A/N: Thanks for the reviews, guys. I’m glad everyone seems to be enjoying my story so far. I hope you’re ready for a long one because I plan on writing this one for a while. We’re on chapter 5 and I still haven’t made any mention of what the bad guys are even planning! I think I’ll keep the chapters around 10k words or less since it seems like any longer will bore people. Anyway, let’s get this show on the road! Today you might learn what’s going on. (Nope)
Italics means a character is thinking to his/her self.
[Text in box] is when a Pokemon is speaking to their trainer.
Bold means a Pokemon is speaking telepathically.

Auren felt lighter than he had in years. He had a goal again, and a real reason to fight. He had a great friend beside him, and he had left behind the weight he’d carried for so many years. He wasn’t sure what the future held, or if he could survive facing the enemies he had made but none of that mattered. He was going to live in the moment, take chances, make friends, and maybe even fall in love. The thought caused his mind to go off on a tangent, and it brought up the feelings that his Electivire had caused only moments ago. One of his hands came up to touch his lips before he even realized what he was doing.
“Whoa, you seem different.” Alandra said, pulling him from his thoughts. Auren hadn’t even noticed that he had made it back already. “Judging by the lightened mood, I assume you took care of whatever it was you needed to take care of?” Auren nodded. Years of hate and pain were washing away even as they spoke.
“You look like you’re ready to take on the world, kid.” Frank said as he uncrossed his legs and got to his feet. “I like it. Makes me wanna fight!” Frank flexed his impressive muscles in a few poses that caused Alandra to slap her hand to her face.
“Can we please go now?” She asked, both to get them moving and to stop Frank from being a show off.
“We’re ready when you are.” Auren said, indicating that he and Tonitrus were ready to start their journey. “You guys want to speed it up a bit, though? A light jog or something would be better than the slow pace we were traveling at before.” He looked to Frank, who practically beamed at the idea. Alandra didn’t look nearly as excited, however.
“Oh great. I know how Frank is, but I wasn’t expecting you to be a fitness professional as well. I’m not saying I’m out of shape, but a long distance run like this will wear me out.” She said, not liking the idea of wearing herself out early in the journey.
“Why don’t you have Mercury carry you on his back?” Auren suggested. “I hear Blaziken have very powerful legs and I imagine he can run pretty fast.” Auren’s suggestion wasn‘t too ridiculous. He had no idea that she‘d been transported around on his back plenty of times before. Mercury was already out of his ball, and he nodded his agreement. Then Frank let out his Machamp as well.
“We’re going to do some running! Get ready to go, Jug.” The Superpower Pokemon beat its chest to show it was ready for anything, and Auren noticed something odd.
“Wait, your Machamp is a male isn’t it?” He asked while cocking an eyebrow at Frank.
“That’s right! Why do you ask?” Frank said as he slapped the Machamp on the ass. Alandra was stifling a giggle, and Auren was confused.
“I thought you said you were all in love with your Pokemon.” Auren stated. The moment he said that everything clicked into place. “Wait a minute. You’re gay?”
“Of course I am! Couldn’t you tell? Do you have a problem with that?” Frank said, taking a bit of offense to the way Auren was acting so surprised.
“No, I just didn’t think about it until now. I have nothing against it. I think you two make a very cute couple.” Auren said. He hoped the seemingly volatile man wouldn’t blow his top.
“Oh. Well thank you, sweetheart.” Frank said sincerely, blushing a little. Auren tried his best to hold in a laugh, but once he heard Alandra lose it and begin laughing he couldn’t hold it in either. “What? What’s so funny?!” Frank almost shouted.
“Nothing, Frank. You’re just so cute when you blush.” Alandra said to diffuse the situation.
“I see. Well, enough of this chit chat! Let’s get on the road!” Frank said. He was clearly geared up for a run.
“Alright, I’m fine with doing it this way,” Alandra started, “but we’re stopping in towns to rest and eat. I’m not too comfortable in a piggy back position for long periods of time; we have to stop and walk if I start to get sore or if my legs go numb. Understand?” Frank was barely listening; he was too caught up in his stretches to worry much about what she was telling him. She looked at Auren who was also stretching, and hoped that he would at least have the sense to understand.
“That’s fine.” He said before he dropped his upper body down to let his elbows rest on the ground while his feet were still flat to show his flexibility. Tonitrus wasn’t stretching, and Auren knew that she was letting electricity run through her instead. It seemed like that was her way of warming up her muscles.
