"What the hell are you doing?" Atobe snarled at Shishido and shoved Ohtori away from him.
After being so close, the distance that was forcibly created between them by the Vice-Captain felt physically painful. Shishido wanted everything back to how it was just a moment before. He wanted Ohtori in his arms, enjoying kissing him, and almost ready to tell him everything. A moment before Shishido felt as if he had almost everything he had always wanted in his arms and nearly in his grasp.
To have all that suddenly ripped away again left Shishido feeling very disappointed and very angry. He had as much rage coursing through him as it looked like Atobe was feeling. At the last second, Shishido just barely was able to hold himself back from shoving Atobe back in fury and frustration for interfering again.
What stopped Shishido was at first the realization that Atobe could not only throw both he and Ohtori off the tennis team, but he could have them thrown out of school as well. It wasn't just the power the Vice-Capitan had which alone was formidable, it was the compromising position the Vice-Captain had discovered them in. If Atobe really wanted to, he could have them both expelled for homosexual activity or even worse, the Vice-Captain could publicly have them shunned as an example until they slinked off on their own. No one had been shunned in nearly fifty years, but Shishido clearly saw--Atobe was that enraged. And he sneered at Shishido.
Not that he had any right to be angry at all. Shishido had really done nothing wrong except move on. It made Shishido furious that Atobe still had power over him. Over both of them. It made him want to knock that smug sneer of a smile off Atobe's face. What stopped Shishido from actually punching him though was the naked look of hurt and pain that flashed in Atobe's eyes. He looked crushed. Totally devastated behind his thin veneer of pure anger. Both emotions at the same time were fighting to break through the Vice-Captain's normally unflappable composure.
It seemed to be the anger that was the one that was coming through however. Atobe who was usually so in control was visibly shaking with emotion, probably rage Shishido guessed, made worse by how deeply hurt he apparently really was. The Vice-Captain's face was flushed and his usual soft lips were set in a thin white pressed line that turned quickly into another snarl as Atobe must have seen Shishido could read his emotions clearly.
Shishido knew right then, if he said or did the wrong thing, one small wrong move, he could probably even make perfect Atobe crack and cry. Of course he would pay for it brutally later if he did--both he and Ohtori would. While there was no way Shishido would risk Ohtori's future for a moment's satisfaction of seeing Atobe's perfection crack and his composure crumble, it was tempting to be sure. Tempting and fascinating because when Shishido searched in his heart, he discovered he felt nearly nothing in return for his ex-lover.
He had once heard a saying that the opposite of love was not hate, it was apathy. Shishido for the first time understood that clearly. The opposite of love is when you don't really feel anything anymore. Hate takes effort to nurture and maintain, much like love does, but apathy is all you feel when you've truly moved on. He liked Atobe as a person, respected him as a good leader and stellar tennis player, but even the thought of being with him again was impossible. He had really moved on.
Shishido realized he was staring at the Vice-Captain in surprise as he discovered this. Shishido's anger was still there, but all he felt at the moment was alarm and confusion at how to get the two of them the hell out of this. Atobe stared back at him. Their eyes locked and held for a long moment but as usual neither he nor Atobe knew what the hell to say to the other. It reminded him again how completely unlike how things were with him and Ohtori.
With Ohtori, it always felt so easy and comfortable--so effortless to be with him and make him smile. So easy to talk most of the time about almost everything. There was no battle for control, no fight for position or dominance. No struggle to break the other and make him come crawling to you in need. All Shishido wanted to do was support and nurture Ohtori. To bring out the best in him and make him happy. To love him.
All he had wanted to do with the Vice-Captain most of the time was get through the day. To survive. He had not been happy and it had been a sad relationship. Shishido only saw that now with hindsight being perfect vision as he stood with the Ohtori and Atobe both staring at Shishido as if demanding he make a choice right then and there. Shishido knew who he would choose without hesitation. The problem was, he didn't want that person hurt by his choice when the other reacted badly. So they all stood ridiculously as the clock in the room ticked away the time. Atobe and Ohtori stared at him and Shishido stared back at Atobe too stunned by what was going on and his revelations to make any move.
