“Riki, that Blondie of yours is spoo-who-kyy,” V said as his greeting to the group.
“Isn’t he though?” cheerfully replied Fidget. “I feel like hiding under the covers just thinking about those cold pale eyes on me.”
“Tell me,” V grinned as he sat himself next to Riki. “Do you ever fear that you’ll get frost bite from being in the same bed as him?”
Riki grunted in good humor at Fidget and V’s jabs about Iason. It probably wasn’t the first time someone wondered the same thing when they looked at his glacier Blondie and him together, but his boys were the only one with balls to comment about it. “ I could say the same thing about you and Orphe, V. How the hell you can kiss that prick is beyond me.”
“Ahh, but its his prick that I have been kiss-“
“Okay! Seriously don’t want to hear it!” Riki shuddered at the mental picture that flashed into his head at V’s words. “All that shit aside. Fidget what the hell was that crap you whispered as you tackled me in there?”
Riki watched as Fidget laughed as he scratched the back of his head.
“Yea, well… When I woke up Marcus called me by Keito’s name, and I didn’t see any reason to correct him. It’s not like were are going to stay here for very long so what’s the harm, right?”
Riki lifted a brow at Fidget’s comment. “Not staying here for very long?” he repeated. Looking at V, Riki saw that even the tall violet haired mongrel was thinking along the same lines of thought the way he shrugged uncaringly at what Fidget had done. Both of them thinking nothing of the deception. But by the way Jade looked to him in fear, he could see that the boy did know, just as he did, how fucking pissed Marcus and Aisha were going to be once they found out. And they would. It was just a matter of time of when they would.
The fact that Marcus and Aisha didn’t know could only mean that the strange connection the twins had with one another had worked. That Sky had somehow discovered what Fidget had done and played along.
“You seriously think that you won’t be here for long?” Riki asked, shaking his head at how little V and Fidget knew what was happening around them. It wasn’t really surprising that they didn’t know. Blondies- no, Elites in general were unknown to mongrels. Sure, they knew about them but they didn’t really know anything about them.
Riki could tell them, but he didn’t want them to panic, not until after they talked. He didn’t want them to start freaking out right now and get themselves in trouble by acting irrationally to the knowledge that there was no getting free now that a Blondie had them in their clutches. Fuck, you’d think that all they had to do was look at him and think of how long he’d been held prisoner in Eos, and they’d learn the truth by themselves or maybe its not that they didn’t know but were trying to ignore it so they didn’t have to face the cold, hard, truth.
After all, the truth fucking sucked.
“Meh, this place is a nice little vacation for us. Warm bed, good food, but after a while I’m gonna wanna stretch my wings and fly around,” V answered with a wink. “Don’t wanna over stay my welcome, you know?”
Telling the punks that they were fools wouldn’t accomplish anything, so Riki stayed silent. Oh, he planned on busting their bubble soon, because who knows how long it would be before he saw them again altogether, and alone too.
Alone… Riki looked through the glass, into the apartment and saw Iason just as he turned his face away to give his attention to the Blondies seated in front of him. Yea, he could only let his boys float around in their fantasy of freedom for only a few more minutes, if that. Knowing Iason the bastard would be bombarding him with questions the second everyone left.
“So, tell me V. Have you let that Blondie enter where no man has entered before?”
Riki’s eyes widened at that, and sure it wasn’t any of his business and they had more important things to discuss while they still had the luxury of privacy to talk, but this was too interesting to pass up. “V’s a virgin?” Riki snickered. “Wow, and I thought you said you’ve done it all?”
Riki’s grin grew wider when V squirmed uncomfortably under everyone’s gazes.
“I have done it all. I just haven’t actually done that yet…”
“Oh, this is fucking hilarious! So, Riki. Wanna start talking bets on how long before V gets his cherry popped?” Fidget crowed.
Riki covered his mouth with his fist to quiet his laughter at the expression of outraged that flashed on V’s face. He could only imagine the stress V was going through at the moment at trying to hold Orphe off from tapping his ass. By the love bites he could see on the mongrel’s neck he didn’t have to guess if the Blondie and his friend was getting it on, but to hear that Orphe was being manipulated into not scoring was information that he planned to use against the uptight Blondie.
