Part one - To Unite All Peoples.
James winced as he sat up. It was barely morning - there was a damp, chilly mist hugging the ground and the sky was still grey - but he had been lying awake for hours with a stone digging into his back, too tired to move. He ran his hands through his dew-damp hair, pushing it back from his face, and wished for a hairdryer. A roof and a heater wouldn't be too bad either.
He stood and stretched slowly, trying to banish the deep-seated feeling of exhaustion that threatened to overcome him. It had little effect. They had simply spent too much time away from civilisation which, to James, meant hot water and soft beds.
He strode stiffly around their little campsite, getting the blood moving again. Meowth appeared from nowhere and got under his feet. "Good morning!" he greeted him, brightly.
James scowled downwards. "It's a lovely morning, Meowth, if you happen to be shooting a gothic horror movie." He headed for the woods, beside which they had pitched camp.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going for a piss, if you really need to know."
"Shut up!" bellowed the lump of sleeping bag that was Jesse. "It's the middle of the night!"
"Sorry, Jesse," James called back. Meowth gave him a strange grin and slouched off somewhere. James heaved a dejected sigh, and continued towards the trees.
***
Over breakfast (otherwise known as last night's leftovers), James broached the subject of unsatisfactory sleeping arrangements.
"... all I'm saying is that it would be nice to sleep in a bed for a change. You don't have to get... upset about it."
"Who's upset?" Jesse replied tightly. "If you can afford a hotel room, please feel free to get one."
"You know I can't afford to - I get paid the same as you, remember?"
"So, actually there isn't any point to this conversation at all?"
"No! I mean yes, there is a point..."
"Do enlighten us," said Jesse, taking another dainty bite.
"We could afford one together."
She gave him a look. "Fantastic! Let's blow all our money on a bed for one night!" She whipped out a fan and hit him with it. "One of your better ideas, I think."
James burst into tears. "I'm cold, I'm damp, I'm covered in bruises from the bloody floor, my feet are two huge blisters, all my clothes are dirty, and I want a bath!" he wailed, tears streaming down his face.
Jesse looked a little shocked at the sudden outburst, and Meowth took advantage of the confusion to steal James' bread and jam. Jesse patted her partner's shoulder. "We'll find a launderette or something..."
"What're you going to do? Stick me in a washing machine?"
"I meant for the clothes, idiot!" she snapped. James started crying again. "All right, we'll get a cheap room..."
He hugged her around the waist.
"Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou..."
"But you're going to pay me back, and this time try not to break anything...?"
A huge grin on his face, James flopped backwards onto the springy, damp turf. "Hot water, soft beds..."
"Carpets, a warm fire..." Meowth chimed in.
"But not an open fire," Jesse told them firmly.
James scowled at her. "It wasn't my fault! Meowth tripped me up! Why do you always have to bring tha-"
"No more rain," Meowth interrupted. "And no more getting bitten by vicious wild pokémon..."
"Maybe if you tried fighting them..." Jesse began, but was interrupted by James' soft, dreamy tones.
"No more wind, no more trees." He and Meowth exchanged a look. "Room service!" They chorused together.
"Remind me to confiscate the phone when we get there," Jesse said coldly. Her team-mates' faces fell. "James? Why don't you go and put the fire out? I want to have a little word with Meowth."
"Yes Jesse." James slouched off with a look of foreboding on his face. Jesse turned to face her furry friend.
"I can't help noticing my back seems to have broken out in scratch marks."
Meowth shuffled his feet. "It was cold..."
"Well, why can't you keep your claws to yourself?"
He shrugged. "It's a reflex. I'm warm, I'm comfortable, I claw things - I can't help it."
"Then sleep with James!"
"He rolls on me!"
"Good idea," she muttered to herself. James hurtled past them and flung a flaming glove into the stream, waving his hand madly back and forth to cool it. Jesse narrowed her eyes in frustration, knocked out Meowth with her mallet, and went to help.
***
James trudged forlornly through the streets of Cerulean City, carrying the unconscious Meowth in his arms. He had protested that Jesse should carry the pokémon as she was responsible for its current immobility, and had a black eye to show for it. He knew she would never admit it, but her irritability (more so than usual) gave her away - she was suffering from their poor living conditions every bit as much as he was.
