Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon, that belongs to Nintendo. The only things I own are the Human Characters in my story that I personally created. I do not make money off of this. |
No sex in this chapter, though one of the characters seems to want some, lol. I hope you enjoy this chapter, it was fun to write.
I hope I don't offend anyone with how I have decided to portray Falkner.
Chapter 4: Is This The End? Pt. 4 The Johto Region Part 1
It was the day that I was supposed to leave for New Bark Town of the Johto region, but something was nagging me. Suddenly I remembered, I had promised Lt. Surge a rematch as soon as the Indigo League was finished. Luckily for me, he was still in town, so I didn’t have to go far to get the rematch.
Lt. Surge laughed when I challenged him to the rematch, saying that at this point he didn’t really care if we had one or not, but he accepted nonetheless. Together we headed to the outskirts of town so our battle wouldn’t cause any damage to it, both of us vividly remembering our last battle together.
Lt. Surge sent out his Raichu and I sent out Monko. Our Pokémon squared off, staring each other down for a couple minutes, and then the match started. Raichu unleashed a powerful Thunder attack that Monko only dodged by using Dig. Lt. Surge and Raichu were ready for this counter attack, though, and Raichu sent a powerful Thunderbolt attack into the hole Monko had just dug. Luckily for me, and Monko, Monko was just a little bit faster and came out of the ground a mere half a second before the electric attack came flying out, barely missing her tail. I gave a sigh of relief before telling Monko to use Fire Spin. Raichu tried to block Fire Spin with a Thunderbolt, but Fire Spin was too strong and just combined with Thunderbolt before hitting Raichu. Raichu was enveloped in a tornado of fire and electricity, taking massive damage from the fire, but almost being recharged by the electricity. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a huge lightning bolt came out of the sky and struck Monko, scoring a Critical Hit. It took me a second, but then I realized Raichu must have somehow used Thunder while in the vortex of fire and electricity. Monko was panting and I started to get worried, at least until Blaze kicked in. I gave a silent sigh of relief knowing that Blaze could change the tide in this battle. I was about to have Monko use another Fire Spin when I remembered Monko’s other special ability, Final Victory, and Raichu’s special ability, Static. I told Monko to get in close with Mach Punch and unleash Close Combat. Monko charged forward at awesome speeds, speeds so great that the air popped as she broke the sound barrier, briefly. The punch started to send Raichu flying, but Monko grabbed its tail and pulled it back in, Raichu taking a powerful knee right into the stomach. Lt. Surge tried to have Raichu counter with Mega Punch, Brick Break, and even Rock Smash, but Monko was just too fast, at least until Raichu’s Static struck. Monko was Paralyzed, and her Final Victory special ability kicked in right before she landed another powerful punch to the mouse’s jaw. Raichu was sent flying in the air and landed ten feet away in a heap, but Monko suddenly became enveloped in electricity and had to kneel. Raichu was the first to get up onto both feet and it used Volt Tackle. I told Monko to counter with Flare Blitz, but Monko couldn’t move and was sent flying backwards almost thirty feet. I thought it was over, but Monko slowly stood and she had a look in her eyes that said that she would never stop fighting. Monko charged forward with a Mach Punch/Flare Blitz combination and crashed into Raichu with such force that the air crackled. Raichu was sent skidding along the ground, knocked out. Lt. Surge and I shared a look of surprise before he returned Raichu. He thanked me for keeping my promise and wished me luck in Johto.
We headed back to Pallet Town since night had almost fallen. I ended up staying longer than I meant to, but oh well, that only meant that I could spend more time with the Pokémon I was leaving behind. I had decided that I would only take Pokémon that were native to the Johto Region plus Monko and Buns. This meant that I would have only four Pokémon with me to start; Monko, Buns, Ria’na, and my old friend, Treekage.
The next day I left with my Pokémon, heading for New Bark Town by going through Tohjo Falls. The trip would take two weeks, but oh well.
I arrived in New Bark Town and met Professor Elm. He was a… very interesting Pokémon Researcher, I guess, and he asked me to take a Pokémon Egg with me on my journey. I agreed, hoping it would be a Chikorita or maybe even a Cyndaquil. I only spent a day in New Bark before heading towards Cherrygrove City by way of Route 29.