How he knew Orphe was being manipulated was a given, because deals don’t work on Blondies. The only way V could have escaped being ‘attacked’ was by getting one up on the Elite. Riki wondered what exactly it was that V did to hold Orphe off. Out of curiosity only. He wasn’t stupid enough to think that kind of shit would work on Iason. He knew better.
“Fuck Violet-“
“Ho, Ho! Don’t be calling me by my real name, dude,” V whispered in warning to Riki. “I’m going under an alias. Call me Valen.”
“Your fucking kidding me, right?” So not just twins were going to get pain rained down on them, but Violet also once Orphe discovered his mongrel pet was lying to him. Shit, Iason really was going to have a lot to rip out of him once everyone left. Hell, it would surprise him if the fucking Blondie didn’t hear what Fidget said when he ran in. Dog like hearing, that’s what Iason had. Now it was just a question of if Iason would rat Fidget out.
Riki leaned back to look over V’s shoulder at Iason. Nah, if anything Iason would keep quiet about it. It wasn’t any fun if Marcus didn’t find out for himself, so hopefully Fidget was safe for now.
“So what the fuck are we all doing here? Not that I’m not happy to see you, and get out of that fucking apartment, but why the meeting between the high rollers?” V asked.
Riki was about to answer that he didn’t know when the glass doors opened and Katze stepped out. Out of the corner of his eye Riki saw the hopeful expression die slowly on Fidget’s face, knowing that the poor kid had been waiting for his twin to be the next one to greet them.
Another problem he had to worry about, Riki thought with an exhausted sigh. The boys hiding who they really were was going to come back to bite him on the ass, because he knew without a doubt that all those fucking Blondies were going to come right on over to bitch to Iason about how he hadn’t informed them about his gangs deception. But now he also had to worry about how they hell he was going to get the twins to meet up before one of them explodes.
“Katze, my man,” Riki greeted, deciding to put Fidget and Sky’s problem on the side for now, “What the fuck is up? What do you know about what’s going on in there, and that the hell is up with your hair?”
“I can say the same about you,” Katze replied back to him as he fished into his breast pocket, withdrawing a pack of cigarettes, and lighting one up.
Riki grunted as he tossed a long lock of his black hair over his shoulder.
“Shits about to hit the fan, that’s what,” Katze finally answered as he exhaled a thick cloud of smoke.
“Wanna elaborate on that?” Riki asked when it seemed as if that was all Katze was going to say. But with the way he saw Katze eyeing Fidget and Violet who were harassing one another, Riki knew that the red-head wasn’t going to open his mouth until he knew who exactly the new faces were. Suspicious bastard that he was.
“Hey. Hey!” Riki bellowed when V and Fidget started hitting one another. Fidget, who V had in a headlock, and V looked up at him. “Let go of him, V.” Riki rubbed his forehead, and with his other hand motioned to Katze. “This tall, pretty, bastard is Katze. Black Market boss and fellow,” Riki gave Katze a half smile, “mongrel.”
Fidget bit V on the arm to get him to release him.
“Biting, mother fucker!
Ignoring V, Fidget hopped up and gave the stoic mongrel a little bow. “Hi, my name is Vi- oops- Valen. I’m overpaid hooker with commitment issues. My hobbies are looking in the mirror to fluff my hair, and whoring myself out to every Tom, Dick and Harry that comes around. My interests include pick- pocketing chumps, and I’m the queen at opening any door, safe, or restraint, in the world.”
“Thank you, Fidget,” Riki said dryly, looking to V, waiting to see what his comeback would be.
“Good one, bitch,” said V, pushing Fidget back down on the bench.
“Thanks. I thought so too,” Fidget chirped.
V coughed in his hand, and straightened his shirt before saying, “Well, my name is Fid- I mean, my name is Sky. I’m a little bitch that drinks too much fucking coffee. I have separation issues, and a major brother complex that rivals any that you have every seen before. I’m a freak when it comes to finding escape routes, and I’m a fucking biter!”
“I don’t drink coffee!”
“With the way you fucking bounce off the walls, its either your dinking too much caffeine or your on fucking drugs!”
“I don’t drink coffee nor do I take drugs!”
“And I don’t have commitment issues!”
“ ‘Psh’ tell that to the Blondie you won’t give ‘it’ up to.”
“Are they always like this?” Katze asked Riki.
“Nah,” replies Riki. “Their worse.”
