This one is a little
heavier on the explanation, simply because the perfect song needed so
little expansion, but I felt my words should be more numerous than
the song lyrics.
The perfect song is
“Right Here” by Staind, and was pointed out to me by the
astonishingly wonderful Blythe. If you haven’t read Not Now,
Not Ever, go do so now. Then read No Mercy. Then you can return.
This will be...hee hee...Right Here waiting.
******
He needed a plan.
Fortunately, for the first time in maybe years, he had uninterrupted,
distraction-less time to come up with one.
Naturally he'd been
bored out of his mind.
I know I've been
mistaken.
But just give me a
break and see the changes that I've made.
“Here we are,
Yohji-kun!” Omi announced, as if he couldn’t see for
himself the cab had pulled up in front of the Koneko. Ken and
Aya-chan and Momoe-san stood waiting to welcome him home. A certain
red-covered head, though, was nowhere in sight. Of course. This was
Aya. Nothing could ever be simple or easy or painless when
Fujimiya Aya (male) was concerned. Even his damned name made life
difficult.
He let Omi ensconce him
in his room, let Ken catch him up on everything he’d missed
soccer-wise, let Aya-chan fuss over him and Momoe-san spout wise
sayings, then he cleared the room in ten seconds by asking where Aya
was. Chuckling, he re-acquainted himself with nicotine on his fire
escape. And whattaya know, caught just a glimpse of a brooding
red-framed face jerking out of sight. Playing gargoyle, was he?
Got news for you, Aya-love, way too pretty for that...
Had to be the
damn roof, didn’t it?
I've got some
imperfections.
But how can you
collect them all and throw them in my face?
“You should be in
bed,” the redhead snarled, as Yohji had known he would. Either
that, or attempt—and make—the ten-meter leap to the next
building. Graceful and effortless, just to piss him off...
“Too boring
alone,” Yohji answered, and cursed. No, no, no, damn it, that
was not the plan! Aya sneered and moved to pass him, Yohji stepped
in front of him. “We need to talk, Aya.”
The redhead hesitated,
probably trying to decide where to hit him without putting him back
in the hospital. Not that he would feel bad, just because it would
affect the team. His pay. His sister’s education. Yohji
stayed put. Given a minute to review the options, Aya would realize
there was nowhere safe to hit him.
This was Aya, he
reminded himself. Just because the man pondered knocking him back
into intensive care, didn’t mean he didn’t love Yohji.
It was just how Aya was.
But you always find
a way to keep me right here waiting.
He’d given up.
He really had. A man can only take so many doors slammed in his face
before he gets a clue. Given up, gotten over, gotten on with things.
But—
You always find the
words to say to keep me right here waiting.
“May I kiss you?”
Aya had asked. And he’d been right back where he started,
wanting so it hurt, needing so he couldn’t breathe, desperate
and reckless and determined because damn it he was dying without—
And if you chose to
walk away, I'd still be right here waiting,
Searching for the
things to say to keep you right here waiting.
“Please, Aya,”
he whispered. “Talk to me.”
The redhead folded his
arms and the temperature dropped.
I hope you're not
intending,
To be so
condescending, it's as much as I can take.
“I’m an
idiot,” Yohji admitted. “I’ve done some truly
stupid things in my life, but that one beat them all. I hurt you—“
And you're so
independent,
you just refuse to
bend so I keep bending till I break.
“Dream on, Kudou.
I would not let you hurt me.”
Stick to the plan. Do
not strangle the redhead. Stick to the plan.
But you always find
a way to keep me right here waiting.
You always find the
words to say to keep me right here waiting.
“Move, Kudou.
Aya-chan is home.”
Do not kick the
redhead.
And if you chose to
walk away, I'd still be right here waiting.
Searching for the
things to say to keep you right here waiting.
“Aya—“
Yohji reached for that beautiful face, even though he knew better.
The swordsman who regularly dodged bullets avoided him as gracefully,
and stepped the glare up even further.
Talk. There had to be
something he could say—
I've made a
commitment.
I'm willing to bleed
for you.
“Please,”
he said again, all his planned speeches lost in icy violet eyes.
Damn it. Aya was right, he should be in bed, and falling over would
not earn sympathy, would not put the warmth back in that gorgeous
glare, just more irritation...
I needed
fulfillment.
I found what I need
in you.
What was it about Aya
that tied his charm in knots and set his brain on fire? The great
Kudou Yohji was never at a loss for the right words!
The great Kudou Yohji was the moron who got him in
this mess. Just Yohji was the one needed here. Aya saw through all
the masks.
Why can't you just
forgive me?
I don't want to
relive all the mistakes I've made along the way.
“Aya, what can I
do?”
But I always find a
way to keep you right here waiting.
I always find the
words to say to keep you right here waiting.
“Move.”
But you always find
a way, to keep me right here waiting.
You always find the
words to say to keep me right here waiting.
Yohji moved. The
redhead stalked past him.
And if I chose to
walk away would you be right here waiting,
Searching for the
things to say to keep me right here waiting.
The great Kudou Yohji
had no need to hold people hostage. There were always women—and
men too—standing in line for the great Kudou Yohji.
