It had been four days since Merry and her Pokémon had left Littleroot behind them, and they only had another five miles to go before they reached the small city. “Okay guys, ready for a quick pit stop?” she asked, looking down at Jinx, Treeko, and Lassie. Their rather happy cries told her all she needed to know as she laughed at them. “Okay, okay, let me find a good spot… over there!” she said, pointing at a small grassy knoll off the side of the road.
Setting her pack down, Merry sat down on the grass as Jinx padded over to her, nuzzling her abdomen as Treeko and Lassie began chasing each other, playing tag. “Just give me a couple of minutes,” Merry said quietly to her lover, a hand drifting over to where Jinx was laying his head. “Your little troublemaker is tiring me out.” Jinx let out a low whine as he pressed himself into his mate.
[I… I do not know what to say,] he mewled, looking at where he thought his kit – or kits – were growing. [I’ve never been a father before.]
“Treeko, Lassie, stay close and where I can see you!” Merry called out, bringing the two Pokémon’s attention to her. “I don’t you two getting snatched away by some bird!” The two Pokémon nodded and soon dashed back towards her, still playing their game of tag. Sighing patiently, Merry gave Jinx a quick scratch behind an ear before dragging her pack towards her.
“Okay, what to give you guys,” she muttered, opening the bag and digging around in it. “Okay, canned pork, no… canned corn, not really… canned beans? What the hell Dad? Did he even pack food in here for you guys?” she asked herself, bewildered at the lack of Pokémon food that was in her bag at the moment.
Jinx rolled his eyes as he pawed a section of her bag. “Bre, Umbre,” he said to Merry, smirking up at her good naturedly. Merry snorted as she opened the section of the bag and pulled out the Pokémon food.
“Yeah yeah, laugh it up fuzzy, see who gets any tonight,” Merry teased, grinning at Jinx’s horrified expression. Meanwhile, Lassie had stopped to see the two of them interacting and looked at Treeko.
[What Alpha mean, ‘Get any?’] Lassie asked Treeko, his head tilted in curiosity. Treeko shrugged as he looked at his new teammate.
[I don’t know really,] he replied to the dog-like Pokémon next to him, trying to get to some shade. [I think it involves them being mates and all.] Lassie straightened in understanding.
[Alpha deny mate body? Seem bad,] Lassie commented as he laid down next to Treeko. A few minute later, he sniffed, smelling Merry beginning to cook food for them. [Alpha food!]
Merry laughed at how Lassie all but bounced over to her, eager to get his share of the food as she kept cooking a stew. “You can wait you little porker!” she told the Poochyena, ruffling the top of Lassie’s head affectionately as Jinx kept watch, his ears twitching every so often. “Treeko, come on over, you need food too little guy!”
“Tree! TREEKO!” Treeko cried out as he suddenly came to her side in a green flash, looking up at her intently. Merry huffed as she pulled out a bag of mixed nuts and berries and scooped a handful out.
“Well, here’s yours,” Merry said, holding her hand out as she kept on stirring the stew. Treeko happily went to her hand and began eating, the mix rapidly disappearing down the gecko’s mouth. Lassie meanwhile whined, laying his head down on his paws. “Don’t worry Lassie, you’ll get plenty,” she said comfortingly to the Poochyena, stopping to check the stew. “Perfect!” Merry commented as she turned around to grab a few bowls.
Setting some of them aside, Merry filled three of them with the stew; Jinx got his first, followed by Lassie, and finally, Merry’s lone female, the Zigzagoon she had named Rosie. “Okay, eat up!” Merry said as she filled the remaining bowls with water. Watching the Pokémon begin eating, Merry pulled out a granola bar and unwrapped it, licking her lips.
[Mr. Jinx, how long have you been with Merry?] Rosie asked, pausing after a bite of her stew, the food barely staining the brown fur on her face. Jinx looked up, wiping away some meaty bits with a paw.
[Meredith and I have been together as trainer and partner for the same amount of time that you, Lassie, and Satin have been with her,] he answered, looking at Treeko. [Technically, young Treeko here has been her partner for longer, if only by a day.] Rosie looked over at Treeko, excited.
[You’ve been with Merry longer? What did you do your first day?] she asked the gecko, almost shaking off the ground. Treeko looked at the Zigzagoon, confused.