“Mmm…”
“So, now that the introductions have been made, why don’t you tell me what’s going on?” Riki drawled out, wanting to know more of why all the “high rollers” like V said, were all gathering together. He would ask Katze later why it looked like he jumped in the fountain of youth later, with his youthful looks. Those long locks, while not as long as his, and face were too suspiciously like his to be just a coincidence.
“Maybe later…”
“Why? Don’t you trust us?” V asked, Fidget nodding his agreement to his question. “Not that I-we trust you by any means. You know that we’re holding something back from you, just as we know that your hiding more than just ‘something’ from us.”
“Riki said you’re the Black Market boss, but I’ve seen you in Guardian, in the lower ‘hush, hush’ levels,” Fidget said, giving V a knowing look. “I would say that what we know about you should make us not want to trust you at all, but you can trust in the fact that we would take a blade to the gut for Riki. That we would never stab Riki in the back by betraying him, so what ever you might have to say won’t be repeated.”
Riki was a little impressed at the little speech Fidget yapped up, and also wondered what the hell the kid meant about the “hush, hush levels”. Maybe he and Katze would have a little talk about that when they were alone.
“You’ve been down in the lower levels?” Katze asked, narrowing his eyes.
“Yup, we saw some crazy shit and although we never seen your face, we recognized your name on a few papers that were lying around,” V said off handedly as he tired to block a jab from Fidget for his earlier remarks.
Katze ‘humft’ and took another drag from his cigarette. “I’m sure we’ll have a few things to talk about later. But right now what needs to be said is much more important. Iason is in a meeting with a few Blondies that you already know, and if you do not then I’m sure Riki can place names with the faces you do not recognize. Mikhale, Gideon and Aisha are not in attendance, but are listening and watching by V-cam.”
“What’s the commotion about?” Riki asked.
“Sir Gabriel has discovered that Niko is a mongrel and-“
“That’s right!” Fidget shouted. “I can’t believe that you didn’t tell me that Ni, Ni was here Riki!”
Riki furrowed his brows. “Ni, Ni?”
“Yea! Ni, Ni. You know him. He was a year younger than us in Guardian. He use to be part of our group,” Fidget explained.
“I know that all Furniture are mongrels, but I haven’t met anyone from our time in Guardian,” Riki said, trying hard to think back to his unhappy times in the Ceres child center.
“All Furniture are mongrels?” V questioned. “Is that why Orphe’s servant is that fucker Tate? And how the hell did you know that Furniture were mongrels Riki?”
Riki looked over to Katze. The man who told him the information when Iason have freed him for a year. “It was something I discovered a couple years ago.”
“Tate’s bunking up in the same place as you?” Fidget snickered. “That poor bastard. But that aside. I can’t believe you don’t remember Ni, Ni, Riki!”
Riki shrugged. “I don’t remember anyone looking like Niko in Guardian.” Hell, Riki couldn’t remember very much of anything or anyone in Guardian.
“Niko looks have changed since Guardian. I remembered him clearly because me and Sky spend the most time with him, but he use to be very chubby. Umm…” Fidget paused, trying to think of what Niko could have done that would jump start Riki’s memory. “Oh! There was this one time that he glued one of the security guards ass to the toilet for stealing his snack, and there was this one time that he blackmailed one of our ‘watchers’ for candy for a full month because he found out that-“
“Trickster!” Riki shouted in disbelief. “Holy shit! Niko is Trickster?” The little kid that use to play pranks on everyone. The fat little kid that got fed the most because he was able to sneak in and dig up info on all the pricks that were there to ‘help them grow’. The slim, handsome, little Furniture was nothing like he remembered him.
“Oh yea, that’s what you use to call him,” Fidget grinned.
“Sounds like him,” Katze said dryly. Not surprised to hear that Niko had a nickname like “Trickster” back in Guardian. “But as I was saying. Gabriel is in a very intimate relationship with Niko and his discover that the boy is a mongrel- that all Furniture are mongrels- and that has put power into his hands.”
Riki chuckled at that. “And what? He thinks he can use that information to threaten Iason? Fuckers got a death wish if he thinks Iason will back down with that shit.”
“Correct. But Sir Lazen isn’t using what he knows to threaten Iason. What his wants is Niko to be turned over to him completely, and with that in mind he plans of giving his full support over to Iason,” Katze reported.
