[Text in box] is when a Pokemon is speaking to their trainer.
Bold means a Pokemon is speaking telepathically.

Flowers. They were in a field of flowers. Had she been more aware of her surroundings, Alandra would have been awed by the incredible sight before her. Gardenia would have fallen to her knees in tears had she come across a field of such variety; vibrant reds, cool blues, radiant yellows and so many more. Alandra, however, was in the wrong state of mind to consider any kind of anthophilia.
“How could he do that!?” Alandra yelled, more to herself than to anyone else. “ Why wouldn’t he let us stay and fight?”
“He wanted to protect us, Alandra.” Frank said as he took in his surroundings. “If the people who were coming to attack were as powerful as he predicted we would have only gotten in the way.”
“He let Auren stay, though.” She said angrily. “He isn’t even one of us, but Uxie let him stay and help.”
“You know why, Alandra. Auren and Tonitrus are far stronger than we are. I don’t know that I would trust someone like him with my life, but it isn’t up to me to judge Uxie’s decisions.” Frank said, trying to talk sense into Alandra. He could tell she was incredibly distressed.
“Umm, I don’t mean to interrupt, but do either of ya know where we are right now?” Maylene inquired.
“No clue.” Frank said as he shrugged his shoulders. “I can see the ocean on at least three sides, but I can’t see any land beyond those. It’s not hot enough here to be far enough south to be near the ocean there…so we must be on an island in the north.”
“Very astute of you!” A high-pitched voice called out from somewhere in the flowers. Everyone turned quickly in the direction the voice came from, but they didn’t see anything. “Welcome to Flower Paradise!” The voice called out again, but the body was still hidden from sight.
“Where are you? And who are you?” Alandra called out in the direction of the voice.
“Oh, sorry about that! I’m down here.” All present looked down and finally spotted the source of the voice. It was a very small creature, not even a foot tall. Its body was completely white and its fur was green like grass. It had a couple of beautiful, pink flowers growing on its back as well. “I’m Shaymin, the Gratitude Pokemon!”
“Wait, Shaymin? Isn’t Shaymin supposed to be the legendary Pokemon that they call the Sky Warrior? No offense, but you don’t look like much of a warrior or anything that would be in the sky.” Frank said, cocking his eyebrow at the tiny Pokemon.
“Well how rude!” The tiny Pokemon ‘hurumphh’ed as it walked a short distance to a flower similar to the ones on its back. It reached out a short leg to touch the flower and a flash of light caused everyone to shut their eyes for a moment. “How about now, is this more acceptable?” The voice had the same tone, but the pitch was now considerably lower.
“Wow, did ya really just change that much? Ya look so cool now!” Maylene cheerfully complimented the Pokemon.
“Oh…well…thank you very much.” Shaymin said as a tinge of redness colored his cheeks. “This is my Sky Forme, the form that awarded me the title of Sky Warrior.”
“Well that makes a bit more sense. I apologize for doubting you.” Frank said as he rubbed the back of his head. “Anyway, you said we were in Flower Paradise? I’ve never heard of it before.”
“That’s to be expected. Most humans have never heard of this island, and even fewer know its location. This is my home, and I enjoy my privacy. We’re quite a ways north of the Sinnoh Pokemon League, and the mountain you can see in the distance is the one you’d know as Stark Mountain.”
“Wait, Stark Mountain? We’re that far north? I can’t even see the land that the Pokemon League is built on from here!” Alandra said, squinting in an attempt to see the land mass to the south.
“Yes, as I said I enjoy privacy. The secluded location is the primary reason that Uxie sent you here. He knew you’d be safe on my island.” Shaymin said.
“Wait, you know Uxie? Do you know what’s going on then?” Frank asked.
“I do. I keep in touch with all of the Psychic Trio, and I’m aware of what the human group known as Chosen Seven plans to do. I also know of Darkrai’s influence over the humans.” Shaymin said, letting them know he knew at least as much as they did and likely more.
“Can you tell what is happening right now?” Alandra asked quickly. She was desperate to know how Auren and Uxie were faring back near Lake Acuity.