[We really didn’t do all that much,] he said to her. [I mean, I helped her rescue Mr. Birch, and I defended her on the way to finding this Brendon human, but other than that, I fought a Torchic and won.] Jinx raised an eyebrow as Lassie ate his stew sloppily, the Poochyena’s instincts running wild.
[A Torchic? A fire user, I assume?] Jinx inquired of Treeko as he ‘gently’ bopped Lassie on the head, bringing out a yelp of surprise from the somewhat larger canine.
[Lassie do?] Lassie asked, whining submissively. Jinx looked at him dignantly.
[We will be improving your table manners, as well as your literacy,] Jinx stated simply as he gestured to Lassie’s food dish, just as Merry intervened.
“Jinx, don’t hit Lassie on the head like that!” she chided, giving her lover a light glare. Jinx opened his mouth to speak, but Merry kept on going. “And no, I don’t care if Lassie did deserve it for eating like a pig! We do not slap our friends and family for poor table manners! Am I understood?” Jinx’s ears drooped as he fixed a pleading gaze on his mate. Merry chuckled. “Keep on trying, and I might let you sleep with me tonight,” she added, pulling out another granola bar and eating it.
During this, Lassie looked at Treeko. [What Jinx say? Litasee?] the pup asked timidly. Treeko looked at Rosie, wordlessly debating with her about who should tell him. In the end of the two second argument, Rosie won.
Sighing, Treeko plucked a blade of grass off the ground and began chewing it nervously. [Well Lassie, what Jinx means is that he is going to teach you how to speak better, like we do,] he explained, trying to keep it simple for the other Pokémon. [Also, he and I’m assuming Merry, don’t want you to eat like that. It’s like a cleanliness issue or something,] he added, trying to gauge the Poochyena’s reaction. Lassie simply tilted his head, curious.
[Alpha want clean Lassie?] the Poochyena asked. Treeko and Rosie both nodded in agreement. Lassie looked down at his food bowl and tried to eat his meal at a slower rate, surprising everyone. Jinx slumped in defeat as he sedately continued eating from his own dish.
[Wow, that pack mentality does seem pretty effective for him,] Rosie commented to Treeko, who simply shrugged in response.
About ten minutes later, after they had all finished eating and Merry had cleaned their bowls out, they all stretched themselves out and got ready to go. “Okay, Lassie, Rosie’s turn to be out,” she said, pulling out Lassie’s Pokeball. The Poochyena whined as he was converted into energy and contained in the red and white orb. Rosie, meanwhile, began jumping around Jinx, trying to get the older Pokémon to play with her.
Merry smiled as Treeko climbed up to her shoulder, watching as Jinx humored the much smaller Pokémon in a game of tag as they all continued heading for Petalburg. However, they soon ran into another trainer. “Hey you!” the other trainer shouted as Merry came into view. “Come and battle me!” Merry stopped and looked at the trainer in question.
She was about her age, dressed in what could be argued as a conservative school uniform. If Merry were so inclined, she would almost call the other girl pretty, if it weren’t for her attitude… and Jinx getting to her first. Merry closed her eyes and sighed. “Just a sec,” she told the girl stomping her way over to Merry, looking at her Pokémon. “Guys, you feel ready for another battle?” she asked them.
Jinx nodded sagely as Rosie bounced up and down, yapping happily as Treeko himself jumped off her shoulder. Merry looked at the teen in front of her. “Well, I guess the answer is yes,” she said, shrugging. “So, what’s your name?”
“Annabeth!” the girl declared boldly before throwing a Pokeball out. “Now get to it Zigzagoon!” she commanded as the Zigzagoon came out, ready for battle.
“Okay then,” Merry said awkwardly at Annabeth’s rather crass attitude, “Treeko, go on in!” she ordered, pointing at the other Zigzagoon.
“Zigzagoon, tackle!” Annabeth almost immediately commanded, sending the small raccoon like Pokémon forward to attack Treeko. Merry was almost about to command Treeko to move out of the way and attack back when Jinx barked something to Grass-type, who merely nodded in acknowledgment as the Zigzagoon came closer and closer.
Treeko felt pain as the Zigzagoon’s head collided with his stomach, the impact hurting even more than usual due to his previous meal. [Now!] Jinx commanded from the sidelines, watching the fight in earnest. Treeko grabbed the Zigzagoon by its shaggy coat and focused on draining its power. Almost instantly, the Wood Gecko felt a surge of energy flow through him, and the Zigzagoon visibly flinched as it felt its own strength fade away. Feeling much better, Treeko kicked the other Pokémon away, sending the small creature flying back several feet before stopping to shakily stand back up.
