from his studies.

But then over a matter of a few weeks, he seemed to quickly change.
Especially when he was reading something on the “ internet ”, as he called it. There was all those things called sites which seemed to have plenty of support for him, which only seemed to bolster his confidence.

Ryuuku jumped from the ceiling and went downstairs into the dark kitchen. As he searched for some more apples, his thoughts shifted gears.

He was still amazed at the human capacity of being subconsciously aware of things on a certain level without even realizing it.
Take the stories of the Grim Reaper, for instance. Save for Death Note users, the majority of humans shouldn’t even know about the existence of creatures like Ryuuku himself. Yet, the idea of a Grim Reaper actually came from a human…and the stories quickly became popular along those humans. All because on a certain level, they knew it was true. He thought that was really interesting for sure!
And on that related note, those humans who made the sites, they actually gave Light the name of “ Kira ”! It’s almost as if they knew what was happening this very moment. To think that they would pick a name so close to the name “ Kiraomi “. It was moments like that Ryuuku wondered if there was some credence to the fact that there was some psychic humans in the world.
It was kind of funny now that he thought about it… Hahahahah!

Ryuuku sighed softly when he realized that they were all out of apples. He would just have to remind Light to buy some more apples in the morning when he woke up.

He floated though the walls all the way up to the roof. He picked a spot there which seemed like a good place to sit. He then idly watched the city scenery, as his thoughts returned back to the main topic of Light.

It was around ten days ago that he started noticing the subtle changes which pointed to the evidence that Kiraomi (or should he use “ Kira ” now?) was already starting to take over light’s body.

It all started when the human named “ L ” appeared on TV to challenge him. Oh boy…that was surely the most entertaining night that he ever had so far!

And with the “ L ” distraction, Light didn’t even notice that he started to do things that, far as he knew, would had never done normally.

Before, he only killed suspects and criminals that he knew for sure was truly guilty. Light had this habit of only killing off criminals who was in the act of committing crimes. Or that the public had plenty of hard evidence that some of those certain people had truly committed a crime.

Now, he pretty much killed those who were simply accused of various acts. Or simply used lists of known suspects that the police had made public in order to collect information. Never mind that for half of those humans, there wasn’t enough evidence or information to be certain if they were truly guilty of any crimes at all.

Not that Ryuuku really cared about the people Light killed, but it was just something he noticed. He couldn’t help but wonder–-Is it because he’s becoming more Shigimami than human? Or is it because he got so flustered and excited at the concept of an rival that he didn’t take the time to check backgrounds like he normally did?

He noticed that the sun was now rising, and so he floated back to Light’s room.

Ryuuku’s eyes flickered in the general direction of the hidden White Death Note, and smiled his typical toothy grin. Everything was interesting lately, and he couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

He had asked the note earlier about how the body possession would work. After all, Ryuuku didn’t understand how taking the body of an human would get Kiraomi’s form back.
So the Death Note pointed out something that all Reapers knew.

Reapers aren’t very sexual beings, so they were all born without no gentila, and so procreation was pretty much impossible. So in order to keep up a population of reapers, Death Notes are often dropped periodically over a couple decades into the Human World. The human who became the owner of a death note would then become reapers. Of course, there was other factors at work besides that. It wasn’t so simple as getting a human to pick up the death notes. There was a certain ritual which bonded the human and the death note together. So if a human was found to be unsuitable according to a reaper’s tastes, then the reaper would never tell the human about the ritual at all.

The White Death Note pointed out the fact that if he was “ bonded ” with a Death Note Human owner when he/she died, he would be reborn as an Reaper again.

Ryuuku then asked, “ Why not just take his body over quickly, and have him kill himself after becoming bonded? You would certainly be reborn quickly instead of wasting time.”

It turned out that Kiraomi was quite picky.
After all, he could merge with a human but he couldn’t erase their conscious thoughts and their “soul”. So naturally he wanted to make sure that the human would be worthy of sharing one body with him.
After all, it wasn’t like Kira couldn’t erase those things… he could repress those things, but the human mind/soul wouldn’t be gone completely. Not even when the human died and gained the body of a reaper.
And if the human did not prove himself worthy, then he would just find some way to move on to a different body that he might feel was more worthy. After all, he was the mighty and famous Kiraomi who nearly became successful in becoming the KING of all Shingiami! So he wasn’t going to settle for just merging with some random human!

Ryuuku didn’t give a crap about Light being “worthy” or not. In fact he was starting to dislike Kiraomi’s egoistical attitude. he was actually worse than Light when it came to ego trips, after all.
He didn’t mind the delay at all, however.
As seeing he wanted to see what would happen with Light and this “L”.

Oh boy, it was going to be SO FUN when the two finally meet!
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––-

Light turned away from the light of the rising sun, and he slowly started waking up. He opened his eyes to find a pair of inhuman eyes staring back at him.

“ Ugh… ”Light groaned, as he sat up in bed. “ Please don’t hover so close to me like that. How many times have I told you about giving me my personal space? ”

Ryuuku seemed to pretend like he didn’t hear that, as he demanded that Light should buy some more apples today.
“Don’t you think you should cut down on your eating habits? If you eat that many apples in one night, you’re bound to have a stomachache or something. ” Light said, as he got out of bed.