“Hold on, I’ll see what I can find out.” Shaymin said. He closed his eyes and turned his head in the direction that Alandra assumed Snowpoint was in. “Indeed. He has just witnessed the arrival of two powerful Pokemon. He is about to enter into battle…beside a human. Interesting.”
“That’s Auren!” Alandra said, happy to know that Auren was indeed still by Uxie’s side. “Can you keep us updated on the fight as it progresses?”
“I can try. I’m not a Psychic type, so my ability is limited. I can only communicate with Uxie while he has the channel open. If he has to fight fully he may close the link to focus his power. I’ll do my best though.” Shaymin said before he began a sort of commentary. “Alright, there are two trainers coming in now. The first is a man with a Dragonite, the other is a woman with a Garchomp…”
---------------------------------------------
“Seems you were expecting us after all.” Palmer called out to the legendary Pokemon before him. “Guess the plan to take you by surprise was a complete failure.”
“Indeed, human. We know of your plan and of your movements. Did you think you could surprise three of the most powerful Psychic types in the region?” Uxie responded coolly.
“I see you plan on making this difficult for us. You even brought another trainer along to help you. No matter. You’ve only prolonged the inevitable.” Argenta addressed the Knowledge Pokemon, then turned her attention to Auren. “If you leave now we won’t pursue you, boy. You can’t win here.”
“Funny. I feel like Troy thought the same thing. You might have known him, he claimed to be a member of your little cult as well.” Auren responded with a smirk. He was trying not to show how nervous he truly was. Tonitrus was strong, but a Garchomp would be able to overwhelm her if they were close in level.
“So you are the one who killed the seventh member?” Palmer asked. “You said his name was Troy? Did he by chance use a Skuntank or a Drapion?” For the first time in a few days Auren let his mind wander back to the Pokemon who were probably close to fully healed by now. He shook the thought out of his head.
“Yeah, he used both of them in a battle against me.” Auren answered.
“I see. To tell you the truth, I knew Troy Bloomcamp.” Auren’s eyebrow raised a bit when he learned the dead man’s last name. “He was a decent trainer, but compared to either of us he was nothing, a small fry. I feel like it’s safe to assume that you’re Auren Cole?” Palmer finished by addressing Auren directly.
“I am.” Auren answered. He was trying to figure out why this man would tell him that he knew Troy. “What do you mean you knew him? You were members of the same group. Why wouldn’t you know him?” Palmer looked like he was about to answer, but he was beaten to the punch.
“That is none of your concern, boy.” Argenta answered, casting a sideways glance at Palmer. “Our business is our business, and you’ll be dead soon so it’s pointless to tell you anything. You killed one of our members, and you will be punished for your sins.” Auren was already tired of hearing this ‘holier than thou’ bullshit. The sooner this group was gone, the better.
“If your goal here is to kill me and capture Uxie, than you should know Troy won’t be the last member of your group to die. I unwittingly did work for you boss for too long, and I won’t rest until that man is dead. Some stupid, condescending religion won’t save you.” Auren was done talking; the sooner the battle started the sooner it could end.
“How dare you! You will not talk about the father that way! Garchomp, Dragonbreath!” Argenta called out, ordering her Pokemon to attack Auren. The Mach Pokemon took a deep breath and exhaled a magenta blast in Auren’s direction. Before it could make contact, Uxie appeared in front of Auren and used Protect, causing the attack to harmlessly dissipate.
“I will take on the Garchomp.” Uxie said. “Have Tonitrus deal with the Dragonite. These are both very powerful Pokemon, this will not be an easy battle…not even for me. Be careful. I know you usually let Tonitrus battle her own way, but keep an eye on the battle and if you can call out assistance in any way don’t hesitate to do so.” Auren nodded as Uxie flew off to confront the Ground/Dragon hybrid.
“Guess it’s you and me, then.” Palmer addressed Auren. “The name is Palmer. I don’t want to battle an opponent without at least telling him my name. Dragonite, Dragon Rush!”
The large Dragon Pokemon charged forward, surrounding itself with a deep purple energy. Tonitrus copied Uxie’s earlier move and used protect, stopping the dragon in its tracks. Immediately afterwards she let loose an immense Thunder attack.
