Chapter 3: Is This The End? The Kanto Region Pt2

Ok... So I haven't updated in a LONG time... Sorry about that. I've been really busy dealing with life.
I had a great time writing this chapter.
I hope everyone enjoys this chapter.

Chapter 3: Is This The End? Pt. 3 The Kanto Region, Part 2

After helping Erika out for a couple nights, I went to the Celadon Department Store and stocked up on medicine, bought all the HMs that I would need, and purchased some of the Evolution Stones, a Fire Stone, Leaf Stone, Sun Stone, Dusk Stone, Thunder Stone, and Shiny Stone. Somehow I had forgotten to grab all these things when I went a couple days ago. Afterwards, I decided to rent a bike and head south on Route 17 where I ran into a bunch of bikers who I easily beat, and Ria’na evolved.

The day after I left, I found myself in Fuchsia City and went to the Safari Zone where I caught a Tauros, a Nidorina, a Nidorino, an Exeggcute, and a Kangaskhan. Then I went and stayed at the Pokémon Center for a night.

The next day, I went in search of the Fuchsia City Gym in the forests nearby. After a day of searching, I finally found it and met Janine, the daughter of Johto Elite Four Member, Koga, and former Fuchsia City Gym Leader. She allowed me to stay the night so my Pokémon and I could fight with our full strength, after we agreed on a three on three match. That night I also decided on which Pokémon I would use: Flaps, Tera, and Monko, but not necessarily in that order.

My battle with Janine the next day was very tough; we fought in the forest where the battleground was a square mile in size. Her first Pokémon was a mid- to high-level Nidoqueen who I battled using Tera. Janine had her Nidoqueen start things off with a powerful Ice Beam, so I had Tera dodge with Dig, and just in time. Before Janine’s Nidoqueen could retaliate with Earth Power, Tera popped out of the ground and hit with a power Bone Club to the leg Nidoqueen hadn’t lifted into the air to perform her attack. The Bone Club knocked the Nidoqueen over, but the fight wasn’t over yet, it unleashed a massive Sludge Wave that Tera had no way of dodging, taking the hit and being Poisoned. Tera didn’t look so good, so I knew I had to finish this fast, so I told her to use Bone Club followed by a Bonemerang at point blank range. The first attack hit just as Nidoqueen got up, knocking it over again, and the Bonemerang hit it again as it raised its head to shoot an Ice Beam at Tera. The attacks worked and knocked out the Nidoqueen, and I recalled Tera so she could rest a little and slow down the Poison.

Janine next sent out a mid- to high-level Nidoking and I sent out Flaps. To my surprise, Janine had her Nidoking use a powerful Flamethrower that Flaps barely dodged. I countered by having Flaps use Rain Dance, but I got a horrible surprise, Nidoking used Thunderbolt, which slammed into Flaps from above, almost knocking it out with one shot, and it probably would have if it had come from an Electric Type Pokémon. I told Flaps to be careful and charge Hidden Power while it unleashed a powerful Hurricane attack. The Hidden Power and Hurricane combined, forming a massive water cyclone of crackling energy as it blocked more Thunderbolt attacks from Nidoking. When the massive attack hit Nidoking, it flew hundreds of feet into the air and landed just as far back, crashing through trees, which knocked it out. I almost recalled Flaps at that point, but Flaps seemed to get his second wind.

