Warning: Not your ‘nice’ everyday fanfic of your favorite couple. Very strong language / Humiliation (depending on how you look at it) / Angst / Lime, Lemon / Yaoi. Rating will tend to go up in later chapters.
Summary: How would it be if the one person you trusted with your heart was found to have betrayed it? Seeing him there, with… ‘him’ was nearly more than he could bare. He never thought that he would do something like this. He never thought that he would be betrayed by him.
Yes, the character’s might seem a little out of character, but then how would you react?
Take above Warning seriously.

Portrait Without Sin

Part 8: New Partner
He had to put him out of his mind. He had to stop thinking of that dark haired man Ryo had chosen to destroy their relationship with. He had to stop the image of the man’s hand sliding down Ryo’s bare back, the image of the man’s lips pressing against those that were supposed to have belonged to him; he had to stop conjuring the images of seeing Ryo’s face displayed in sleepy erotic-ness, not into his face, but into the other dark haired lover.
It had been just over a month now since he had left Ryo. Three weeks since he had been changed to a different partner. He had hurt every day upon waking and finding the spot next to him empty -- even though it had been his own doing by walking out. But he just couldn’t bare… he couldn’t forgive… and with the sight that he saw continuing to eat away at him… after all he had given Ryo… He felt stripped naked and his very soul exposed to the torturous pain. Ok, maybe that thought was a bit melodramatic, but then again it was how he really felt; how it really hurt.
It didn’t help much seeing him there at work either; even for a few moments made him hurt like hell, so there were a lot of times that Dee just spent his time out of the office; coming in only when it was necessary. It did help that Ryo had changed desks, allowing for Dee’s new partner to take his place near him, while he situated himself near Ted. At least then, Ryo was out of line of easy eye sight. You know the old saying, “Out of sight, out of mind.” It made it easier… well, not easier, just less… tense -- heh, yeah, right.
Then, just to make things twisted, his new partner Derek, much to Dee’s cringe, was a lot like Ryo in build and looks. It was nearly the same as having his old partner with him most times when the man was being quiet. The biggest difference was, Derek had striking blue eyes and not the deep rich warm ones that Ryo had.
For the most part Dee ignored his ex-partner, unless it absolutely had to do with police work business. Then, and only then, did he communicate with the other man; leaving his presence as soon as it was finished with. At times, the emerald eyed detective would still catch Ryo glancing over at him with a subtle expression of… what… regret?
In a way, Dee was glad that his ex-partner was still in misery. The man thought he could just traipse all over his heart. He thought he could have his cake and eat it too, but he found out that it didn‘t work that way. Ryo had spun the wheel, played the game, lost, and it was over.
There was a day, about a week and a half ago, he remembered, that Ryo had been sitting quietly at his desk doing paper work. His dark eyes had wondered over at him at least twice that morning, and Dee knew because he had been leaning over his ‘new’ partner Derek, looking at some information they had gathered on a recent case when he off-handedly caught Ryo’s gaze. Other than the same flickering emotion within the dark depths, his ex-partner appeared to be otherwise fine, but by that afternoon, it was a whole different story. Ryo look as if he had been kicked in the stomach by a mule with an ‘I’m feeling sick, can I go home now’ look, and he kept his attention away from him the rest of the day.
Dee hadn’t known until later that evening, when he and Derek had went for a couple of beers, as to the shift of his ex-partner’s demeanor. Derek had smirked at to his own smugness when relaying the events, and that’s when Dee had connected the incident as to the Ryo’s change of manner.
The half Japanese ex-partner had approached his new partner in a light attempt to inquire about him and to have a message passed on. But Derek, did his best to humiliate Ryo by saying that as his partner, he would not betray the confidant of the other man, further putting him in his place, in no uncertain terms, by informing him that if Dee wanted him to know anything that he would tell him himself, and if he had something to say to him, he could face him himself too -- that is, if Dee wanted to listen to it.
The ebony haired man had gotten a small measure of enjoyment over the thought that Ryo had such a strong reaction. The guilt of his transgressions hit him pretty hard.
But today, it was Dee that felt miserable, and he vented it by being more irritable than normal. Slamming the drawer shut with a bit more force than necessary, caused other people in the room to jump. It quieted a bit for a couple of moments, but then went right back to being it’s normal bustling noisy pace. No, he wasn’t in a good mood today. Today would have been Ryo’s and his first anniversary.
Even though it felt as if it wouldn’t, the work day finally came to a grinding end, and Dee decided that he would definitely go out on the town tonight. What better way to cement a new partnership than to end an old one on its own momentous day?