He looked up absently at the buildings towering over his head, and an image of a giant hose ran through his mind. He hoped that they wouldn't run into their usual adversaries during their little excursion. After so many months of roughing it neither he nor Jesse felt like their usual perfect selves - which no doubt contributed to Jesse's increased snappishness.
"What about that one?" he asked, pointing out a tastelessly decorated hotel called 'The Galloping Goldeen'.
Jesse gave it a cynical glare. "It looks cheap enough," she remarked doubtfully.
"Jess, let's ask the price at least..."
"Call me that again and I'll start calling you Jim."
He winced. "Sorry, Jesse."
They struggled up the unnecessarily steep steps into the lobby. "May I help you?" asked the tall, dark, skinny receptionist, looking down his nose at the bedraggled (and bruised, where James was concerned) figures before him.
"We want a room," Jesse said, approaching the desk and leaving James to admire the decor.
"Certainly madam. We have some beautiful views of the Bay, for only an extra -"
"I've almost been drowned in that damn sea! I'm not going to pay to look at it."
He continued unfazed. "The rooms on the second floor offer some spectacular -"
"Views of the woods?"
"Yes, madam."
"Those would be the woods I've spent the last three weeks living in. Do you have any rooms without views?"
"Yes, madam."
"How much?"
"Fifteen a night, madam."
Jesse glared suspiciously. "That's cheap." She leaned over the desk. "What are you running here exactly?"
The receptionist had kept his cool admirably throughout the conversation but he was now finally beginning to crack. "Absolutely nothing, madam! That's standard off-season price, I assure you... ten a night?"
"Five a night, was that?" Jesse asked, casually fiddling with the pen lying on top of the register.
"Um," the receptionist glanced around, accidentally met Jesse's eyes, and gulped. "Yes madam, absolutely."
She smiled at him, and handed over the money. He opened the register, and she signed them in as Mr. and Mrs. Brown. "James?" she called, "We're staying." She held out her hand for the keys.
"Shall I have someone fetch your luggage?"
"We don't have any luggage."
He casually glanced down at the names in the register, slid his eyes up to Jesse, across to James, and finally back to Jesse again. "I see," he said, his voice dripping with delighted and knowing smugness.
Jesse snatched the keys from his hand and defensively dragged James away, almost making him lose his grip on Meowth. "Second door on your right," he called after them. "Have an enjoyable stay!"
Meowth was beginning to stir by the time they got to the door. James disengaged the claws casually hooked into the front of his shirt as Jesse fiddled with the lock. Once they were inside, James gratefully deposited the pokémon onto an overstuffed armchair and threw himself onto the king-size double bed that dominated the room. Jesse dropped the keys onto a sideboard and flopped beside him.
"I'm never going to move again," James moaned contentedly.
"Except to stretch," Jesse added.
"Where are we?" came a dazed, confused voice from the other side of the room.
"He's -" Jesse began.
"- Back," James finished. "You didn't kill him after all."
Meowth's head appeared over the back of the chair. "What's going on?"
"Resting," James told him, "is going on."
"Shortly to be followed by bathing." Jesse tucked her hands behind her head and closed her eyes.
"Oooh, me first," said James, enthusiastically jumping to his feet.
"Be my guest," Jesse said, sleepily waving a hand.
"Actually, I think I'll give Koffing a bath first. You know he won't go near cold streams."
Jesse just rolled over on her side and fluffed the pillow.
"Meowth, would you like to join us?" James asked with a malicious grin. Meowth silently stalked over to the bed, pausing only to scratch James' ankles on the way. He curled up next to Jesse and closed his eyes.
James shrugged and pulled out his pokéball.
***
He leapt desperately and tackled his pokémon with the towel. Koffing was leaking water, and his characteristically goofy smile was gone. James held him down and towelled him off, then turned him upside down and gently shook him to try to remove the last drops of water.
As soon as he was released, Koffing shot away, banging the door back against the wall with an indignant cry of, "Koffing!" James pulled the plug and sat down heavily on the toilet lid, watching the water spiral away. He rubbed his eyes and yawned deeply, thinking that the whole thing could have been over in ten minutes if Koffing would only stay still. He rinsed out the tub and refilled it, pulled the door closed, and slowly undressed, wincing occasionally as he discovered yet more sore muscles.
He slid into the water, gasping as he realised it was hotter than he had expected. He dipped his head, his vision obscured by the mountains of bubbles, and stayed underwater until his lungs began to seriously protest.
