Whistling a catchy tone, Rio rolled the unconscious bodies of his friends down the airway strip, towards the ship prepping to take flight.
“I sure as hell would love watch this black-haired beauty gets his hands on you, Rio,” Chaz said, trailing the back of his dirty finger down Riki’s bronze cheek. “He must have been pretty damn pissed when you proved to be the greedy, backstabbing, bitch I knew you to always be.”
Rio chuckled. Whipping out a gun, he pressed the cold barrel to Chaz’s forehead. “Greedy? Yeah, I may be that, but he’s still my friend and fuck if I’ll let you molest him while he’s unconscious. So I’d suggest backing the fuck up. That’s if you wanna keep what small amount of brain matter you have in that head of yours.”
Chaz glared at him, but backed away.
“We had a deal, Rio,” Chaz growled, holding his hands up and away from his weapons holstered at his sides.
“Touch him again—any of them—and I’ll void our ‘agreement’.” Rio lowered his gun, but didn’t put it away. “Just remember what I told you. We make sure Kirin pays us both the amount he promised. Not a credit less.”
Rio hadn’t lied when he told Riki he needed all his players in place. He hadn’t wanted to betray Riki or the others, but the chance of getting Riki out in the open might not have come again.
He had thought of bringing Riki into the plan, of asking him to partner up with him—to pretend to have been captured, and allow Rio to turn him over to Kirin. But after hearing how money really didn’t matter to Riki, not in the sense that he’d be able to use it because of the Blondie Elite he was paired up with. Rio couldn’t take the chance his idea would be rejected.
When Kirin had called, Rio had only seconds to commit to his quickly hatched plan. He had told Kirin he could pick Riki up in two hours; he had also made a side deal and sold V, Lilly and Sky as consolation prizes, only because it wouldn’t have done him any good to leave them behind. There were still Bison members running around in Ceres, and Rio feared they’d return to the hangout, figure out what happened, and come after him.
It wasn’t as if Kirin would really get them, Rio just wanted to get as much money out of the bastard before Kirin was brought down.
Doing what he did, Riki had no choice but to play. But, Rio wasn’t going to just hand Riki over, which was why he changed the drug he had used on the others, to the one he he’d shot Riki with.
Leaving V, Sky and Lilly defenseless made Rio uncomfortable, but everything had to be just so if his plan were to work. If V woke up too soon, he’d pick his handcuffs off in seconds, and get Sky free.
Rio shuddered, thinking about what Sky would do.
Lilly's strange hypnotizing, sexy, smell would render him, his men, and Kirin’s men helpless while Riki kicked their asses. Thus the reason why Rio made sure only Riki would wake up soon.
He would have just enough time to get his coin, and already be on his next target before Riki knew he was gone. It was all in the timing, and his was running out.
And his plans relied on Kirin being punctual.
“There he is.” Chaz pointed.
Rio tried to keep his disgust to himself, as Kirin strolled up like owned the place and his trigger finger grew mighty itchy when the prick lifted a long lock of Riki’s raven hair to his nose, inhaling deeply.
However, Rio did point his weapon in Kirin’s face when the dick unbuttoned Riki’s shirt. “You can’t be thinking of touching the merchandise before payin’, would you?”
Kirin wasn’t alone, and his five guards pulled their weapons as well. However, the clicks of them cocking their weapons weren’t the only ones to be heard.
Rio smiled. “Sorry, boss, but it looks like I brought more guys than you.” His seven men emerged from the shadows. “My gun, added with my boy, Chaz’s, plus theirs? You don’t think you could win, do you? And if we did throw down, my first shot will be aimed at you, Kirin.”
He didn’t make it a habit of killing his clients, but there were some exceptions to the rule.
Kirin nervously laughed. Putting his hand on his guard’s arm, Kirin made him lower his weapon. The others followed suit. “Now, now. You’ll have to excuse the help, and myself. To see this find specimen up close, I’m afraid my manners ran away from me.”
“Uh huh.” Rio picked up the tablet lying next to Riki. “The money. My share, as well as Chaz’s, please.”
