After Gojyo had left, Sanzo had continued to simply stand there, motionless, as though he couldn’t see or hear a thing. Hakkai was too upset to really be concerned, but after several moments, he began to feel a twinge of worry. He was about to ask Sanzo if he was okay when the monk stirred, abruptly leaving the room, and Hakkai heard the door shut behind him, and the sound of Sanzo heading down the hallway. Somehow he knew that he shouldn’t wait up for Sanzo. The monk wouldn’t be coming back that night.
He nearly jumped out of his skin when Goku moved; he had forgotten the boy was there. Hakkai felt heat burning in him, his head throbbing, anger pounding behind his eyes.
Goku was shifting from foot to foot, an awkward look on his face, as though he had something he wanted to say. “….Hakkai,” he began.
“Go away, Goku.”
At those words, Goku’s eyes narrowed as he immediately forgot what he had been about to say: that he had meant to apologize to Hakkai, to explain that his anger at the sight of Sanzo and Hakkai kissing had gotten the better of him, that he had lied about having sex with Gojyo. “What the hell? You make out with Sanzo and then you’re mad at me?” Too late, he realized that his outburst wasn’t helping. Totally not the point. He opened his mouth to speak, but Hakkai interrupted.
“Go away.” It was very clear that there was no point in arguing with him. Goku didn’t say a word, just left the room and returned to his own.
Hakkai moved slowly, as though underwater, unable to get his body to work any faster. He turned the light off and crawled into bed, not even bothering to take his clothes off. It didn’t matter….he couldn’t get to sleep. The day’s events kept running through his head…..kissing Goku…Gojyo trying to kiss him…Sanzo succeeding in kissing him…..Gojyo having sex with Goku……but most of all, Gojyo’s eyes. The desperate look in his eyes when he tried to talk to Hakkai, to explain his own feelings, and to get Hakkai to explain his. But even more so, the anguished look he had worn right before he left, when Hakkai had said that Gojyo would fuck anyone.
Hakkai felt a wave of remorse go through him. He had never thought of Gojyo as a slut, and he still didn’t. He never should have said that. His body twitched, wanting to get out of bed and go apologize, but his mind refused to let him. If Gojyo was determined to sleep with every other member of their party except him, then Hakkai was certainly not going to apologize for calling him on it. Even if he wasn’t a slut. There was another little wave of guilt, but he shoved it down. He didn’t want to deal with that right now.
As for kissing Sanzo…..he groaned, and pulled the covers over his head. What a mistake that had been. Poor Goku. Earlier this evening he had set out to make the boy feel better and now….he had no idea just how hurt Goku was. And Sanzo himself was clearly rattled from what had happened between Goku and Gojyo. The entire dynamic of the group was changing, and Hakkai didn’t know how they would manage to hold themselves together.
It was a long time before, tossing fitfully, he managed to fall into a very restless sleep.
~*~
Goku woke early, barely having slept. His stomach was churning uneasily. He knew he had to go to Hakkai, to tell him what happened. Luckily, Hakkai was the least violent member of their group. Unluckily, Hakkai was also the scariest. Hakkai may be the calm one, the quiet one, but he also had that edge to him. It was easy to tell that he could snap at any second. You never knew quite what he was capable of.
Still, facing Hakkai was better than facing Sanzo.
Goku headed to the kitchen, but Hakkai wasn’t there. He wasn’t in the living room, either. It was strange, being awake earlier than all of the others. He headed into the bathroom to wash up, and was completely caught by surprise when he saw Gojyo curled up in the bathtub. What the heck is he doing in there? The kappa looked incredibly uncomfortable, face contorted not with pain but with emotion, clearly caught up in unhappy dreams. Goku considered waking him but thought better of it. Gojyo was going to be pissed at him, too. He needed a bit more time before he told Gojyo about what he said.
He returned to the kitchen. For once in his life, he wasn’t hungry. On the contrary, he felt almost as though he would throw up.