He was at his locker, when Ryo came into the room. He didn’t need to glance over to know it was him; he could sense him as surely as if he were a part of his own soul. The man with honey brown hair faltered and stopped the moment he saw him; pausing a few moments before coming further into the room. His steps leading him toward the other man’s direction.
“Dee,” he started, stopping next to him, unsure as to how his ex-partner would respond. The door of the locker was more in his view than the man himself. “we…… I need to talk with you.”
“Is it about work?”
“No,” he answered, shaking his head.
“Then I don’t have anything to talk to you about.”
“Please, we need to talk. You need to know why……”
Ryo wasn’t sure what Dee had tossed into the locker, but he was cut off just the same by whatever it was when it made a loud bang as it hit the backside of it.
“It’s important that you listen to me…” he tried to continue.
Dee turned his head to look straight at him; his emerald eyes glittering like an angry cat ready to strike out.
“Maybe for you it is.”
“For us it is.”
“There is no us anymore.”
“If you would give me a chance…..”
“I gave you a chance, Ryo. You think I’m fool enough to hand you back the knife for you to stab me with it again?” His unwavering gaze took in the measure of pain that he saw within the other man’s depths, and he taunted coldly, “You gonna cry, now, baby?”
About then, the door opened and Derek walked in.
“Yo, Dee, you ready?”
With the tips of his fingers, Dee shut his locker with an easy slam, and moved toward the other man.
“Ready as I’ll ever be. How about you?”
“Looking forward to it.” The light haired man grinned, which in turn earned him an arm thrown across his shoulders and a manly squeezing shake from Dee.
Green eye’s turned back to his ex-partner, who had been watching the display.
“Don’t have time for it, Ryo.” He said almost laughing, giving the man in his embrace a heavy smack on the chest with his other hand. “Derek and I are going out. It’s been a real long time since I’ve had…” He purposely paused, then added, “some fun.” and gave Ryo a wink as if to hint ‘you know what I mean.’
Ryo could only stare at Dee, his eyes brimming with unshed tears.
“You don’t have to get so teary eyed over it, Ryo. Fairs fair, right?” Dee continued to smile. “We’ll talk later…… maybe.”
Ryo watched as his lover started to walk out of the room with his new companion still partially in his grasp. The man that Dee was going to ‘have fun with.’ The man that was taking his place… in more ways than one, it seemed. It didn’t need to be said outright, but Dee had more than hintingly* implied that he was going to have sex with Derek too. And tonight of all nights. On the day of their anniversary!
“Dee,” His name was called out, and before the two men were completely out the door. A hand landed on the arm of the dark haired man, his sleeve caught within its grasp, and he was being pulled back into the room. “He’ll be a minute,” were the next words, as another hand pushed the lighter haired man on out the door; shutting it before anything more could be said.
“Ryo..”
“Damn it, Dee! Listen to me,” Ryo started forcefully desperate, but then his words gave way to pleading. “Don’t do this. Please! Come over to the apartment. We can talk. I really need to tell you that…”
“It doesn‘t matter,” he cutting him off, closing his eyes against him. He wanted to give in so much, and seeing how torn his lover was, he had to shut him out least he would give in.
“…you’re wrong…”
Dee jerked his captured arm free of Ryo’s grasp. The pain in his chest grew even worse at the next words that were spoken.
“I love you, Dee! Won’t you please…”
Pushing Ryo away, Dee said flatly, “It’s over. I don’t care anymore.”
“That’s not true!”
“It is. You want someone to cry on, go run to Armon. I‘m sure he will kiss and make it better for ya!”
*****************
The phone rang once, twice, a third time, and finally after it rang the fourth time, he heard the musical jiggle and then the familiar voice that was blunt and to the point. It was the same as any other time he had tried reaching him.
“You know the drill. Name, number, message.”
There was barely the sound of a beep to signal it was recording.
“D-Dee, it’s me. The invite to come over is still open,” He gave a moment of silence before he continued. “It’s important that we talk, because there is something I need to tell you. I… heh… I didn’t at first because I… I don’t know why… I guess I still wanted to keep it a secret. It seems rather stupid now, but you’ve got to know that I……”
There was just dead silence. Even though there wasn’t a sound to indicate the connection had been cut off, Ryo could tell that it had been. Damn it, even the damn voice mail wouldn't let him talk!