For several minutes he lay there, his head resting on the edge of the tub, his leaf-green eyes shut, letting the comforting warmth of the water relax him. Eventually he forced himself to make an attempt at washing before he fell asleep. He was scrubbing the dirt from under his nails when Jesse pushed the door open.
She had taken off her boots, gloves, and outer shirt. She had also brushed out her hair, making it fall down straight. She looked exhausted.
"Koffing's sulking in front of the fire," she greeted him. "At least I think it's sulking. It's hard to tell." She dumped her make-up bag by the sink and started rummaging through it.
"He'll get over it," James said, stifling a yawn. "You should get some sleep."
"I'm going to, don't worry." She wiped at her eyes, creating a small pile of dirty cotton-wool balls. "I look terrible. Even worst than I feel."
"You'll feel better in the morning," James said. "We all will."
"Mmm..." She pushed the cotton wool into the dustbin, and set about locating her toothbrush. "Are you going to be long?"
"Depends if I fall asleep."
"If you drown yourself, I'm not going to your funeral."
The yawn finally won. "Okay," he said indistinctly.
There was silence for a while, except for the sounds made by cleaning teeth and nails. Then Jesse pulled her top off over her head and stepped out of her skirt and pants. "Shove over," she told James.
"This'll be a little crowded, won't it?"
"You're getting out in a minute."
"Oh."
"What have you done with the soap?"
"It's down there somewhere. I lost it when you took your shirt off."
She flicked bubbles at him and grabbed for the slick bar that had just bumped her hip, catching it first go.
***
Meanwhile, back in the bedroom, Meowth was woken by the sounds of splashing. He burrowed down under the blankets, shoved his paws over his ears, and tried to block out the noise of hated water.
***
Finally chased out of the bathroom - Jesse had insisted she wanted to wash before they managed to eject all the water onto the floor - James strolled back into the bedroom, wrapped in a thick, dark green bathrobe, which was on his list of things to steal when they left.
"Koffing." Koffing turned his back to his master and edged closer to the small electric fire built into the wall.
"Look, you know you had to have a bath sooner or later, it was just getting ridiculous. You should be grateful I waited till we had hot water."
"Koffing."
"Fine, suit yourself then."
The lump in the bedclothes travelled downwards until Meowth's head appeared at the foot of the bed. James didn't see, as he was hunting through the room for a hairdryer.
"Did you have a nice bath?" The sneer was clearly audible in Meowth's voice. "It sounded fun from in here."
James turned and gave him an evil look.
"Try in the top of the wardrobe."
He did, and found a cheap plastic hairdryer with a worrying crack in the casing.
"No need to thank me... I'm only the brains behind this team."
A cushion from the armchair hit the pokémon in the head. "That explains a lot."
The cushion came sailing back, but James ducked. Jesse chose that moment to exit the bathroom, wrapped in a towel, and caught it with her face. James, quickly assessing the situation, stayed ducked.
She didn't even bother to yell. She simply jumped across the room and grabbed Meowth by the ears, hauling him out of the bed. He shouted and struggled, but his flailing claws only succeeded in dislodging her towel. Unconcerned, she lifted him into the air and shook him.
"If you ever touch my face again, you little shit of a pokémon, I'll put your head through the wall. Do I make myself CLEAR?!"
"Agghhh, you're pulling my ears offfff....!"
She shook him again. "Do I?!"
"YESSSSSSS!"
She let go. He fell to the floor with a descending screech, and she pushed her hair back smugly. James was still crouched on the floor, staring in terrified fascination. She picked the towel up and casually wrapped it back around her. Stepping over Meowth, who was protectively cradling his ears and whimpering, she said, "James, hurry up with that. I'm freezing."
"Yes, Jesse," he squeaked.
She sat on the bed, and began brushing out her dripping mass of hair. "Well, get on with it," she told James, who was still frozen on the floor.
"Here," he said with a huge, nervous grin, "you go first." He held out the hairdryer, and Jesse took it.
"This thing's a death-trap!" she exclaimed as she examined it. "Pass me the super-duper-fully-automated-anti-pikachu gloves."
As Jesse dried her hair, a little clumsily because of the bulky handwear, James picked up Meowth. He clung on to the thick fabric of James' robe. "Get me to a Pokémon Centre, quick... I'm dyin'..."
"You're fine," James told him.
"Take me away..."
"Maybe later." He patted him between the ears.
Koffing floated up to snuggle comfortingly against Meowth. "Koffing."