“Dragonite, fly!” The dragon took off surprisingly quickly for something with such small wings. In seconds it was almost out of sight and Auren could only make out a dot in the sky. Tonitrus stood and watched the dragon fly almost out of sight, making sure not to let it escape her vision. She began channeling electricity into her right hand to deliver a Thunderpunch. Soon enough, Dragonite came charging downwards with immense velocity. A split-second before impact Tonitrus threw her punch.
Auren had to cover his eyes when they impacted. The collision caused the ground to shatter and shot dirt and dust in every direction. Had Auren not turned his head he would have gotten a face full of dirt. He opened his eyes but couldn’t see through the thick cloud of dust that had formed. He quickly turned again to check on Uxie’s progress.
His eyes widened while he watched the legendary Pokemon battle Garchomp. The only time Auren had ever seen a legend battle was when Tonitrus had fought Darkrai. In that case Auren knew that Darkrai hadn’t been completely serious like Uxie was now. It wasn’t only the power of Uxie that caught Auren off guard, though. He could accept a legendary Pokemon being so powerful. It was the might of the Garchomp that caused him alarm.
Uxie was launching waves of psychic energy at the Mach Pokemon, but none of them were connecting. The Garchomp moved so quickly that it left a momentary afterimage that fooled Auren’s eyes into thinking the blows were landing. Auren wondered how anything could react to such a fast Pokemon’s attacks in time to dodge or block them. Uxie was doing just that. Anytime Garchomp flew in for an attack Uxie used Protect exactly where the attack came from. Auren silently thanked Uxie for battling the Garchomp; he wasn’t sure if Tonitrus could defeat such a powerful opponent with her type disadvantage. As the dust began to settle he saw Uxie’s entire body glow blue for a moment, but nothing happened after that. Auren figured it must have been some kind of technique to power the Psychic type up. He could finally see the results of the clash between Tonitrus and Dragonite, and it almost brought a smile to his face.
Almost.
The two Pokemon stood nearly twenty feet apart. Tonitrus’ Thunderpunch had obviously been timed perfectly, and had landed on the left side of Dragonite’s face. The Dragon Pokemon was missing one of it’s antennae and it’s left eye was forced shut and likely destroyed by the voltage that had traveled through it. The electricity from Tonitrus’ punch left horrific black marks around the place of impact as well as scorched tendrils where it had spread. Auren was surprised to find the Dragonite’s remaining eye still held a calm look. Tonitrus had taken no visible damage, and that was what brought Auren’s spirits up momentarily. But then he looked at her face. She was clenching her jaw tightly and her eyes were squinted as if she were in pain. She flexed her right hand and grimaced.
[My right hand is shattered.] The words caused Auren’s elation to be short lived. Her hand was broken, and that explained the pain that was crossing her features. Still, she could fight with only one hand. Auren had spent years training her to use a variety of special attacks, and she still had her left hand if she needed a physical move. All things considered, he figured she had faired better than Dragonite. Having one eye was a huge disadvantage; Dragonite wouldn’t be able to use moves that required precision and depth perception.
“Dragonite, Rain Dance!” Palmer called out. That was not a move Auren was expecting. He had heard of Palmer before, and he knew that he was a master trainer. Rain Dance would remove Dragonite’s ability to dodge Thunder attacks from Tonitrus. The large dragon’s eyes glowed a bright blue and it let out a mighty roar. If he was in a less serious mood, Auren would have commented on how the move hadn’t been anywhere close to a dance. He looked up as the snow clouds above turned a much darker shade of gray. They swirled overhead before dumping their contents - freezing, heavy rain.
“Dragonite, Hurricane!” Palmer called out. Auren had never heard of the move, and had never seen it used before. He had no idea what to tell Tonitrus; he had to hope she would be fine. He watched as she responded by launching her own Thunder attack, one that spread in every direction using Rain Dance’s added influence. Auren’s eyes widened as he considered the implications of her attack.
“Tonitrus, don’t!” Auren called out, but it was too late. He watched as the attack struck Dragonite, blasting it backward. The Dragon Pokemon struck the ground hard and slid a few yards, leaving a ditch in its wake. Auren watched in horror as the attack went straight for the other combatants on the field, Uxie and Garchomp. Garchomp stood perfectly still as the electricity channeled straight through it into the ground and an evil smile came to its face. Uxie sensed the incoming attack and used Protect to block the immense electrical force. He was successful in dissipating the attack, but blocking an outside force left him open.
