In a red haze, Riki could see the men being crushed under his boot, could taste the sweetness of their fear as they thought to take him down. But even as Riki delighted in fight, the little hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and a chill swept through his body. The beast within him trembled even as his fists continued to fly.
The animal he’d released knew—just as he did—that Iason was in the same room as he. However, encouraged by the cheering of the children, Riki kept swinging away, determined to get to the bastard who uses to beat him as a child. Nothing mattered but getting to that asshole, and snapping his neck.
Riki remembered every slash, every cruel word, every kick to his ribs, and every broken bone. Never begging of mercy as the asshole had always demanded he cry for, Riki had been this bitch’s punching bag for years.
Now he wanted his pound of flesh. He wanted to hear the fucker’s arm break using the strength of his hands, like the mother fucker had done to him. He wanted to have the child beating prick under his boot begging for mercy, and then denying him.
There was no ‘time heals all wounds’, no, ‘forgive and forget’. Mongrels weren’t taught crap like that. There were only count downs until they met their hated foes once again. And when they did, they had to make sure the people who’ve done them wrong were paid back—with interest.
Iason be damned. Riki would get his justice, and not just for himself, but for the kids, whose calls for blood told him that the fucker had continued his cruelty onto them. And with Iason’s huge body, and Blondie presence, blocking the only exit, Riki no longer needed to block every move the bastard made towards the door.
Control was slow to come back, and Riki didn’t blame the vicious side of him for tucking its tail between its legs when Iason appeared, however, the added strength of his beast was no longer necessary. Everyone the whip carrier had called in to protect him all lay on the floor, groaning.
“Riki.”
Riki snarled in anger when Iason called out his name.
“Who might we have here?”
Ungloved fingers pushed aside Riki’s sweat dampened hair, baring the back of his neck for Iason’s caress.
“Is he an old friend, perhaps?”
Rage still burning hotly through his veins, Riki was incapable of speech.
“An acquaintance from your childhood you’d like to have a few words with, to chat about old times?”
Slowly by slowly Riki eased under Iason’s hand. It wasn’t because Iason was trying to calm him down, but because the tone Iason used had been one Riki had heard numerous times before in the past, when Iason was about to destroy someone he considered his enemy. That and the grip Iason had on his neck made it impossible to kill the fucker in front of him.
“Katze,” Iason called out in a soft voice.
“Yes, Sir Iason?”
“Such violence wouldn’t have gone unnoticed by management, and seeing the bodies laying around, considerable amount of time has passed. And yet no higher authority figure is present.”
Riki watched as Katze’s bowed low by the waist and said to him and Iason, “I will see why Judd is not here seeing to this, Sir Iason.”
When Katze departed, the man moved to follow. Riki tried to take a threatening step towards him, but was stopped by Iason tightening his hand around his neck.
“I would not move if I were you. Riki has always been hard to keep a firm grip on. I would hate it if he slipped through my fingertips, and did you harm,” Iason told the man smoothly.
“Whatever it is you are doing—why you’re making Katze get Judd—I don’t care,” Riki growled. “But let me make myself clear. He is mine.”
“Such passion aimed at another man.”
Riki glanced up at Iason with disgust. It didn’t matter that Iason’s eyes shimmered with humor. The very imagery Iason’s comment brought was revolting.
“Would you like to take care of your little problem here?” Iason inquired.
Even though Riki’s lips formed his answer, the mutterings of the children behind him stilled his words. It was one thing to beat the shit out of a dozen men, leaving them bleeding on the floor with minor wounds. It was another thing entirely to rip the head off someone. That was something no child should see. Besides, he wasn’t the only one the fucker had tormented. V, the twins, and Niko all had a say with in how the bastard should die.
“No?” Iason said, lifting an elegant brow. “Ah, yes…you’re not one for audiences, how foolishly of me to forget.” With the snap of Iason’s fingers, all the children ran from the room. Not knowing who Iason was, but sensing—correctly—that Iason was someone they did not disobey.
“Now, that is better, is it not?”
Riki glared up at Iason. He could feel his Blondie’s support, but there was still a bite of anger in Iason’s voice. Why? Riki had no clue.