He headed into the den, sitting on the couch, knees pulled to his chest, and waited for the others.
~*~
Hakkai woke up to an uncomfortable throbbing in his head, the events of the previous night still fresh in his mind. He shook his head as though it would help dislodge them, but it did nothing but make his head pound even harder. Some tea might help.
He rose, leaving his room, heading towards the kitchen. It was probably a good idea to wash up first. His mouth was dry, his tongue like sandpaper.
Their hotel room was dead silent, and the bathroom door was ajar, so he assumed it empty and headed in, immediately stopping dead. Gojyo was asleep in the tub, clutching his pillow tight, looking as upset as Hakkai had ever seen him.
Hakkai could remember only two occasions upon which he had seen Gojyo sleep in the bathtub. Both times Gojyo had awoken completely embarrassed to discover that he had slept in the tub, face completely red, and immediately left the house, not returning until the next morning, reeking of cheap perfume and stale alcohol. He wasn’t entirely certain why Gojyo slept in the bathtub but it obviously happened when he was upset for some reason.
Hakkai stood there, at a loss for what to do. Gojyo was clearly having bad dreams, and the proper thing to do was to wake him, but he didn’t really wish to get involved. Still….it was the right thing to do. He leaned forwards, a hand reaching to touch Gojyo…..but before he could, Gojyo snapped awake, a noise of fear clawing its way from his throat, and he nearly collided with Hakkai as he shot forward, abruptly sitting up, eyes wide and disoriented.
Hakkai jumped, startled by the sudden movement, too surprised to even say anything for a moment. “Ah….are you all right?”
Gojyo looked up at him, and it took several long moments for him to register that Hakkai was there. He wasn’t sure if he was still dreaming. It seemed highly unlikely that, after last night’s events, Hakkai would be speaking to him. No, it seemed much more likely that he was dreaming. “Um…..yea……m’fine, thanks.”
“….okay.” Hakkai didn’t know what else to say, so he turned and left, without washing up, leaving Gojyo staring after him.
~*~
Gojyo simply sat in the tub, staring at the door that Hakkai had just exited through. Clearly, the man was still mad, and Gojyo had no idea what it was that had set him off. It seemed impossible that it could just be this whole thing with Sanzo. If that was all it was, then there was no explanation for why Hakkai’s anger had suddenly doubled.
He shook his head. He’d have to ask Hakkai later, when the man had had more time to cool off. Then he had an idea: he could ask Goku! Goku had been in the room with Sanzo and Hakkai….maybe the kid knew what it was that the other two men were so damn upset about.
Gojyo rose carefully, stepping out of the tub, and headed towards from the room, pillow in hand. He could hear Hakkai in the kitchen, making tea. He decided to avoid that room, to give Hakkai his space, and instead went into the den. Goku was in there, knees to his chest, arms wrapped tight around himself, hugging his knees close to his body. For some reason, the kid looked horribly upset when he caught sight of Gojyo….almost scared. Shit, please don’t let him be mad at me, too.
“Hey, Goku…what’s up?” Gojyo sat beside him on the couch.
Goku was quite for a moment, clearing his throat. “Ah…..Gojyo? I have something to tell you……but……promise me you won’t kill me?”
“Goku, I’m not gonna kill you. If anything, I should thank you for not killing me. Everyone seems to want to.”
Goku shook his head. “Its about last night.”
Gojyo immediately perked up. “Oh! Do you know what happened last night? Hakkai…” He remembered Hakkai was just in the next room and he lowered his voice, leaning closer. “…Hakkai got so angry. Do you know what set him off?”
“….ah…….yea.” Goku was picking at a string on the couch cushion. “Sanzo, too.”
Gojyo couldn’t really care less about Sanzo. He didn’t know why Sanzo was mad at him, but unless the monk started shooting, he didn’t give a damn what had set him off. “Okay, well…spill.”