“Alright,” Frank shouted, “We’re gonna run around Sandgem! I can’t see any reason to stop there. We’ll head north on Route 202 until we can see Jubilife City. That’s where we’ll stop and take a break. Until then, I don’t want to hear any whining! Got it!?” He looked at Alandra, who rolled her eyes. Then he turned to Auren, who nodded his agreement. Frank had expected the boy to look annoyed with the plan, and was surprised to see him accept it like it was no big deal. “We only have a couple of hours of daylight left, so we should be able to arrive shortly after nightfall at a normal pace.”
“Sounds like a plan to me. I’m not too worried about it, but if you want to we can stop in Jubilife for the night and get a room.” Auren said, looking at Alandra. She thought it was nice that he would consider how she’d feel, but thought it funny that he didn’t offer the same thing to Frank.
“Thanks, we’ll see about it when we get there. Why would you make me that offer, and not Frank though? Is it because I’m a girl?” She said with a bit of an edge to her voice.
“Not at all,” Auren said, shrugging it off. “I can just tell that he’d run until his heart literally exploded, so I’m not worried about him.”
“Damn right. And that could take a very long time, don’t you doubt.” Frank said as he chuckled a bit at Auren’s comment. “Now, if you girls are done prancing about I think it’s time to go!” As he said this Frank took off, with his Machamp right behind him.
“You know, that seems more like a sprint to me. Oh well, if that’s how he wants it I can‘t argue. Let’s go, Tonitrus!” Auren called out before breaking into a quick jog himself in an attempt to run Frank down.
“Boys.” Was all Alandra said as Mercury helped her onto his back. When he was sure she had a good grip he too took off.
[Shall I run them down?] He sent playfully though the bond. Mercury knew he could outrun a couple of humans any day.
“Nah, let them have their little competition. We’ll save our energy by bringing up the rear. We’re not some kids.” She said, trying to be mature. She couldn’t resist adding to her orders, “but once they get a little further ahead, you’re free to do what you want.” A devious smile appeared on the face of trainer and Pokemon alike.
There was no such planning or dignity between the other two trainers. Frank and Auren were both giving it their all in an unspoken race. Frank had jumped to a quick lead, but Auren was holding steady a short distance back. He wasn’t sure he could run all the way to Jubilife but he was going to try. Frank had shown him up in their first meeting by beating Auren in a fight, even though Auren was distracted at the time. He wasn’t about to let Frank beat him a second time.
The Machamp, Jug, dropped back a bit to come up beside Tonitrus. He shot a look that screamed ‘let’s see who is faster’ her way but she wasn’t about to rise to the taunt. Unlike her trainer and the other males she wasn’t worried about pride. She knew she was the strongest one there anyway.
It didn’t take long for the running party to get within visual range of Sandgem Town. They didn’t go through the town; they skirted the outer limits instead. Auren was beginning to sweat, but was still breathing rather normally. He had closed the gap and was now within a few feet of Frank, who didn’t seem tired at all. Auren shook his head, thinking that the man had to be part Doduo or something. He looked over to see Jug running off to the left of his trainer and would have chuckled had he not been running. The four armed Pokemon looked incredibly silly to him as it swung all four arms while it ran. Then he noticed something important.
“Hey, I think we lost Alandra.” Auren called out to his fellow runner. He had completely forgotten about the redhead and her Blaziken; he had gotten totally caught up in his competition with Frank.
“Don’t worry about it. She’ll be fine.” Frank answered. Then he sped up to prove he wasn’t worried about the missing member of the group. Auren matched his pace once again and began to think they might make it to Jubilife before nightfall after all. The sun was beginning to set, but at their current pace it would only take another forty-five minutes to get within city limits.
Less than a mile into Route 202, Auren caught sight of a younger trainer who was walking the path with his Pokemon. The trainer was a fair distance away, but Auren could see that he had a Chimchar. He had to be a new trainer who was just starting his adventure into the Pokemon league. Right before Auren looked away he locked eyes with the trainer.
“Hey, wanna battle?” The kid called, barely audible because of the distance. Auren smirked a bit but never stopped. He could tell the kid was surprised to see other people, especially other people who were running for who knows what reason. Auren’s face became serious as he thought about the new trainer, and his new goal. He would find out what danger Darkrai and the church posed to the region. New trainers faced enough danger without religious nut jobs planning their demise. Further steeling his resolve Auren continued to run on.
Eventually the running group spotted the lights of Jubilife city. Night was creeping in with the sun over the horizon, and the Kricketot were playing their song. Auren was breathing more heavily now, and he was glad to see Frank was in the same condition. They were both in great shape, but holding such a pace for so long was taking its toll.
“Race to the finish?” Frank asked suddenly.
“You’re on. Whoever comes in second has to pay for the winner’s,” he paused for a moment and looked at Tonitrus, “and their Pokemon’s dinner.” Frank flashed a large smile.