It was Ohtori surprisingly who saved them. The gray-haired teen said alarmed, "A...Atobe-san!" Shishido turned and could see Ohtori even in the dim light was blushing crimson. He felt terrible recalling how Ohtori didn't even like when Shishido had mentioned the Vice-Captain's name, and decided he had to find some way to let the freshman know there was only one person he was interested at all in. As soon as possible. As soon as they got out of this mess.
Ohtori said, "Oh god! I...I'm so sorry Shishido-san. Please don't be mad Atobe-san. I...I made Shishido-san help me." Atobe slowly turned to watch hatefully at Ohtori as he stammered. Shishido hated Atobe a little right then for allowing this to continue. Ohtori said, "I just...I just didn't know what to do..." The freshman's voice cracked and Shishido worried again for the strain the freshman was visibly feeling. He could not afford to break in front of Atobe, even if the Vice-Captain was the cause of his latest stress. Shishido felt his anger rising again, as Ohtori said, "Please, I begged him to help me!"
Shishido felt even more protective of him but knew he was still too angry to rationally act. He wrestled with his temper for control but before he could respond Atobe asked Ohtori, in a tone of voice so furious it was as if he was smoldering. Snarling he said, "Help...you...what?"
Shishido had no idea where Ohtori was going with this. He almost interrupted, but Ohtori for all his stammering, seemed confident at the same time. "The party tonight...it's the first party I've ever gone to...like that...and..." Ohtori looked Atobe right in the eye and to Shishido's shock convincingly lied to him. "Atobe-san, I asked him about the party. He told me what happens at them, and I begged him to help me. I...I know it was wrong but..in...in my whole life I've only kissed two people. One person not very good a few times and a girl just this one time...and Shishido-san just now...he was just showing me how."
Atobe smiled. He suddenly smiled very dangerously. He was not amused at being seen so shaken, and was looking for revenge. Like a cat playing with its food before he killed it. Shishido knew he was up to something. Atobe turned from looking at Ohtori to Shishido and smoothed some of Shishido's hair off his shoulder in a very possessive move. Atobe was in essence was claiming Shishido as his pet by tightening the choke chain on the leash that once bound them together, "You were just teaching the kid how to kiss? What a good big brother," he said sarcastically.
Shishido shrugged to try to buy time. He had no idea what to do. One wrong move or word and they were both out of school, but at the same time, if he knew it was just him that would be punished, and not Ohtori he would have reacted by now. He waited for his chance to just get Ohtori out of there. He would say anything, do anything, even go back to Atobe just to protect Ohtori right now. Although the thought of it made Shishido now feel nothing but sick, Ohtori being thrown out of school for a homosexual incident would devastate him and probably Choutarou's family too. Shishido's mind worked frantically to figure out where Atobe would go with this. There would be a test. A loyalty test. Atobe loved those.
If only Shishido could figure out Atobe's next move and head it off.
Atobe turned back to Ohtori, but still held on to Shishido possessively, "You should have asked me. You know, Shishido came to me last year wanting to know the very same thing. So I taught Shishido everything he knows. I am the best. Would you like ore-sama to show you how, Ohtori?" It really was not a question. It was basically a truth test to see how much Ohtori could take and how far Shishido would let this go at the same time. Atobe was playing truth or dare and his dare would determine in his mind the truth as he saw it. Atobe was playing judge and jury and the cost was Ohtori's future because Atobe had to know Shishido would care less about his own than the freshman's.
Shishido prayed Atobe didn't kiss him in front of Ohtori because the freshman would be very upset. In fact, Ohtori probably would put a stop to it, and then he prayed that Ohtori didn't get too upset no matter what happened next. Shishido was tempted, very tempted to stop this now, if only he could think of some way to settle this where everyone was happy. Or where they just got away.
Ohtori surprisingly said again before Shishido did anything, "Oh...o...okay Atobe-san, if...if it isn't too much trouble. But I...I'm not very good though, right Shishido-senpai?"
Despite Atobe glaring suspiciously at him, Ohtori was finding a way to tell Shishido it was okay. He was all right, and that he would get them through this. Shishido had a sudden sense that Ohtori was used to getting out of trouble, probably used to frequently getting both himself and his dead best friend out of trouble. He was in awe of the freshman in a situation like this even just finding the courage to speak, but maybe it was just that Ohtori didn't realize the consequences if his plan failed. He was asking Shishido to trust him. Or maybe to have a little faith in him.