Annabeth’s face twisted in anger. “Don’t just stand there!” she shouted at her Zigzagoon, “Get back in there and tear that damned lizard apart!” The Zigzagoon whined, scared. If it went forward, it was almost certainly going to be defeated by the Treeko. If it retreated, then its master was certainly going to give it hell later….
“Hey, that’s no way to treat your Pokémon!” Merry shouted, furious. Annabeth looked up at her and snarled.
“Fuck off bitch! This doesn’t concern you!” she spat out, just as someone walked into view.
“Maybe not, but it does concern me.”
Merry turned her head to look at the new arrival, and Annabeth took that opening. “Now dammit!” Whimpering, the Zigzagoon rushed forward… only to suddenly be snatched up off the ground, held in the jaws of what Merry could only belatedly realize was an Arcanine.
Merry quickly grabbed Treeko off the ground and backed away, Jinx and Rosie following suit as she took in the sight of what was going on. The new arrival was a guy with a mask on, only taller than Merry herself by a few inches, but he let out an aura that meant business as he walked up to Annabeth. “Ma’am, do you have any idea of how to actually fight in a legal Trainer battle?” the guy asked, crossing his arms.
Annabeth glared at him. “Yeah I do, I attend Petalburg Academy,” she said, trying to make herself seem tough. “Why the hell do you want to know?” The man looked back at the Arcanine.
“Toby, ask the Zigzagoon how this young… lady,” he said, sarcastically putting emphasis on ‘lady,’ “How she treats her Pokémon.” Annabeth was about to roll her eyes when the Arcanine, Toby, if Merry heard right, gently set the Zigzagoon on the ground.
[Are you okay?] Toby asked the Zigzagoon, the massive Pokémon lowering its head to the Zigzagoon’s level. The Zigzagoon shivered in fear. [Hey, don’t worry, my owner just wants to help, you’re not in trouble,] Toby added, gently nudging the small Pokémon comfortingly.
[She…,] the Zigzagoon whimpered hesitantly, [She hurts me… when I don’t win battles for her… and she calls me names….]
The man closed his eyes as he visibly stiffened. “Miss, can I have your name please?” he asked, his tone cold. Annabeth huffed.
“Yeah, sure, Annabeth Powers,” she replied, smirking. The man opened his eyes as he pulled out a leather object from his back pocket.
“Okay, Miss Powers,” he said, flipping the thing open. “You’re coming with me to answer some questions at the police station. Am I understood?” he asked.
Merry’s jaw dropped. This guy was a cop?! He sure didn’t seem like it… although, she did remember some of the police sergeants back in Johto occasionally having Arcanine at their side, so it shouldn’t have been that much of a shock. Apparently, Annabeth had the same reaction as the teen she was previously fighting. “Wha-? Why the fuck should I go with you, just because you have some shiny ass badge?!” she shrieked. The man, unseen by Merry, glared at her.
“Miss Powers, your Zigzagoon shows signs consistent with abuse,” he told her. “I’m simply taking you in so that we, the police, don’t end up sending the wrong person to juvie, at the very least.” Annabeth tensed, ready to bolt. “Or, I can charge you with resisting arrest and verbally assaulting an officer, take your pick,” he added deadpan. “Personally, I’d pick option one, which doesn’t involve me cuffing you.”
Merry clutched her Pokémon tightly as they all came to her, trying to get away from the obviously furious human in front of them. Annabeth herself shook, trying to decide if she should take her chances… only to slump over in defeat. “Fine, whatever asshole,” she said, sticking her hands in her pockets. The man nodded.
“Thank you, Miss Powers, for cooperating,” he stated. “Toby, Zigzagoon.”
Toby nodded. [Okay, up you go,] the Arcanine said as it grabbed the Zigzagoon, the small Pokémon almost disappearing in its maw. The man escorted Annabeth over to the Arcanine, and helped her get onto the Pokémon’s back before climbing on himself.
“Okay Toby, the station, and as fast as you can,” he ordered, and Merry tried not to blink as the Arcanine simply burst into motion, covering a distance of at least a couple dozen meters in seconds flat. Rosie looked up to Jinx.
[…can you do that?] she asked the Umbreon, curious.