“Go.” Frank said before cranking it up to full speed. Auren hesitated for only a couple of seconds before he too was at full speed. With the city gates coming into site it was neck and neck. Neither could pull ahead of the other, and neither would relent. Auren was sure they were going to tie, and neither would concede defeat if that was the case. An instant before they crossed through the gate Frank slowed considerably. Auren crossed into the city first by a few body lengths. Both runners stopped to catch their breaths; they inhaled sharply though their noses and exhaled evenly through their mouths. After a moment Auren finally spoke up.
“As we agreed, second place has to buy the winner and his Pokemon dinner right?” Auren said, smirking triumphantly. Frank had a rather large smile on his face as he nodded.
“Of course. Although, you may need to fix the ‘his’ Pokemon to ‘her’ Pokemon.” Frank replied. The smirk on Auren’s face faded to be replaced by a look of confusion.
“Oh, so you’ll be buying Mercury and me dinner Mr. Cole?” A now familiar female voice spoke from behind Auren. He turned to see Alandra and Mercury sitting on a bench looking no worse for wear.
“I…we…but…” Auren tried to speak but couldn’t get anything out. “You’re a bastard.” He said looking at Frank, who just laughed.
“How do you think she got to you first when you met? That Blaziken is one fast runner, let me tell you.” Frank replied, still smiling.
“Fine, fine, I guess a bet’s a bet.” Auren said, conceding defeat before changing subjects. “I don’t know about you guys but I think I’d rather stay here for the night and head for Oreburgh in the morning. With Darkrai haunting my dreams every night I haven’t gotten much rest.”
“I’m alright with that.” Alandra agreed. “I haven’t slept much lately either, none of us have. We’ve been too busy keeping constant surveillance on you. A night of rest would be nice. We’ll probably need it knowing how rough Mt. Coronet can be.” She looked to Frank, who shrugged his shoulders.
“I don’t mind. We’re probably way ahead of the others by now anyway. We’ve made pretty good progress, and a rested party is always more efficient than a tired one.” Frank said as he nodded sagely.
“So you’re admitting you’re tired, macho man?” Alandra said jokingly, causing Frank to snap his eyes open and sputter. “Relax, you know I’m playing. So, would you like to find somewhere to eat first? Or would you rather find somewhere to stay?” She asked, looking at Auren.
“Let’s find a hotel.” Auren responded immediately. “We can leave our stuff in the room before we eat. It has been a while since I was in Jubilife, but I remember a few good places to eat. Do you two have any preferences as far as food goes?”
“Whatever is the most expensive since I have a gentleman paying for my date and me.” Alandra answered, casting a joking look Auren’s way. He stared at her in a deadpan manner before shrugging and shaking his head. “It’s my pleasure, madam.”
----------------------------------
A few hours later the group was leaving Le Meurice, one of the most exquisite restaurants in the Sinnoh region. They were all quite full from their meals, and Auren’s wallet was considerably lighter than before.
“That was delicious. Thanks for volunteering to pay for our meal, Auren.” Alandra said jokingly.
“Yeah yeah, keep rubbing it in.” Auren said solemnly. The bill had been astronomical, but Auren didn’t mind. Even though he was facing something huge and dangerous, Auren was happy. He had found the ability to speak to his closest friend, and he was quickly growing to like Frank and Alandra. He never thought he’d find friends…he never even thought he’d truly smile again. The smile on his face was proof that he had been incorrect.
“I don’t know about you two, but I’m ready to get some rest.” Alandra said before leaning back into her Blaziken, having him hold her weight up.
“Sure, rest!” Frank put in. “I bet that’s the first thing you’ll be doing once you get back to your room. I can tell that you’re just itching to…”
“Shut up, Frank!” She said, clearly embarrassed.
“Doesn’t seem like he is too far off judging by your reaction.” Auren said, glad to finally be able to taunt her for a change.
“Alright fine, so I’m going to fuck Mercury senseless! Is that what you want to hear?” She proclaimed a little too loudly. Auren was caught off guard at her statement; he didn’t expect her to admit it in such a vulgar way.
“Shhh, not so loud girly. We don’t know who might be listening. Even if you used his name someone might get suspicious. Remember what Mesprit said about drawing attention to ourselves.” Frank scolded her. Alandra’s blush deepened as she realized he was right.
“Sorry about that.” Alandra said, her face now blood red. Auren held back a laugh before a strange thought occurred to him. He looked to Alandra as they walked towards their hotel.
“Wait a minute. I didn’t notice it at the time, but you guys seemed very at ease when you met Mesprit. She’s a legendary Pokemon and most people would be surprised to meet her. You were definitely surprised when Darkrai made an appearance, but Mesprit didn’t shake you up at all.” They were in sight of the hotel now.