Garchomp flew forward with all its speed and used Dragon Rush. Any other time the attack would leave the Mach Pokemon open to a counter attack against its legendary foe, but Tonitrus’ attack had forced Uxie’s attention away for a fraction of a second. That was all Garchomp needed. The tiny Knowledge Pokemon was caught full force by the attack and was sent flying. Uxie recovered before he hit the ground, but the attack had an obvious effect. The Garchomp didn’t move from where it was, and the evil grin had only grown more malicious. Instead of continuing its offensive attack it used Dig.
Auren quickly realized why when the strength of the wind increased drastically and small tornadoes flew towards each Pokemon except Dragonite, who was slowly pulling itself from the dirt. This was what Hurricane did, and Garchomp was protecting itself by hiding undergroun. Uxie tried to use Protect again, but overuse mixed with the previous Dragon Rush caused it to fail. The small legend was pulled into a damaging whirlwind, as was Tonirtus.
For Auren, the attack lasted an eternity. After it dissipated the clouds above began to return to normal and the rain let up considerably. All present had already taken a heavy amount of damage. All except Garchomp. Uxie had resorted to standing on the ground to preserve his psychic energy. Dragonite was standing, but was exerting visible effort to keep itself up. Then Auren looked at his closest friend.
He fought to keep calm.
------------------------------------------
“Oh my. I’m sorry to say I’ve lost my connection to Uxie.” Shaymin said quietly.
“What do you mean?” Alandra asked, on the edge of panic. “Did they capture him?”
“No, I don’t believe so. He was hit with two very powerful attacks. Even legendary Pokemon have their limits. He has likely shut off any links that would drain him of power, and that’s why I can’t see what’s happening any more. Uxie‘s opponent, the Garchomp, has expended a great deal of energy but has taken very little damage. Tonitrus and Dragonite are both injured, but I believe the Electivire has the current advantage.” Shaymin responded.
“Why did he send us away?” Alandra asked for what seemed like the millionth time. “We could have helped him…”
“You know why, Alandra.” Frank snapped, causing her to fall silent. “We would have only been in the way. If Uxie and Tonitrus are having so much trouble we would have been nothing but a hindrance. They could have taken us hostage and forced Uxie to surrender.” He took a deep breath, then let out some of the tension that visibly tightened his face. “I’m sorry for yelling at you, but you have to calm down. Panicking isn’t going to help anything. We need to make a plan in case Uxie doesn’t come back to us. He has entrusted us with the future of the group, and we’ll be all that stands in the way of the Chosen Seven if he is beaten. We have to find some way to make our Pokemon…our mates…stronger.”
“Exactly!” Shaymin said, and his cheerfulness returned for the first time since he had begun commentating the fight. “That is the very reason Uxie sent you to me. I am supposed to train all of your Pokemon to be more Powerful. I may not seem like much, but I’m actually quite strong myself. Plus I know a few things about training others.”
“No offense, but Jug and I are quite capable of training ourselves.” Frank said, dismissing the small Grass-types offer.
“Oh? Well when you find a way to access the Reverse World without me, let me know.” Shaymin said, causing Frank to raise an eyebrow.
“The Reverse World?” Alandra asked.
“Yep! It’s a world that’s the opposite of this one, and it’s where the mighty Giratina lives. It’s a pretty rough place, but it is unmatched as far as quality training goes. If he is feeling generous, Giratina himself might aid you in your training.” Shaymin said.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Maylene said, “but if it’ll let Alistair and me get stronger we’ll be glad to take ya up on the offer.” Alistair nodded. He was eager to get stronger now that he knew what he was up against. He had to protect his mate no matter the cost.
“Count me in as well.” Alandra said, resolute for the first time since they had arrived. “Mercury and I want to get stronger so that we can help Uxie.”
“I guess if everyone else is going I have no choice.” Frank added in. “Jug and I also want to see those evil bastards fall. If we have to do some intense training to do it, then that’s an added bonus.”
“Alrighty then! Give me a while to make the preparations.” Shaymin said. Then he ran off and left the group alone in the incredible field of flowers.