Goku was silent for a long time, long enough that Gojyo shifted, frustrated, and was opening his mouth to ask again when the younger man finally spoke up. “I said…….I….well……..I told Hakkai and Sanzo that you and I had sex.”
Gojyo felt like he’d been hit. “WHAT?!”
“I didn’t mean to! I came in the room and they were kissing! I didn’t know what to do! It just sorta came out!”
That was another slap to the face. “…..Hakkai…Hakkai was kissing Sanzo?”
“…….yea.” Goku looked up at Gojyo at last, face completely distressed. “I’m so sorry, Gojyo. I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t. I just….I didn’t know what to say! Sanzo wouldn’t kiss me, but he was kissing Hakkai so easy. I was so mad. I just said the first thing that popped into my head.”
Gojyo was silent for a long moment. He really had no right to be bothered by Hakkai kissing Sanzo. He himself had slept with Sanzo. He wasn’t dating Hakkai. He had no claim on Hakkai. Hakkai could kiss whoever he wanted. But it still hurt. Hakkai wouldn’t kiss him, had pushed him away earlier. Yet for some reason, he would kiss Sanzo.
Gojyo would have thought he and Hakkai had such a strong bond, that their relationship ran so deep, that a romantic relationship would be a natural progression. But it seemed he had completely ruined any chance of that when he had slept with Sanzo. He hadn’t realized what he wanted until it was too late, and now he had lost Hakkai….truly lost him.
“…..Gojyo?” Goku sounded scared. “Gojyo? I’m sorry. I’m really really sorry.”
Gojyo managed to stir from his thoughts, and shook his head. “Its okay, Goku.”
“….y…yea?” Goku sounded hopeful. “Really?”
Gojyo reached over, a tired hand settling on Goku’s head, gently tousling his hair. “Yea. I understand how that must’ve felt to see. I’m surprised you didn’t do anything sooner. I mean…….I’m sorry. I should’ve apologized to you a long time ago. I should never’ve slept with Sanzo, and I really should never have teased you about it. I didn’t realize how strong you felt. You have every right to lash out at me.” He shook his head as Goku opened his mouth to speak. “I know you didn’t do it to hurt me. I’m just saying you could have. I deserve it.”
Goku looked upset. “It’s okay. I really……I don’t know. For some reason, I was always angrier with Sanzo than with you.”
That surprised Gojyo. “Really?”
Goku shrugged. “Yea. I don’t know why. Maybe cuz he’s just so stupid sometimes. He knows how I feel, he just ignores it. You didn’t really realize.”
“….yea. Which makes me stupid, too.”
Goku smiled. “Well, yeah.”
Hakkai chose that moment to enter the room, tea in hand, and Gojyo’s smile immediately vanished. He still had no idea what to do, what to say to Hakkai. He rose from the couch, figuring that he should probably leave the room. Goku grabbed his hand and, surprised, Gojyo looked down at him.
“Don’t worry…..I’m gonna explain.”
Gojyo smiled a small, tired smile. “Thanks.” For some reason, he felt impossibly tired. Everything that was happening was having a huge effect on him. He headed into the kitchen. He could feel Hakkai’s eyes boring into his back, like daggers. The brunette obviously hadn’t liked Goku holding Gojyo’s hand, and the kappa realized then that this explained Hakkai’s glare right as Gojyo left the room last night, after Gojyo had looked at Goku. Hakkai hadn’t liked Gojyo giving Goku any added attention.
Gojyo frowned. But that still didn’t make sense. Why would Hakkai be angry about Goku and Gojyo sleeping together? And about Sanzo and Gojyo? Maybe about Sanzo and Gojyo if he was interested in Sanzo, which might make sense, since he had been making out with Sanzo…….but then again, he had been kissing Goku earlier that day, which might explain the anger when he believed Gojyo had slept with Goku…..
Gojyo shook his head. He was lost. He didn’t understand a thing that was going on…..well, except for Sanzo’s anger. He smiled. Maybe now the priest will finally admit his feelings for Goku.