With Nidoking knocked out, Janine was down to her last Pokémon, a high-level Roserade, which I expected, and was hoping for. Flaps used Hurricane again, but Roserade used a powerful Leaf Storm that pushed back the Hurricane, Roserade was just that powerful and Flaps just that tired. The Hurricane hit Flaps, sending him into the trees, but before he could hit anything, I recalled him, knowing that he was already knocked out. I sent out Monko and told her to be careful because of the rain, even though I didn’t need to tell her anything. Roserade fired a Sludge Bomb and Poison Sting combo attack that Monko could only dodge by using Dig. Luckily for me, the Rain Dance’s power ran out while Monko was underground. When Monko came up, behind Roserade, I told her to use Fire Spin. Roserade tried to counter with Leaf Storm, like it had with Hurricane, but Monko’s attack was too powerful, overwhelming Roserade’s counter. Roserade wasn’t finished yet, though, it had used Substitute without Monko or I even noticing. Roserade suddenly appeared behind Monko and hit her with a powerful Sludge Bomb, covering Monko in sludge and Poisoning her. Monko started to blaze red, then white as she became surrounded by flames. Monko spun around as the flames burned the sludge covering her, and hit Roserade with a massive Flare Blitz, sending Roserade flying through almost a dozen trees, knocked out. Monko collapsed soon after, succumbing to the Poison a little.

Her Pokémon knocked out, and mine slowly dying from Poisoning; Janine recalled Roserade and quickly used Antidotes on both Monko and Tera before handing me the Soul Badge. I elected to stay a couple days while Monko and Tera healed. That’s when I learned that Sabrina, the leader of the Saffron City Gym, had disappeared a year after Ash and that there was a new gym in Saffron City. I thanked her for the information and had Flaps use Fly and take me to Saffron City, the trip took two days.

Upon arriving in Saffron City, I asked where I could find the new Pokémon Gym; it was right next to Sabrina’s gym, which I found humorous. When I walked into the “new” Saffron City Gym, I noticed that ALL the Pokémon inside were male and Fighting Types. I was also greeted by the sounds of someone lecturing that male Pokémon were superior to female Pokémon, this annoyed me a great deal. I found the Gym Leader, who was the one giving the lecture, and challenged him to a match. He told me his name was Kimley, before recognizing me as one of the Semifinalists of the last Sinnoh League Championships and remembered that, for the most part, my Pokémon were female. He laughed at me and declared that it was luck that I got so far in the Sinnoh League Championships. This pissed me off more, but I kept a cool head and asked him what he meant. That’s when he declared that no female Pokémon could defeat his Pokémon. That was the last straw, I challenged him to a three on three all Fighting Types match, my girls vs his guys, once a Pokémon was returned, it was out. He laughed and agreed, calling me all kinds of things as I left for the Saffron City Pokémon Center so I could retrieve Kageko, my Toxicroak, and get a night’s rest.

Before heading to the Gym the next day, I talked to Tadko and explained to her that I needed her to evolve into a Poliwrath. It wasn’t until later that I learned that she was just waiting for me to evolve her. Now that I had my team of Fighting Type Pokémon, Monko, Kageko, and Tadko, I headed to the Gym.

Kimley was surprised that I even showed up, but was more than happy to “teach” me the error of my beliefs…

The battlefield was a normal gym battlefield, with wood paneling. Kimley sent out his first Pokémon, a mid- to high-level Hitmonlee. I sent out my newly evolved Tadko, who I used a TM to teach Brick Break to. Before I could tell her to do anything, Tadko used Mind Reader, to my surprise. Kimley ordered his Hitmonlee to use Low Sweep and follow it up with Brick Break. Realizing that Tadko had a plan, I told her to do what she thought best, she jumped over the Low Sweep and hit Hitmonlee with a Dynamic Punch before it could recover and use Brick Break. I watched in shock as Hitmonlee started to hit itself with Close Combat, causing itself a lot of damage. Unable to watch Hitmonlee beat itself up, I told Tadko to finish it, and she hit Hitmonlee on the head with a powerful Brick Break that scored a Critical Hit, and knocking out Hitmonlee.

Kimley was pissed and called me a cheater before sending out a very high-level Scrafty that I doubted was used in a gym battle in a long time. Kimley had it use the same combination of Low Sweep and Brick Break that he had Hitmonlee use, the only difference being that Scrafty succeeded in hitting Tadko with Low Sweep. Tadko was able to block the Brick Break with her own Brick Break. Scrafty tried to use another Brick Break, but Tadko was faster and pushed it back with a powerful Waterfall attack. Tadko used Mind Reader again, and Scrafty used Rockclimb, hitting her hard and sending her flying, and almost out of the ring which would have constituted as a knockout. Tadko, now infuriated, unleashed a Dynamic Punch on Scrafty that was so powerful that it went straight through a wall.

