Author's Note: I told you I would write that Femslash story about May and Dawn. If you were paying more attention in Chapter 3 you would know that. Anyway, just consider this a stand alone prequel to the events of the previous chapters. Enjoy!

May was not happy.

"May?"

No, that wasn't right.

"May?"

May was furious.

"May?"
"What Dawn?!" May yelled back.
"Are you sure this is the way to Lavender Town?" Dawn asked.
"Why are you asking me?" May responded incredulously.
"Well you've been to Kanto before."

"Well yeah, I thought it was, but I just lost my bearings a bit. We'll get back on track once we hit the main road." Dawn said cheerfully.
"And how long do you think that will take?" May retorted.
"Well..." Dawn took a good hard look around at their current predicament. They were walking around on a mountain in the middle of a rather nasty snowstorm. "I'll definitely know better once the snow stops."
"Argh!" May screamed as she threw her hands up in frustration. "I knew I shouldn't have let you navigate! This always happens!"May was definitely having a hard time since see had joined up with Dawn.
During the Sinnoh Grand Festival May ran into Ash's former traveling companion again. It was stiff competition and both were defeated before they got to the final round, or got a chance to compete against one another. Still, despite their loss, the two were delighted to be able to enjoy the rest of the festival together. Afterwards they realized they were both headed to Kanto and decided it would be a good idea to travel together. At least May 'thought' it would be a good idea.
"Well, good thing I packed some warm clothing for the occasion." Dawn said, looking on the bright side. Dawn always managed to pack extra clothing for emergencies and was prepared as soon as the storm started up. She was covered in a big fluffy parka, nice and warm even in such extreme weather. "Oops! Sorry..." Dawn said with a remorseful smile.
"Its fine. Its not too cold." May lied. "Lets just get to the road before the snow gets worse."
"Its not to bad right now. Just some flurries."
"Yeah, but I don't like the looks of those storm clouds."
The two coordinators tried to push on despite the weather, but soon enough May's prediction became true. The winds blew and the snow covered the sky. Soon the snow became so bad that they could barely see in front of their own faces. May finally was unable to see Dawn in front of her and realized their quest had become futile.
"Dawn! I don't think we're gonna make anymore headway today. We should try to find a cave and settle down for the night." No response came from her fellow Pokémon Coordinator.
"Dawn!" No response again. May rushed forward scared. Not seeing where she was going, she tripped over something in the snow and fell face first on the ground. She turned around to see it was Dawn, also lying face down in the snow. Despite her heavy jacket, she was not used to the harsh climate.
"Dawn! Are you okay?" May asked in a panic.
"I don't think I can walk anymore May..." Dawn said, weak from the cold.
"Don't worry. I'll help. Go Glaceon!" May threw her Pokeball and released her Glaceon. Most would question how an ice Pokémon would help to warm someone up in the middle of a snow storm, but May knew what she was doing.
"Glaceon use your ice beam to form an igloo!" Glaceon shot a stream of ice from its mouth towards the ground around May and Dawn. It circled around with its beam, building up the ice as it went. With each layer of ice the wall grew taller around them until it formed together above them, entrapping the two in a glorious dome of ice. The two were finally saved from the constant barrage of ice and snow. May pulled out a flashlight allowing them to see one another.
"Good work Glaceon. Now dig outside and reinforce it. When your done, dig back in." May commanded. Glaceon nodded affirmatively and dug underground, ready to complete its task.
"Wow. How'd you do that?" Dawn asked impressed by Glaceon's building skill.
"I've been practicing with Glaceon. We were gonna surprise you with it in the next Contest."
"Sorry to ruin the surprise."
"It's not important." May shrugged off. "Are you okay?" She asked to her friend still lying in the snow.
"Yeah, I think I'll be fine. Hey, do you think you can get your Blaziken to start us a fire?" Dawn asked hopefully.
"I would, but right now this igloo is the only thing protecting us from that storm. And a large fire Pokémon would most likely melt it." May said despondently.
"Its okay, we'll be fine. We just gotta ride it out." Dawn said with a positive voice, life returning to her.
"You say it as if we have a choice." May said with a sigh. At that moment May's Glaceon returned with its job complete. "Good job Glaceon! Return." With that the Pokeball reabsorbed the Glaceon back. May sat down and hugged herself to try and stay warm while Dawn took a moment to stretch her legs and walk within the confined area.
"Look, its fine. Once the storm clears up I'll lead us back to the road in no time." Dawn said as she walked around the small enclosure.
"Yeah you said that earlier." May said, staring up angrily from her seat.
"Hey, you were the one who said I should be navigator!" Dawn cried in response to May's statement.
"Yeah, because you said you knew where you were going!" May cried back.
"I did! I just- I- sorta- well-..." Dawn trailed off unable to explain herself.
"See! You always say you know what you're doing! Then when you finally realize you're wrong, you can't admit it!" As May explained her faults, Dawn stood there with tears forming in her eyes. Not tears of sadness, but of anger towards her friend's biting comments.
"Well, if you feel that way, maybe we should stop traveling together!" Dawn screamed to May.
"Maybe we should!" May cried back. Dawn looked at her in shock. She was just being dramatic when she had said that, she didn't think May would actually feel the same way. More tears built in Dawn's eyes, but those of sadness now, hurt by her friend.
"Well... then... fine!" Dawn said. Even as she spoke the words, her mind cried out 'What are you doing? Just apologize you idiot! Don't make May any madder!'. But her pride would not allow it.
"Fine!" May said in a huff as she turned her back to Dawn. Dawn followed suit, turning around and sitting on the other side of the cave. Despite their impassioned words, they were still stuck and forced to be within a rather confining area. They still tried their best to not pay any attention to each other. May shut off her flashlight so she wouldn't have to look at Dawn anymore. Dawn simply retreated into her parka like a turtle into its shell.
The two sat there in silence as the storm outside grew worse and worse. By nightfall it was still going strong and May's clothes were not helping her maintain heat. After her fall in the snow she became covered in snow which melted, making her colder. Her teeth chattered as she tried to keep warm by hugging herself. Alas, it was all in vain. Dawn could hear her friend in distress and knew deep that it was all her fault. She couldn't admit it but she knew she was responsible.
"You okay over there?" Dawn asked, trying to be helpful.
"What do you care?" May said gruffly.
"I'm just trying to help!" Dawn said in a worried tone. May remained stoic.
"...I'm fine."
"No you're not! You're freezing. I can hear you over here." Dawn replied.
"Yeah, well..." May trailed off. Dawn grew more despondent as May continued her petulant stance of indifference. She tried to appeal to May by using a more gentle tone.
"Do you want some of my extra clothes?" Dawn asked.
"No. You don't have anything warm in there anyway, just some silly costumes."
"Hey, they're not silly! They're functional!" Dawn said, angered by the accusation.
"Not right now." May said, still without any
Dawn puffed her cheeks out angrily and turned her head. But her momentary anger was no enough to make her feel better about how May was suffering. As she cooled off, her concern grew and she quickly began looking through her bag for any warm clothing she might have. May looked on in stunned silence as Dawn took off her coat and threw it to May, refusing to take no for an answer. "I don't care if you still hate me, but I just don't want you to get hurt anymore. Now, just try to stay warm." With that Dawn went to sit back down on her side of the igloo.
May looked over at Dawn as she sat there sadly. She was still mad, but she was touched by Dawn's selflessness and willingness to take blame. She got up and grabbed the coat, walking over towards Dawn. She sat down right next to her and draped the coat over them.

May only let out a dismayed sigh. Things had suddenly got a lot more complicated.
