The Run-down and the challenge

Raw: Well it's here! I just couldn't write for a week because of work and I didn't want people to think I'm ditching the story. ^-^ Side note: I was listening to Red - Let Go when I wrote most of this - on repeat. So yeah, epic win-ness of chapter. xD

-----------------------

"Alright, Angel. Your first goal is to beat the elite four here in Kanto, right?" Gary asked, as the two shuffled along through Viridian forest. High noon wasn't as forgiving in in the summer, but thankfully in the autumn, it was very welcome.
"Yeah. I don't know anything about the other counties out there, but I would like to be Champion in all four places, eventually..." she replied, noting mentally, 'That is, if we make it through taking down this Team Rocket cell.'
"Okay then, big shot; what kind of pokemon does Brock use, and what kind of pokemon works best against him?"
"I don't know. I was thinking I'd just come at him with sheer power. Moonlight looks like he can rattle a few cages."
"Vee!" the silver-sheened pokemon exclaimed, agreeing totally with his master. He could most definitely take on any pokemon!
"Ha!" Gary exclaimed, crossing his arms over his chest. "That's rich. You can't win a battle with power alone. Every pokemon has strengths and weaknesses. Well, except Sableye, but you don't need to worry about that. Those don't live here. But, every pokemon has types, which are strong or weak against other types."
"I knew that - The world isn't filled with Eevee's."
"Not that kind of type. That is a species. I'm talking about types like fire, grass, water, electric..."

And so, the conversation went on; Gary spent most of their walk explaining the intricacies of the pokemon world; types and weaknesses, their strengths, dual type pokemon, and the various strategies for the gyms and of course, the elite four. With a mind filled with information that most rookie trainers do not have, Angel set her eyes on the Pewter city gym for her first real battle. Would she win? Would she lose? She wasn't sure, but set with the knowledge that Gary passed on to her, she could just wager that she might have a chance to win. Moonlight might be seriously over leveled for the job, but he has a serious type disadvantage - Rock types had insane defense and a resistance to normal moves. Moonlight couldn't learn any beneficial water, fire, or grass moves, let alone a fighting one - and Iron Tail wasn't a TM in their possession - so Angel had a little plan of her own.

"Well, do you think you're ready, Angel?" Gary asked, stopping just before the Gym door.
"Yeah. If I lose, I lose. I won't cry over it, though. It just means I need to get a better plan of attack, that's all." Nodding silently, Gary pulled the large door to the gym open, for the female that he'd known since he was only just out of diapers. From kinda cool lass-girl to a full throttle Elite Four hopeful, she'd really grown. As she walked in ahead of him, a happy, proud bounce to her step, he couldn't help a quick glance to her hindquarters, held so perfectly tight in those cute jeans. It was - Gary shook his head. He'd better not go there; not now, not ever. That was a fast track to ruin a perfectly good friendship. That is, if Brock didn't get his way first.

"BROCK! I CHALLENGE YOU!" Angel bellowed, stepping in from the bright outside light, into the dimly lit cave-like gym. Gary rolled his eyes, letting the door shut itself behind him. Brock was busy staring over a female trainer whom had come in earlier, a rock pokemon fanatic. Brock thought he was in love. But, as it seemed, a perfectly terribly timed trainer wanted to challenge him, and he had his duties to uphold.
"I'm sorry my love, I must go and take on this little problem...Do forgive me, oh beautiful cherub of my heart!" he exclaimed, leaving the insanely embarrassed female to try and worm her way out of the gym.
"Alright, trainer. I accept your challenge. I will use two pokemon. The first-" he trailed off, once his eyes adjusted once again to the lighting. The trainer was no mere trainer; she was a Goddess! "Oh be still my beating heart! Never have I set my eyes on such beauty..." he spoke, falling to his knees before Angel. Gary gave the sad excuse for a gym leader an angry, possessive glare as he stepped up beside Angel.
"Get off your knees and send out your damn Geodude, Brock. Hands off the girl." Even Gary wasn't sure where his burning jealousy came from; maybe it was sparked on by the expression of blushing meekness upon Angel's face. Brock however almost leaped back at the sight of Gary. He was that guy who took out his pokemon several months ago. He was the Champion right now, and it seemed the beautiful Aphrodite before him, was his.
"Shame...Win some, lose some...But I won't be losing this battle! GO, GEODUDE!" Out flew the red and white ball, blurring in it's fast rotation as it released the round rocky pokemon.
"Geo! Geodude!"
"Alright Moonlight, you're up!" Stepping out from behind her, the shiny pokemon slinking carefully into the battle field. He didn't like to hurt other pokemon, but if it was what Angel wanted him to do, he would.
"Vee! Eevee!"
"An Eevee? Really? You're joking me, right?" Brock muttered, frowning. This was going to be easier than he thought.

Now was a chance to try out that device, Angel thought, as she pushed the little button on Gary's necklace. Out popped the bottom, revealing the little speaker and lens, just like before.

"SCANNING...Skipping previous pokemon. Pokemon present: Geodude. Male. This pokemon is of level 18 with a Relaxed Nature, with the following moves: Magnitude, Rock Throw, Rock Tomb, and Tackle. Also present, within a pokeball: Onix. Male. This pokemon is of level 20 with a relaxed nature, with the following moves: Tackle, Bind, Rock Throw, and Rage. End of pokemon list."