“So your saying that Gabie just sold his soul to Iason for a mongrel?” Riki chuckled. “Why do I have a feeling that you’re the one that pushed Gabriel in that direction?” Riki asked. This was just like the time Gideon had came over to the apartment a couple days ago with Jade, asking for Iason’s help. It was all because of something Katze had said to the Blondie.
“Because I did,” Katze smiled. “Iason will need all the backing he needs, and having the full support of The Seven, and Sir Gabriel, will put more power into his hands.”
“Wait. I don’t get it….” Fidget complained.
“What don’t you get?” Katze patiently asked.
“Well, I’m not all that familiar with Riki’s Blondie, but I have heard his name being fearfully whispered in crowds from all the worlds we have traveled to,” Fidget said frowning. “What I don’t understand is as powerful as I’ve heard him to be, why would he need the backing of all these Elites?”
Riki rubbed the back of his neck. “From what I’ve heard so far, Jupiter hasn’t returned since she helped us escape Eos a over a month ago.” Riki held off Katze’s questions about his revaluation with a look that said that he’d explain later.
“Since her disappearance, her kids have been going ape shit and now some bitches think that it’s their shot at kicking Iason off the throne. The lowbie Elites can’t do shit. No one will follow a low ranking Elite, so that leaves the other Blondies that Iason doesn’t have by the balls.” Riki inched his head towards the Blondies inside the apartment.
“The Blondie that owns Trickster is Katze’s Elite. The one that is selling himself to Iason is the Blondie that is trying to get Tricks become his…pet?” Riki looked to Katze, who nodded to him that, that was what Gabriel was trying to do. “Orphe, Marcus, Gideon and Aisha are already going to stand behind Iason because of all of you.” Riki pointed to Jade, Fidget and V.
“With eight fucking Blondies at Iason’s beck and call, there’s no way that any of the other Blondies would dare to stand up against him. And with those kinda numbers behind him, the other lower ranking Elites will feel at ease and also regain any confidence they might have lost with Iason, and will continue to support him. Does that about cover it Katze?” Riki asked.
“Gabriel’s job will be to work in the background. Any rumors he hears that slanders Iason’s name, he’ll be whispering to them, turning their negativity away and towards someone else. He’ll also be on the hunt to locate where the rumor came from and report back to Iason once he has a name.” Katze looked tiredly at Riki. “It might not seem like it’s such a big deal, but if Gabriel were to speak out about his discovery concerning Furniture, it will go very bad for Iason. It might not even matter who is supporting him. They all might rally against him, and everyone else that have willingly chosen to take a mongrel for a pet.”
“Then what’s the problem?” V asked. “From what you’ve said so far, Niko has got this Blondie so hard up to get his hands on him that he’s willing to bow his head and suck it up to get him.”
Katze sighed, and dug into his jacket for his pack of cigarettes.
Riki plucked the cancer stick from Katze’s slim fingers, after he had lit it, and took a puff. “The problem that has Katze stressing, and about to start chain smoking, is because it seems to me that Raoul isn’t about to turn Trickster over to Gabie.”
“Seriously? I was under the impression, from what I’ve heard when I was highlighting as a employee here, and from what I’ve noticed and seen of Orphe’s attitude towards Tate, is that a Furniture isn’t anything. Their just… there…” V shrugged, not knowing how to really explain how Orphe treated Tate like he was there, but at the same time he was nothing but… well, furniture.
“This one is for you Katze,” Riki grinned. Even he had seen that Raoul never treated the boy like a normal Blondie would treat a Furniture, and admittedly he even respected the Blondie for seeing Niko, and acknowledging the boy as a person and not a thing.
“Raoul… has unknowingly taken Niko under his wing, so to speak. Gabriel and Raoul had an understanding between the two of them, that Niko would serve Gabriel for three months, but unfortunately it came to Raoul’s attention that Niko’s duties were not of the norm…”
“Caught um in bed together, didn’t he?” Fidget giggled.
“That he did…”
“Gives one a whole new meaning of serving breakfast in bed,” V laughed.
“Why, though?” Riki asked. “What’s the hurry in getting Iason all this support? And don’t tell me it’s because of what Gabriel found out. You sent Gideon here with Jade, so you can’t say you just threw all this shit together at the last minute.”
“….”
Riki stood and stepped up into Katze’s personal space, making him look him dead in the eyes. “What did you find out Katze?”