He sank into a chair by the table, body feeling heavy, and settled his head down on his folded arms, thoroughly exhausted.
~*~
Hakkai’s gaze followed Gojyo as he left, eyes narrowed. He wasn’t feeling so bad anymore about Gojyo’s obvious bad dreams. Goku was occupying the couch, so Hakkai took one of the two empty chairs, sipping his tea, purposefully ignoring Goku.
“….um…..Hakkai?”
“Yes, Goku?” The healer’s voice was calm, level, and very, very cold. Goku swallowed hard, steeling up his nerve.
“I…..I need to tell you something. About Gojyo.”
Hakkai’s shoulders tightened visibly. “Do you.”
“Yea. About last night.” It was clear that Hakkai didn’t want to hear it, and Goku didn’t know if the man was going to stay around to listen, so he rushed into it, the words bursting forth. “GojyoandIdidn’tactuallyhavesex.”
The room was dead silent. “…….what.” The one word was incredibly soft.
“…..Gojyo and I didn’t actually have sex.”
The room was so quiet, Hakkai sitting completely still. Goku could feel stirrings of panic. Maybe it hadn’t been such a great idea to confess to Hakkai first thing in the morning, and especially not before he’d had his tea.
“….why would you say such a thing if it wasn’t true?”
Goku relaxed ever so slightly. It seemed death wasn’t immediately forthcoming. “…..well……I saw you kissing Sanzo……and I got so angry. It just sorta…came out.”
Hakkai softened visibly, some of the tension going out of him, and Goku relaxed further. “Oh, Goku.” His voice was soft. “I’m so sorry about that.”
Goku wasn’t quite ready to accept that apology. Not until he heard an explanation.
“It was a complete mistake. I….I was angry. Very angry with Gojyo. And Sanzo was angry…..I believe with himself. And it just…..well, as you say, it just sort of happened. But I can’t tell you how much I regret it, or how incredibly sorry I am.”
Goku nodded. “Okay. Thanks.” There was a pause as he thought. “…..why’re you so mad at Gojyo? He’s really upset about it, you know.”
“Is he.” Hakkai murmured. He was silent for a moment. “…..I don’t approve of what he did with Sanzo.”
“……isn’t that a little bit hypocritical of you, after what you did last night?”
Hakkai felt a little pang of guilt. “Yes, well, I didn’t have sex with Sanzo, I only kissed him.”
Goku gave Hakkai a look. “Now you’re just splitting hairs. What’re you really upset about?” Hakkai looked away, not answering. “You like him…..don’t you. Gojyo. You like him.”
“I don’t see how that matters.” Hakkai definitely didn’t want to be having this discussion.
“It matters a lot!” Goku was obviously irritated. “I like Sanzo, and he knows, and completely brushes me off. Do you have any idea how that feels?”
Hakkai was silent. He did know how it felt. Not because Gojyo brushed him off, but because Gojyo seemed oblivious to Hakkai’s feelings…which was, in Hakkai’s opinion, just as bad.
“He likes you too, you know.”
Hakkai was startled out of his thoughts, looking up at Goku.
“Gojyo. He likes you. A lot.”
Hakkai felt a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach, perhaps the first stirrings of hope, but he squashed it for the time being. Too much had gone wrong lately for him to start hoping now. Setting his tea on the coffee table, he rose from his chair.
“Thank you for your honesty, Goku. I must go find Gojyo, and apologize to him for my behavior last night.”
Goku smiled at Hakkai, but it wasn’t fully happy. Hakkai could tell that Goku was wishing he could have done more to convince Hakkai of Gojyo’s feelings. But Hakkai just couldn’t bring himself to believe in that yet. He really needed that drink of water now, needed to splash some water on his face.
He shut the bathroom door behind him, splashing his face with cold water, and looked at his reflection in the mirror. Thoughts of Gojyo kept going through his head, of Gojyo’s kisses of the day before. How soft his lips had been, how desperate he had seemed. And yet still he had been gentle.