Shocked, and practically red with anger, Kimley recalled Scrafty and sent out a max-level Lucario, and I knew I might be in trouble. I told Tadko to quickly use Mind Reader, hoping she could use it to help her dodge attacks. Lucario was much faster, hitting Tadko with an Extremespeed that sent her flying into me, knocked out. I should have been hurt from the impact, but Tadko did something that I can’t explain before hitting me, softening the blow. I returned her, telling her she did a great job. I only had one Pokémon who might be a match for this Lucario, but I knew that she could only do it if Lucario was weakened a little bit, first. I sent out Kageko, and told her to take the first hit. Kimley laughed, and declared that Tadko was weak, I countered by saying that she was a good deal lower in level than Lucario, and that even his Scrafty was a good deal higher in level, too. He growled and told Lucario to use Close Combat, a big mistake on his part. Lucario hit Kageko with a powerful Close Combat that would have knocked her out if it hadn’t been for the fact that she was a Fighting and Poison Type Pokémon. Kageko retaliated with a powerful Revenge uppercut, sending Lucario flying. Lucario landed on its feet, taking a good amount of damage, but not as much as I had been hoping for. Lucario launched a massive green, purple, and blue ball of energy at Kageko, a Dragon Pulse. I quickly recalled Kageko before she could get hit.

I had one Pokémon left, Monko. I sent Monko out and told her to use Fire Spin, the attack surrounded Lucario. I didn’t expect what came next; suddenly the Fire Spin attack was surrounding a bright blue ball of energy floating inches above Lucario’s paw, an Aura Sphere. Lucario launched the Fire Spin charged Aura Sphere, hitting Monko in the chest and surrounding her with her own Fire Spin attack. The Fire Spin turned blue, then white as the flames became hotter and saw Monko turning white as well. I grinned and told Kimley that he was about to lose, he scoffed at my claim. I told Monko to use Mach Punch to get in close and follow it up with Close Combat. Kimley told Lucario to counter with its own Close Combat. The two Fighting Type Pokémon collided with a flash so bright that everyone was blinded for a couple minutes. When we could see again, Lucario was being forced out of the ring by Monko, he speed outmatching Lucario’s by an immense amount. I told her to finish it, and she hit Lucario with a Rock Smash just under its spike, sending it out of the ring, knocked out in such a way that it didn’t fall over.

Again, Kimley declared that I had cheated, but everyone watching the fight started clapping while the referee watched the replay of the final match. After watching the replay almost a dozen times, the referee declared that I had won fair and square. Kimley refused to give me his gym badge, the Smash Badge. Hearing this, the referee declared Kimley unfit to be a Gym Leader because of his sexism and lack of conduct, pulled out a Smash Badge, and gave it to me. The referee also informed me that this badge would only be good until the end of the next Indigo League Tournament, after which it would no longer be considered an official badge of the Indigo League. I thanked him and left the gym, Monko following close behind, seemingly uninjured, with Kimley yelling that he would get his revenge on me one day.

By the time Monko and I arrived at the Pokémon Center, she had already collapsed from her injuries, so I ended up carrying her most of the way. I stayed the night at the Pokémon Center, and congratulated my three Fighting Types who worked so hard. I decided that I’d Fly back to Pallet Town and just Surf to Cinnabar Island by going south on Route 21 the next day.

The flight to Pallet Town took about a week, during which time Ria’na evolved into an Electivire after we found an Electirizer.

I visited Professor Oak as soon as I touched down in Pallet Town and visited with my Pokémon that I had left there. I spent a couple days in Pallet Town, making sure that all my Pokémon staying there were completely “satisfied”. When I left Pallet Town, I said good-bye to Kageko who I was leaving with Professor Oak to care for again.