“… I haven’t told Iason any of this yet,” Katze answered. “I know that Iason will be wanting to know what we spoke of out here.”
“And all of us won’t say a word. Will we?” Riki said to his boys behind him. “So spill.”
“I found something a few days ago. Something that didn’t seem like anything- just random texts of data….and it might not mean anything, but just as a percussion I’ve set the stage for Iason to act if he needs to.”
Turning his head, Riki looked Fidget, V and Jade each in the eyes. Receiving their silent nods of understanding that they wouldn’t utter one word to anyone, not even each other when they were alone, of what they were about to hear. “Go on Katze,” Riki said softly.
“It’s my belief that Jupiter will start a war within Eos, and that she will use you as her way of achieving that goal… If that is true, then Iason will be her main target. She’ll have to remove him from his seat of power to accomplish that…”
“Wow…that sucks..” Fidget breathed.
“What you planning on doing Riki?” V and Jade asked together.
Riki took a drag from his stolen cigarette, smiling. “Fight, of course.”
Katze bowed his head a little, his shoulders relaxing, tension fading. “I was hoping that you would say that.”
“Now, all we gotta do is plan out a strategy that won’t conflict with Iason.” Riki pinned Fidget and V with a glare. “You fuckers also need to chill with antagonizing the Blondies you’re with, at least when you’re out in public. Since Jupiter left, Iason has taken full and complete power over all of Amoi. If Jupiter gains back control, I shit you not, the first thing that that bitch will do is level Ceres.”
“You can count on us,” V smoothly said, elbowing Fidget to get his attention, and stop playing with Jade’s hair. “We won’t cause any waves.”
“Really?” Riki said doubtfully. “Why do I feel like you little shits have already done something?”
“Us,” V gave Riki a hurt look. “I don’t know about Fidget, but I’ve been a good boy. Me and Orphe have some issues, but I haven’t done anything that would piss the dude off.”
“Then why is it that the first thing Orphe brought up was that they might have a serious problem with you and your ability to remove pet rings?” Katze commented.
“Okayy, so you can’t get pissed at me for that,” V charmingly said to Riki, with such a dazzling smile that one couldn’t help but forgive him of any slight he might have made against them. “Orphe snapped this pet bracelet on me- kick ass locking mechanism on that bad boy that begged me to test my skills on. Anyway, he left and it was my only shot at going to see Fidget’s punk ass.”
Even with V’s charms, and his strange way of getting anyone pissed at him to be his friend in moments, once he saw the embarrassed flush on V’s face, Riki decided to left his anger fade. It was clear that the violet haired mongrel had been more than just a little worried about Fidget, and Riki couldn’t blame him. Fidget’s knack of being a happy little bastard, which he always was, he could now see was just a front.
Riki could see the deep bruising under Fidget’s eyes, and, although not overly noticeable, the slight hollowness of the kid’s face. He never really saw how the twins got when they were separated when they were off Amoi, but Violet had told him quietly about the ‘difficulties’ the twins went through when they were apart, and Riki remembered vaguely of the times that Sky and Fidget were forced from one another’s company in Guardian.
“But you clearly got caught before you could come and see me?” Fidget smugly said. “Losing your touch, aren’t ya?”
“Me? Lose my touch? Fuck no, I just didn’t know that you fuckers had switched names, so when I found out that you were with a Blondie named Aisha, and went to see you, I end up finding Sky instead of you.” V flicked Fidget on the forehead with his index finger.
“You saw him!”
The group flinched at the shear volume of Fidget’s shout, and when Riki turned his head to look into the apartment, even with the thick glass and the distance they were from the door, he saw that all the Blondies had stopped and were now staring at them.
Riki gave Iason a salute, and in return his Blondie arched one fine pale brow in question. Those perfect lips of his Elite moved and Riki watched as all the Blondies nodded to what he said and they went back to talking.
“I’m thinking that our time has just been cut in half,” said Katze. “I would suggest that you update your friend quickly so that we can go back to our planning before we are called away.”
“V?” Fidget pleaded softly.
“Your bro is fine, Kid. He wanted me to let you know that he was healthy and whole, and that the both of you would be seeing each other real soon.” V shifted uncomfortably at the depth of emotion he saw swimming in his best friend’s storm gray eyes.