-------------------------------------------
Long, spiraling gashes covered Tonitrus anywhere the force of Hurricane contacted her body. The cuts traveled up and around her arms and legs, and they were bleeding heavily. She had thrown her arms up to block her face, but the damage was substantial. Auren knew Tonitrus could continue, but he also knew eventually she would weaken and lose consciousness from blood loss. For the first time in many years Auren had a crushing feeling in his gut.
Auren was afraid.
[Now you understand the true might of our foes.] Uxie’s voice entered Auren’s mind, calming the storm that was beginning to brew there. As he spoke time itself around Auren seemed to slow to a crawl.
[You have become complacent because you have constantly been able to overwhelm your foes. It will no longer work that way. You will have to work together with Tonitrus. The two of you will have to truly be in synch if you wish to win against the foes you will have to face. You will come against many difficult decisions ahead. Even the strongest Psychic type cannot see the future accurately, and that is because of choice. While we can glance ahead we can only truly see up until important choices occur. At that point a thousand roads open. You will not always take the right road, as I’m sure you know. But I believe in you, Auren Cole. Please…protect my children. Alandra, Frank, and all the others will look to you for your abilities, and you will look to them for their knowledge. I hope I am allowed to see your choices in the future.] Auren’s eyes widened as he realized what was about to happen.
“Wait, no!” He yelled out, then Uxie raised a hand and Auren and Tonitrus were gone. The Dragonite fell to the ground, clearly exhausted. Tonitrus had been the victor, even if she didn’t know it.
“It’s pointless you know?” Argenta said, addressing the Knowledge Pokemon with a smirk. “We will eventually kill that boy, and we’ll kill your followers as well. By sending him away it seems you’ve accepted defeat, and you know that we will be one giant step closer to our goal of purifying the region.”
“You are a foolish woman.” Uxie said, causing the smirk on Argenta’s face to quickly transform into a frown. “I have not given up yet. I still have plenty of fight left in me. I admit your Pokemon is very strong, but it would be so much stronger if you treated it as a friend instead of a tool or a slave. I sent Auren away because he has done his part. He has made this a battle between you and me, and that is a battle I believe I will win.”
“Enough! You talk big for a Pokemon who hasn’t even been able to damage his opponent! Garchomp, Outrage!” Argenta called out angrily. Uxie watched as the Mach Pokemon began releasing waves of red energy akin to flames. Then using its incredible speed Garchomp charged forward.
-----------------------------------
When he regained his vision Auren realized he was no longer near Lake Acuity. He quickly took in his surroundings and decided he had no idea where he was. There were woods around him, but he was in a clearing devoid of life. In the center of the clearing was a perfectly round pond with water that was far darker than any water Auren had seen before. If he had thought much about it Auren would have found it very strange that grass didn’t grow within ten yards of the water source.
[I’m not sure where we are.] Tonitrus’ voice filled his mind. Her voice was quieter than usual. The bond must have weakened as Tonitrus’ strength waned. [We need to go back. I can still fight.] She turned to move to Auren’s side but flinched when she turned. Almost any movement caused her cuts to split further and brought her pain.
“I know but…I don’t want to risk you getting hurt more than you already are.” Auren said. He had just started communicating with his Pokemon and he wasn’t ready to lose the connection he had found there.
[What? It‘s not like you to shy away from opposition. Didn’t you say it would be convenient for those people to fight us so we could weaken their group? Don’t worry about me so much. We need to help Uxie. I still have questions I‘d like to ask him.] Her voice was stronger now, more resolute.
“Tonitrus…they were too strong.” Auren said as he stared at the ground. “How are we supposed to beat opponents like that? How can we…”
[Stop it!] The voice that came through the bond was strong and forceful, and it caught Auren off guard. He looked up to see his teammate giving him a very stern look that a mother would give a child who had misbehaved. [Uxie has entrusted everything to us, and personally I consider that a great honor. The first thing we have to do is help him as he has helped so many others. You heard what he said. Your choices open roads. Let’s take the path that leads us back to his side.] Auren realized that Uxie must have broadcast his message to Tonitrus as well.