“That’s…well, I’ll explain that later. I promise.” Alandra said. “I’ll tell you all about it once we get back to our base. You seem to have a story with the Emotion Pokemon as well. What’s that about?” She asked.
“I don’t really want to talk about it right now.” Auren said coldly, trying to dismiss the conversation with a sense of finality.
“Whoa, seems like a bit of a sore topic.” Alandra said, getting no response. She looked at Tonitrus, who seemed to mirror her trainers now stony expression.
“Let’s just get to our rooms and get some rest for tomorrow.” Auren said. Alandra could tell he wasn’t in the mood for further questioning. The group all checked into their rooms without problem.
Auren and Tonitrus were both sitting on their respective beds, and both were relaxed. Auren felt kind of bad for acting so cold when he was asked about Mesprit. Even though he had come to terms with his past he wasn’t used to other people asking about it. Before he could think too much about it he heard a knock at his door. He quickly got up and moved to the door and took a look through the peep hole. He saw Alandra on the other side, and he opened the door for her. She was standing there in her pajamas, and she looked mildly nervous.
“I’m sorry if I asked something I shouldn’t, I didn’t mean…” Auren cut her off by holding up a hand.
“No, it’s fine. I should be the one apologizing to you. You couldn’t know that I’d bristle up like that. It’s just…well…it’s a long story. One I’ve never told another person. I’ve never trusted anyone other than myself and Tonitrus. It’s very strange to talk to other people after I haven’t had any real interaction for so long.” He told her, his voice much softer than before. “Look…I don’t know much about you people yet, but I just feel like I can trust you. If you want to come in then I’ll tell you about when I met Mesprit.” She looked surprised, as if she hadn’t expected to be invited it.
“Oh, um…well…alright.” She nodded and stepped past him into the room. He closed the door behind her and walked over to take his seat on the end of the bed. She sat down in the office chair the room provided.
[I know what you’re thinking. I trust this woman, she seems…genuine. I’m here for you if you need me.] Tonitrus placed her hand on his shoulder and sat on the bed beside him. Auren took a deep breath and began his story.
“Eleven years ago I was given my first Pokemon. Well, more accurately I was given a Pokemon egg. Tonitrus was the Pokemon in that egg. She and I became quick friends, and we grew close.” Alandra sat and listened as Auren recounted the tale of his youth. He recounted his father’s death, his home being destroyed, and the near death he watched Tonitrus suffer. He explained that the attack had been the cause of Tonitrus’ muteness.
“I woke up the day after the attack, and it only took me a few days to recover for the most part. My ribs obviously didn’t heal as quickly as the cuts and scars, but I was able to move around. After a week Tonitrus still hadn’t woken up. One day I got stir crazy; being in that hospital was too boring. So without even telling the nurse I took a trip to Lake Verity. That’s when it all really caught up to me. Dad’s death hit me hard, and I cried a lot while I sat beside the lake. I wasn’t sure if my best friend was ever going to wake up again. I was sure I had lost everything.” Auren said, his voice barely audible.
“And that’s when Mesprit showed up?” Alandra added as Auren paused. He nodded.
“Yeah. As I was sitting there I made all those promises about bringing justice to wrongdoers and protecting Tonitrus. I practically shouted most of it.” He said, a slight smile coming to his face. “Then she showed up.”
-----------------------------------------
“So you want to protect your friend as well as innocent people?” The boy heard a soft, female voice speak behind him. He turned quickly to see a small, purple and blue Pokemon floating behind him. “That’s a good goal to have, young human!” She said cheerfully. The boy had no idea what to do. A Pokemon had never spoken to him before, and it caused him to panic. He backed away too quickly and fell into the water, soaking his bandages.
“What are you! What do you want from me!” The young boy yelled, distress evident in his voice.
“Calm down human. I will not harm you. I just with to speak with you! I don’t meet many humans, but they are usually out for their own goals. I can see your inner light, and it burns brightly.” The Pokemon said as it landed in front of him. Auren stood, and while he still seemed hesitant he was visibly calmer. He got out of the water and stood in front of the tiny Pokemon.
“What do you mean?” The boy asked, confused over what the Pokemon was telling him. It giggled slightly before it smiled.
“Don’t worry too much about it! To answer an earlier question, my name is Mesprit!” She practically sang her name. The boy’s eyes widened at the revelation.
“Mesprit, as in THE Mesprit? Of the legendary Lake Trio?” The boy asked, clearly shocked. He had read plenty of stories about Sinnoh’s legends in the academy. He couldn’t believe they were actually real even though he was face to face with one.
“Yep, that’s me!” The Emotion Pokemon chimed out happily. “You look like you don’t believe me! You know, there is a lot of truth to the legends you humans keep in you books!” She said, reflecting the boy’s thoughts.