“Sir Iason Mink! I did not know you would be gracing us with your presences,” Judd fearfully said as he rushed into the large room with Katze and Manon right behind him. “If you had notified me, I would have made sure to have greeted you upon your arrival.”
“Regardless of my surprised appearance, the matter of your staff should always be supervised, and controlled with an iron hand,” Iason replied, looking coldly down at Judd. “Here I am standing amongst filth, which Riki kindly took upon himself to give them lessons on respect. However, the fact that he needed to makes one doubt your managing capabilities.”
“My father—“
“Still your mouth, boy!” Judd hissed to his son.
Even Riki had to shake his head—like he saw Katze do—at Manon’s stupidity. And when Iason turned his pale blue eyes to Manon, Riki even felt a tad bit of pity for him.
“Ah, yes…the ‘son’. I do believe, Katze, my decision with this one was made in haste,” Iason said. “If he has not learned to hold his tongue now, then just think what will happen once he is in command. It looks to me that the Kuger clan’s usefulness has come to an end, as have all of their positions in Guardian. A new leader must be picked.”
Riki shrugged out of Iason’s hold—slightly surprised Iason actually let him go—and stepped forward. “And I’m taking it.” Lifting his chin, Riki dared Iason to deny him. “You need change? Well, I’m going to be the one to make them.”

“Here?” Orphe said to Gideon with obvious distaste.
“Your tracker and mine end at the same place,” replied Gideon. “How ever we many not want it to be so, your mongrel and Jade is inside this…‘establishment’.”
Disgusted by merely being anywhere near such a low class club in the less impressive side of Midas, Orphe curled his lip and promised V would pay for missing his curfew.
Over an hour had passed since Violet should have returned, however, if not for Gideon’s rational words of reason’s why Violet could be late, Orphe would have begun searching the moment the minute hand passed the hour mark the two young men should have been back in Eos.
“We will not retrieve them if we stand out here, Orphe,” Gideon said, making the first move inside.
Yes, even Gideon and all his Elite military control was nothing when the minutes continued to pass and there had been no signs of the mongrels. It had been Gideon whom had stood up first from the seating area in the lobby, announcing his plan to bring back his pet.
However, even as Gideon and he exited Eos, they had not been the only ones with missing mongrels as they were joined by, not only Marcus and Gabriel, but Mikhale and Aisha as well. None of them said a word to one another, but in pairs silently entered their vehicles and departed in opposite directions.
In the club, Orphe and Gideon were greeted by a bumbling Midasian maître d', and with every gushing word from the annoying man, Orphe’s temper heightened.
Gideon, much more controlled than him, effectively silenced the man with a curt word to be silent. “We are looking for two young men. One of them is about five feet, five inches with light brown hair and jade color eyes.”
“Yes, yes!” The host answered cheerfully. “Alan. The lovely young man whom Mr. Chris Zakler brought as his guest!”
“Chris Zakler?” Orphe asked.
“Yes! A most beautiful young man with wonderful violet hair and purple eyes! Our other patrons absolutely adore him!” The little man leaned closer and said behind his hand. “Mr. Zalker is quite the man’s man, and a ladies man as well. A very charming and very generous young lord he is.”
“Take us to Mr. Zakler,” Orphe said threw clenched teeth, surprising the host with his sudden anger.
“A-ah, y-yes. Right this way.”
As Gideon and he followed, Gideon said, “Chris Zakler, Orhpe? Another one of your mongrel’s ‘supporters’?”
His fists tightly closed at his side, Orphe glared at Gideon. “For Violet’s sake, I hope not.”

Hovering above the renounced city of Ceres, Aisha gasped in disbelief at the utter savagery of the mongrels fighting an all out war below them, and in the center of that chaos, fighting with such brutality, was his mongrel.
Aisha furrowed his brows. “Is this what it is like, Ceres?” Aisha asked his silent passenger, Mikhale. The sky long turned dark, was lighted by the flames burning in an abandoned house, and even from the height at which they hovered, Aisha could hear the shouting from the mongrels battling under them.
“What the rest of these creatures do on their own turf is of no concern of mine,” Mikhale replied coldly. “I am here only to reclaim what is mine, not interact with the local wildlife.”
Aisha went back to watching his mongrel, not bothering to reply to Mikhale’s cold comments, because they were the truth. They had not come to gasp in horror at how the lowest of low classes interacted with one another. They came to take back from Ceres what it would not release. Their pets.