Hakkai splashed more water on his face. He didn’t know what to think. Maybe Gojyo really did care.
And then another image flashed into his head: the anguished look on Gojyo’s face the night before. Hakkai felt a pang in his chest, and before he even realized it, he was stumbling over himself as he rushed to the kitchen.
Gojyo was still there, seated at the table, head resting on his folded arms, but he looked up when Hakkai entered. He looked tired but surprised when he saw Hakkai, whose face was still wet, his expression one of concern and guilt. He moved to the table, kneeling in front of Gojyo.
“Gojyo, Goku told me what happened last night…..or rather what didn’t happen.” He felt so silly. “I’m sorry. I should never have just assumed. I should have asked you if it was true. I’m so sorry.”
Gojyo shook his head, and, taking Hakkai’s hand, tugged him up. Using his foot, he hooked the leg of the second chair and tugged it out, gently guiding Hakkai to sit in it. “Its okay.”
“No, its not.”
“Yes, ‘kai, it is. It’s not like I’ve been the most reliable friend lately. You had every reason to doubt me.”
Hearing Gojyo just take it all in stride, Hakkai felt even worse. Gojyo’s eyes narrowed, and he pointed one finger at Hakkai.
“And I see that look on your face. You’re taking what I say and just blaming yourself more. Stop it.”
“But…”
“No. Stop it.”
Hakkai fell silent. Gojyo shook his head. “’kai, you’re the only person I know who can be told it isn’t their fault and feel even guiltier after hearing it.”
Hakkai couldn’t help a tiny smile. “……sorry?"
Gojyo swatted his shoulder. “Pain in the ass.” But he was smiling.
Both men fell silent for a long moment. “….’kai? I’m really, really sorry for…well…..everything that’s happened lately. Starting with sleeping with Sanzo. One of the biggest regrets of my life. And that’s saying something. Especially…..I wasn’t thinking of it at the time, but when I met you, I said you’d be the only man I ever brought to my bed…”
Hakkai felt a little tug in his chest hearing Gojyo say that, knowing that Gojyo had remembered that promise.
“….and technically, Sanzo dragged me to his, but even so…..I broke that promise. And it was a stupid, spur of the moment thing, and I’ll never do it again. Never.”
Hakkai was silent. Gojyo watched him nervously, waiting for an answer, waiting to see if Hakkai was angry or upset in any way. Finally, Hakkai opened his mouth.
“…..thank you.”
Gojyo’s ears perked up. “….thank you?” He repeated. Hakkai nodded.
"
That promise….well…..it meant a lot to me. I never really realized it, but it did. I guess I was a little…jealous….when I found out you and Sanzo that morning. Guess I felt like I wasn’t so special.” He smiled, blushing a bit. “Being your roommate for so many years has spoiled me.”
Gojyo had been inflating as Hakkai spoke, thinking each moment ‘he likes me….Hakkai likes me!’ And then came that word at the end….roommate……and he deflated. Maybe it was nothing more than a platonic possessiveness. But he refused to give up hope. He managed a smile, full of his usual bravado, no matter how vulnerable he was feeling right then. “Yea, well, from now on, you’re the only man welcome in my bed…….even if you don’t wanna be there, I’m saving a spot for you.” He knew that, with a single word, Hakkai could break his heart….his heart, which was currently beating a mile a minute.
Little did he know that Hakkai’s heart was doing the same, pounding away as Gojyo spoke those words. Somehow, Hakkai managed to control himself, though he couldn’t quite stop the blush that crept to his cheeks. “I appreciate that,” he said, voice softer than he would have liked. “I’ll definitely hold you to it.”
Oh, God. Gojyo thought he might pass out. It wasn’t a confirmation of anything at all, no declaration of love; it could have been nothing more than a joke shared between friends. But Gojyo could hope. And damn, did Hakkai look fucking sexy with that blush.