After a short conversation the boy ended up telling the Psychic type about the recent events and the tragedy that befallen him. “I don‘t know what to do from here.” He admitted.
“Follow your heart that’s what! You have to move on if you want to grow! Oh, and I know you’re worrying about your friend. Well, she’ll be awake by the time you return!” The boy’s eyes got wide, and he was about to run back to the hospital to see Tonitrus. “Woah, hold it there! You’re injured! Take it slow. It’ll still be a while before she wakes up, anyway.”
“How can you know that?” The boy asked, confused over what was going on.
“That’s my little secret!” She said, floating back into the air. “Look, I like you human. You are a rare breed for your kind. If you’re ever in terrible danger you can retreat here and I’ll protect you! Got it?” The boy nodded, wanting to get back to his Pokemon. “By the way! What was your name, human?”
“I’m Auren Cole.” He said, extending his hand to the Pokemon. She floated over and placed one of her tails in his hand and grinned as he confusedly shook it. “Thank you for the offer.” Mesprit watched as Auren quickly walked back up the path towards town. Once there he would find his Elekid awake. He would find he could no longer hear her voice.
--------------------------------------
Alandra hadn’t said a word while Auren recounted the tale of his past and his meeting with the legendary Mesprit. She wasn’t sure when tears had filled her eyes or when they had managed to roll down her ckeeks. She sniffled a bit, and the noise caught Auren’s attention. He looked at her for a moment, then a smile came to his face.
“Thank you for listening. You have no idea how good it feels to finally tell someone that story. You don’t have to cry though, geez.” He said. He held back a few tears of his own.
“Shutup, you jerk.” She said, still sniffling. “It’s not my fault that you decided to tell me such a sad story.” She took a deep breath and calmed herself down. “I’m glad you decided to tell me that, though. I know it can’t be easy for you to talk about it. It definitely sheds a bit more light on why you’re so closed up. Was that meeting the reason you teleported us to Lake Verity when Darkrai showed up?”
“Yeah. Abra and I planned to teleport there in case of an emergency a few years ago once we realized he could make such an incredible leap. It required a huge amount of training on his part to be able to teleport so far. I wasn’t sure that he would be able to move all of us that far.” Auren confirmed.
“Would it be alright if I thanked him?” She asked. She hadn’t really considered how much energy the tiny Psi Pokemon had used to save all of them.
“I can’t guarantee you that he’s awake, and he’s a pretty deep sleeper. I suppose it couldn’t hurt to check, though.” Auren said as he reached for the Abra’s Pokeball. He hit the release button, and the Abra appeared on the bed in a flash of light.
“Abra.” He said lazily from his sitting position. Before he could react Alandra was quickly upon him. She hugged the small Pokemon tightly to her chest.
“Thank you for saving me and all of my friends.” She said genuinely.
“It was Auren’s plan. I was just following his orders.” The Psychic type spoke directly into her mind. She was surprised for a moment, then she remember Psychic Pokemon had the natural ability to speak to humans.
“Still, it was a tremendous feat that you pulled off. I didn’t know a Pokemon could teleport so far.” She said, not letting the modest Abra shrug off the compliment.
“I could have gone farther.” His voice traveled through her mind, and it had a hint of pride to it. “Having to move so many was…difficult. I used up nearly all of my power reserves. Even speaking to you right now is a mild strain.”
“Oh! Well you should rest then. I didn’t mean to disturb your recovery!” Alandra said, worried that she convinced Auren to release Abra when he shouldn’t have.
“It’s fine. I wished to speak to Auren anyway.” She felt his connection to her mind disappear, and she figured he had probably moved to Auren’s mind. “The storm in your mind has calmed a great deal. I imagine the mighty Mesprit had a hand in that?” He asked Auren directly.
“Yeah, Mesprit helped. Alandra played a large role as well, though.” He said nodding in her direction. She felt the connection to Abra reestablish itself in her mind.
“It seems I should be thanking you. Auren has never had a very calm mind. If you were key to calming the storm that raged inside him, then you have my gratitude.” The connection once again disappeared as the Abra left her mind. “I also sense that a connection has been established between you and Tonitrus…a trainer bond.” The Abra directed his thoughts to Auren.
“Again, thanks go to Mesprit and Alandra. I’m able to communicate with Tonitrus now like I am with you.” He responded.
“No, the connection you have formed with her is completely different. I can communicate with you thanks to my natural psychic talents. You and Tonitrus can speak through something that is far deeper. Never discount how important the bond you’ve formed is.” The Abra intoned wisely.
“I’ll keep that in mind. You can stay out and sleep on a bed if you want.” Auren offered.