The trip to Cinnabar Island lasted two weeks, and wasn’t very eventful. I had decided to just Surf to Cinnabar Island in hopes that I would some cool Water Type Pokémon, but all I ran into was Tentacool, Tentacruel, and the occasional Seaking.

Cinnabar Island was much prettier than I could have imagined, this was before the volcano erupted. I chose to just chill for a couple days before searching out Blaine and challenging him to a match.

The match was a simple one, three Pokémon each, but the battlefield was scary, we were going to be fighting upon a steel platform hanging hundreds of feet above the lava.

My first Pokémon was Tadko and Blaine’s first Pokémon was a high-level Rapidash. I was unsure if I should be worried or not. Blaine’s Rapidash started by using Sunny Day, hoping to weaken Tadko’s Water attacks, but Tadko immediately countered with Rain Dance, hoping to use her Special Ability, Swift Swim, to her advantage and nullifying the Sunny Day. This turn of events frustrated Blaine, but he kept his cool and told Rapidash to use Wild Charge. Tadko tried to dodge, but Rapidash was too fast, crashing hard into Tadko, sending her over the edge. I ran to the edge with Tadko’s Pokeball in hand, getting ready to call her back, but I found her hanging onto the edge. Tadko climbed back onto the platform and charged forward using a powerful Waterfall attack that hit Rapidash right under its chin, sending it flying into the air. Rapidash landed in heap, knocked out from the damage caused by its Wild Charge and Tadko’s Waterfall attack.

Blaine returned his Rapidash and sent out an even higher lever Magmortar. I recalled Tadko, wanting to save her for in case I needed her to finish off a Pokémon, and sent out Ria’na. This was Ria’na’s first gym battle, but she was ready. What came next came as a complete surprise as Blaine made a major blunder by having Magmortar use a Thunder Punch on Ria’na. The attack hit Ria’na and her Special Ability, Motor Drive, activated, increasing her speed. Ria’na retaliated with Low Sweep and Thunder Punch, both scoring good hits. Magmortar, seeing that it would need its fire attacks, used Sunny Day and followed it with a powerful Fire Blast; Ria’na countered the Fire Blast with Thunder. The attacks collided with a big explosion that knocked both Blaine and me over. I asked Blaine if his Magmortar knew Flare Blitz, and his response was telling Magmortar to use Flare Blitz. I quickly responded by telling Ria’na to use Wild Charge. Our Pokémon collided with an explosion that knocked out both Magmortar and Ria’na. Unbeknownst to either of us, the heat from Magmortar’s Flare Blitz had made the volcano we were battling inside, active.

We returned our Pokémon, and Blaine sent out a very high level Houndoom while I sent out Monko. I told Monko to use Mach Punch, but before she even moved, Houndoom was behind her and Monko was kneeling, gasping for breath. It took me a second, but I realized that Houndoom had used Sucker Punch. With that knowledge, I realized that ranged combat would probably be best, but the only ranged attack Monko knew was Fire Spin, an attack weak against Houndoom. Grinding my teeth, I chose to use melee combat, right before Monko recovered her breath and hit Houndoom in the gut with a powerful Mach Punch. I immediately told her to follow up with Close Combat, and she pummeled Houndoom. Houndoom broke away by using a point blank Shadow Ball, hitting Monko right in the face. It followed up by using Fire Blast, which Monko countered with Fire Spin. The volcano rumbled and Blaine looked over the edge of the platform. He told me to watch out as a pillar of magma came up and burned through one of the chains. The match was over; we returned our Pokémon and ran as the volcano quickly filled with magma.