"Thanks, pal."
"Koffing, koffing."
"She does, doesn't she?"
"What're they saying?" Jesse asked, suspiciously.
"I don't know."
"He said you look better without the towel," Meowth told her. She scowled and blushed.
***
Jesse was woken by a strange howl. At first she thought it was Meowth, still worrying about his ears, but he was sleeping peacefully between her and James. After a few seconds whatever-it-was howled again, this time sounding further away. It was answered by several others, and the sounds slowly faded. Probably some wild pokémon, she reasoned. They hadn't bothered to close the curtains before they had fallen into bed, and the moonlight illuminated the room just enough to see by.
James was lying on his side facing her, his hand folded beneath his cheek. Meowth was flat on his back, his paws lying limply in the air, snoring lightly. She sighed despairingly, knowing she'd never get back to sleep now. She stared at the ceiling, but it was boring, so she stopped. Instead she stared at James and Meowth, who were marginally more interesting. Meowth's tongue was protruding slightly from between his teeth. She carefully reached forward and captured it between her thumb and forefinger. He pulled it back into his mouth, muttered something totally unintelligible, and rolled away towards James, who casually put his arm over him and rubbed his face against the soft fur. Jesse grinned, and planned how she was going to tease them both in the morning. She owed Meowth some abuse for the towel fiasco.
She was growing more awake by the minute, and was now getting bored with watching her companions. She turned briefly back to the ceiling, but it was still boring, so she sidled out of the bed, and tiptoed into the bathroom.
She stuck her face under the tap and gulped down a few mouthfuls of water, grabbed a hairbrush and ran it absently through her hair. She pulled it back, didn't like it, and so let it hang down loose again. She washed her hands, washed her face, glared at her reflection, and fussed with her hair again. Finally deciding she had exhausted all the entertainment possibilities the bathroom offered, she went back into the bedroom.
Meowth had returned to his earlier sleeping position, but James' hand still rested on his stomach. Jesse frowned at them, resenting their ability to sleep through pokémon mating rituals, or whatever had been happening outside earlier.
She pulled the covers back, and climbed into bed, pushing her feet - chilled from the terracotta tiles on the bathroom floor - across to warm them on James. He shuffled away. She shuffled forward. He shuffled away. And fell out of the bed.
"Aghhh! Where are we?!"
"Huh?" said Meowth, sitting up.
"We're in the hotel, James. You remember, it was your idea to come here?"
"Oh."
"Shut up, Meowth. I wasn't talking to you."
"Why am I on the floor?"
"Because you fell out of bed, idiot."
"Meowth! Go back to sleep. James, get up."
"My head hurts. I think I landed on it."
"Never mind, I'm sure it'll be fine."
"Yeah, it's not like he's never been hit on the head before."
"Jesse... help me up..."
"No."
"Meowth..."
"I'm asleep."
"What happened to Team Rocket fellowship?"
"Maybe he did hit his head too hard," Jesse muttered to herself.
"I'm cold..."
"Well, get up, then."
"But I'm tired, and my head hurts."
Jesse, finally sick of the whining, leaned across and offered her hand.
"Oo're schwashing ee," Meowth complained from the region of Jesse's stomach. James was hauled to his feet, and dived hastily under the blankets.
"Aghhh! James, keep your feet to yourself. They're freezing!"
"You should have pulled me up earlier then!"
A mallet gleamed in the moonlight.
"Ow!" James fell back against the pillows, his eyes dark spirals of semi-consciousness.
"You sat on me again," Meowth complained.
"You were in the way."
"Well, pardon me for breathing."
James abruptly sat up, making both his teammates jump back with shock.
"James?" Jesse asked, cautiously.
"Jesse," he replied, "oh, thank god. I thought you were a primeape."
"Huh?" said Meowth, taking a careful look at Jesse.
"You're saying I look like a primeape?" Jesse asked, a dangerously explosive look on her face.
James picked up Meowth and deposited him on the far side of the bed. "I'm sorry," he told Jesse, putting his arms around her waist and his head on her shoulder. "I was dreaming, I think."
"Your feet are still cold."
"They're not touching you..."
Jesse grabbed the covers and peered underneath. "Meowth! What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
"Nothin'," Meowth said, blinking his huge, pale eyes in a show of innocence, and quickly removing his paws from Jesse's thigh.
"I think you need to find a female meowth - you've been around humans for far too long."