I arrived at Cherrygrove a week later, disappointed that all the Pokémon along Route 29 stayed as far away from me as possible. I spent the night at Cherrygrove before heading north on Route 30, heading towards Dark Cave and Violet City.
A week into my travels a ran into an injured Murkrow, and I mean injured, the poor thing couldn’t even hobble away as I approached, let alone fly. I was surprised to find that it still had a lot of fight in it when it used a Peck attack on my hand when I tried to pick it up. After talking to it for a few moments it calmed down and allowed me to examine it. Both wings were broken and its right leg was badly bruised, I told it that I was going to have to capture it so I could take it to a Pokémon Center, and it reluctantly agreed. I caught the Murkrow and then pulled out my map; it would be another week and a half before I arrived at Violet City, and so I decided to turn back towards Cherrygrove. Six days into the walk back to Cherrygrove, the egg I received from Professor Elm started to glow, so I quickened my pace and arrived in Cherrygrove the next morning and quickly ran to the Pokémon Center.
The Nurse Joy on duty took Murkrow to the ER as soon as I told her what was wrong with it. An hour later she came back just in time to see my egg flash again. She hurried me to the back so she could perform a check up on the egg and tell me about Murkrow. It seems that I was right about Murkrow’s wings being broken and that its leg had been sprained. Right after Nurse Joy was done performing her check up on my egg, it flashed and started to hatch. I was surprised, and maybe just a little disappointed, when a shiny Totodile appeared out of the egg. Even so, I picked up my new Totodile and hugged it close before Nurse Joy could give it a check up to make sure it was ok. I put Totodile back down, my mind cruising through all the possible names I could name it while Nurse Joy looked it over. I couldn’t decide on a name until Nurse Joy told me that Totodile was a girl, I named her Kroka. Kroka seemed to like her new name and jumped in joy, and then she started to dance. I asked Nurse Joy to take me to see Murkrow, and she asked me to follow her. Kroka and I followed Nurse Joy to one of the recovery rooms and told me to be quiet because Murkrow was asleep and she informed me that Murkrow was a girl, too.
I quietly sat down in a chair next to Murkrow’s bed, setting Kroka on my lap. A couple minutes late Murkrow woke up and stared right at me as though thanking me for helping her, I smiled back and asked her how she was doing. She cawed softly and tried to get up, but I told her not to move around too much and she stopped. Nurse Joy arrived a few minutes later to check on us and found me having a conversation with Murkrow where I was telling her about my adventures and everything. She scolded me a little bit for waking up Murkrow, but she was happy that Murkrow was awake and already feeling better. She then informed me that if Murkrow continued to heal rapidly that she would be healed enough to leave in a couple days. At that moment I realized that Murkrow wasn’t really my Pokémon, yet, I had only caught her so that I could take her to a Pokémon Center. With that realization I asked Murkrow if she would like to stay as one of my Pokémon or not, or at least I tried to, as soon as I asked if she wanted stay with me she let out a happy caw. I smiled and petted her head a little bit before she fell asleep. I slowly stood up and joined Nurse Joy outside of the recovery room where she asked me if knew how Murkrow got injured. I told her what I knew and left so I could train Kroka for the rest of the day.
Over the next couple days I trained Kroka and she learned Water Gun, Rage, Bite, and Scary Face, plus the moves she already knew; Scratch and Leer. During this time I also debated on what to name Murkrow, eventually settling on Raven. On the fourth day at Cherrygrove, I decided that it was time to head out, especially since Raven could fly again, albeit not very fast or for very long. Once again, I headed north on Route 30 and after a week I found myself in the exact same spot I had found Raven over three weeks ago.