Atobe underestimated the strong freshman. Shishido knew this was true when Atobe smiled wickedly at Shishido as if he had already won. The Vice-Captain was looking for a trace of hurt or jealousy or any show of emotion on Shishido's face as he said, "You'll stay of course Ryoh to supervise my instructing your little brother in the proper techniques. You remember how well I teach?" It was an implied threat of doing whatever he wanted to Ohtori while Shishido stood by and witnessed helplessly. It was a threat that made Shishido remember every compromising and shameful thing Atobe had ever made him do and he resented him for it.
Shishido inwardly groaned and cursed. He thought frantically of some way--any way--to get Ohtori out of this safe and sound. Even if it cost Shishido huge. This was after all his fault. Shishido cursed himself for allowing any of this to happen when Atobe was around. Essentially, Shishido stuck the two of them in this situation. He knew better damn it! He let his emotions cloud his judgment and now they could both pay dearly.
He also cursed his heart that was racing, and his blood that was boiling with pure jealously. Ohtori kissing anyone else was the last thing Shishido really wanted to see, but his specifically Atobe kissing Ohtori was about ten steps farther from the last thing. He had no idea how the hell he could watch this and not end up punching Atobe out. It didn't matter that it meant nothing or that Ohtori was doing this because Shishido failed to protect him, he didn't want Atobe laying a finger on the freshman, let alone his lips. Shishido took a breath and shrugged as he usually did when he didn't know what the hell to do. Luckily for him, he also did this when he didn't care at all.
"Of course." Shishido kept his voice and his face carefully neutral only because he was very practiced. He tried to look bored. He didn't know what to say to reassure his little brother so instead he lamely heard himself say to Ohtori, "Remember what I taught you." What he silently vowed to Ohtori was to never let this happen again, and to protect him from now on.
Ohtori got a comically serious look on his face and said, "Yes, Shishido-senpai." Senpai. To comfort Shishido. It did not help the burn of jealousy though. The freshman turned to Atobe and said, "I'm ready Atobe-san."
Atobe paused, and made his little noise that Shishido knew signified he was annoyed. Clearly, he had expected Shishido to put a stop to this but was now committed so Atobe calmly said, "The first time I'll kiss you. I'll lead, and you can kiss me back. Put your hands here because I'd be a girl and you may as well get that right from the start." Atobe placed Ohtori's hands on his hips. They had been around Shishido as a lover's would, not as a first kiss he realized. That alone was fairly damning evidence, but there was hope. Atobe always believed what he wanted to no matter what he saw. The Vice-Captain's ego would settle for nothing less.
Atobe looked suspiciously at Ohtori, "No you certainly are not. What did Ryoh tell you to do?"
Ohtori must have noticed his act had gone too far because he instantly turned his demeanor down into something more appropriate and obedient. "Ah...Shishido-senpai said to relax. He said to breathe through my nose. To not...to not kiss so hard since I'll be kissing a girl. To not move my tongue in a circle all the time, and to...to not kiss so sloppy." It all sounded so plausible that suddenly Shishido had to keep himself from laughing out loud in astonishment at how damn fast the kid came up with that. Was Ohtori saying subtly that Shishido didn't kiss very well?
He dismissed the thought. Choutarou's actions spoke volumes. Shishido was just being paranoid. And very jealous. Atobe kissed very well. At the party, Ohtori would be kissing a lot of other people. It was stupid to be jealous when he felt so secure in them, but he was completely jealous. And even more stupid, Shishido to himself hoped Ohtori preferred him. Over everyone.
Still as stupid as he knew it was, Shishido had the urge to rip them apart now as Atobe leaned up and brushed his lips softly against Ohtori's in a first kiss move. "You're too tall, lean down Ohtori. Girls will be shorter than you." Atobe said and Shishido had a suspicion that Ohtori was standing up too straight in his small way of resisting. Shishido remembered how naturally the two of them fit together and he was a bit shorter than Atobe. Ohtori's eyes were open and watching Shishido as he and Atobe began to kiss. Shishido saw and heard the kiss turn wetter between the two. He saw a flash of tongues and another surge of jealous rage ran through him.