And yet, even if they meant to stop the fighting to get Sky and Mikhale’s pet from the bloodthirsty fold, Aisha could not stop to marvel at the graceful way Sky knocked down his foes. Such spirit, such skill, such passion! To see so much energy, so much delight Sky expressed made Aisha realize just how much his mongrel hid from him, and it angered him greatly. It bothered Aisha that his mongrel had denied him this part of himself.
The mongrel had only shown him briefly the dark pleasure of which lay inside of him, and Aisha had foolishly thought that was all the mongrel had in him. But he knew better now, and even the knowledge that Sky was nothing like the sweet pet he had thought him to once be, knowing he was more heated his blood to the boiling point.
I want him to show me more.
“There!” Mikhale pointed down, and Aisha’s eyes followed to where Mikhale’s pet fought. Aisha furrowed his brow as Mikhale’s pet’s opponents, after they rushed in and their blows were blocked, strangely turned around and began acting as Lilly’s guards.
“We will have to make this quick, Mikhale,” Aisha warned. “Sky is closer, so we will be grabbing him first.”
Mikhale shot a glare in his direction. “Just get us down there Aisha.”
Excitement burning in his veins, Aisha descended.

Circling above the freight yard, Marcus cursed. “Damn it! Where could he be hiding?!”
“I told—“
“Gabriel,” Marcus growled. “If you say “I told you so” one more time, I will push you out, and considering we has quite a distance from the ground, you will feel the impact!”
Marcus could not quell his growing panic as his and Gabriel’s tracking devices flickered on and off, never pinpointing Keita’s exact location. And despite Gabriel’s nonchalant attitude, Marcus could see how tightly the Blondie gripped his knees.
Keita being late hadn’t come as such a surprise to Marcus when the hour after dark curfew had passed, and there had still been no sign of the two boys. However, when there had been no word of any of the mongrels return, Marcus had felt fear for the first time. Thoughts of Keita escaping, and not having him in his arms had driven him from his apartment with Gabriel right at his heels.
In his private hover car, he and Gabriel discovered in silent dismay that the pet rings on their pets, the signal, was somehow being interrupted by something. What they had gotten from the weak, flickering trackers had almost lead them to believe that Keita and Niko did escape, because the speed in which they were traveling on land was impossible.
Having nothing else to go by, Marcus and Gabriel and followed the signal until it stopped at a weighing post just a few miles from the shipping station.
“We will get no where if we continue to hover like this,” Marcus said. “We will have to search by foot.” Landing, Marcus and Gabriel exited his car. With his own tracker in the palm of his hand, Marcus followed the bright blinking light that pointed where Keita’s pet ring may lay in hiding.
“If anything has happen to Niko, I will hold your mongrel personally responsible,” Gabriel said. “A mongrel he may be, and he may be mischievous, but Niko would never have run away.”
In between two large hover freights, Marcus turned to Gabriel. “From all the nonsense you’ve been going on and on about, on top of what we discovered when we interviewed the factory overseer, your Niko is just as capable—wait… what do you mean “A mongrel he may be”? How could Niko be a mongrel?”
Marcus’s demand for an answer was interrupted by loud banging. “What is that?”
Gabriel frowned. “Where is it coming from?”
Marcus and Gabriel cringed as an ear piercing noise ripped through the air. Sparks flew from one of the tanks next to them. Marcus and Gabriel barely had time to rush to the side as a large circular piece of metal flew out; imbedding itself into the hover truck parked next to it, and from the hole gushed sweet smelling liquid.
However, liquid wasn’t the only thing to come shooting out. There, amongst the scandalous amounts of lubricant lay the groaning pair Gabriel and he had been in a panic to find.
Marcus watched as Keita—who still had not noticed he was standing there—pulled off some sort of breathing mechanism, and protective eye wear, from his face, along with Niko’s and they both began roaring with laughter.
—“Oh my God! What a wild ride!”
—“I wanna do that again!”
—“I do too! How fun was that!”
Marcus cleared his throat, interrupting Keita and Niko’s cheering.
Both young men, startled, whipped their heads around, and Marcus grimaced in disgust as their sudden movement caused oily liquid to spray upon his already ruined attire.
