It really shouldn’t be giving him a case of the warm fuzzies, all things considered, but Yohji knew he had a dopey sort of smile on his face as he let himself into the apartment. The television was advertising new and improved spoons, Aya was curled up at one end of the couch, and Schuldich was sprawled in a way that seemed physiologically impossible, with his head comfortably on Aya’s thigh. And Aya’s hand resting on his head, fingers tangled a bit in long orange hair.
Nothing that vicious had any business looking that…happy. But Schuldich looked damn content.
Yohji closed the door as quietly as possible, slipped off his shoes, and tip toed into his own home. If Schuldich could curl up in a fit of domestic content, if Aya could relax enough to fall asleep, then maybe there was some hope left for Yohji.
At the moment, hope involved creeping out onto the balcony, enjoying a smoke, and then joining the ranks of the pleasantly unconscious. The problem with falling asleep was that sort of between time where the brain wandered along after anything that caught its fancy or fascination. Gods, demons, and long dead lovers were all free game, and some far more welcome than others. Anxiety and unhappiness curled in his gut, getting ready to abuse him through another long night and into another morning of heavily caffeinated breakfast.
‘I don’t know how you are still alive.’
“Neither do I.” Yohji chuckled before taking a drag on his cigarette. His ghosts had a sense of humor tonight. That was a pleasant change.
‘That’s it, get to bed you delusional ass. Your angst is keeping me awake.’
Yohji had a second to open his mouth in a confused complaint before everything else was overrun with an almost desperate need to be curled in bed and asleep. He remembered to put out his cigarette…
______________
‘Coffee?’
Yohji bit his tongue on a yelp and shot into a sitting position. Schuldich. Had slept on his couch. “What is your fascination with giving me a heart attack?”
‘Heart attack does not lead to caffeine. It’s not in my best interest. Neither is moving right now.’
Cranky and still half asleep, Yohji went to scratch at his stomach. “The hell…” He was still in his jeans. Hell, his shirt was still on. His mouth tasted fuzzy with a good dose of sleep and a side order of stale cigarette…
‘Sleep well? I know I did.’
Mostly, Yohji had to piss. Badly. His bladder howled for attention almost as loudly as his apparently neglected mouth. He couldn’t have come home in bad shape last night. He had come straight from sorting things out with Weiss…had indulged in a smoke…
‘And then pissed and moaned about cruel fate out on the balcony, being too loud for any poor telepath within range to get any decent rest. You should be thanking me, you know.’
“Stay the hell out of my head.”
‘People keep saying that.’ Schuldich managed to sound put upon, even through the slight hint of laughter.
“Son of a…” Yohji groaned, hauling himself out of bed. It felt like he had slept on his one side all night. Muscles moaned and joints popped as he attempted a vertical position.
‘Hey, Yohji.’
“I thought I told you to stay the hell out of my head.”
‘Well, I was hoping you could go out for breakfast or something.’
“I’m not buying you breakfast…”
‘I want you. To go out. Aya is waking up and I’m hoping he will notice where my head is. But he has this damn hang-up about blowjobs when his coworkers are around.’
“Did you need to send me an image with that one?” Yohji shifted a bit with a frown, his groin trying to decide between need to piss and desire to fuck. Deciding that was too touchy a topic to dwell on, Yohji settled for a quick run to the bathroom for urination, washing, and tooth brushing, and then running for his life, wallet in hand.
It took him a few blocks to realize he had absolutely no idea what was open at eight in the morning.
______________
‘Aya…’
Purple eyes cracked open, then narrowed in a wince as Aya’s neck informed him that sleeping sitting on the couch had been a horrid idea.
“Aya.”
Aya cautiously stretched his stiff neck and looked down. Schuldich smiled, and nuzzled against his thigh, exhaling a sigh of contentment directly onto Aya’s groin. “Schuldich…”
“Good morning.” A hand worked at the zipper of Aya’s pants as Schuldich hummed happily.
“Schu…”
“Relax for once and enjoy being alive.” Confident hands urged Aya to shift, to lift and allow his pants to be slid down and off, to trust briefs to follow.
“Schu.”
‘Ma always told me not to talk with my mouth full.’
“That….was terrible.”
‘Yeah? Is this?’
All thoughts of terrible jokes and inappropriate locations vanished in as Schuldich did something spectacular with his tongue. Against his better sense Aya decided to take Schuldich’s advice. Life was rather enjoyable at the moment.