"Hey! That's cheating!" Brock exclaimed, clenching his fist.
"No, it's not." Gary interrupted, waving a hand at the gym leader. "There's nothing against battle aids like that. I of all people should know."
"Grrrr. Fine. GEODUDE, MAGNITUDE!"
"Moonlight, use Sand attack, six times! It's slow, you can get one in before it attacks!"
"Vee!" Moonlight replied, turning around quickly. He put all his effort into the first one, letting loose a plume of scratchy sand at the slow Geodude. The sand struck the rock as it leaped up into the air to slam the Magnitude as best it could. "Quick, when it slams down, jump up!" Angel commanded, as the Geodude tried pathetically to wave the sand from his face as it fell back down. As the rock slammed hard down on the gym floor, Moonlight did exactly as he was told, and managed to dodge the magnitude eight. As ordered before, Eevee kept spewing sand attack after sand attack at the Geodude, managing to avoid the respective Rock Throws that the little stone tried to heave at the annoying opponent pokemon. Brock's voice was sounding a little strained; was this little furry Eevee going to win?
"Geodude, Magnetude! There's no point using a Rock Tomb with all that sand in your eyes!" As the sixth sand attack fell onto the crying geodude's face, Moonlight glanced back at his trainer for her next command. He couldn't imagine having all that sand caked into his eyes; the rock couldn't see a thing.
"Moonlight, use a few tail whips! Get that defense down a bit!"
"Vee!" Moonlight jumped forth, and whipped his tail into the face of the Geodude. He cried out, as he had been busy trying to clean off his eyes. He hadn't even heard Brock's order.
"GEODUDE! MAGNITUDE, I SAID!" finally, as the third tail whip struck the pokemon's face, Geodude leaped into the air once again, this time higher than before, driven by the pain of sand in his eye.
"Moonlight, try and dodge that attack again, and then bite it until it faints!"
Moonlight leaped up into the air as the Geodude fell, this time with a Magnitude nine. Moonlight's jump wasn't as well timed this time, and as he hit the ground, he managed to pick up the tail end of the quake for 22 damage. But that didn't phase the little Eevee, and as he launched towards the Geodude, he bore his fangs, and chomped hard onto the Geodude's arm.
"GEOOOOOOOOO!" screamed the pokemon, as it could not withstand the critical hit. With dizzy eyes he fell back, and was withdrawn from the field.
"Damn. You're full of surprises, but my Onix will take your little fur-laden buddy down! GO, ONIX! HE HAS BITE, STAY CLEAR OF HIS MOUTH! USE TACKLE!"
"Moonlight, Sand Attack! Six times!"
"GRSHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" bellowed the massive twenty eight foot pokemon. Moonlight shivered; that thing was huge. How was he supposed to use sand attack? Then, as the massive tower flew at him, it struck him. Moonlight turned around, and kicked up the plume, as usual, and let the Onix fly head first into the sand, as he moved back just enough to dodge the attack. The large Onix slammed face first into the ground, making the sand attack doubly effective, for 10 damage. As the Onix coiled back up again, Moonlight took the chance to get in another Sand attack. By now, the Onix could only see bits and pieces of the battle field, and everything he could see was blurry. Damn sand.
"Okay Moonlight, use tail whip, six times! And stay on your toes, this one's not as blind as the Geodude was!"
"Tackle, again! Don't miss this time!" Brock ordered, not even waiting long enough to let the Onix stand up. As the pokemon recoiled, Moonlight lashed it's midsection with his tail. But, without even recoiling halfway, Onix flung himself at the Eevee. Moonlight laid a third tail whip at the Onix, not expecting the large creature to use tackle while only half up. As a result, the Onix slammed straight into the little Eevee, and crushed him.
"VEEEEEEEEE!" exclaimed the Eevee, as he was taken down to only 20 hit points left. In reaction, he latched his fangs onto the Onix's face, as hard as he could.
"GRSHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" the Onix screamed, as it flipped over onto it's back in pain. Eevee merely jumped away, waiting for Angel's command. Onix was left with 20 hit points.
"Onix, finish it off with a Tackle!"
"Moonlight, use bite until it faints! This is it!"

As both pokemon flew at each other, the victory wasn't so sure for either pokemon. Teeth bared and body flying, the two pokemon collided into each other.
"GRSHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
"Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Both pokemon laid in a knotted mess on the gym floor. Neither were moving.
"Well, it looks like a stale mate..." Brock begun, but Onix's tail begun to move. Angel's heart sank. She'd lost.
"I guess...I guess I'm not good enough yet..." Silence filled the gym, as Angel felt weak. She lost. Blood rushes away from her head as she teetered back and forth, weakly. She lost.
"No, look!" Brock exclaimed. Gary glanced over to the swirly eyed Onix.
"VEEEE!" It was Moonlight, fighting his way out from under the huge pokemon, with naught but a hit point.
"You mean...I won?..." Angel blinked, as Moonlight slinked his way back towards his master.
"I guess you did. That was a close battle, but I was wrong about you. You win. I confer upon you the Pokemon League Boulder Badge."

------------
Yep, that's it! ^.~ For now.