It was well in the afternoon when Merry and her Pokémon finally made it to Petalburg. Or at least, Jinx was out to appreciate it. After the mess with the cop, Merry had put Treeko and Rosie back in their Pokeballs for safekeeping, leaving only Jinx to be out with her. “Wow, Petalburg,” Merry said to Jinx as they headed to the Pokémon Center. “You know, we never actually stopped here during the move. I was still stuck in the truck.”
Jinx listened, only half paying attention as he scanned their surroundings for any signs of trouble, real or imagined. The incident with the cop had rattled the Umbreon’s nerves, and well, he was understandably paranoid. Soon however, the two of them reached the Pokémon Center. “Jinx, I’ll be fine in here,” Merry told her Umbreon. “So, can I at least put you in the Pokeball?” Jinx looked up at her and sighed.
“Bre…,” he said dejectedly, ears falling as Merry reluctantly pulled out his Pokeball. Sighing, Merry recalled him and set the ball back in her pack as she entered the Center. Looking around, Merry quickly walked up to the Nurse Joy at the counter.
“Hi, I’m here to get my Pokémon patched up,” Merry said to the nurse, pulling out the five Pokeballs that held her team. The nurse looked down at her and smiled.
“Okay miss, I’ll be happy to do that!” she exclaimed. “Can I see some identification please?” Merry pulled out her trainer license and showed it to her. Nurse Joy looked at it closely and nodded. “Thank you Miss… Walker? You wouldn’t happen to be related to Mr. Walker over at the gym, would you?” Nurse Joy asked.
Merry sighed. “Yeah, he’s my dad,” she said, taking the card back from the nurse as the latter typed some information in the computer in front of her. “I’m planning to drop by and visit him later.” Nurse Joy looked up from the monitor and smiled.
“Well, it’s always good to visit family, in my opinion anyway,” the pink haired nurse stated as she hit a key and turned away from the monitor. “Anyway, we’ll give them all a quick check up, and if anything comes up, well, we will certainly give you a call on your PokeNav. However, I don’t think it should take more than an hour.”
Merry smiled shyly and nodded. “Thank ma’am,” she said, handing the Pokeballs over to the nurse, hesitating when it came to Jinx’s. “Umm, so, be back in about an hour, right?”
“That is correct,” Nurse Joy confirmed. “If we think it may take longer, we’ll be sure to notify you.”
Merry nodded quickly after a muttered thanks and headed to the exit. Granted, she would like nothing more than to stay and wait for the hour to go by, but waiting always seemed to take forever in her mind, so, Merry decided to at least be constructive with her time. Feeling the cash burning in her wallet, Merry set out to get real, not made on the road food.

Meanwhile…
Police Captain William Hurst groaned as he shuffled paperwork around on his desk. “So, Mister 'Warden,'” he began in his thick Orre drawl, “What brings an L6 Agent to my precinct?”
In front of the captain sat a relatively young looking man, clad in what would normally be considered Sunday-casual clothes, if it weren’t for the unmistakable bulk of an armored vest pushing the shirt up, or the pistol strapped to his thigh. Chuckling, Warden looked up at Hurst. “Well, to be fair, I was actually on my way to the Gym, see who was in charge before I took the Hoenn Challenge when I heard a fight going on,” he explained, sending a hand to scratch at the back of his nearly bald head. Hurst groaned.
“A fight? Seriously? You detain a young girl for having a Pokémon battle?” Hurst asked impatiently. Warden stopped chuckling.
“No, I didn’t,” he said, his eyes narrowing. “Captain Hurst, I have abilities comparable to a Lucario’s or any other Psychic Pokémon, and that talent helps me detect and locate incidents of Pokémon abuse and high crime. What I felt then was that a Pokémon was in fear, fear which from personal experience in prior cases was consistent with abuse. So, I intervened. When I arrived, the other trainer, a young girl, maybe around sixteen, brunette, turned to look at me, distracting her from the battle. The suspect used that moment to order her Pokémon to attack. I had Toby, my Arcanine, intercept and ask the Pokémon some questions.”
Hurst paused to give Warden a pointed look. “…and pray, how tell, can you understand the ‘questions,’ your Arcanine ‘asked’ this Pokémon?” Hurst asked. Warden smirked.
“Heard of N Harmonia from Unova?”
Hurst’s eyes widened. “You know that guy?” the police officer asked, curious. Warden shrugged.