He was lividly jealous and felt his eye contact with Ohtori was the only thing keeping him from lashing out and stopping this. To hell with the consequences, and to hell with Atobe's ridiculous feelings. Shishido was going to move when Atobe did first. He prayed this was over to any gods that didn't already hate him.
They apparently weren't listening because all that happened was Atobe pulled back and said, "Now close your eyes. And kiss softer, not so hard and not so wet this time. Kissing is a sensual experience of pleasure."
"Yes, Atobe-san." Ohtori said softly and moved to kiss Atobe first this time. Shishido jealously wondered if the freshman was hard and was annoyed at himself for being so hard. He was disgusted with his own body being turned on and betraying him too. True he had spent most of the last day constantly in Ohtori's arms kissing, talking, or sleeping next to each other. Shishido had been hard most of that time with no relief and acutely felt the ache now as a dull pain. He knew it was that way from earlier, but now he was hard to the point of throbbing just from watching the two of them kiss. They were seriously kissing as he stood right there watching.
He reasoned to himself that he knew Ohtori kissed perfectly, hell better than Atobe and he didn't need any lessons. If he had been too hard and wet it when they kissed, then it was part of Choutarou's act. Hell, Shishido had to admit to himself he was only kissing Ohtori earlier mostly because he had wanted to more than he had truly wanted to show him how. To his complete annoyance, Ohtori gave a small, contented, little sigh as he and his Vice-Captain continued to kiss. One Shishido had not heard him make with him--ever.
At the noise, Atobe pulled back. "See? Kissing is simple, and fun, and sexy. Nothing to be nervous about." With his arms still around Ohtori's neck, Atobe asked with a wicked grin, "Ryoh, do you want to kiss him again to see how much he has improved with me?"
Shishido shrugged as if he didn't care and asked Ohtori, "Do you feel more comfortable now?" All he wanted was to get the freshman free and away.
"Ah...I...I think so. Was...was that okay, Atobe-san?" Ohtori asked it as if he really wanted to kiss Atobe again. And not Shishido.
Shishido almost cursed out loud knowing how much Atobe's ego would like that. He suspected Ohtori did too, but Ohtori didn't know Atobe like Shishido did. Ohtori didn't know how actually completely infuriated and dangerous Atobe was right now.
Atobe smiled confidently, "It was better. You just need to practice. Perhaps you need to kiss your senpai more just to be sure though? I can watch and make sure the two of you kiss properly." Atobe turned to Shishido, "It's just a little kiss, and it's not like you both haven't kissed, or that I haven't seen it. Why don't you Shishido? I'd like to hear your opinion on his progress."
"You already saw." Shishido had to keep from growling at him. He had a sudden realization that Ohtori probably wanted to kiss him in front of Atobe to in a way claim him, but Ohtori had no idea how dangerous an angry and jealous Atobe could be. Shishido had to protect him. One wrong move and they would both be out of school with a huge black mark on each of their permanent records. "Hell, he's doubled the number of people he's kissed in one day and by tonight after the party he'll be an expert. I'm sure he's fine. Everyone's got to learn sometime."
Sliding his hand down Ohtori's strong chest and keeping his other arm around his neck, Atobe purred at Shishido, "Are you sure you don't want to play Ryoh? Ohtori is quite willing, aren't you?" He turned to Ohtori, "And you don't mind another lesson from your senpai sponsor, do you?" He looked like he was going to kiss Ohtori again and to Shishido's complete disgust Ohtori looked back at Atobe as if lost in a combination of lust and awe as he moved closer to Atobe's lips with his own. "Ohtori?" Atobe said softly before their lips connected.
"Yes Atobe-san?" Ohtori said in nearly a sigh as he closed his eyes. Shishido wanted to smack him out of this. Hell he wanted to smack them both.
"Go to practice." Atobe gently ordered and he stepped back.
Ohtori's eyes fluttered open and he looked confused at Atobe as if he had spoken to him in a foreign language, "Practice?"