As soon as we got outside, I sent out Tadko and had her use Rain Dance, followed by Surf. I was hoping that she might be able to cool down the magma before the volcano could erupt, it didn’t work. Sirens started to go off as everyone began evacuating Cinnabar Island in any way they could. I called out Monko and Tera, and told them to use Dig to make trenches in the ground leading away from the city and towards the sea. Blaine helped by sending out a Rhydon who did the same thing. While some of our Pokémon was digging trenches, I ran to the Pokémon Center and had Professor Oak send me Liq, my Floatzel, hoping that a combined Surf from Liq and Tadko might be able to cool down the lava that would come down the volcano. I rushed back to Blaine, sending out Floatzel as soon as I got there. I told Tadko and Liq to use a combined Surf attack on the lava that was coming out of the trenches as I returned Monko and Tera to their balls, and Blaine recalled Rhydon. The Surf worked, making a wall of stone on our side of the trench from the lava that overflowed the trenches. Seeing that there was nothing left that we could do, Blaine and I ran for the harbor and boarded the last ship, after I recalled Tadko and Liq.

We watched as the volcano continued to erupt, but the hard work that Blaine, and I, and our Pokémon, had done, saved most of the city and saved everyone in it. As the ship headed for Pallet Town, Blaine thanked me and gave me the Volcano Badge, stating that if the match had continued, he would have lost.

The trip to Pallet Town only lasted a week. When the ship arrived, Blaine thanked me again before I disembarked. The ship, and Blaine, left for Cinnabar Island the next day.

I spent the next few days in Pallet Town, watching the news as it covered the recovery effort on Cinnabar Island. This gave me time to realize how stupid I had been by risking the lives of my Pokémon and myself fighting the volcano. I apologized to Monko, Tera, Tadko, and Liq, but they just hugged me, happy that I had decided to fight the volcano instead of running. The last night we spent in Pallet Town, I made passionate love to Monko, Tera, Tadko, and Liq; they had earned and asked me for it. I also learned that Monko had two Special Abilities, Blaze and an ability called Final Victory. Apparently Final Victory activates when the Pokémon is taking continuous damage, such as from Poison, a Burn, or weather effects, or if it was being affected my Condition, like Paralysis or Confusion. When activated, all moves that the Pokémon uses has its damage increased by 10%, however the Pokémon also takes 10% recoil damage.

I praised as a hero in Pallet Town, and by much of the rest of the Kanto Region, and even parts of the Johto region, I would find out later. It felt good to be recognized, but I had to go. I left Liq with Professor Oak and left for Viridian City on Route 1, for the second time in my career, and arrived in one week, once again.

I found Gary Oak, grandson of Professor Oak, waiting for me at Viridian City’s southern gate. He greeted me and escorted me to the Pokémon Center. Thanks to him, I wasn’t hounded by people wanting my autograph. After my Pokémon were healed, he invited me to stay at the Viridian City Gym tonight so that we could have a Gym Battle the next day, I agreed. He escorted me to the gym and we agreed on a best two out of three match, with both of us using a Fire Type, Water Type, and Grass Type Pokémon, but not necessarily in that order.

The match was held right after breakfast the next day, and there was a massive crowd of people wanting to watch our fight, it was almost overwhelming, a majority of the crowd was rooting for me.

Gary sent out a very high-level Golduck and I sent out Tadko. I knew this would be a hard fight, Golduck could learn Psychic Type attacks, and Tadko was a Water and Fighting type. I told Tadko to use Mind Reader, hoping to use it to dodge any Psychic attacks, Gary’s Golduck countered with Confusion, hitting Tadko hard. Tadko wasn’t done yet, though, and charged at Golduck, hitting it with an even more powerful Dynamic Punch. Golduck used a point blank Hyper Beam attack, hitting Tadko square in the swirl and sending her flying, she didn’t get up.

Tadko was declared unable to battle, but alive, so Gary and I recalled our Pokémon. Before we sent out our next Pokémon, I called out Buns and asked her to take Tadko to the Pokémon Center.