“He’s a good friend,” he answered simply. “Helped make the L6 Division to begin with. Anyway, I have a similar ability to him, only it’s limited to the Pokémon I have. Anyway, based on the circumstances, I made the call to bring Miss Annabeth Powers in for questioning.” Hurst took a deep breath and let it out.
“Well, I can’t fault you in your reasoning,” the captain admitted. “However, I would have preferred to be notified about any L6 activity a little bit earlier.” Warden shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
“Yeah, well, about that…,” he began, running a hand over his rather short brown hair, “You see, we only about a couple dozen or so agents right now in total, and with us not really having any way to communicate with each other, well, it gets real hard to let other precincts know we’re coming. Operational compartmentalization and security, I hope you understand.”
Hurst grumbled. “I don’t like it. But, as it is, thank you for the heads-up. So, why are you interested in the Hoenn Challenge anyway?” Warden laughed.
“Eh, figured I’d give it another go, see who the Champion is for this year,” Warden said, smiling. “Thought I’d give it another shot after about five years of not being here. Anyway Captain, permission to be dismissed?”
“Granted,” Hurst said, staring at Warden as he stood up and stretched. It was after he had left that Hurst realized he had spoken to one of Hoenn’s greatest trainers.

Merry had come back and picked up her Pokémon, and now, after some assistance from Nurse Joy, was heading to the gym where her father worked. As she was walking, Merry tried to calm her shaky nerves. She had never really seen the gym her father was working in, nor what type he was going to specialize in. After all, for all she knew, her father could have been assigned dragons! The teen gulped as the Petalburg Gym came into view. “Well, here goes nothing,” she muttered to herself as she headed to the doors.
The doors quietly hissed open, revealing a dojo like setting to Merry… along with her father in front of a young boy about her age. Yet the first thing she noticed was the kid’s almost tea-green colored hair. Granted, there were definitely people with blue hair, but green? That was a bit unusual. Her father looked up briefly and saw her, yet held his hand up.
“See Mr. Walker, I wanted a Pokémon to keep me company, and well, I, well, umm, I uhh….” The boy stuttered shyly, running a hand through his considerable volume of hair. Norman nodded at the boy.
“I understand,” he said simply. “However, I personally cannot just give you a Pokémon, even if we are close to being neighbors. However, my daughter can certainly help you capture one. Isn’t that right Meredith?”
Merry wanted to punch her dad so badly now. But, not wanting to lose face, she smiled as the boy turned to look at her. “Hello,” she said politely. The boy looked back at Norman who handed the boy a Pokeball.
“This one is simply as a loan until you can catch your own,” Norman explained to the boy. “Once you actually get your own, I expect this one back.” The boy nodded vigorously.
“Sure thing Mr. Norman!” the kid said excitedly before heading to the door… and subsequently, Merry. Merry glared at her father before following the kid outside.
However, just as they got outside, the boy began coughing. Concerned, Merry quickly got to his side and got ready to at least hold him up. “Hey, come on, get it together,” Merry told him gently. Soon, the boy stopped coughing.
“T-Thanks,” he told her. “I-I’m sorry, just, it’s just allergies, I swear!” the kid said, trying to keep her from freaking out. Merry looked at him sternly, unconvinced.
“Uh-huh, sure,” she commented. “So, what’s your name?”
“Wallace Abernathy,” the kid told her. “Well, most people call me Wally at any rate.”
“Merry,” Merry said to Wally. “Okay, so, let’s go and get you a Pokémon of your own!” Wally nodded and followed her out of the city into Route 102. The two of them looked around as they entered the bush. “So, do you have any Pokémon in mind that you want to catch?” she asked, trying to break the ice.
Wally shrank into himself. “Oh, uh, I don’t know,” he said quietly. “I’ve never been around Pokémon all that much because of my condition.” He was about to continue when the bushes ahead of them rustled.
“Okay, release the Pokémon my dad gave you and flush the other Pokémon out,” Merry instructed, whispering to Wally. The green haired kid nodded and released the borrowed Pokémon, a Zigzagoon.
“Umm, go get that Pokémon?” Wally ordered hesitantly at the Zigzagoon.
“Goon!” the Pokémon barked before diving right on into the fray. In seconds, the Zigzagoon came out chasing a small Pokémon that looked like it was in a dress.