“I know you’re right, but what if we can’t win? If we fall and Uxie is still captured it won’t mean anything anyway.” Auren said, still unwilling to jump back into the fray. He had to be rational.
[Well come up with a plan!] Auren could tell that Tonitrus was getting angry now. Electricity was beginning to pop off her body and her voice was edgy. [Remember when we were on the league circuit? You always thought up a plan for me before we went into a gym. You gave me a strategy for each battle and they always worked. I’m sure if you think about the situation you’ll come up with something brilliant. You’ve let me battle my way for a number of years now, but this time I need your help. Please, Auren. We have to try.]
Tonirtus’ plea caused a light to flick on in Auren’s mind. Her words reflected Uxie’s ideal perfectly. “You will have to work together with Tonitrus.“ He said, repeating the Knowledge Pokemon’s words. He quickly thought back to the battle and to everything he had seen. There had to be some way for them to win. The Dragonite was in pretty bad shape, so it was the Garchomp that needed to be taken down. He needed a way to corner it, to counter its speed. Then something from the battle came back to him.
“We’re going back. This is a long shot, but I think I have a plan to beat the Garchomp.” Auren said. Tonitrus smiled. She saw the resolve return to Auren’s eyes. Despite the pain she quickly moved over to him and pulled him into a kiss. His eyes shot open before he accepted it and returned the kiss himself. He had avoided physical contact with her since they’d left the hotel days earlier. He was surprised to find that he had desperately missed the feeling of her lips against his. She pulled back and locked eyes with him.
[That’s the boy I know.] Her mental voice had changed completely. Instead of being stern and angry it was calm and happy [And that’s the man I love.] She let go of Auren and realized how bad she was actually bleeding. His thick snow clothes were already darkened anywhere she had touched him. [Let’s hear this plan, then. Quickly. I don’t know how long I will be of use with these wounds draining my strength.] Auren nodded.
“Don‘t worry. If my strategy works the fight will be over before they know what happened.” Auren said.
-------------------------------------
Alandra, Frank, Maylene and their Pokemon all stood behind Shaymin. The Gratitude Pokemon had led the group to a flat platform. At the end of the platform were two stone pillars that stood perfectly straight, and looked like they had no business on the island that seemed to otherwise be all natural.
“What is this?” Alandra asked, walking towards one of the pillars. Upon closer inspection she found there were symbols carved over the entire surface of each pillar, all interconnected by thinner lines. She ran her hands over the grooves and let her fingers trace a few of the intricate designs.
“This is a gate to the Reverse World. I will open the gate and allow you all passage, but what you do on the other side is largely up to you. I will be around to assist in your training if you want and when the time comes I will reopen the gate.” Shaymin answered.
“How will you decide when it‘s the right time to open it?” Maylene asked, still confused over the whole situation.
“I will know.” That was the only answer Shaymin offered before he began to glow a soft blue. After a few seconds his whole body was shining brightly, then he released the build up of energy. Blue waves flew forward as he released his Seed Flare technique. The blue waves almost immediately hit the two stone pillars, causing an immediate reaction that awed the onlookers. Some of the designs lit up the same shade of blue as Shaymin had, and the color traveled along the lines until the entire pillars were decorated with glowing blue symbols.
“Woah.” Maylene said, amazed by what she was seeing. Before she could add anything else the air between the two pillars cracked loudly, and then grew dark. After only a few seconds the group could no longer see past the gate into the fields beyond. Instead they were all looking into a dark, ominous, spiraling tunnel.
“You may enter when you’re ready. Be warned, the Reverse World is a very dangerous place. Your concept of what is real will be almost useless to you there. This will be a true test of your abilities. Should you survive you will certainly come out stronger for it. I will try to keep you all safe, but I cannot promise you anything. If you do not wish to go I’ll understand, and I’ll show you the way off the island and you’ll be free to go.” Shaymin said. His sarcastic tone showed that he didn’t believe anyone present would actually leave.
“So do we just walk through?” Alandra asked.
“Pretty much. Oh, and one final thing. You will not all go to the same place. The Reverse World will put you where it thinks you need to be. I cannot control that. So you’ll essentially be on your own most of the time. Well, not alone. You’ll still have your Pokemon with you.” Shaymin finished. Then he moved to the side and waited for the group to move on their own. They all hesitated for a moment. Then Frank rushed forward with Jug at his side and lunged into the portal. To the rest of the group his body appeared to distort and shrink as he was carried along the portal.
