Rain:
Chapter 8: Pain

Jet sighed heavily as he stared out into space. After two months, Rain was still missing, and Spike and Faye were at each other\'s throats.

\"Gah! You are such an asshole! Stay out of my business, I can take care of myself!\" Faye\'s voice shrieked throughout the ship.

\"Just admit that you need my help and get over it!\" Spike shouted.

Jet sighed again. \"Will you two shut up!\" he barked.

\"Mars!\" Ed cried.

The three adults looked to the thirteen year old before them. \"Mars, Ed?\" Jet asked.

\"Rain-Rain\'s ship! It\'s on Mars!\" Ed sxplained.

\"What?!\" they all cried.

\"Yup! Apparently, it\'s been there for six weeks. It was registered under a different name and the firewall around the program was difficult.\"

\"Ed, do you know where on Mars?

\"Of course! Ed knows all!\" She giggled.

\"Do you know why she\'s on Mars?\" Spike asked.

\"Because she was taken there.\"

\"By who?\" Jet asked.

\"The ship is not registered under her name, but it\'s being held by the Red Dragon.\"

Spike froze. \"What?\"

\"The syndicate?\" Faye asked.

\"Yeah! I searched for her in any files and she\'s registered at a syndicte controlled hospital with a gunshot wound and several others,\" Ed explained.

\"Is she alright?\" Jet asked.

\"Stable condition. Apparently, this was done for one of the members of the syndicate who owed her former boss, Mao Yenrai.\"

The three gasped and looked to each other. \"Wait a minute, she worked for Yenrai?\" Faye exclaimed.

\"Yeah, when she was called Eve. She was a bodyguard. The day he was assasinated, she was missing,\" Ed said as files appeared on the screen.

\"You know, have you ever noticed that we know nothing about her?\" Faye commented.

\"I knew her, long time ago, when she was Eve, the red dragon.\"

\"Really? What was she like back then?\" Faye asked.

\"She was... closed off, but she always looked sad. She worked a lot with Vicious as an assassin or as a courier,\" Spike stated.

\"Wait, Vicious? Wasn\'t he on Callisto when we were?\" Ed asked.

Faye stopped. \"Yeah, he called Grin.\"

\"He was there to pick up red eye... You don\'t think?\" Spike looked to Jet.

\"Ed, where is this hospital?\" Jet asked.

Rain groaned as she opened her eyes, her vision hazy with the drugs slowly dripping into her viens. \"Oh, I screwed up, big time,\" she moaned.

\"I would dissagree, but that\'s just me,\" a dark voice said.

Rain glared at Vicious as best she could. \"I hate you!\" she growled.

\"Why?\" he asked.

\"Why? Why, he asks me. I must be drugged if you don\'t know! You ruined my l Do Do I have to sing it for you?\" she snarled.

\"If it would make you happy,\" he said as he smirked.

Rain turned her face away from him. \"Where am I?\" she asked softly.

\"A hospital.\"

\"That\'s obvious, Vicious! Where? Which hospital?\"

\"Mars, Killingsford Hospital.\"

Rain laughed. \"How\'d I get so lucky? Why didn\'t you just let me bleed in that alley with Raven? Why am I alive?\"

\"You know I couldn\'t let you die.\"

\"Why? Because you think you love me? You don\'t love anything, you don\'t have a heart to love with.\"

\"You\'re wrong.\"

\"How am I wrong? Even if you do love me, I don\'t love you! I hate you, Vicious. You made my life hell from day one! You sent me on the riskiest and most inane missions, I wasn\'t there for you to use as a delivery service, and then because of your stupid jobs, I became hunted! And when I was assigned away from you, you kidnap me and kill Mao! Are you stupid? Why wouldn\'t I hate you?!\"

Vicious averted his gaze from her and left the room. \"I\'ll be back.\"

Rain rolled her eyes and looked out the window. It was then a blast rocked the building. Rain attempted to sit up, and looked to her door, but her body was heavy with painkillers. She then watched as Vicious and few other syndicate boys ran in front of her door.

\"The intruders are making thier way to this floor, sir!\" one man said.

\"I heard Spike was among them, but isn\'t he dead?\" another asked.

\"It\'s an imposter, they must be here for Eve,\" Vicious stated.

\"Damn cowboys! None of the alarms are working!\" a third man said as he ran to Vicious\' side.

The lights flickered before shutting off completely.

\"They cut the lights!\" one exclaimed.

\"Make sure they don\'t reach this door!\" Vicious ordered.

The three young men nodded and saluted before running off. Rain felt lightheaded and fell back against her pillow. \"Jet...\" she murmered as she fell into unconciousness.

Jet ran up the stairs, Spike ahead of him and Faye behind him. He watched as Spike tossed a few gas grenades into the hallway and listened to the hacking cough of a good ten syndicate boys. According to Ed\'s map, they were on the right floor. He glanced to Faye, who nodded and followed him and Spike into the smoke filled hall, guns blaring.

After a good twenty minutes of firefights and running, they came upon a heavily guarded door. he looked to Spike and watched as he fired off five shots, kocking four of the guards to the ground with wounds. The fifth guard glared at Spike, a sword unsheathed. Jet had never seen the guy before, but from the way Faye and Spike glared at the man, he assumed that he was Vicious.

Spike ran out and fired off three shots at his old nemisis. Vicious took one shot in the shoulder and leapt at the lanky cowboy, his sword unsheathed.

\"You bastard! How could you kidnap her like that!\" Spike snapped.

\"She belongs to me. I do what I want with what\'s mine,\" Vicous shot back as he attacked.

Meanwhile, Faye and Jet had smashed the door open to find an unconcious Rain lying on a hospital bed. Her hair stuck to her pale, sweat covered face. Jet snatched the I.V that dripped into her arm and ripped it off, tossing it aside. She had lost wieght, her body looking frail in the darkened light. He glanced to Faye and saw the same look of dispair on hace.ace. Rain looked like she had been through hell and back agian.

\"We have to get her out of here,\" Faye gasped.

\"From the looks of it, she\'s been heavily drugged,\" Jet stated as he looked at the bottle that now lay on the floor.

\"What has he done to her, Jet?\" Faye asked.

\"I don\'t know, but we will get her out of it.\"

\"How are we going to get her out of here?\" she asked.

Jet took out his communicator and pressed a few buttons. \"Ed? We found her,\" Jet said.

\"There\'s a fire escape at the end of the hall,\" Ed\'s voice spoke.

Jet nodded and turned off the communicator. He then lifted Rain gently into his arms and looked to Faye. \"Let\'s get Spike and get out of here.\"