Upon stepping into the clearing I found a swarm of Pinsir attacking a lone Heracross, and now I knew what had happened to Raven. I sent out Monko, Buns, Treekage, Ria’na, and Kroka to drive off the Pinsir swarm. I sent out Kroka in hopes to level her up a little more, and I didn’t send out Raven because I figured she wasn’t quite ready to battle again. Monko, Buns, Treekage, and Ria’na easily took out their foes, but Kroka, who was lower in level, had a harder time. I had Kroka use Rage so that each time she was hurt her next attack would be stronger. A Pinsir used Vicegrip on her, dealing a lot of damage, but Kroka countered with a Rage-enhanced Scratch to the face, followed up by a Rage-enhanced Bite. The Pinsir tried to fight back with Brick Break, but Kroka was too fast and hit with another Rage-enhanced Scratch. I thought it was over, but then the Pinsir countered with a powerful Revenge, hitting Kroka hard and sending her flying into a tree. I started to run over to the tree, but then a white light came pouring out of the tree and Croconaw jumped out of it at the Pinsir, hitting it with a very powerful Rage-enhanced Bite and Scratch combo, knocking it out. At this point, all the other Pinsir were running away from my other, higher level, Pokémon and the Heracross just stared at my team and me with eyes full of fear, at least until Buns used Heal Pulse on it. I returned all my Pokémon except Monko, Buns, and Kroka. Monko and Kroka stood guard while Buns and I checked on the Heracross to make sure it was ok and not badly injured. I knelt in front of the Heracross and it did something that really surprised me, it reached out and touched on of the empty Pokeballs on my belt. It was sucked inside and the ball only shook once before notifying that the Heracross had been caught. I immediately sent out Heracross and it hugged me, chattering its name over and over. I was in shock; this Heracross had decided to join me without me even trying to catch it. Once I was over my shock, I looked over at Buns and she signaled to me that the Heracross was a guy, and then I noticed the hungry look in her eyes which caused me to chuckle a little. I decided to name Heracross, Hercules, and yes I know that sounds pretty stupid, but I couldn’t think of any better names. I recalled all my Pokémon and continued to head towards Violet City.
It was another week and a half before I arrived at Violet City and during that time Kroka learned Ice Fang and forgot how to use Leer. Also, I found out that Raven knew Wing Attack, Assurance, Night Shade, Pursuit, Astonish, and Peck, while Hercules knew Counter, Brick Break, Aerial Ace, Fury Attack, Endure, and Horn Attack. Another thing I found out was that both Raven and Hercules shared the same special ability, Moxie.
After spending a day recuperating in Violet City, I went to the Gym to challenge the Gym Leader. Falkner agreed to have a three on three battle with me and took me to the roof the gym, which was roughly ten stories tall. The battlefield was definitely made for Flying type Pokémon since it was on the roof.
Falkner sent out a low to mid-level Hoothoot and I sent out Kroka, hoping her Ice Fang attack would make up for the fact that she couldn’t fly. Falkner had Hoothoot use Peck, but I was able to get Kroka to use Rage right before the attack hit. I smiled softly and Falkner said that he figured I’d do something like that. He told his Hoothoot to use Confusion to keep Kroka at bay, and it worked, at least until Kroka was so overcome with Rage that the attacks seemed to just deflect off of her. I told Kroka to use Ice Fang and she charged forward, taking every hit from Hoothoot, and jumped into the air, latching her fangs onto its leg. Nothing moved for a few seconds, and then suddenly ice started to creep up Hoothoot as it became Frozen and fell out of the sky. Kroka had won in her first gym match.
Falkner returned his Frozen Hoothoot to its ball and sent out a high-level Dodrio, I immediately returned Kroka knowing that one hit from that bird would knock her out. I decided to send out Ria’na knowing that she would be good in both close up and ranged combat. When Falkner expressed his surprise at how I managed to have such a powerful Pokémon, I merely smiled and told him that Ria’na wasn’t my only really strong Pokémon. Falkner told his Dodrio to use Agility while I told Ria’na to use Flash. Everyone and everything on the rooftop was blinded by Ria’na’s Flash attack, in fact Dodrio was so blinded that it ran right into her and bounced off. As soon as my vision cleared enough that I could see clearly I told Ria’na to attack with Wild Charge. Ria’na was enveloped in arcing blue electricity as she charged at the mostly blind Dodrio. The impact sent Dodrio flying off the roof and Falkner had to scramble to recall it.