“No, I’ll be fine in my ball. I’ll think of some way you can reward me later. For now I would just like to rest.” The small Pokmeon accented his point with a cute, high pitched yawn.
“Alright, I’ll put you back in your ball for now. I’ll let you out in a couple of days to see if you’ve recovered more of your strength.” Auren said as he picked the Abra’s ball up again.
“Wait!” Alandra said before Auren could click the button. “Do you have a name?”
“Bora.” The Abra sent into her mind. “It means energetic.” His psychic voice sounded amused by the irony of his own name. He looked back to Auren, then he disappeared back into his ball.
“He seems like an interesting little fellow.” Alandra said before she got out of her chair and stretched, then let out a yawn of her own. “I have so many questions to ask about him, but I think we should both probably get to bed. I didn’t really expect to spend so much time talking to you, but I’m glad I did. Now I’m going to get back to my earlier plans.” She said as she opened the door to leave. “I’m gonna go fuck Mercury’s brains out!” She closed the door as she finished her sentence.
“She sure is open about her relationship.” Auren said. He wasn’t as caught off guard as he had been earlier, but he still wasn’t used to someone being open about their relationship in general. Especially a relationship with a Pokemon.
[I think she only does it because she thinks it embarrasses you. By the way your face has changed to a light shade of red I’d say she is right.] Tonitrus responded with a knowing smile on her face. He turned and pointed at her and tried to think of something clever to say. After nothing came he sighed and threw himself backwards onto the bed.
“I swear, you two are working together to make me feel awkward. Between her openness about her relationship and you kissing me…I’m not sure how to feel about anything anymore.” He said. Tonitrus didn’t think he’d say anything about her earlier compulsive kiss. “Speaking of, we should probably talk about that don’t you think?”
[What is there to talk about?] She said nervously. She wasn’t expecting him to say anything, and now he wanted to have a conversation? She was sure it wouldn’t be a pleasant subject.
“Well…I guess I have to ask what it meant to you. Did you kiss me because you were just so happy and it was spur of the moment? Or was it something more? We need to clear the air here, that’s all I’m trying to say. I learned that I shouldn’t bury feelings today, it only causes problems in the long run. So tell me what happened back in Twinleaf, Tonitrus.” Auren wasn’t sure what his Pokemon was going to tell him, and he wasn’t sure how he would react to her answer.
[I don’t…I don’t want you to hate me, Auren.] She sent through the link, and she sounded very nervous. It amused him that such a powerful creature could be so unnerved over such a simple subject. She stared at the floor, wrung her hands together, and she looked like she was about to cry. Auren couldn’t help but laugh a bit. She looked up, wondering why he was laughing.
“Sorry, just seeing you all nervous over nothing is kind of funny.” He said, and he watched her face go from nervous to angry. He stood, moved to her bed, and sat beside her. He pulled her into a hug and spoke in a low tone, trying to sooth her. “Nothing you could do would ever make me hate you, Tonitrus.” Her reaction was what he expected, her whole body began to hum with electric current. Some of the tension he knew she was holding in dispersed as she relaxed in his hold.
[It’s not ‘nothing‘, Auren. I know we’ve been together for a long time, but I don’t know if you’d want me as a partner anymore if I told you the truth.] She told him. She was on the edge of tears. [It’s just so hard to be around you sometimes.] Auren tensed as the thought came through the bond. Panic began to edge its way into his heart at the thought of her leaving.
“Why? What did I do? I’m sorry if I’ve done something wrong but I’m sure I can fix whatever it is.” He said worriedly. She was shaking her head as he spoke, causing him to fret even more.
[It’s not something that you do, or something that you can help. Auren I’m…I’m in love with you.] She practically whispered through the bond. She tensed up and waited for the obvious shock on Auren’s face to wear off and for everything to come crashing down.
“What?” It took all of his focus to get the word out. She was in love with him?
[I’m in love with you!] She sent, much louder this time. She had already told the truth, there was no point in holding back now. [I’ve been in love with you for years, Auren. When I evolved into an Electabuzz my feelings for you changed from fondness to infatuation. Those feelings grew over time, and when I evolved into an Electivire they became full blown love. I never thought I’d get to speak to you, so I wasn’t worried about the truth getting out. Now I’m not sure if this bond is a gift or a curse. We’ve only been able to communicate for a day and I’ve already screwed it up.]
“So…the kiss earlier?” Auren asked, trying to confirm what she was telling him.
[It was on an impulse because I was so happy, but I’ve wanted to do that for so long. Seeing you smile, having you hug me…I couldn’t resist my feelings at that moment.] She turned and locked eyes with Auren and was unable to read his expression. [Please, can we forget that it ever happened? I don’t want you to hate me and I don’t want you to release me, I can keep my feelings from getting in the way I promise.] She was talking though the bond very quickly now, and Auren wasn’t sure how to calm her down. His heart knew exactly how to respond though.