"I'm a human trapped in a pokémon's body," Meowth informed them.
"Can't you get surgery for that?"
"Don't be stupid, James."
"Sorry. It's just that I heard..."
She pressed her hand against his mouth. "Meowth, will you please get back up here?"
He rested his chin on her knee. "What's the matter, don't you trust Meowth?"
She grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and dumped him on the pillow.
"Will you stop throwing me around?" he complained.
"Shut up, you pervert."
"What?!" Meowth demanded.
"You should stick to your own species. James, you'd never go with a meowth, would you?"
James gave a worried grin. "No, Jesse."
"He's lyin'."
James hit him. He leapt to his feet. "I've had enough abuse from both of you! I get stuff thrown at me, I get my ears pulled off, I get sat on, twice, not to mention the usual insults. You realise I'm mentally scarred for life because of you?!"
Jesse and James looked at each other, then simultaneously burst out laughing. Jesse laughed so hard she fell over. On top of Meowth. There was an outraged screech, it's effect ruined a little by the somewhat muffled sound quality. Jesse headed for the ceiling, yelling almost as loudly as Meowth, with a fresh set of scratch marks on her back. Meowth dived for James' face, and he fell off the bed again, only to be chased around the room by the enraged pokémon.
***
"Good night, Jesse."
"Good night, James."
"Good night, Meowth."
"Let me down! I'll yell all night!"
"Do we have anything to gag him with?"
"Not really... We could always put one the super-duper-fully-automated-anti-pikachu gloves over his head."
"I'll be quiet," Meowth whimpered. Jesse and James exchanged smug grins. "Please let me down..."
"James, I could have sworn he said he'd be quiet."
"Please! I'll sleep on the chair, I won't say a word, I can't feel my paws..."
"Shall we let him down?"
"I'm not sure," Jesse said, thoughtfully examining her nails.
"He does look sorry," James pointed out.
"But he's not being very quiet..."
Meowth kept his mouth firmly shut, while trying to look as remorseful as possible.
"Oh, but he's so cute," they chorused together.
"Let's let him down!" James said, taking Jesse's hand.
"But he has to be quiet," Jesse warned. Meowth nodded, vigourously.
"And he mustn't claw people any more," James added. Meowth deliberately retracted his claws, and nodded again. "Shall we?" James continued, looking at Jesse.
"Oh... all right."
"Aw, thanks, guys," said Meowth as James untied him. "Can I sleep in the bed, please? I promise I won't claw anyone."
"I'm not sure about that," Jesse said.
"Let him," James whined. "He's sorry."
"Whatever," Jesse finally conceded. "Just let's get some sleep."
They arranged themselves back into the dishevelled bed, Meowth snuggling back down between Jesse and James. "You don't really think I... like pokémon, do you?" James whispered to Meowth.
"None of my business, pal. You like who you want."
"But... why? I don't."
"Of course you don't," Jesse broke in, sarcastically.
"What's that supposed to mean?" James asked, feeling picked on.
"I saw you and Meowth earlier. And it was your idea to tie him up..."
"What was he doing to me earlier? What was he doing to me earlier?"
"Nothing much, just... nuzzling you."
"I wasn't!"
"You were, while he was asleep."
"I wouldn't! I don't like pokémon!"
"That's why you're a pokémon trainer, I suppose."
"Shut up! I don't like pokémon, and I wasn't doing anything to Meowth!"
"You enjoyed tying him up though, didn't you?"
"NO!"
"Can we swap places, please?" Meowth asked Jesse.
"Leave me alone!" James cried, despairingly.
"No, I like it here," Jesse told Meowth. "And you said you weren't going to talk."
He rolled as far away from James as he could, the manoeuvre leaving him curled up against Jesse. James turned his back on both of them.
"Don't worry, Meowth," Jesse said, unnecessarily loudly. "I'll stop him if he tries to molest you."
"You didn't last time," Meowth muttered under his breath, rubbing his face against her left breast in a possessive gesture.
"But not if you keep doing that."
"What?"
"For someone who claims to be human, you don't seem to know much about human anatomy. Now, stop it."
"Sorry."
James flopped back. "What's he doing?"
"Nothing."
"What was he doing?"
"I wasn't doing anything!"
"Never mind what he was doing."
"Was he nuzzling you? I bet you liked that, didn't you?"
"Shut up, James."
"Guys! Meowth needs his sleep!"