“Okay, now, you have to weaken that Pokémon before you try and catch it!” Merry told Wally, who simply looked at the strange Pokémon in wonder.
“Okay!” he replied, snapping out of his daze. “Zigzagoon, attack!” Wordlessly, the Zigzagoon tackled the Pokémon to the ground, sending it sprawling as it jumped away. Merry pulled out one of her Pokeballs and handed it to Wally.
“Okay, you throw this at that weird Pokémon over there!” she instructed. After that, well, we’ll just have to see!”
Wally gulped as he grabbed the device from her and looked at the Pokémon the Zigzagoon was attacking. “Okay, Zigzagoon, back off!” he commanded, throwing the Pokeball.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl as the red and white orb flew through the air to lightly hit the other Pokémon in the head, sucking it in with a flash of red light. The Pokeball fell to the ground and began shaking, the strange Pokémon struggling to get free. Once… twice… three times the ball shook, forcing Wally and Merry to hold their breathes in anticipation.
Click!
Wally’s face broke into an elated grin as he rushed to pick up the Pokeball from where it lay. “I- I did it!” he cried out happily. “I caught a Pokémon!” Merry laughed at his antics.
“Yeah, and you did a pretty good job too!” she told him as she recalled her father’s Zigzagoon. “Okay, let’s head back to the gym, let my dad know that you did a fantastic job on capturing your first Pokémon.” Wally nodded happily, too happy to really care what Merry was saying at the moment.
The two of them eventually made it back to the gym, where yet again, someone was talking to Norman. Only this time, Merry recognized the person.
“-Well Mister Walker, I certainly appreciate the talk,” the cop from earlier said to Norman, relaxed. “I guess I’ll be seeing you in a few weeks to challenge your gym.” Norman smirked good naturedly as he saw his daughter and Wally enter.
“I suppose I will,” he said in reply before gesturing to Merry. “Meredith, Wallace, this is G Stewart,” he introduced, pointing at the agent in question. “Mister Stewart, this is Wallace Abernathy, my neighbor here in Petalburg, and my daughter, Meredith. She just started her journey about five days ago.”
Stewart chuckled. “Eh, don’t worry kids, I’m not that old, so, the whole ‘Mister Stewart’ thing isn’t necessary,” he told them. “Just G will do.”
Merry balked. “G? What kind of a name is that?” she asked without thinking. Norman looked stunned at her apparent disrespect, while G smirked.
“A good one,” he shot back, giving her a quick once over.
“So, what do you plan on doing with your Pokémon?” he asked Merry. Merry shrugged.
“Well,” she answered shyly, “I’m trying to help Professor Birch with whatever research he needs help with. Other than that, well, I don’t really know.” G smiled warmly.
“Yeah, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life at your age either,” he told her. “But then, well, I had a friend convince me to try for the Leagues, and I went ahead and did it.” G smiled broadly in remembrance. “Best year of my life.”
Merry smiled shyly as G’s words filled her mind with ideas, her father looking amused at the whole scenario. However, Wally shakily stepped forward, Norman’s borrowed Pokeball still in hand.
“Umm, excuse me, Mr. Walker?” Wally asked, shrinking back into his shell. Norman looked at him.
“Yes?”
Wally went over to the gym leader and handed him back the Zigzagoon. “I caught my Pokémon, and wanted to return your Zigzagoon sir,” he said, almost mumbling at the end. Norman smiled as he took the Zigzagoon back.
“Well Wallace, I’m glad for you,” he told Wally. “I just want you to know, that since you and your Pokémon are now partners, what you do affects your Pokémon as well, and vice versa. But tell your uncle I said thank you, I appreciate his help in getting the gym set up.” Wally smiled in pride.
“I will Mister Walker!” Wally said excitedly before going into a coughing fit. Merry began to go to Wally’s side, but G beat her to the punch. G quickly grabbed Wally by the shoulders, and Merry was almost certain that there was a faint blue glow around his hands. A couple of moments later, Wally stopped coughing. “Thanks Mister Stewart,” Wally gasped, still recovering.
G nodded. “You’re welcome,” he said back, helping the teen back up. “Best cure for this is to get outside and get used to the air. Helps me sometimes when I’ve got a cough. Now go on, I of all people don’t want to keep you or your relatives waiting.”
Wally nodded and left, but not before giving Merry a confused look. G chuckled, with Norman looking at him. “What’s so funny?” Norman asked, bringing Merry’s attention back to them.
