Yuki\'s Realization

Chapter #1—Never The Same

The day seemed pretty normal in the Sohma house. Three of the teen age residents, Yuki, Kyo and Tohru, would wake up to go to school together the way they usually do. It was summer now and so the three would wear their lighter based uniforms. Tohru with her white sailor T-shirt with blue lining and her blue skirt to go with it as well as the socks and shoes to complete the outfit and Yuki and Kyo, with their White T-shirts and their black pants, with the black lining on the sleaves. Yuki would wear the blue tie that goes with it while Kyo would go without, with the top botton undone as well. They went to school with their friends as well as two other members of the Sohma family by the name of Hatsuharu and Momitchi. Both of these Sohma’s were a year younger than Tohru, Yuki and Kyo and Momitchi was a very short boy with bright blond hair who chose to wear the girl’s uniform instead of the boys; and Hatsuharu had white spikey hair with a black hair line who would wear his uniform with the shirt sleaves rolled up and the first two bottons undone as well as have three pendants on as well as three ear piercings on each ear, but at least he wore the boys uniform…This morning, however, would be Kyo’s last pleasant morning…or so the other’s thought.

The morning was fine and the school day progressed as normal because of the attitude everyone gave toward eachother. The students looking up to Yuki, The Yuki Fan Club girls bugging Tohru again, Hana and Uo threatening them with Hana’s electric waves, the students bugging Kyo and then school ended. Today Uo wanted to play bad mitten again so Yuki and the others joined. It was all for one and so Yuki, Kyo and Tohru where on one side while Uo, Hana, Hatsuharu and Momitchi were on the other side. No one was on teams because it was just an enduranse trial where the last person to calapses from being tired wins.

“Let orange top serve it.” Uo said in her usual cocky tone.

“Why do I gotta do it!” Kyo yelled just out of reaction to being pointed out.

“Because you know you can’t get the birdy past me if you tried.” Uo said and Kyo shook his fist before he growled out of anger and held his hand out to Tohru who passed him the birdy.

“But don’t cry when you miss it Yankie!” Kyo yelled and she smiled.

At that moment everything around the tenis court seemed to slow down as Kyo threw up the birdie. Everyone got prepaired but then the sound of screeching tires ruined the moment and the fense crashed down right next to Momitchi who jumped back beside Hatsuharu and then crashed the net down just as Kyo jumped out to push Tohru out of the way. She nearly slammed right into Yuki if he didn’t catch her without hugging her but then the sound of the car striking Kyo because he didn’t have time to move.

“KYO-KUN!” Tohru screamed as his bones snapped before he struck the windshield and was flung over the car like nothing and hitting the pavement hard and when he struck he didn’t move at all. “OH NO! KYO-KUN!” Tohru screamed, running to his side.

“Oh my gosh…a drunk driver…” Hana said in a way like as if all words have left her as she stared at the car as it kept on going before hitting a wall and then to Kyo.

“Kyo! He got hit to save Tohru…Oh no, what do we do! Hatori’s not around! WAAAAA!” Momitchi said as he started to cry.

“Holly hell…Orange Top, are you okay.” Uo said, coming right up beside Kyo as well and the other’s followed only to find that Kyo was bleeding from the left side of his forehead with a really bad break in his skull to the point where his face was almost completely covered in blood.

Yuki was worried but he refused to show it but the more he looked at Kyo the more he seemed to feel sorry for Kyo and ashamed in himself so he looked around him for the closest phone but couldn’t find one but his attension drove back to them as Uo began to rant and rave about taking Kyo to the hospital and Tohru looked worried and unsure what they could do.

“…Um…we would take him to the hospital but it’s a family rule that we are to leave him to Hatori but unfortunately we don’t have a phone.” Yuki said as Momitchi continued to cry.

“I brought a cell phone.” Hana said and so Hatsuharu used it to call Hatori.

“What do we do until Hatori gets here?” Tohru asked.

“Don’t move him. Leave everything to Hatori.” Yuki said and it was maybe five minutes later that Hatori came driving up, speeding slightly and screeched to a stop. Hatori came out of the car in a hurry.

“Ha’ri! Ha’ri! Kyo got hit by the guy that hit that wall!” Momitchi said in a worried way as he cried.

“Don’t get ahead of yourselves.” Hatori said and so he took Yuki, Hatsuharu, Momitchi and Kyo with him. The girls wanted to go but unfortunately Hana and Uo couldn’t go so Tohru had to deside as to wether she wanted to go or confort Hana and Uo.

“You should go with him so that you can tell us wether or not he’s okay.” Uo said and Hana nodded with agreement.

“…Uh…okay…” Tohru said before she rode with the Sohma’s back to Shigure’s house.

Hatori carried Kyo up to his room and started his treatment and Shigure looked shocked at the sight of Kyo bleeding so badly he had drips of red on his floor as well as blood all over Hatori’s front. Yuki had to explain everything to Shigure and by the time he was finished explaining Hatori had finished so it took at least a good half an hour or so. When it was all finished Hatori came back downstairs where everyone was sitting and just waiting for him to come back with news on Kyo. Hatori looked at them with his professional stare before he finally let out a frown.