“No one but you,” Gojyo said, and he truly meant it. This entire horrible week had made him realize it….sleeping with Sanzo, almost losing Hakkai…….it had taken all of this trouble and pain to make him understand that, male or female, he wanted no one but Hakkai.
Hakkai still had that lovely blush on his cheeks, and it took all of Gojyo’s willpower not to reach out and touch his cheek. Fortunately, he was interrupted by a loud banging. Then he realized what the noise was and his heart sank. Sanzo.
The monk had just banged the front door open, slamming it shut behind him. He was making no effort to hide the fact that he was upset. “……I should go talk to him,” Gojyo said quietly. It was the last thing he wanted to do. He honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Sanzo shot him for real this time. The monk fired enough shots at him on a day to day basis, and never for a reason like this. This time, the bullet would probably find his head. He rose from his chair, heading to the door.
“Gojyo, I don’t know if that’s such a good idea…maybe I should go first…”
But before anything else could be said, the door to the kitchen swung open, and Gojyo came face to face with Sanzo. The blonde stopped dead, and the look he gave Gojyo full of absolute hatred. Gojyo saw Sanzo’s hand move, slipping to his gun. Oh God.
“Sanzo. Sanzo, listen to me…” he rushed, trying to get the words out before Sanzo could shoot him.
“Shut…the fuck..up. I don’t want to hear a word you say.” Sanzo hissed the words between his teeth, and the gun was out, and Gojyo was now positive that yea, he was gonna die.
“Sanzo!” Goku came bursting into the room, and the gun wavered in Sanzo’s hand. “Sanzo, wait!” He grabbed Sanzo’s arm, bringing it down, the gun no longer aimed at Gojyo, who sighed in relief. He really hadn’t wanted to die. He didn’t in general, but especially not now that Hakkai had forgiven him.
“Sanzo, its not true. I didn’t….” Now that he had Sanzo’s full attention, Goku seemed to be having extreme difficulty getting the words out. He couldn’t look Sanzo in the eye, and his face was flushed red. “……I didn’t have sex with Gojyo.”
Sanzo stared at Goku, uncomprehending. “…….what,” he said at last.
“……we didn’t have sex.”
There was a long silence. Sanzo looked at Gojyo, who nodded, and then back at Goku. “………..why would you tell me you did?”
Goku was obviously upset, so very upset, utterly silent, unwilling to answer.
“Why would you tell me that you did?” Sanzo repeated, tone stronger now, demanding, and Goku seemed to snap.
“You were kissing Hakkai!” The words burst forth…he glared at Sanzo, who looked completely taken aback. Seeing that reaction, Goku’s anger seemed to fade, as quickly as it had come, and he looked away again. “….I didn’t like it. I said the first thing that came to mind.”
Sanzo gazed at Goku, silent, thinking. After several long moments, he turned and left the room. Goku’s head snapped up, eyes wide as he watched Sanzo leave.
“Sanzo!” But the monk didn’t turn, simply went into his bedroom and shut the door behind him. Goku turned to Hakkai and Gojyo, face stricken. Gojyo moved to him.
“Don’t worry about it, kid. Just give him a bit of time. It’s a lot to take in. And, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but…….he’s kind of an asshole.”
Goku laughed, which was exactly what Gojyo had been aiming for, and he smiled, happy to see the kid relaxing. He gave Goku’s hair a tug, eliciting a “hey!”
“Don’t worry. He’ll come around.”
~*~
Sanzo sat motionless on the edge of the bed, trying to take in all of Goku’s words. It was perfectly clear now: Goku cared for him. He had suspected it for some time now, and the events of yesterday had seemed to confirm it, but he couldn’t deny it any longer. Goku cared for Sanzo, and far worse than that, Sanzo knew now that he cared for Goku.