Ryuuku gaffed at that. “ Hey, I can’t help it if those apples are delicious, can I? ”

Light smiled slightly as he headed towards his closet to get out his school clothes. “ Well, maybe you should cut it down to one apple a day. After all, those apples are expensive… you wouldn’t want me to become poor now, would you? If I become poor, then I can’t buy you any more apples. ”

Ryuuku considered this. “ Well, I’m okay with eating only one apple a day. ”

“Good. Now please get out, I’m going to change my clothes. ”

“Heheh… I don’t get why you’re so modest about your body. You ashamed of your body or something? ”

“Just get out. ” Light growled a little.

The reaper sniggered, as he disappeared though the wall.

The rest of the day went as normally, far as Light was concerned. The classes were so easy as usual that it was boring. There was just no challenge in going to school, that sometimes he wondered why he even bothered.
and the people he socially interacted with on a regular basis was so predictable. Today wasn’t really any different with those people.
Sometimes, he desperately wished that there was something to challenge him. Something to make him forget about how dull this world truly was. Of course, there was that “ L ”, and the Death Note. He was thankful for that at least.

The day quickly passed by, and when Light got home he was suddenly reminded of that American phrase. What was it…?
Oh yes. “ Be careful what you wish for ”.

Somebody had been in his room. Before he even opened the door to his bedroom, He just knew.
He opened the door, pretending as if there was nothing out of the norm happening. His reaper was chattering away in his ear, even as he discreetly looked around his bedroom.
Everything looked TOO normal for his tastes… and that worried him. He casually got up, and went outside.

“ Heeeeyyy!! Can you hear me? Hello?? ” Ryuuku was waving his arms frantically, annoyed at being ignored.

Light checked his clothes, and then sighed. He then told Ryuuku his suspicions about what was going on in his bedroom. He also told him about the plan that he had already formulated.
//Later that night…//

Light couldn’t believe it at all. L couldn’t had discovered his identity so soon already, did he? Otherwise, why would his room be bugged like this?
There was so many all over too in his room… 36 cameras and microphones in total. Whoever this person was, he sure loved his equipment.

Light stretched, and then got back to his homework. He probably shouldn’t be surprised, now that he thought of it. There had to be had to be a reason why L was known as the best detective in the world, after all.

That doesn’t mean that Light has to panic. All that equipment was probably to watch his every move… to see if he was really Kira. That also meant that This L person didn’t have evidence of any sorts.

Light would beat L at his own game, and act the role of a perfect, normal student!

Light mentally smiled smugly at his ironclad plan. There was no way that L would be able to prove that he was Kira.

That’s when that strange voice in his head started up. “ Are you sure about that? You have no way of beating L if you just play the innocent lamb. If L suspects you already… who are you to assume that this is the only plan he has to catch you in the act? This won’t help you in any way! Find a way to use this against him! Prove to me… that you are worthy of being GOD! ”

Light felt like groaning loudly. That voice AGAIN. God, He had to be losing his mind… what sane person would have a voice in their head?

Light put away his homework, feeling a little bit depressed. He didn’t show it on the outside, naturally.

He couldn’t help but wonder–-was this the price that he had to pay for using the death note? Losing his sanity… was this really worth it, to make the world a better place? Especially when all he gained in return was some annoying voice in his head. Maybe he was just some crazy sociopath in the end. God, that thought was just too depressing for words.

“Hey! Who are you calling annoying?! ” The voice grumbled, sounding irate. It started to rant loudly within his skull.
“You’re the one who’s annoying. I can’t believe you still have the gall to think about your morals. It’s too late for that, buddy. Especially when it was YOU who wrote all those names down just because you were looking out for your own best interests! You didn’t do it to save anybody but yourself. You only killed those two people in the start because you were CURIOUS! If you were truly a moral person… you wouldn’t even thought about writing down even the worst criminal’s name in there! After all, what kind of person would go far as to write down the name of somebody they wanted dead?”

Light laid back on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. He hated to admit it, but that annoying voice was right. It was too late for him. He had gone way too far in this, and he couldn’t be saved from all of this. There was only one thing left to do… and that was to use the Death Note for good.
So if he really wanted to make this world a better place, he had to step up to the plate. Prove to the world (and himself) that he had the balls to become the new god of the world.
If it was anybody who could do this, it was him. He was Japan’s ranked #1 student, after all!

“ That’s the spirit! You know what they say…sometimes to disorient your enemies, you must do something completely unexpected. So if you were to do something you normally wouldn’t do… maybe L would show himself? ”

Light smiled. He just had suddenly came up with a much better plan than the one he was currently using right now…

The voice in his head laughed. “Yes…that one is certainly going to surprise L and his team! They’ll never see it coming, not even your father.”
==========================================================

The end of the second chapter! And more still to come…=D

Yeah, this is where it becomes way different from the live action Movie, The Manga, or even the anime.

It’s funny, because I was actually inspired by all the differing elements of all those three things.

Review as always, please. Of course. :)