“Well…Good news is that he’ll be alright. He will be a deep coma for nearly a week or so…Bad news is that he won’t even be able to get up for nearly two to three months.” Hatori said and Tohru and Momitchi gasped while the other three were silently shocked. “The worst that could happen is that Kyo could lose some of his memory due to how much blood he lost before I could get here…Which means that he won’t even be able to feed himself. His fingers, his right arm, both legs and three of his ribs were broken besides the crack on the side of his temple.”

“And he suffered all of this because of the fact that it was a drunk driver that hit him while he lunged out to rescue Tohru-kun?” Shigure asked and Tohru hung her head. “This is not your fault Tohru-kun. Every one would have saved you just like you would have done for them.”

“Yes Handa-san. Kyo lunged out the way the rest of us would have but he did it first. In the end he got hit but he doesn’t regret one moment of it. It’s a pain he felt was worth it because he likes you so much…I would have done the exact same thing.” Yuki said and she looked over at him as he was hanging his head like as if what he said was the truth but it also felt like he regretted having said some of the softer things he felt about Kyo. “…Understand Handa-san that Kyo would not want you to greave or feel sad over what happened because he chose to save you. He likes protecting you, after all.”

“…But he doesn’t have to go through so much trouble like that and now he’s hurt.” Tohru said and it was then that Hatsuharu gently put his hand on her shoulder.

“You think he’s gunna be troubled by this? His definition of ‘being troubled’ is far different from any of ours. I think he would be more troubled and more hurt, from a cirtain point of view, if you told him not to protect you.” He said and the more Tohru thought about it, the more she began to understand.

The more Yuki thought about it, the more he seemed to admire that trait in Kyo as well. No matter how much he has gotten hurt by people he cares about he took a big risk to save Tohru. To be completely honist, the more Yuki seemed to open up and talk to Tohru about the things he admires in Kyo the more he seems to grow to like Kyo. It’s not to often that Yuki fights with Kyo intensions on actually being mad at him, but merely to be able to talk to him with out having to show his soft side but how much longer will he be able to hold in all of these other emotions he has locked away. When everyone went home for the night Tohru went upstairs and she stood at his doorway, just looking at him and Yuki stepped up behind her as she began to tear up so he gently put his hands on her shoulders and leaned his head upon her right shoulder.

“Please Handa-san…don’t cry…he wouldn’t want you to cry…I would hug you to better confort you…but I can’t…” Yuki said and she leaned her head on his, accepting what confort he could give her. “Can I ask you something…something I’m confused about?” He asked and she turned her head to him and Yuki looked up at her as he still had his head on her shoulder. “…If…well…I want to be friends with Kyo but I don’t know how to approach him now, other than to fight him…I don’t know what to do…” He said in a truly shy way and Tohru wiped her tears away and smiled before turning to him.

“Yuki-kun, you don’t have to afraid of comunicating with Kyo. He admires you a lot, you know.” Tohru said and Yuki was shocked by it, not knowing what he could possibly admire about him. “He told me the day all of those cats swarmed around him…he said he wished he was interested in being part of the Zodiac but more than that he wished to be accepted into the family. He wished he could be more like you because you’re good with people, your better than him at everything no matter how much he tries—”

“So he thinks.” Yuki said hanging his head and Tohru gently cupped his face in her hands and he looked right at her.

“Yuki-kun, you do have good people skills. Do you think you jump out and talk to people just because they’re there? There has to be something there that makes you want to talk to them first. All of this is a part of you. Don’t be afraid to show off your true personality around others. Espeshally not Kyo.” Tohru said and Yuki was shocked for a minute but he then smiled and gently grabbed both of her hands in his own.

“Thank you Handa-san…um…would you mind if…if I helped take care of Kyo…I don’t know much about the things he likes…but I might…” Yuki says, now falling at a loss for words and Tohru smiled.

“Of course.” She said and he smiled.

“It’s getting late now, so we should go to bed…if you don’t mind, can I have a moment with him?” Yuki asked and she nodded before she went off to her room and Yuki then looked over at Kyo who was laying motionless upon his bed with his forehead wrapped up, his right arm and his fingers casted, his ribs wrapped up and his legs both casted. Yuki frowned and sat right by him. “…So you admire me…for the exact qualities I want in you. One day you will learn the way I feel about you and what then……I hope you won’t deny me.” Yuki said pushing Kyo’s bangs out of his face before placing his hand upon the pillow and leaning in close, just looking at him, gently placing his other hand upon Kyo’s face. “Seeing you like this truly pains me Kyo…it really does…if that makes any sense at all…” Yuki said before he leaned in and gently kissed Kyo’s lips before he finally stood up again and walked out to go to bed.

From this moment on…nothing between Yuki and Kyo would ever be the same…Yuki would be sure of it…