"I'm not sleepy any more," James mused.
"Me neither. That's your fault," Jesse snapped.
"Whose fault?"
"Both of you."
James and Meowth exchanged a brief look of fellowship through adversity. James shuffled a little closer to his teammates.
"Look out, Meowth, he's going for you."
"I'm just cold! You've got all the blankets!"
"Yeah, any excuse..." Jesse and Meowth giggled together.
"Well, you two seem to be getting on just fine," James snapped.
"What's wrong? Are you jealous?"
James yanked the blankets away angrily and turned his back again. "I'm going back to sleep. You two can do whatever you want."
Meowth climbed on top of Jesse and curled up on her stomach. She gently tickled his ears, and he rubbed against her. "I'm sorry I clawed you, Jesse."
"I'm sorry I sat on you."
They hugged.
"Hey, Isn't anyone sorry they hit me?"
"We're just doing whatever we want, like you said."
"Yeah, you're asleep."
"But... but I'm sorry for... for whatever I actually did."
"Go hug him, Meowth."
"No, you go hug him."
James suddenly threw himself across the bed towards Jesse. Meowth desperately dived before he was crushed. "Oh, Jesse, I'm so sorry..." James wailed, streams of tears pouring down his face. "Let's never fight again..."
"I'm sorry I said you liked Meowth."
"I'm sorry I said you liked Meowth."
"I love you, James."
"I love you too," they clung together, crying tears of emotion and relief. Eventually they calmed down and let go, and James settled back with his cheek restring lightly on Jesse's shoulder and his arm across her firm, flat stomach.
"Hold on," Jesse said, suspiciously. "Where's Meow..." she froze, an expression of shock on her face.
"Jesse?"
She didn't answer.
"Jesse, what's wrong?"
She closed her eyes and grinned, then slid her arms slowly around James' waist, pulling him in close, and kissed softly at his neck. She slipped her hands up his back to firmly grip his shoulders and moaned, softly.
"Jess?" he asked, worried, "what is it?"
"Shhh, James. Nothing's wrong..." She was rocking backwards and forwards, gently pressing her knee into James' groin with every forward stroke. He tried to squirm away, but she wouldn't let go.
"Jesse! You're hurting me, let me go!"
She gave him a frighteningly intense smile, her eyes barely open. "It doesn't hurt, James. Trust me..." She kissed him again, first on the throat, then up to his ear, then against the side of the mouth, and James hastily pressed his lips against hers before she changed her mind. He wrapped his arms around her and tried to snuggle up closer, but she carefully held him at a distance.
"No, James, you stay... ah! Stay there... oh, James..."
He watched his partner roll her head back against the pillows, her eyes shut and her face wearing a look of blissful abandon. He had never seen her voluntarily lose so much as an iota of control before, and he wondered if it wasn't all going a little too fast. After all, he'd barely touched her.
"Jesse?" he whispered, "are you sure every..." He broke off as she grabbed his hands and pulled them to her breasts, rubbing his captive fingertips over her tiny, hard nipples. "Oh, Jess," he murmured, trying once again to move closer. She held him back. "Jesse..." he whined, wriggling uncomfortably, but she didn't even open her eyes, just rolled her head from side to side, biting down on her lower lip and gripping James' hands tighter and tighter.
Jesse was initially shocked and disgusted by the idea of Meowth pleasuring her, but she had to admit, it did feel nice. She had no idea where he had learned the technique, but his dry, rough tongue seemed to be directly linked to her brain, going exactly to where she needed it, and she quickly decided she wasn't really interested in finding out. She told herself she should get rid of him before James realised, and she would, in just a second...
James was feeling increasingly left out. Jesse was in a world of her own, but she wouldn't let go of his hands, and the show she was putting on had rendered him quite uncomfortable. Without warning, she rolled abruptly towards him, kicking at the blankets covering her legs. She wrapped herself around him. There was a confused thrashing from the region of her thighs which she covered up by sticking her tongue down his throat.
When she finally released him he pushed eagerly forwards, grabbing for her breasts again, but she took his shoulders and pushed him effortlessly back. "What are you doing?" She sounded tired.
"Jess... what...?"
"Great," she said, drowsily. "Now try a sentence."
"Jesse! You were just all over me! What's the matter with you?!"
"Why, James," she purred, "you sound almost... angry." He seethed at her mocking, self-satisfied tone, and she teasingly ran her fingers down his chest. "I'm not sure it suits you, darling."