“Real soon is correct,” Katze added. “There will be a pet introduction in a few days. A party so that all the Elites can see- inspect, the new pets that The Seven have purchased seemingly all together. There have also been quite a few complaints that you,” Katze pointed to Riki, “have not been seen, and there have been no whispers that you have done anything crazy to warrant being in lock down in your apartment. Iason needs to parade you in front of everyone at the party.”
“They love to hate me, and they hate that they love me,” Riki snickered, shaking his head.
“You may not like it, but you are an important figure in Eos,” Katze admitted. “What you said is true too. They love you and they hate you, because they know that they need the fire that only you can bring.” Katze paused. “No… what you all will bring.”
Riki wondered what was going on in Katze brilliant brain, with the way he was staring so hard at Fidget and V. But whatever idea just hatched, he knew it was going to end up with him in bed with Iason, with his legs over the Blondie’s shoulders, and him begging for mercy. “What’s going on in that head of yours Katze?” Riki asked.
“Your arrival in Eos caused such a hurricane of emotions that everyone was affected….I’m thinking that if your gang were to pretend to be ‘normal’ pets would be a bad thing.” Katze lit up another cigarette. “There are many that disapprove of you Riki, and would love nothing more then to have you kicked out of Eos. Those are the ones that we need to protect Iason from, but there are a great deal of Elites that are entertained by your antics, and are the ones that have forced Orphe to set up this party so they can see you, and it is them that we want.”
“Okay, you’ve lost me,” V sighed. “What does these admirers of Riki have to do with us?”
Riki slowly grinned. Oh, Katze was one smart mother fucker. “What he’s saying is that those Elites, even though their upstanding, uptight, “I’m holier then thou” attitude, and that they pretend that they hate it when their perfect lives are disrupted, they actually love it. He’s saying that acting like good little pets we won’t win their unknowing affection.”
“That’s not to say that you can let it be known that you are mongrels,” Katze interrupted.
Riki nodded. “Right, that would fuck up what we are trying to accomplish, and I’m not saying to put on a fucking show for those dicks, but by being yourselves will be enough to gain their attention.”
Fidget laughed evilly, clapping his hands. “Oh, this is going to be fun!”
Riki gathered everyone together, and with Katze whispered what they were going to do at the party that was coming fast on their heels. Figuring out how they were going to relay the same information to Sky, and agreeing that V would be the one to accomplish this since Katze would be busy with Raoul and Iason. Jade still couldn’t talk, and Fidget didn’t have the means of leaving his Blondie’s apartment. V had the skills to escape his pet ring and if not him then he had Tate to get him out of the apartment should he need him to.
The feeling of usefulness filled Riki as the looked around his group of friends. He still needed to talk to V and Fidget about their misunderstanding that they were only on ‘vacation’ in Eos, but for right now it looked like they had something to keep their minds off the fact that they weren’t going anywhere…and if their Blondies were anything like how Iason was with him, they weren’t going to be going anywhere…ever.
oOoOoOo
With the sun to his back, Sir Jerico Ervic eyed the man across from him. Normally after he escorted a visitor with deep pockets, and high standing with another world, he would have them dropped off at the nearest pleasure house in Midas’s red district and that would be the last he would see of them, but this man… Jerico didn’t know what it was about him that drew his interest.
Jonathan Tomlinson or ‘Kirin’ as the man had asked him to address him as, was not just any man he had discovered, but a criminal. But what interested Jerico was what his sources learned for him. The man had an almost hundred percent rating of obtaining what he wanted, no matter what or who had it.
That was a skill that Jerico wanted. He had forced himself to spend time with the lowly human with the sole purpose of learning how he can take Jade back. The few times that he had physically joined with the lovely boy had been an experience that he had taken for granted, never dreaming that his pet would be stolen from him, and so he never fully indulged himself in the pleasures of his flesh. Thinking that he had all the time in the world to do so.
But in the two days that he had invited Kirin out, he had yet to learn anything useful from him. Nothing that would show him a way to get Jade away from the high ranking Blondie without losing his position. Jerico also had the nagging feeling that the man was playing with him, as he was with him. The both of them wanting something from the other but not about to show their hand first.
Jerico smiled, his lips curving up just a tad with humor. If the man thought that it would be he that caved first, he was sadly mistaken. He would be getting Jade back, one way of the other, and he could do it without the knowledge of the man if he had to, but he had a feeling that what Kirin wanted only he could help him achieve it. He had the upper hand in this little game of theirs, and they both knew it.