G pointed a thumb at Merry. “I think someone has a crush on your daughter,” he commented, smirking. “Anyway, I’m going to be going on my way, places to go, people to meet, places to see. You know, business as usual. Have a good evening, Mister Walker. Younger Walker,” he added, tipping an imaginary hat to Merry, who rolled her eyes.
Soon, it was only father and daughter left in the room. “So, how is your journey so far?” Norman asked his daughter. Merry sighed.
“Okay so far,” she said. “Umm, my Pokémon are doing okay. Jinx is kind of like the team dad or something,” she added. “It’s actually kind of sweet to see.” Norman perked an eyebrow up.
“Really? I would have never guessed that,” he told Merry. “Then again, I’m still not totally in agreement with your mother about her handing Jinx to you, but, but if he helps keep your nightmares down to a minimum, well, I guess the better.” Merry’s jaw clenched just for a moment, and then left.
“Yeah. Well Dad, I just wanted to stop by, say hello,” she said, leaning in and hugging her father. Norman returned the hug, smiling.
“Well, it was good seeing you dear,” he responded. “I look forward to when you decide to accept the Hoenn League Challenge. I hope I get the chance to battle you.” Merry looked at her father and nodded.
“Yeah, okay Dad,” she said, breaking the hug. “Well, I love you!” she added, waving to her dad as she headed for the doors. Norman waved back.
“Love you too kiddo,” Norman said back, waving as his daughter left his gym. “I’ll see you coming through those doors soon.”

That night, Merry was in a room at the Pokémon Center, readying herself for bed. Jinx was now out of his Pokeball, sniffing around. Yawning, Merry put her toothbrush down and exited the bathroom. In her earlier mirror inspection, Merry had noticed that she had developed a bit of a bulge under her navel. So, in effect, Merry hoped that her pregnancy was either almost halfway done, or halfway done.
Getting under the covers to her bed, Merry was about to turn off the light when Jinx jumped up onto the bed, padding over to her and nuzzling her face. “Feeling frisky?” Merry asked, giggling.
“Bree…,” Jinx replied, purring smoothly as he tried to get under the covers with her. Merry smiled at the purrs she got from her lover… just as she picked him up and set him by her side, outside the covers.
“Oh no, I still remember how you acted earlier today,” Merry told Jinx. “You, my little mishap, are not getting this,” she pointed to her crotch, smirking, “Tonight. Sleep well Jinx.” Merry stuck out her tongue as she turned and turned off the light, the only illumination being provided by the streetlights outside coming through the window and Jinx’s own rings.
Jinx sighed as he set his head on his lover’s thigh, thoroughly unhappy with the sleeping arrangement for the night.

Dear God in Heaven, this took FOREVER. First of all, I will admit, writing Pokémon battles aren’t really my thing, but then again, with practice comes experience. Also, trying to figure out how each of Merry’s Pokémon interact with each other and Merry was a bit of a unique challenge. As a couple of you have noticed by now, each Pokémon has their own way of speaking, which in turn reflects in a way their nature and background. Treeko, Rosie, and Jinx both speak like normal people, with the first two speaking the way they do because they’re young. Jinx, on the other paw, is like the proper British gentleman in how he speaks, which I personally found fun to write. Lassie, on the other hand, was a challenge because he’s A) feral, and B) not as literate as everyone else, so I had to try and find simple words that he could understand and arrange them in a way that conveys exactly what he’s saying.
Also, Wally. Holy shit, Wally was a pain in the ass. One, I never found him as engaging an NPC as say, May/Brendon, but I still had to include him, if only for the game’s sake. Personally, I think the kid’s got an immunodefiency problem, but weak enough that he can actually go outside and go on a Pokémon journey.
Finally, thoughts on the OC I put in there? If it helps, G is not going to be a love interest to Merry, nor will he be a member of her travelling group, if she ever gets one. His role is more like… wait a second, I can’t spoil the story this early in the author’s notes! You all must continue reading and waiting for updates to this story to find out! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Mine is an evil laugh!
…not really. I have a horrible evil laugh.

While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error. The AFF system includes a rigorous and complex abuse control system in order to prevent improper use of the AFF service, and we hope that its deployment indicates a good-faith effort to eliminate any illegal material on the site in a fair and unbiased manner. This abuse control system is run in accordance with the strict guidelines specified above.