Falkner wasn’t very happy that I just one-shot one of his more powerful Pokémon and sent out his strongest, a very high-level Pidgeot. I recalled Ria’na who was panting after that impressive Wild Charge and sent out Buns. At first Falkner thought it was funny that I was using an oversized rabbit to fight a giant bird but that ended as soon as Buns hit his Pidgeot with an Ice Punch. He ordered Pidgeot to use Whirlwind, sending Buns back to her ball and bringing out Kroka in her place, much to my dismay. Pidgeot then attacked Kroka with a powerful Quick Attack before I could even recall her, knocking her out. It was my turn to be mad as I recalled Kroka and sent Buns back into the fray. I told Falkner that was a cheap move and he responded that I had made just as cheap a move sending out Ria’na. I glared at him and told Buns to use Agility which Falkner countered by having his Pidgeot use Agility as well. Frustrated, I told Buns to jump and use Return, but Falkner had other plans as he told Pidgeot to counter with Air Slash, sending Buns headlong into the ground. Buns stood up quickly and used Agility again, while Pidgeot dove down at her using Brave Bird. Buns dodged the Brave Bird, but wasn’t able to dodge the following Wing Attack. Luckily, Buns’ special ability, Cute Charm, took effect on Pidgeot, causing the Attract condition. I smiled softly knowing that I had this match almost won and told Buns to use Ice Punch again followed by Return. Falkner tried to get Pidgeot to dodge or counter but it was too enamored and was hit hard by the combination of attacks which ended up knocking it out.
Falkner returned Pidgeot to its ball before throwing the Zephyr Badge to me and walking off the field to the elevator. I returned Buns to her ball and followed when the elevator came back up. At the Pokémon Center Nurse Joy seemed pretty angry when she found out how Kroka received her injuries. At first I thought she was mad at me, but then she said something about reporting Falkner to the League or something like that, I told her that it was ok as long as Kroka was fine. After a few minutes Nurse Joy calmed down and told me that Kroka would be just fine.
The next day I awoken by a pounding on the door to the room I was staying at inside the Pokémon Center, so I opened the door up to see who was pounding on the door. I found myself face to face with the biggest guy I had ever seen, he had to be like seven feet and a half tall and weighing around three hundred pounds. He asked me if I was Daelin from Twinleaf Town and I told him I was. He told me his name was Inspector Thomas of the Johto Silver Conference and I was then informed that Falkner had lodged a formal complaint against me, something about needlessly endangering the lives of Pokémon, and I groaned. He asked me for my side of the story of what happened so I told him everything, including that Ria’na hit harder than what she meant to. He then asked if about some of the details, including how Kroka re-entered the battle and the events leading up to Falkner’s Dodrio being sent flying off the building. An hour into the chat, Nurse Joy showed up and said that if Falkner was making a complaint against me then she wanted to file a complaint against him. Inspector Thomas looked at her, stood up, put away his pen and notepad, and thanked me for my cooperation before leaving. I asked Nurse Joy what that was all about and she informed that Falkner had become somewhat of a sore loser in the last year or so. She then told me that I should stay a couple days just in case Inspector Thomas decided that charges needed to be filed against either Falkner or me.
I followed Nurse Joy’s advice and stayed in Violet City for the next two days, I spend most of it training my Pokémon at Sprout Tower against Rattata, Bellsprout, and the occasional Ghastly, which I tried to catch.
On the fourth day I was in Violet City I was informed by Nurse Joy that it was safe for me to go so I headed south along Route 32 towards Union Cave. The trip was mostly uneventful, but I was able train Raven, Kroka, and Hercules some. The trip to Union Cave lasted a week and a half, and the trip through Union Cave to Azalea Town lasted another week. Needless to say, my lower-level Pokémon and I were exhausted when we reached Azalea Town.
After spending a night at the Pokémon Center so my Pokémon and I could rest, I ran over to the Pokémon Gym and challenged Bugsy to a three on three match. He accepted and led me to a battlefield that was very reminiscent of the one at the Celadon City Gym.
His first Pokémon was a mid-level Ariados and I sent out Raven. Bugsy warned me that if I tried any cheap shots that I would lose automatically. Apparently Falkner had decided to put a giant target on my back. I responded that I don’t believe in cheap shots and if anyone said otherwise then they were sore losers. Bugsy grinned at that statement and told his Ariados to use String Shot. I told Raven to dodge, and she did, easily, and had her counter attack with Wing Attack. Right before she hit, though, Ariados used Sucker Punch, which even though it wasn’t very effective, it still stopped her attack. I told her to use Faint Attack and Wing Attack together, the combo attack hit, and hit hard, sending Ariados flying through the air. While airborne, Ariados launched a String Shot attack so fast that Raven wasn’t even able to dodge it. Ariados pulled Raven in while it landed on all its legs, wrapping her in a snug cocoon before using Leech Life. Raven cawed in pain and I told her to counter with Peck, suddenly a beak broke through the string and stabbed Ariados right in the belly. Ariados dropped Raven and Raven was able to break out the rest of the way. At this point both of our Pokémon were pretty tired so I told Raven to use Night Shade before Ariados could attack, Night Shade hit, knocking out Ariados.
