Author Note: Thanks Kira for
your support and help! Also this fic takes after another fic I got in mind
where Iason DOES save Riki
from Guy and they live. I got a great idea of it, follfollowing the rescue…
writers block! Once I get over that I’ll get working on that.
It was a normal morning of a
normal day for Iason Mink. Well, it started that way. He'd gotten up for his morning
shower, leaving his pet to slumber awhile longer after having exhausted him the
night before, like always. Once done he strolled into the bedroom in his glory,
waking his pet softy. He found out long ago how to wake him without causing him
to be cranky the entire day and resulting in the pet being punished for waking
on the wrong side of the bed. That was just one of his pet's little quirks
Iason loved about him. Once Iason was dressed and his pet awake enough to make
the trip to the table for company they made their way to the already laid out
food prepared for them by Daryl, Iason's furniture. Iason was calmly
eating his meal while his pet, Riki, murmured about
taking a dip to relax his sore 'spots' over his body. This brought the
Blondie's lips tugging in humored smile at his not so awake pet, who was
definitely not a morning person.
It was during this time that
Iason Mink's day took a sharp turn to anything but ordinary with a very unusual
gift delivery. From the moment Daryl informed him a large delivery had arrived
he was sure that something was amiss. If only it had been. An ambassador from
one of the planets at the far end of a neighboring sector had sent him a gift.
His planet had been having difficulty with trade with Amoi
until Iason had assisted him in straightening out a
few problems. The one thing that made
him aware that this was not a normal gift was the fact it camethe the form of
several crates. And one of the smaller crates in particular had two words
spelled out in large bold: LIVE ANIMAL.
For a Blon it it was obvious
that Iason was very much caught off guard and very much surprised. And that
combined with the many crates peaked Riki’s curiosity the most. Enough to wake
the mongrel turned pet out of his sleepy world. He
approached behind his Blondie master to see exactly what had him
so… fazed. On a pure surge of energy Riki sprung at that one crate with speed
that enabled him to unfasten and slide open the top panel before his master
could grab hold of him.
They both froze. Master caught before a tongue
lashing at his pet and Pet’s mouth open in small O. Staring up at them both
with wide crystal blue eyes was a white puppy with big floppy ears. Grey with
black spot or striped markings covered one ear and part of its head. The puppy’s
large legs and lower body were hidden from the shredded paper that acted as its
bedding and potting paper. The silence was finally broken when Daryl crept into
the puppy’s view and viscera. With a lithe “Roooff” It hopped out of its crate
and was scrambling toward a very shocked and frightened Daryl who had never
seen such an animal before.
Daryl immediately lunged
behind Iason who had dropped Riki who was now lunging to grab the small animal
tripping over its own feet before Iason could catch it. With flexibility that
always amazed the Blondie the mongrel avoided his grasps with a quick roll and
turn, puppy tucked in his arms. Springing to his feet he began to play a
dangerous game with his Blondie master, keeping the crates between him and his
master.
“We’re keeping. Right.” It
was not a question and a statement that annoyed the master to no end.
“We? What gave you the idea
of that?” Iason watched for a moment his pet let his guard down to grab Riki. The circle of crates was not much, but enough to allow
Riki to keep Iason from grabbing him. Daryl was not going anywhere near the
animal. That was obvious from how he had fled to another room.
“Iason Mink not accepting a
gift? Now that’s something to cause a stir!” Riki held the pup who was finding
this uncomfortable enough to Iason’s face across the crates. That gave Iason
his opening to run around and catch his mongrel pet. Riki couldn’t get out of
his grasp quickly enough or risk dropping his precious charge. One arm was wrapped
firmly around Riki’s middle while the other grabbed the hair on the back of
Riki’s skull. With Riki screaming he carried him easily to the crate.
“Put it back in there. Now.” He leaned to make sure Riki could not simply drop it
onto the ground.
Riki tighten his hold on the
puppy, clutching it to his chest. “NO! You’ll just give it some other Blondie
or who knows what!”
Iason tightened his grip on
Riki’s hair to the point it was painful, not just uncomfortable anymore. “I
don’t have time for this Riki.”
“Come on, let me keep it.”
Why Riki was getting into this much trouble over such a tiny animal when he
really didn’t have a single clue as to what it was, or what to do with it.
Perhaps because those big blue eyes just tugged at him for a reason he couldn’t
figure out at the moment.
“Please…” He whispered
softly. A word he rarely used if ever.