“Whoa, that guy has guts! C’mon Alistair, we can’t let anyone show us up!” Maylene called, then charged after Frank. The portal had the same effect on her body, and then she was gone. Alandra was the only one left.
“Thank you for this.” She told Shaymin, and the Pokemon smiled brightly.
“Wait until you’re finished to thank me!” Shaymin replied. Alandra nodded then walked towards the portal herself.
She stepped inside.
--------------------------------------
Uxie could feel his time running out. He was stronger than his opponent, but he wasn’t as fast. While he might land one out of every ten attacks, Garchomp was precise and landed a hit almost every time he attacked. The Mach Pokemon was by no means uninjured, however. When Uxie did land an attack it usually sent the Dragon type flying. There were at least a dozen places where Garchomp was bleeding, and at least a few of its bones were broken, but it was still unflinching. Uxie knew that he was only fighting for time at this point. Chances were Argenta’s other Pokemon weren’t as strong as Garchomp, but by the time she used those Pokemon Uxie would be too weak for it to matter.
“Just give up, Uxie!” Argenta called out. “You know that you can win. Even if you beat Garchomp, I have two other Pokemon to battle with.” Uxie almost smiled, it seemed like Argenta had read his thoughts. He momentarily wondered who was the Psychic type in his battle.
“No, I’m going to be the one to beat you!” Uxie was surprised to hear the Garchomp speak to him. To Argenta it would have been gibberish Pokespeak, but Uxie understood it just fine.
“Garchomp, Dragon Rush!“ Argenta ordered. The blue Dragon type charged forward, and surrounded itself in a hue of purple that Uxie hoped he wouldn’t have to see again for a long time. Uxie was floating again, and as Garchomp closed in Uxie used Protect. It stopped the Dragon in its tracks, but then Uxie saw that he had fallen directly into a trap. The Dragon was already charging its next attack - a Hyper Beam. There was no way Protect would work a second time so quickly; he would get hit full force.
Uxie was glad he was a Psychic type. A few feet away from Garchomp the air rippled lightly before it tore open a portal and allowed a large purple ball of energy to come through. The ball flew towards Garchomp with immense speed, and it looked like it would be a direct hit. Uxie had used Future Sight early on in the battle, and the attack had finally come to fruition. Uxie watched in near disbelief as events unfolded before him.
The Garchomp was fast. Too fast. It saw the attack out of the corner of its eye and launched itself backwards as fast as it could go. To any human the move would be invisible, and only the strongest of Pokemon would be able to even detect the movement at all. The Garchomp felt victory within its grasp. It opened its mouth to release the immense amount of energy it had stored for Hyper Beam, but then its backward movement came to an abrupt halt.
Uxie had known his Future Sight would miss. He knew he would lose the battle if he was left alone, he had seen that when he had used Future Sight in the first place. His only hope was left in Auren’s hands, and in what Auren chose to do. There were so many roads that Auren’s choices could lead him down, Auren had picked the one road that could possibly lead to vehicle. To Uxie everything happened in slow motion. The air behind Garchomp rippled in the same way it had when he had used Future Sight; the same way that always indicated Psychic energy. Through the ripple a yellow blur appeared, a blur that moved almost as quickly as Garchomp did.
Tonitrus put every bit of her strength into an Ice Punch; the timing was absolutely perfect. Her icy fist caught the Mach Pokemon in the very center of its spine, and the combined force of her attack and their opposing movements caused it to blast right through. Her hand continued forward right through Garchomp’s stomach and blasted blood, bone, and guts out of the resulting hole.
The Garchomp was dead and didn’t even know it yet. Its mouth was still open and the Hyper Beam was still going to fire when it felt its head get jerked straight back. Garchomp fired Hyper Beam straight into the air. Anyone within miles would be able to see the brilliant white light as it cleaved its way into the heavens and disrupted the cloud cover overhead. The hole allowed sun to shine through onto the battlefield, and before the clouds could reconvene Garchomp was taking its last breaths.