Gary’s next Pokémon was another very high-level Pokémon, an Exeggutor, so I sent out Shrooms, my Parasect. I knew I had definite type advantage, but Gary had a level advantage, I also knew that my Shrooms’ Stun Spore and Spore attacks would have no effect on Exeggutor. I told Shrooms to start with X-Scissor, Shrooms charged forward, faster than I thought possible and hit Exeggutor before Gary could call out a counter. The attack caused a lot of damage, but Exeggutor wasn’t down yet. It smashed into Shrooms with Wood Hammer, sending him flying. Exeggutor’s leaves started to glow white, and I knew what that meant. Shrooms also knew what that meant, and charged forward again, hitting with X-Scissor again. Right before Shrooms hit, though, Exeggutor shuddered, it had been Poisoned by Shrooms’ Special Ability, Effect Spore! That said, Shrooms’ X-Scissor finished off Exeggutor and the Solarbeam that it had been charging fired harmless into the air.

We recalled our Pokémon, and Gary sent his Exeggutor with one of his helpers to the Pokémon Center to be healed. I sent out Monko and Gary sent out a very high-level Charizard. This match was going to be fun, it seemed. None of Monko’s attacks would be very effective, and I wasn’t sure if Monko would be able to activate Final Victory. Before I could finish figuring out my strategy, Gary’s Charizard flew up high. I knew what was coming so I told Monko to use Dig, and just in time, too, as the Charizard came diving down and barely missed Monko with a Fly attack. When Monko poked her head out of the ground, I told her to use her most powerful Fire Spin attack. Charizard roared and fired back with an extremely powerful Blast Burn, sending Fire Spin right back at Monko. The combined attacks hit Monko, surrounding her with flames, and Final Victory activated, the flames turned blue and then white as Monko turned white. Apparently luck was on my side that day. Gary looked on with shock, remembering that this is how I beat Lt. Surge’s Raichu, Erika’s Abomasnow, Janine’s Roserade, and the Lucario of former Saffron City Gym Leader Kimley.

Now the match had truly begun. I told Monko to use Close Combat, taking advantage of the fact that Blast Burn temporarily makes the user unable to attack. Monko slammed into Charizard, causing massive damage, but Charizard wasn’t done, it grabbed Monko and flew up into the air, before diving back down and throwing Monko with a Seismic Toss. Monko hit the ground and it cracked underneath her. Monko’s Blaze activated now, causing the flames already surrounding her because of Fire Spin to become even bigger. I told her to use Flare Blitz. She jumped to her feet then jumped high into the air, the flames growing in size, and ran right into Charizard with a sickening crunch. The two Pokémon fell out of the sky and crashed into the ground, leaving a pair of craters. Neither moved for a minute and the referee was about to call a tie, but Charizard and Monko slowly climbed to their feet at the same time, panting. Monko started to fall forward, but caught herself with her right paw. Charizard, having only seen Monko starting to fall, passed out and fell over onto its stomach. Monko was declared the winner and the crowd went wild, deafening everyone.

Gary and I recalled our Pokémon, and he slowly walked over. Gary congratulated me as he handed me an Earth Badge, my eighth Kanto Gym Badge. We walked out together and ran to the Pokémon Center to check on our downed Pokémon, and to get away from the crowd in the Gym.

We were relieved to find out that our hurt Pokémon would be just fine. That’s when Gary asked me something that I will never forget, he asked that I keep an eye out for Sabrina. I said sure, but asked him why, he responded by telling me that she was his girlfriend and that he was very worried about her. Gary also informed me that the next Indigo League Tournament wouldn’t be for five months and asked if I would stay and train with him until it was time for the Tournament to begin. I agreed and we trained side by side for five and a half months before I left for the Indigo Plateau, the trip took a week.

The Indigo League Tournament went really smoothly, starting seven days before my sixteenth birthday. I swept through all my matches, not taking a single loss, and won the Indigo League Tournament. I returned to Pallet Town, by flying, on my birthday was welcomed by my family, Dawn, Maylene, Candice, Gardenia, Paul, Barry, Professor Oak, Mrs. Ketchum, and all of the still active Kanto Gym Leaders.

I would stay for a week before continuing on to the Johto Region to enter the Johto League… Or so I thought.