"Yes. Practice. Now." Atobe let him go and it looked like Ohtori almost fell forward from the sudden space. He looked lost and dizzy with lust. Shishido was furious again at how terrible Atobe was treating him merely because he was jealous. "Ryoh stay around a moment, there is something I need to discuss with you."
Shishido shrugged. "Okay." He saw Ohtori looking at him as if he wanted to ask Shishido if he needed help. Or if he should stick around. Or maybe he didn't want to leave the two of them alone together. All Shishido wanted was him out of the room and safe. He glared at Ohtori and said sounding colder than he intended, "Was there something else?"
Ohtori looked at him shocked as if Shishido had just broken his heart. He turned again deeply red and stammered out a nearly whispered, "N..no Shishido-san. S...sorry...ex...excuse me please..." Shishido heard the san instead of the senpai and knew he had somehow done something wrong to deeply hurt the freshman, but Ohtori simply did not know how perilous the situation was. He had more than done his part and now it was Shishido's turn to placate their spoiled, splenetic, and still snarling Vice-Captain. Ohtori deeply bowed and thanked both of them again.
Shishido hoped he had the chance later to straighten things out with him soon.
Right now he had to work on Atobe Keigo.
"Yes what?" Shishido asked sounding less annoyed than he really felt.
Atobe pushed him back up against the wall. In a growl he said, "So I guess things at home are going well?" The Vice-Captain tried to force Shishido to meet his eyes and moved closer when Shishido refused. "A little too well if it's spilling over into the clubhouse?" Atobe moved centimeters from him and Shishido suddenly knew Keigo was going to kiss him. He hoped like hell Ohtori wasn't at the door watching them. In sheer frustration Atobe grabbed Shishido's chin and forced him to meet his stare. Atobe really was furious. Shishido tried to keep his expression neutral and if anything look bored while his heart pounded in time with his earlier erection. "You will tell me right now, Ryoh."
"Tell you what?" Shishido asked trying to continue to sound nonplussed. He heard himself sound annoyed. Annoyed was good. He tried to casually pull away from the grip on his chin and the stare.
Atobe would not let him go. His grip was like iron and the heat coming off him from being so enraged and Shishido saw turned on at the same time blazed hot like a furnace blast. Shishido realized it was a damn good thing he didn't kiss Ohtori again when Atobe ordered him to. It would have only added gasoline to the jealous raging fire Atobe had worked himself up into. "Tell me what I walked in on of course. Or do you honestly expect me to believe that weak story?" Atobe gave a small laugh but it was his fake one he only used when he thought he had caught someone in a lie. "Teaching him to kiss?"
"What you saw Keigo is exactly as the kid described. He worked himself up into a panic over the party and wasn't going to go. On the way over, I pointed out that he has to show up because its his little sister. Its his duty as it is mine to attend. He got upset. I took him in here so no one would see. I found out what he was so bothered over and tried to correct it. There is nothing else. What the hell else could there possibly be?" Shishido saw Atobe looking skeptically at him and rolled his eyes in response. "Seriously Keigo, I'm worried about you. You're starting to get paranoid as your time to becoming our Captain comes closer. Pretty soon you'll start seeing conspiracies everywhere and people out to get you from every corner if you aren't more care..."
Atobe went to kiss him. Shishido took the moment that Atobe was moving and used that momentum to push the Vice-Captain away. Furious and he had to admit a little scared now Shishido asked, "What the hell do you think you're doing?" He wasn't sure why he was so angry and so suddenly afraid. True, Atobe could take them both down and Shishido did not want Ohtori hurt for anything in the world. But this was more than that. It was an old hurt that suddenly bubbled up to the surface at the wrong time and exploded out of his mouth before he could use his head to censor it, "What? Did you want to rape me again? Unless you drug me again before, I'm not going to just let you this time!"
Atobe who was again pressed up against him took a step back as if Shishido had physically punched him. A moment later he had one arm around Shishido and the other in his hair. Atobe uncharacteristically stammered out, "Ryoh, I never..."
Something about Atobe not letting him go when he said he would made Shishido again feel that rush of anger. And Atobe lying about what happened made him furious. Coldly he said, "Yes. You did. Even if you want to argue about all the other times, at least agree with me how the first one was. I was there, remember? I was so drugged I couldn't move and you wouldn't stop and..."