“Oh shit…” Gabriel’s pet, Niko, whispered.
If Marcus had been in a better mood, he would have found this next scene to be quite humorous. Keita and Niko looked at them, at one another, then back to him and Gabriel before trying to get to their feet and make a run for it.
However, because of the slipperiness of what was pooled all around the boys, and on each other, all Keita and Niko did was continuously slip and slide, falling on each other and on their hind ends until they lay groaning in pain from their constant trips down.
“Shall we?” Gabriel inquired, strangely silent since the boys made their appearance.
Marcus wrinkled his nose in disgust. “From their sad attempts to escape punishment, I believe we must or they will do themselves even more harm.”
“Then after you.”
Taking off his coat and holding it wide open, Marcus carefully made his way to his skittish mongrel.

Entering Iason’s private car, just outside the entrance of Guardian, Riki finally addressed Iason, and what happened after his announcement. “I can’t believe you approved of me taking over Guardian,” Riki said the moment he and Iason were up in the air.
“How could I deny you? If I did, your power would have diminished in their eyes. Besides, I did say Guardian needed a new leader, did I not?” Iason smiled. “However, you do realize they will think you got the job because I favor you.”
Riki glared at Iason. “When I go back they won’t.”
“You are correct.”
Riki stiffened as Iason’s tone suddenly turned cold. “Why are you pissed? If you didn’t want me taking over, then you could have said no. I wouldn’t have listened to you, but you could have said it.”
“My displeasure has nothing to do with you demanding I hand Guardian over to you, but your failure to keep your end of our deal. You were to pick up every one of my calls. And as for tomorrow? Those mongrels in Guardian opinion of how you obtained your position will change when they see you next.”
Riki briskly patted his pockets. “Ha… Looks like I forgot my cell in Katze’s ride. Woops.”
“How convenient.”
Riki shrugged. “It was an accident.”
“Was it?” Iason inquired. “Or could it have been your way of trying to get out of our deal?”
Annoyed, looking out the window as Eos came closer, Riki carelessly said, “I forgot about the damn deal and you—“ Riki cut himself off. “I forgot.”
“Then all I can do is make sure you’ll never forget me again,” Iason coldly stated, making Riki shiver.
Coughing in his fist, Riki quickly changed the subject. “Just to let you know, mongrels won’t be your fucking servants any longer.” Now might not have been the best time for Riki to bring this topic up, but by the threat in Iason’s voice, now probably would be the only time he’d have to say anything.
Iason chuckled. “Ah. That is where we will have to agree to disagree.”
Riki growled at Iason. “There is no—“
“Regardless of what you may think, Riki, becoming Furniture is a blessing for many mongrels.”
Not believing his ears, Riki said, “You make them your slaves! You think I’ll let my ‘kin’ be taken and castrated by you? Fuck no, Iason.”
“By your words, I am hearing room for negotiation?”
“What?” Riki gasped in disbelief.
Landing expertly in front of Eos, Iason took Riki firmly by the chin. “Take some time and discuss this with your fellow mongrels. This could be a way to better all the lives of the mongrels of Ceres, and the rearing of mongrel children. Change must happen slowly, Riki. Taking Furniture away from Elites would be world shattering, and might cause a rebellion, even the possibility for the demand of new leadership.”
“You fuckers don’t like your toys taken away, yea, I get it. Hell, I know that more than anyone,” Riki said, jerking his chin from Iason grasp. “And don’t give me crap about the Elites thinking to go up against you to kick you off your throne. Yea, they can cause you a shit load of problems, and that’s why I’ve told my boys not to piss anyone off too much.
“But I know that bitch, Jupiter—and you—would crush anyone if they seriously tried to take your spot. She’s got fucking major plans for you, and we know it has to do with whatever it is she’s trying to do—and has done—to me.” Although they still didn’t know what it was, but sure and shit it had something to do with why she created Jade and why he was the way he is now.
“Not just you, Riki,” Iason said, nodding out the window to the hover cars that arrived. “What Jupiter has planned now also includes your mongrel friends.”
Looking, Riki’s eyes widened at the new arrivals. “What the fuck did they do…”
“If you had your cell on you, maybe you would know.”
Riki glowered in his seat.