Meanwhile, unnoticed by either of his teammates, Meowth emerged at the foot of the bed and drew in deep lungfuls of air. Pausing to shoot a glare at Jesse (she had kicked his injured ear when she had finally had enough and decided to disengage him), he jumped to the floor, and then up into the armchair. He wriggled into a corner and rubbed at his throbbing ear.
Back on the bed, Jesse was relenting. They lay on their sides face to face, kissing deeply and gently. Jesse ran her hands over James' back, then moved one hand up to cradle the back of his head. He had his hands on her waist and her elbow in his ribs. She nipped his tongue and he pulled it back indignantly, so she licked his cheek instead. He wiped his face and darted forward suddenly to lick her nose. A thin strand of saliva fell between them to land on the pillow.
Jesse scrubbed at her face with the heel of her hand. "That's disgusting, James."
"You started it."
She gave him an evil grin. "So I did." She straddled him, her bright, blue eyes glaring imperiously into his.
"Oh, Jesse..." he breathed, overcome by the transformation of his partner. She swooped down to cover his body with hers, crushing her breasts against his chest, deliberately rubbing herself against his lower belly, but avoiding the insistent stiffness behind.
She kissed him lightly on the lips. "James, darling, I think we're ready."
He nodded vigourously. She just looked at him.
"Well? Haven't you, er, got a... you know, a condom?"
Horrible realisation spread across James' face. "I didn't... I mean I... I..." Tears of frustration filled his eyes.
Jesse dismounted and gave him a disappointed pout. "Well if you haven't, then we can't..."
"I know," he said quietly , and rolled away from her so he could wipe the tear tracks from his face before she saw.
He felt a cool hand travel down his spine and over his hip before lightly squeezing his right buttock and finally disappearing.
"Oh, Jaaa-ames..."
"What?"
"Look what I found..."
He rolled back to see Jesse tapping the little foil packet against the smooth slope of her left breast. "It's pikachu proof," she announced.
"Pikachu proof?" James asked, aghast. "I don't even want to think about why you'd need it to be pikachu proof."
"I got it a while ago. I found a machine that did novelty ones," she told him, carefully peeling back the wrapping. "I was going to get electabuzz-print, but I thought this was much more you."
"Thank you," James said, sounding confused and doubtful.
Jesse pushed him down flat on his back. "You're welcome," she said, brightly, pulling the covers away from their naked bodies. James nervously tried to cross his legs, but she sat on his thighs, pinning him down. "Now, I wonder if I got the right size..."
"Ahhh!"
"Seems to fit..."
"Ohmygodohmygodohmygod..." James rolled his head back, his eyes open and staring vacantly at the ceiling.
Jesse smiled to herself.
Back on the chair, Meowth decided he couldn't pretend not to notice what was going on any longer, and jumped down. "Guys, don't you want a little privacy or something?"
There was no response.
"Guys?"
"JESSE! Oh, my God..."
"Well, if that's your attitude..." He jumped onto the bed, sat down, and watched. Jesse was on top, her head flung back, and her hair hanging down to her hips. James had his eyes squeezed shut, his hands clutching at the blankets. Meowth paced languidly towards them, timing his footfalls to coincide with Jesse's thrusts, his sharp, extended claws catching in the fabric. James still seemed oblivious, but his partner glared at Meowth as the pokemon sat down beside them.
"Meowth," she gasped, "go away..."
"You didn't say that earlier. And I never even got a thank-you. No, all Meowth gets is a kick in the head."
"Meowth, I'm warning you, if you don't get the hell off this bed, right now..."
"You'll come and get me?"
Realising that he was losing her concentration, James began to buck his hips to meet Jesse's decreasing thrusts. He tuned into the conversation above him long enough to realise that it shouldn't be taking place. "Meowth? What are you doing here?"
"I want an apology," he informed them prissily, tilting his head back so he could look down at them. It was because of the awkward visual angle that he never saw the pillow that James had snatched up. I caught him neatly and bowled him back onto the floor. His head hit the leg of the small bedside table, further aggravating his suffering ears, and knocking him semi-conscious.
Quickly recovering, he rubbed at the spots with the most pain, then realised that the strange screaming noises weren't just in his head. He hauled himself back onto the bed just in time to witness Jesse's second orgasm of the evening. She rolled off James, then pulled him into a tight hug. Meowth leapt to his feet. "What's the big idea? Can't you leave my ears alone for five minutes? Now I'm really mad! Meowth!"