Tonitrus dropped to one knee with the almost-lifeless Dragon type still stuck to her arm. The Ice Punch had sapped the rest of her strength. Auren had appeared at almost exactly the same time on the other side of the field to see his plan go off perfectly. He took a quick glance at Palmer and Argenta and could tell both of them were shocked by what had transpired. However, Palmer seemed to come to his senses much faster than Argenta.
“Dragonite, Draco Meteor!” He called out. The sky darkened again, but it wasn’t because of the clouds. An immense, dark blue meteorite was careening towards Tonitrus and the Garchomp that she couldn’t quite shake off. Auren hadn’t planned for this part.
“Tonitrus, get up! Run!” It was no use. She simply didn’t have enough energy left to dodge such an incredibly strong attack. Uxie raised a hand but didn’t have enough Psychic energy to Teleport Tonitrus away. Abra had to touch something to Teleport it, and there was no way he could get there in time without getting himself killed in the process. Auren watched in horror as the Meteorite crashed into the earth.
When the dust settled, nothing was left except a massive crater. Auren fell to his knees in disbelief. Apparently the attack had completely disintegrated both Tonirtus and the Garchomp she had mortally wounded.
“What the FUCK Palmer!?” Argenta screamed, clearly distressed. She was breaking out of the momentary shock caused by Tonitrus’ attack, and she was pissed. Garchomp was almost certainly going to die from its wound, but Palmer had expedited the process.
“It was a calculated compromise. Because of Garchomp‘s sacrifice a primary threat to the group has been destroyed; Garchomp was already dead and you know it.” Palmer responded. He looked to his Dragonite and realized it wouldn’t be able to battle anymore. Draco Meteor took a lot out of the Dragon Pokemon normally, and using it when he was exhausted had caused him to pass out.
“I don’t give a shit you bastard! My Pokemon are not yours to use as you please!” She responded angrily. She reached down to grab her next Pokemon, but she had been distracted. Uxie decided to take full advantage of her momentary break in concentration and appeared in front of her. “What the fuck are you…” She began to yell. Before she could finish Uxie grabbed her head and for the first time in many years he opened his eyes. The moment their eyes met it was all over for Argenta. Before she had any time to think of what was happening she forgot everything she ever knew.
“You will be a threat no longer.” Uxie said as he let Argenta fall into an unconscious state. He turned to see that Palmer had already withdrawn Dragonite, and had released another Pokemon, a Gallade. Uxie watched as Palmer shrugged and Gallade rested his hand on Palmer’s shoulder. A second later both trainer and Pokemon were gone; Gallade had teleported them away. Uxie let out a breath.
The fight was over.
The Knowledge Pokemon finally turned his attention to Auren. He was still on his knees, and Uxie knew he was shell shocked. His eyes held a blank look, like he hadn’t even registered the events since the meteor had wiped away his closest friend.
“Where…” Auren whispered, barely audible to the nearby Psychic type.
“Auren,” Uxie begain as he started a scan that pushed his Psychic powers to the limit, “ I cannot sense her anywhere. I am so sorry. I take full responsibility for her death.”
Death. The word echoed in Auren’s head. Death. His whole being began to numb. Death. What would he do now that his closest friend was gone? His mind couldn’t handle the stress. Auren blacked out.

The world was a blur. Any onlooker would have trouble distinguishing the body that lay in the peninsula that formed the center of the pond. It would be hard for anyone to tell from ground level, but an onlooker from above could see that the pond took the shape of a crescent moon. The body moved a bit, and began to stir.
“Welcome to my domain, little one.” A soft voice, distant but clear, cut through the silence. “You are injured. Rest and allow me to heal your wounds.” For the confused visitor the world became dark once more.

A/N:
I really, really enjoyed writing this chapter. I hope I did a pretty good job conveying a sense of battle because I tried my best. I got to open a few more story lines here as well. A lot of this was completely spur of the moment, but all of it works together pretty well for future chapters. I hope you enjoyed reading this one as much as I enjoyed writing it.
I think this one took me three weeks to get out. The next chapter will have a couple of flashbacks that I am really looking forward to writing. There are twists and turns ahead, to be sure!
Oh, and anthophilia is apparently a love of flowers. I had to look that one up, and I think that’s close enough.