“Lord Ervic-“
“Sir, not lord-“ Jerico corrected. “if any were to be given a title of nobility, it would be his Excellency, Sir Iason Mink.”
“Ahh, yes… I’ve heard of your great leader, Sir Mink. I heard that unlike the rest of your kind, who keep manufactured humans as pets- a most wondrous idea, by the way- your leader has taken a most unconventional boy as his play thing. A mongrel that I hear are the most disgusting of creatures.”
Jerico narrowed his eyes at Kirin’s sneaky tones. “Yes, Riki is the boy’s name.” Jerico said nothing more then that, and the only reason he even gave Kirin, Riki’s name was because he had a feeling that the man already knew it.
“Mmm…I also hear that the ‘shelf life’ of a pet depends on the age of when the male or female was purchased.”
Jerico nodded elegantly. “The youngest we Elites would buy a pet is when they are nine years of age. Some of us are entertained by just having a pet accompany us to junctions, not looking to having them interact with performances, but once a pet reaches thirteen we will begin interacting them with others. The cut off age is fifteen.”
“Fifteen? So when at what age would one consider to be too old to be a pet?”
“Seventeen,” Jerico answered. “That is why we normally obtain pets when they are younger, just in case we wish to keep them longer.” The questions he was answering was not a secret, and once again he could see that it was not something that Kirin did not already know, but he still played along. He could see that the human was ‘testing the waters’ so to speak, waiting and watching to see how he would react to all of his probing.
“I’ve heard that his Excellency’s pet, Riki, is nearing twenty-two. Quite old isn’t he? To your standards of being a pet, that is. And that Riki is the only pet, besides being what you all call a mongrel, that has been in Eos for over seven years. When exactly will your leader retire him?”
“You’ve heard a great deal in the short time you’ve been on Amoi,” Jerico noted in an almost disproving tone. “Where did you hear these rumors from again?”
“I didn’t,” Kirin replied to him with an innocent smile. “I actually don’t know who was speaking about this topic or where I was at the time.”
Jerico didn’t like where the man was going with his questions. It was one thing to be curious about Riki, everyone was curious about the lovely, wild black haired mongrel, but it was completely different when a person was personally interested in Riki. His supreme leader was not an Elite that anyone wanted to anger. With the history of Riki in his memories, he knew that no matter what the mongrel did, no matter what scandalous or embarrassing things that would reflect badly on an Elite that he has done in the past, that any normal pet would have been sent to be ‘recycled’, Iason would never get rid of Riki. All Elites knew this.
“Riki,” Jerico said cautiously, “is an exception to the rules. Because he is not an academy bred pet, our laws regarding pets do not apply to him.” The ease at which he had been acting was now gone. Jerico was at full alert now with how he acted towards Kirin.
“So, you are saying that his Excellency has no plans in the future of ever retiring Riki?”
“What his Excellency’s plans are, are unknown to anyone,” Jerico warned. He had plans for Kirin and he didn’t want the stupid human getting himself killed before his usefulness to him was no longer needed. “I would suggest that for your safety you stop with your inquires.” On the outside Jerico was nothing but a picture of calmness, but on the inside it took a tremendous amount of control to not stand up and walk away from Kirin, washing his hands of the man and hunting for another way of getting what he wanted. He still needed him, and that’s the only reason why he was still sitting down.
“I’m afraid I’m pass the frame of mind to stop. I want what I want, and I know that there is something that you want from me too. It is the only reason why you have put up with someone you would consider beneath you as long as you have, isn’t it?”
Jerico stared at Kirin, his exceptional mind taking only seconds to weigh the pros and cons of continuing this relationship with the man. There was many things he needed to know from the man, such as how someone like him, from a world clear across the galaxy, would suddenly for the first time visit Amoi and immediately take an interest to Riki, a mongrel that he never before laid eyes upon.
Decision made Jerico lifted his glass of sweetened, chilled, tea and took a sip. The penalties that he would suffer if he allied himself with Kirin were vast, but he was positive that he could accomplish his goals before Kirin could his. Once he got what he wanted, the man would be on his own.
“Tell me Kirin,” Jerico asked with a friendly smile, it was also the first time he had ever addressed the human by that name. “Have you ever killed anyone without getting your hands dirty?”