Now seeing this was not just
a mere act of momentary disobedience from his pet, the Blondie’s hard gaze
softened and he slowly relaxed his grip. Gently he set his pet’s feet onto the
floor and let go of his hair. Riki spun around and stared into his master’s
eyes defiantly. The two stared each
other down for a few moments, a silent negotiation between them. “It can stay
for the time being, but now it’s your responsibility. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yeah, Yeah, I got it!” Riki
yelled as he turned and strolled away toward the other crates. “What’s in these
anyway?” Holding the puppy who was now trying to nibble his chin in one arm, he
attempted to open another crate with the other. A hand firmly held the top of
the crate Riki was attempting to open and held it firmly closed.
“These are not for you Riki,
you’ve got dog, now go.” There was no argument in Iason’s voice. His patience was
wearing thin for Riki, and Riki knew it.
“Alright! Damn it.” Pouting
as a kid who just had his candy taken away he went to the long couch near the
tall windows showing the balcony. From there he began to unknowingly bond with
the small life with blue eyes staring back up at him.
Iason took a very deep breath
and let it out slowly, a very large headache was beginning to set in. Seeing a folder encased in plastic attached
to the side of the largest of the crates Iason withdrew exactly what Riki had
just gotten him into. In a very long and utterly boring letter the ambassador
explained that the dog was of the Dane breed. A rare oddity among even its home
planet for its crystal blue eyes and pure white skin. From a breeder related to
the ambassador assured the highest quality of genes. Iason paused to look up at
Riki and this new, if perhaps temporary addition to his household, and knew
that this was a very important gift. A living treasure on its planet had been
sent across to sectors to him simply for doing his job.
Going back to the letter it
explained the contents of the other crates: food in the largest crate, and
divided among the remaining four crates were bedding, care equipment, and, most
of all training essentials for the fact this was a high rise city apartment and
not some lot with room for the dog to easily go and do its business. But in case
things went bad in training he had left a very capable trainers contact
information. Adding it all up had Iason quite frustrated. But the last sentence
caught him off guard, his gaze then fixing on Riki.
May your rumored wild and restless pet have something
to occupy his time.
Riki soon noticed that Iason
was staring at him. “What?!” Iason didn’t answer him, but simply tucked the
letter into his coat and headed toward the door.
“Daryl.” His furniture meet him
at the door. “Move the crates into Riki’s room and organize their contents
accordingly.” He paused before exiting his penthouse to look directly at Riki.
“You will help him, only, and only, when he needs it.” With that Iason left,
making his way to elevator. Mussing that Riki was probably already diving to
investigate the contents of the crates before he had even left the level. How
right he was.
As soon as the door had shut Riki had placed the puppy onto the floor and sprinted
toward the crates. He immediately was opening the largest of them. It stood
about two feet tall, two feet wide, and four feet long. To his dismay there
were only huge bags of what look like to be the puppy’s food supply for the
meantime.
Daryl stood by, quite
accustomed to Riki not listening to their master when he had left. Also because
a very small body of fur was dancing around Riki’s feet. Riki made a mental
note to get Daryl over his ignorant fear of the puppy. Riki knew what it was
from the few stray wild dogs that lived in the ally ways and dumps of Ceres he
had seen. But those were a far cry from what was following him around as he
made his way to the next crate.
It was a two foot square box,
containing what look like wrapped sausages, as well as toys, four shampoo
bottles, grooming tools, and a few books laying packed on to of a folded bed.
Riki took a ball and a stuffed animal that he found squeaked, throwing them
away to get the puppy out from under his feet. What followed was pure pandemonium.
The puppy tripped over its own large and bulky legs, following the ball that
just happened to bounce toward Daryl. The grey eyed young man shrieked then
turned running, and sadly enticed the puppy to follow. Riki was laughing in
seconds and made no attempt to help poor Daryl.
“Riki! Please take it away!”
Daryl screamed as he darted past Riki, a cumbersume
puppy ten feet behind him following devotedly. Riki made no move, laughing so
hard he slid right down to the floor. Eventually Daryl figured out the puppy
couldn’t climb, jumping onto the couch. The puppy tried and tried but slipped
and tripped over its own legs each time. Riki made his way to the situation,
taking this as the time to show Daryl that the puppy was nothing to fear.
“You’ve never seen a dog,
have you Daryl.” Riki was grinning ear to ear asking the frightened furniture.
“No! I… I heard stories, long
time ago, about how vi... vicious they are.” Grey wide
eyes stared innocently at him. (YES, people DO act like this, I got proof!
Lol.)