*****************
He sat there in the near darkness, on the floor, against the wall. One leg had it’s knee bent so that the arm of the hand that held the telephone receiver was rested upon it, while the other leg curled in front of him against the floor. With his head bent, he looked as though he was asleep, but the fact was, he was far from it. His dark eyes were open, yet no one could see them from underneath the mess of bangs that made a veil over his face as he stared at… nothing… even though his gaze was fixed upon a spot on the floor between his legs.
The phone in his hand was silent. Having, a long while back, cut off from the constant beeping that warned a person that their receiver was off the hook.
How stupid was he to think he could reach him by phone? He had tried this weeks ago to no avail. The cell phone that Dee had, had caller ID, and, therefore, he would know immediately who it was that called -- unless he had it turned off, but… he couldn‘t have -- not for him to have gotten four rings from the damn unit instead of being routed immediately to voice mail. So that meant he was ignoring it, or… or he was too busy to answer. Besides, what did he think he could accomplish? He could barely even get two words said with the man in person, and he expected him to just click it on and talk?
*****************
A figure moved closer and knelt down in front of the man on the floor. A deeply tanned colored hand reached out and smoothed back the hair away from his adoptive father’s face.
How long had it been since he had looked into the soft, warm chocolate eyes of the person that had taken him in as a son, and seen that sparkle of life which was his nature? Had it been three weeks or more? It seemed like a lifetime ago, actually. Even to him, it was an eternity without Dee.
“R-Ryo?” Bikky spoke quietly, as he took the dead receiver out of the man’s hand. There was no resistance as he did so. “Dad?”
There was a moment or two of silence, then the teenager rose up and replaced the device back onto its cradle on the wall. After which, he knelt back down next to the man on the floor.
“Are you alright?”
There was a slight flinch, and slowly Ryo’s head came up and turned toward the young adolescent at his side.
“Sure, Bikky,” His voice sounded normal, but there was something about it that didn’t fit the expression he had upon his face just moments before. “Everything is fine.”
Searching the unfathomable darkness of his gaze, Bikky only saw the empty void within them, the life that had once been there was hidden somewhere beyond their depths.
“Then why are you sitting on the Kitchen floor, in the dark holding the phone, and looking like someone died.” He paused and gave thought for a moment. “Someone didn‘t die, did they?”
“No,” the blondish-brown haired man answered, displaying a smile so nice and so suddenly that one couldn’t help not know it was fake; the street wise punk wasn‘t any less fooled by it either. “No. Really. I just… I just finished a phone conversation and just hadn’t gotten up. My mind just wondered off a bit.”
Ryo moved to straighten himself up, as did the younger boy.
“I can go kick his ass, if you want me too. When I get done with that stupid asshole…”
Ryo didn’t look directly at him, but he could still hear the seriousness of the boy’s tone.
“Bikky.” He used his own familiar tone that meant for the juvenile to cease whatever misdemeanor he was into.
“What?” came the response of innocent pretense, as he spread his hands out in a shrug.
“Don’t bother, Dee.”
There was a few moments of silence between them, then Bikky’s voice spoke quietly, “He’s not coming back, is he?”
“No.” came the equally quiet reply.
Slim brown arms wrapped around the waist of the man standing in front of him.
“I’m sorry, Ryo.”
“It’s alright.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ End of Part 8 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Sorry this was a short chapter.
Umm... review please?
* hintingly (hinting-ly): not really a proper word, I used it to fit what I was saying in the story.
Hong Mee - The fall should be mighty. Hope I pull this off and do it justice. Glad you’re still with me.
JazzyGirl - I hope this chapter was still suspenseful enough for you though. You’ll be finding out very, very soon.
Julia - Thank you. Hope you enjoyed this last chapter as well. (Umm… I don’t mean it being the last chapter, I meant… well you know)
KD - Very soon.
Kit_Yang - I wonder what you thought of this chapter. Oh-oh… duck or tissues? Sorry to hear about the crash of your computer. Been wondering why you haven’t updated yourself. (Now I know).
Lychee - Am I still being cruel, or am I soften up?
Raining_like_tears - Here’s some more to ponder. Hope you continue to enjoy…hurt?
Someone Out There - Hello? You still out there? Heh! Was it OK or not enough?
prettydynamite - Hope you liked this chapter as much, even as brief as it is.
Wildefyre - I wanted to cry when I thought about writing that in as that. I wanted to put it in the chapter of Ryo’s musings, Chapter 5, so badly, but then I thought it might have better effect in Dee’s since he would be the one reading it. Hope you liked this chapter as well. Oh, and you have a great site yourself! Lots of pictures I hadn’t even see before.
XZanayu - Just this is just filler angst for you this time. Next chapter you’ll have at least one answered fulfilled.