While Tonitrus was still spewing apologies Auren put his hand under her chin and pulled her into a kiss. He didn’t pull away immediately, instead he lingered and enjoyed the feeling of her lips against his. Her eyes went wide for a moment before they closed, and she leaned into the kiss. To her it felt like it lasted forever, even though only a few seconds actually passed before he pulled away. He sat his forehead against the black dot in the center of her own. They locked eyes again, both seemed to be searching the others.
“I don’t know how I feel, right now I’m really confused. Today has opened my eyes to a lot, and from now on I’m going to go with what I feel.” He said quietly but resolutely. “We don’t have to forget anything. You don’t have to hide your feelings. Nothing is going to come between us. You’re more important to me than anything else, Tonitrus.” She began to tear up again before burying her face in his shirt. He wrapped his arms around her again, and slowly rubbed her back.
[Thank you, Auren. I’m sorry that I’m so emotional right now. I never thought you’d kiss me voluntarily. I couldn’t have dreamed it.] She said. [Will you…will you sleep with me tonight?] She said while looking up at him hopefully.
“What?” He said quickly, his voice catching in his throat. “I don’t think we’re ready for something like that, we’ve just kissed!” He didn’t think she’d want to move so quickly.
[No, no! Not like that!] She sent back, her face obviously flushed. [I just meant sleep in the same bed! I just think it’d be nice to lay near you like I used on cold nights when we were going through the league!] Auren calmed visibly, and chuckled a bit.
“Oh, I see. You want to cuddle. I guess that would be fine. First though,” he said, sniffing the air, “we both need a shower.” He let go of his Pokemon and stood, walked to his bag, and grabbed some clothes. “I’ll go first, I guess.”
He walked into the bathroom and began running water, stripping down as he waited for the water to get warm. As he stepped in and let the water wash away the sweat from the day he heard a strange sound. After he heard it a few times he put his ear to the wall. He quickly pulled away with a red tint on his face. He hastily washed his body and his gray hair, then he stepped out and dried off. He put his clothes on and stepped out of the bathroom, then signaled to Tonitrus that it was her turn.
As she watched him come out she wondered why he looked so flustered and why he had taken such a quick shower. She didn’t worry too much about it, instead she just stood and walked into the bathroom to take her own shower. She thought about the fact that she didn’t have to worry about clothes, and was glad for her fur. She stepped into the shower; Auren had left the warm water running.
She let the water run through her fur and reflected on the events of the day. So much had happened that it seemed like it had been days since that meeting with Darkrai. It seemed like ,eeting Alandra and her group had taken place way before the meeting with Darkrai. Shivers went up her spine as she thought about the Dark Pokemon. Had Bora not taken them all away they might all be dead. She had taken a hit from the Pitch-black legend, and while she didn’t show it that hit had been immensely painful. She didn’t doubt the Focus Punch she had charged caused Darkrai a great deal of pain as well, but she wouldn’t have been able to pull that off again. She knew the legendary Pokemon had been playing with her. The Thunder attack she had used hit him directly and didn’t even faze him, and that was one of her most powerful attacks.
The meeting with Mesprit, having a conversation with Auren, and returning home. Kissing Auren - twice, even! - and telling him how she felt. All these things had certainly made the most eventful day that she’d had in a long, long time. While her mind was wandering a sound managed to catch her ears. After a moment she realized she was hearing moans coming through the wall. [No wonder you took such a quick shower!] She sent though the bond, not sure if Auren could hear her. When she heard him laughing though the wall, though, she knew he could.
She wasn’t going to exit the shower quickly, though. The water felt too nice running through her yellow and black fur. Alandra was really loud, or Mercury was just giving it to her really hard. Tonitrus shook her head in an attempt to remove the thoughts that were surfacing. She hadn’t even thought about sex when she asked Auren to sleep with her, and it had embarrassed her greatly when she realized what it sounded like.
Then she thought about what it might be like and almost allowed herself to fantasize. She shook her head again. Maybe she did need to get out of the shower quickly. She finished washing up and tried not to let any more thoughts run through her mind at all. She sighed as the last of the soap rinsed out of her fur. She turned the water off and shook a lot of it our of her fur before she stepped out. She grabbed one of the towels and began drying off. Again she thought about humans and their clothes, and how easy it was for them to dry off. Maybe they were on to something after all.
She grabbed the hair drier and began to dry her fur that way; she didn’t want to be wet in the bed. As Auren heard it turn on he laughed. She very rarely dried her fur fully, and he knew she was doing it now was because she was considering him. If they were going to sleep in the same bed then she probably didn’t want her fur to be damp. He heard the drier turn off and a moment later the Thunderbolt Pokemon stepped out of the bathroom.