Riki shook his head, he knew exactly
what dogs Daryl was speaking of. The only known somewhat commonly on their
planet. So the puppy below was something to cause a stir, and that was
something Riki couldn’t wait for. “Those stories are of the street dogs. This
one, I think is far tamer. I’m like the street dogs, but this one is an in
front of you is like a class A pet.” Riki didn’t want to put it that way, but
it was the only thing he could think of that Daryl would understand.
“So it won’t hurt me?” Daryl
slowly sat down onto the couch, but still now letting the puppy touch him.
“Hell no! I’ve seen those
street dogs, this thing is pathetic compared to
those!” Riki picked up the puppy and sat next to Daryl.
“You’ve seen them?!” Wide
light grey eyes stared back at Riki’s dark ones.
Riki nodded, taking Daryl’s
hand to the puppy’s head. It tried to nibble and Daryl tried to take his hand
back, but Riki confidently kept him from doing that. “It just wants to play, it
won’t hurt you.” Of course, this was a pure guest, the dog was behaving
completely different from any of the dogs Riki had seen. But he wasn’t going to tell Daryl that. Daryl
sfellfell in puppy love, following Riki’s example in how to pet it.
“Come on,
let’s get this stuff into my room. I want to get a look at those books.” Riki
put the puppy down and they both headed toward the crates. The puppy finally an took interest in the stuffed toy with a head and four
legs. Daryl and Riki laughed as they unloaded the crates, watching the puppy
flip and flop the toy as it bounced around them. The large crate had three forty
pounds bags of puppy dog food. For once Riki wished Iason
had stayed, he was still sore, having not had the chance to soothe his muscles.
Daryl wasn’t having much luck either and in the end they both had to work to
carry each bag to his room.
Riki left the toys, bed and
books in the main room. Everything else they moved to his room shortly
afterwards. Riki then helped Daryl move the crates once they found how heavy
they actually were, even unloaded. After an hour of laboring work, they sat on
the couch and Riki started to flip through the book focused on care. Two hours
later, Riki had a sinking feeling in his stomach having just read over the
feeding schedule demanded, and at how large the dog would grow. Larger than any
street dog he had seen and when full grown it would weigh the same as him in
body weight. And looking at the thick book still on the table just over
training, Riki just now began to feel the daunting task a head of him.
What the hell had he gotten
his ass into this time? Leaving the book on the table, he went to his room to get
the bowls the dog would need, and headed toward the kitchen. “Hey Daryl, I got
a job for you!” A small little grin fell on his face and Daryl knew Riki was up
to something.
Daryl eyed Riki wearily as
food and water were placn thn the ground for the puppy, which proceeded to make
a mess in its haste to eat. “What exactly do you have for me to do?”
“The puppy might make a
few….. accidents until its potty trained, so you got to clean it up when it
does it. I’m going to go over the training book that has more details on
exactly the hell I’m suppose to train a dog to shit in one place, but till
then, you got clean up duties” Riki’s dark grin grew and Daryl could only groan.
Riki explained the feeding
schedule to Daryl, four meals a day. Food had to be elevated to the high of the
dog’s shoulders, well once they figured out how to do that, to the dog’s
should. Should Iason… detain Riki for any on, on, Riki was counting on Daryl to
do it for him.
Once this was done Daryl went
to doing his duties around the penthouse, and Riki went to go take a shower,
his soak in the hot tub would have to weight. Of course puppy in tow, even to
the bathroom and waited for Riki to finish his shower. Then once he was dressed
he flopped down onto the couch in the main room and proceeded to read for a few
more hours, the puppy having exhausted itself and needing time to digest its
meal fell asleep on the floor next to him. Soon it was feeding time again and
Riki brought out the potty pads that had been packed under the bed in one of
the crates. He needed to talk to Iason about where the dog should be trained to
go. Since there were no grass areas
anywhere near Eos. There were options but they had their own back draws. He
didn’t want to have to give up the puppy, but he didn’t know how far Iason
would go to make things possible for the dog to stay. Especially since Iason
most likely didn’t know just how big the puppy would grow. Twice the size of any
of the dogs seen running around on Amoi for sure.
Riki also learned first hand
just how much energy the puppy had, and finally realize it was a she. A simple
flop the puppy was stunned clueless at how it had ended up that way and Riki
realize it then. By the time Iason was due to come home, Riki was tired. He had
been playing with the pup for over an hour non stop when he finally collapsed
onto the couch. His body sore from the constant demanded play from the puppy.
Riki soon fell asleep on the
couch not long before Iason returned home with a visitor.