“What?! I won’t—“
Rio fired a warning shot above Kirin’s head, cutting off his protest. “We both brought him in, so we both get paid. Not unless you plan on stiffing him?”
“It would be bad for your health if you did,” Chaz softly said.
The reputation of his guild of brothers was well known when it came to what they did to those who cheated them. Killing a client because they were assholes was one thing, but they never killed a temporary boss if they weren’t paid. No, they made sure they were left alive, leaving them with the wish that they had been murdered.
“N-No,” Kirin stuttered. “I have no problems paying you both.”
“Good.” Rio grinned, holding out the tablet. “The amount is already on there. I just need your hand print and voice recognition for the transfer.”
Kirin took it, but his hand hesitated over the device. “Wait. This figure…”
Rio narrowed his eyes. “Full payment, Kirin. After this I’m on my way to finish the job, and I won’t have the option of sticking around to collect.” Out of the corner of his eye, Rio saw Riki stir.
“If I fail, my people will refund your money.” Well, not the full amount or even half of it, but Kirin would get something back.
Chaz moved close to his side, and whispered, “What the fuck are you talking about, Rio? What other job—motherfucker, you better not have taken the contract to hit an Elite! Please, tell me you didn’t!”
“Then I won’t,” Rio replied.
“Stupid! Fucking stupid, Rio!” Chaz hissed.
“I consider myself to have an above average intelligence, thank you very much.” Rio grinned. “Besides, I have a plan.”
Chaz shook his head. “I can’t let you do it. They’ll fucking kill you, Rio. Do you know what will happen if you die? What will happen to me if you were to be killed and I did nothing to stop it?”
“It’s done,” Kirin said, handing Rio the tablet. “The credits have been transferred.”
“Authenticate it,” Rio ordered, giving the device to one of his men.
“Damn it, Rio!”
“I don’t plan on dying, Chaz.” Rio’s man nodded, signaling the money was in his account.
“I want you to walk out of here, and then run. Get off world fast,” Rio whispered before he ‘ah huh’d’ when Kirin made a move towards Riki.
“I need to remove his tracking device before you take him,” Rio said.
Chaz grabbed his arm. Looking him in the eyes, Rio whispered again, “Run. Get off world, Chaz, because the shit is about to fly.”
Regardless of how much of an asshole Chaz was, or how he playfully teased about murdering him just a minute ago, Rio didn’t want his fellow assassin caught up in his crap. He had a fifty percent chance of getting out alive if things turned sour, while Chaz had none.
“If you disable Riki’s—“
“I know.” Rio looked at his guard, and then glared when his silent command was ignored. Finally, his other men grabbed Chaz by the arms and legs and carried him away shouting.
“Forgive him,” Rio said, accepting a device from his man, the one that had refused to obey him. “He wasn’t too pleased to hear I’d do the job he’d been too scared to even think about.”
“Ah,” Kirin said, his attention fully on Riki than Chaz being carted away. “What is that?”
“This?” Rio said, holding up the machine. “It’s a scrambler that overloads trackers till it basically self-destructs,” Rio lied, grinning. “You heard about pet rings, right?”
“Y-yeah. I know everything to know about them,” Kirin said, lifting his chin.
Rio loved when people pretended to be smarter than they were, made his job so much easier. “Good. All I need to do is cover Riki’s ring, and it’ll kill the GPS. It’ll shatter the metal and fall off.” Or in this case would set off alarms so loud Riki’s partner would have to be deaf not to hear it.
“And you’ll do the same with them?” Kirin stepped up to the stretchers where the others lay.
“Yeah,” Rio said though clenched teeth when Kirin caressed V’s arm, then traced a fingertip across Lilly’s lips.
“Why don’t you come closer and watch,” Rio called out, stopping Kirin from touching Sky.
Riki’s hand moved when Rio placed the device over his ring, and Rio prayed the mongrel wouldn’t wake up yet. He needed to remove all of the rings for his plan to work.
The small machine hummed when Rio activated it, the same time Riki let out a soft groan.
Rio smiled when a telling snap sounded, and when he removed the device Riki’s ring fell off. “Tough sucker. Riki’s mate spared no expense.”