For years Sanzo had been lying to himself, telling himself that Goku was no more than an annoyance, and then, when he could no longer deny that he cared for Goku, he told himself that it was nothing more than the feelings that one has for a younger brother or some other relative. He had called Goku “monkey” and told himself that Goku was nothing more than an irritating kid, because it made it easier to place Goku in a category that was out of bounds, off limits. But now he knew that Hakkai had been right last night. Goku was no longer a child, and Sanzo truly had feelings for him, feelings that went far beyond those for a little brother. Feelings of love.
The word made him intensely uncomfortable and he shook his head hard, trying to get it out of his mind. Maybe a drink would help. It was early in the day for liquor….far too early. He had been in his room for several hours now, but it was still only about three in the afternoon. Still, some sake might calm his nerves. He thought they might have some.
The rooms were incredibly quiet. He looked around him as he entered the kitchen. Hakkai was sitting at the table, almost as if he were waiting for Sanzo. The monk felt an air of irritation. He ignored the man, moving instead to look through the food supplies that Hakkai had laid out. There….sake.
“Sanzo, I know you’re upset.”
Of course, Hakkai had to speak. Either of the others would know to leave the situation alone. Oh, they’d speak, but it would be something stupid and pointless. Hakkai always had to belabor the point.
“It’s not a good situation for any of us. But the three of us have been talking, and trying to think of a way to move past this.
“I find that ignoring it usually works.” Sanzo poured a large glass of sake, far larger than was advisable.
“…..Sanzo, I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Sanzo wasn’t sure what Hakkai meant, Sanzo’s suggestion or the glass of sake.
Gojyo and Goku took that moment to enter the room….loudly roughhousing and laughing. Sanzo felt a pang of irritation to see that they had so easily overcome all that had happened. They stopped their antics when they saw Sanzo. A full range of emotions passed over Goku’s face, though it was mainly happiness and apprehension.
“….hi, Sanzo,” the boy said timidly. Sanzo grunted a noncommittal noise, taking a sip of sake.
“So….Sanzo,” Gojyo seemed to have gotten over the fear that Sanzo would shoot him. He seemed much more at ease now. “We’ve been talking.”
“So Hakkai says.”
“I was thinking…” The kappa continued almost as though Sanzo hadn’t spoken at all. “And I think the best idea to resolve all this….tension…..is to go drinking.”
Sanzo stared at Gojyo. “….you’re suggesting that we go to a bar?”
“Yup.” Gojyo was leaning on a chair, hands on the chair back. “Getting drunk loosens the tongue. Best way I know to work through problems.”
Sanzo was silent. He wasn’t sure what to say. On the one hand, he was as much to blame as Gojyo for all that had happened. If they hadn’t had sex, none of this would have happened. Though he had then gotten involved with Goku, so maybe that put him more in the wrong? And where did Hakkai fall in all this, for his encounter with Goku? Everything was all mixed up. Maybe Gojyo had something here.
He realized everyone was still waiting for his answer. He was about to say no, not wanting to give Gojyo the satisfaction of being right, when he saw the look on Goku’s face. It was one of hope, of excitement, almost pleading. Sanzo had always been able to say ‘no’ to that face, though he’d wanted to give in. Now, though, it was different. Now seemed like a good time to start giving Goku what he wanted.
“….okay.”
Gojyo let out a little whoop. Hakkai smiled.
“But I better not regret this.” But Sanzo saw Goku, the smile that lit up his face, and he didn’t think that was possible.
“Don’t worry….you won’t.” Gojyo turned to Hakkai, smiling. “I’m gonna get you drunk tonight.”
Hakkai smiled back. “Oh? You think so? No one’s managed it yet.”
“Oh, don’t worry. I will.” Gojyo’s smile had taken on an edge, wicked and predatory and, yes, there was no denying it…seductive. Hakkai blushed crimson, gaze going to the floor.
“Well…..we’ll have to see.” And he couldn’t resist, eyes returning to that smile, red eyes meeting green, and he knew he was in trouble.
Gojyo’s smile grew as Hakkai returned his gaze, the brunette blushing even as his resolve seemed to grow.
One way or another, Gojyo thought, we are in for one hell of a night.