Bugsy congratulated Raven and me before returning his Ariados to its ball. I recalled Raven knowing that unless she went up against a very low-level Pokémon, she would probably lose. Bugsy’s next Pokémon was a high-level Butterfree and I sent out Treekage. Bugsy told Butterfree to use Confusion and I told Treekage to hide among the trees. The Confusion hit Treekage, but it sent her right into the trees where I wanted her to go anyway. Bugsy then told his Butterfree to use Poison Powder over the small stand of trees, but the foliage was too thick and nothing got through. Treekage retaliated with a Faint Attack and Double-edge combo that hit hard, following it up with Stone Edge, which I didn’t even know she knew. Butterfree was knocked out at that point.
Bugsy recalled his Butterfree and sent out a very high-level Scizor. I chose to keep Treekage out even though I knew Scizor was a Bug/Steel Type Pokémon. Scizor started the battle with Swords Dance and I told Treekage to attack with Hammer Arm. Hammer Arm hit, but seemed to do little damage, much to my shock. Scizor hit Treekage with a powerful Metal Claw that almost knocked it out. I was in a bind, most of Treekage’s attacks wouldn’t be very effective and none of them would be super effective. Treekage attacked with Stone Edge, but Scizor dodged and countered with Fury Cutter twice, the second hit knocking her out. I knew what Pokémon to send out, but I was unsure if Bugsy would consider it cheap or not. I was warned that if I didn’t send out a Pokémon soon then that would meant that I was forfeiting. Despite the fact that I didn’t know how Bugsy would see this move, I sent out Monko. Bugsy’s eyes grew huge at the sight of my Shiny Infernape. I asked if using Monko would be ok and he just nodded, still in shock. I shrugged and told Infernape to start off with Fire Spin. The move almost hit, but at the last second Scizor used Double Team to dodge, before hitting Monko with a powerful Slash attack. This battle wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought it would be, apparently. I told Monko to use Mach Punch, the windows rattled as Monko broke the sound barrier, although briefly. The Mach Punch hit Scizor right in the stomach region of its thorax, and hard. Scizor went flying through one of the trees, but it wasn’t knocked out, it stood back up and smiled, or at least I think it did. Scizor shot forward like a bullet, smashing into Monko’s stomach with a powerful Iron Head that would have knocked out most Pokémon, Monko countered with Close Combat, knocking Scizor through a loop but not knocking it out. Bugsy finally commanded Scizor to counter with Slash and Metal Claw, probably hoping the latter would increase Scizor’s attack power. Monko unleashed a powerful Fire Spin in response to Scizor’s counter attacks, encompassing them both in a vortex of fire. Bugsy and I stood in awe as we watched the shadows of our Pokémon fighting each other through the flames. That awe ended when Scizor landed a lucky blow that sent Monko flying through the air. Monko landed right in front of me, on her feet luckily, but she was getting tired. Bugsy’s Scizor charged forward with another Iron Head and I told Monko to counter with Flare Blitz. The two collided with a big bang and a flash, what Bugsy and I both saw next astonished us both, our Pokémon were trading blows again; Scizor using Slash and Metal Claw while Monko used Mach Punch and Rock Smash. The battle went on for probably an hour without any signs of a clear winner. But just before the judge declared a tie, Monko landed a critical Mach Punch to Scizor’s head, knocking it out cold as it went flying through a pair of trees.
Still astonished, Bugsy and I recalled our Pokémon to their balls and Bugsy handed me the Hive Badge. He broke the silence stating that that was the most exciting battle he’s ever had and hoped to battle like that again someday. I told him that I would be happy to battle him again sometime in the future, just not sure when. We parted and I went to the Pokémon Center to heal my exhausted Pokémon, unaware that I was being watched by familiar eyes…

If you think of a Pokémon that you believe Daelin should catch, let me know and I'll try to work it into the story somehow.