Moving to Lilly and Sky, Rio removed their ‘collars’, but stalled when he turned to V. “Sorry, buddy,” Rio muttered. When he had done his search, and located where V’s pet ‘ring’ had been he had faltered a little on the ride over.
A little.
“This will hurt for only a second.” A few flips of switches, Rio’s box-like device shot out a circle of razor sharp teeth. Moving V’s pants down until the skin of his hip was revealed, Rio took a deep breath and stabbed the instrument in, and flinched when V woke up screaming.
“Hold him!” Rio shouted as the tall mongrel began to thrash. “Fast, fast, fast! Got it!” Extracting the device, Rio smiled at the small chip clamped in the teeth at the bloody end.
Dropping it, Rio bowed and backed away. “My part in this is done. If I succeed, you’ll never hear from me again.”
Ignoring Kirin’s thanks, Rio stopped at Riki’s table in time to see the mongrel open his eyes.
“It’s your turn, Riki,” Rio whispered. “I sent you back-up. Now it’s up to you to make sure Kirin doesn’t get you or our boys onto his ship.”
Looking over his shoulder, Rio made sure Kirin was still gushing over V’s pretty looks, and ordering his men to hold the groggy struggling violet-haired mongrel down, before slipping a needle from his pocket.
“With this,” Rio said, injecting Riki in the arm, “they can’t take you down with any kind of tranquilizer, no matter how many times they shoot you.”
“Rio…” Riki frowned, blinking the weariness from his eyes. “What the fuck…”
“It’s all for the thrill of the game, my friend.” Rio grinned, patting Riki on the chest. “Sorry for the whole ‘selling you to make a profit’, but it I never intended for the guy to leave with you.”
Backing up, Rio saluted Riki. “See you around, Riki.”
Turning around, Rio made his way quickly to the exit. “Now all I need to do is get into Eos.”

In the lavished exterior of his living room, Iason and six of his Blondie brethren stilled in shock as all of their cells emitted ear piercing screechs one after the other.
“Impossible…” Orphe said. “He couldn’t have removed it!”
“What’s happening?” Iason heard Jade ask, seated next to Gideon.
“I knew this would happen!” Marcus shouted, glaring at Iason as he stood. “I should have never allowed Keita out of Eos!”
Rage vibrated throughout Iason. “Raoul, contact Katze,” he said softly.
“Katze would never have helped them,” Raoul said. “He is far too intelligent—“
“And it is that mental capability that would make their escape successful, if he is in league with them,” Iason fairly growled. Riki was smart, but lacked the resources Katze had.
“Lilly is at the shipping dock,” Mikhale announced.
“As is Sky,” Aisha angrily said.
Iason hoped he was wrong, however, with a few swipes of his fingertips to the touch screen at his side brought up Riki’s location, his anger rose. “Orphe—“
“They will not get away,” Orphe said through clenched teeth.
Iason glanced at Gideon. “Ground all ships, aero cars, everything. I want nothing in the sky.”
Gideon stood and bowed his head. “It will be done.”
“What’s going on?” Jade whispered, looking up at Gideon.
“Your sire has decided to leave you, and is trying to escape with the rest of his mongrel crew once again,” Iason answered, rising.
“No!” Jade shouted. “He wouldn’t leave me!”
“And he won’t be,” Iason replied darkly, the room empty except for Raoul, Gideon and himself, the other Blondies having already stormed out.
“Katze is in Eos, Iason,” Raoul said. “He hasn’t seen Riki or talked to him today.”
“Cal,” Iason calmly called out.
The young Furniture appeared instantly. “Yes, Master Iason?”
“Ready my car. I have a mongrel to retrieve.” Iason stared at the white light blinking furiously on the city grid on his screen. “Question Katze, Raoul. I want to know exactly where he’s been, who he spoke with, and if he held any suspicions that Riki and his gang was attempting to run.”
“He won’t get away, Iason,” Raoul said before turning away to do his bidding.
“No, he won’t,” Iason whispered. His trust broken, Iason would make sure Riki never stepped a foot out of Eos again.