Auren couldn’t help but laugh. The Electric type’s fur was clearly holding too much static and standing on end. Tonitrus gave him a threatening look - a clear warning. When he kept laughing she walked over to him and sat on the bed he was lying on. She quickly moved over to him, and when she touched him the static in her fur discharged into him and caused a loud ‘pop’.
“Ah!” He yelled out in surprise as her fur settled down after the discharge. “I’m sorry, you just looked so funny.” He said and began laughing again. She joined in on the laughter then and snuggled into his side.
[You try to dry a full body worth or fur and see what happens, jerk.] She said, causing him to chuckle.
“I guess I can be glad for my normal hair, then.” He said as he pulled her in closely.
[Normal? I hate to tell you this, but you’re the only human I’ve ever seen who had gray hair at your age. It’s not even like older human’s hair that changes with age. I can only imagine you when you get older and your gray hair becomes even more gray.] She said jokingly. Other than his laughter he didn’t respond. He just sat there and held her close to his side and enjoyed her presence. Then they both heard Alandra again, and things got mildly awkward for the two.
[Do you think one day that…we could be like them?] Tonitrus asked her long time friend. Auren thought he heard a bit of hope in her voice.
“Who knows what the future holds?” Auren responded. “Maybe one day, but for right now I’m happy just being here with you. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, but I know we both need to be on our toes for this journey. Right now I’m just happy to have you, and I’m even more happy that we can speak.” He leaned over and readjusted his position so that their faces were on the same level. For the third time their lips met. This time he ran a hand through the fur on her neck as they kissed and pulled her close, and it caused a deepening to the connection between the two. He pulled away with a smile on his face.
“I don’t have any problems with us sharing a kiss now and then, though.” He said as he gazed into her beautiful red eyes. He couldn’t believe he was sitting there holding his long time friend and now…maybe she was something more. Eventually Alandra fell silent, and Tonitrus drifted off to sleep against her trainer. Auren was a bit more restless, however. His mind was racing too quickly to let him go to sleep easily. He held up his left hand and looked at where the ring finger used to be on it.
He knew he had let most of the past go. He could never forget it, though. As he looked at his scarred hand a smile decorated his face. How ironic that he would be marked as something that he might just become. The thought of being with his Pokemon sounded weird when he said it, but the thought made his heart feel light. He took a final look at the sleeping powerhouse that was snuggled firmly into his side and decided he didn’t give a damn what anyone else thought. Maybe he’d fall in love with his Pokemon, but he knew she was just as much a person as he was. Pokemon weren’t stupid animals like some people liked to think. Judgmental Arceans be damned. If someone even seemed hostile towards him because of his closeness to his Pokemon he would make them regret it.
With those thoughts slowly fading, Auren joined his closest friend in the peaceful embrace of sleep.

The man had been calling people all day to ensure relevant members of the church could meet within a week. It wasn’t very difficult to persuade them to gather when he told them they were moving to the next step of their plan. The most important call, however, had been saved for last. He exhaled a breath before he picked up his Pokegear. He never enjoyed talking to whoever might pick up on the other end. He dialed the number and waited. Three rings later a man picked up and answered.
“What can I do for you?” A cheery man said from the other side. The man who had made the call visibly cringed. He knew that the cheery voice was a complete façade, and that it hid the man’s sadistic nature. Between the two people who could have answered, though, he certainly preferred this man.
“We need you to take care of a problem. A rather large one. The pay will depend on the number of people you remove. We can’t be sure how many there are, but you’ll be going after their organization directly. It’s time to remove them from the Sinnoh region for good.” He made the call that Darkrai had authorized. These two weren’t typically contracted to do work for the church because of their nature, but they were the only people capable of doing the job now that Auren had joined the opposing side.
“Ah, that sounds fun! We’ll get right on it! No worries, we’ll take care of it.” The man said, then hung up. The two never asked for information on their mark’s whereabouts. Once they knew who the mark was they savored the hunt. The man scoffed.
“Those two are out of control. Arceus will not judge them as worthy.” The man said before reclining in his chair. The job Darkrai had given him was over. Now he needed to prepare for the inevitable meeting.

Not sure how I feel about this chapter. I was bored when I wrote it, and I hope you weren’t too bored reading it. I tried to develop some romance here since the story hasn’t had much of it until now. How long will it be before it advances? Who knows? I typed a lot of this one when I was tired so I hope there aren’t too many errors. This one only has about 8k words so it's shorter than the last.
I appreciate the reviews and the views everybody! Thanks for reading!