"You promised you wouldn't claw us," James squeaked, peddling his feet to propel himself away from the enraged feline.
"Hey, I'm a bad guy, remember? Team Rocket don't keep promises!" He leapt for James' face, claws outstretched and glinting with the faint grey light of the dawn. He was scooped out of the air by Jesse's fishing net. "What...?"
"Didn't I tell you it would be useful?" she said, addressing James and ignoring the desperately struggling pokémon who was sticking his paws through the holes of the net, trying to get his claws within range of her naked, defenceless skin.
"Oh, Jesse, you really do care," James sobbed, his eyes alight with gratitude and admiration.
"I'd never let anyone hurt you, James."
"Yeah, she's gonna hurt you all by herself," Meowth snapped. He turned to Jesse. "Anyway, why're you getting all soppy over him? I did ya first."
She flailed the net against the floor. Meowth howled. James looked confused. "What did he mean?"
"He didn't mean anything, and if he ever tries to mean anything, ever, he's going straight out the window!"
"Arghhhhhh, let me go, you're gonna kill me..."
Jesse held up the net, and glared at it's contents. "You will never say a word to anyone about that. Okay?"
Meowth shot out a paw and caught Jesse across the face, making her drop the net in shock. He hastily struggled free before she could come to her senses. James hid under the covers.
Jesse reached up with a shaking hand and wiped blood from her cheek, gazing at her fingers in disbelief. Meowth backed away slowly until he bumped against the wall, where he tried to look as small as possible. Shrieking like a scyther, clutching a mallet in either hand, and holding a paper fan between her teeth, Jesse charged at the cowering pokémon. Meowth leapt desperately away and landed on the bed.
Jesse skidded to a halt and spun to glare at her quarry sitting on top of the huddled bundle of blankets. "Keep back!" Meowth yelled, claws fully extended, "or your boyfriend gets scarred for life!"
The blankets curled up tighter. There was a muffled cry of "Jesse! Make him stop, it tickles!"
Meowth growled and dug his claws in harder. James began giggling wildly.
Jesse slowly lowered the mallets and spat out her fan so she could talk. "Get off him, Meowth. I won't hit you."
"Put the mallets down, then."
"Jesse, get him off, my ribs are hurting..."
Jesse put the mallets away. Meowth jumped off James, who flopped out of his hiding place hugging his aching sides. "Ow..." he moaned, "I can't breathe..." He rolled onto his front, pushed himself up onto his hands and knees, then burst out laughing again and collapsed back onto the bed.
Scowling at both of her teammates, Jesse said, "I've got a... James, Stop laughing! I've got an idea."
"Great," Meowth muttered under his breath.
"James, get in the bed, and if you don't stop laughing now, I'll break your arm. Great. Meowth, bed. Now. Stop glaring." She climbed in beside them. "Okay, nobody's going to talk or do anything to anyone else. We're going to get some sleep."
They lay in the half-light, carefully not looking at each other. Jesse was floating in the soft, relaxed world that came just before sleep when she was shocked awake by a voice in the darkness.
"Meowth, what did you mean?"
"Huh?" came the sleepy reply.
"You know, the thing you're not allowed to mean or you'll get thrown out the window."
"Oh, yeah, that."
Jesse's eyes widened in the darkness. "Meowth," she growled, warningly.
"I didn't mean anything."
"Glad to hear it. Now go to sleep before I punch you out."
"Jesse?"
"What, James?"
"Is there really any point? It's practically morning."
"Fine. Whatever. I'm going to sleep." To prove her point she turned her back on them and pulled the blankets up to her chin. A few minutes later she felt the bed ease upwards, and the sounds of James being quiet filled her ears. She sighed and stuck her head under the pillow. She was beginning to doze again when stifled giggling filled the room.
"You never!" James whispered loudly.
Jesse rose from the bed like an avenging spirit. "Meowth!?"
"I didn't tell him!"
"Meowth, run! She's got the fans!"
Meowth sprinted out of the room, dodging between Jesse's legs on the way. She slammed and locked the door behind him.
"Guys! Let me back in! I'm naked!"
"Meowth, you're always naked."
"Oh, yeah."
"And you're not coming back in. Go find yourself a female pokémon."
"Fine! I don't want to hang around with you guys anyway!" There was a faint tapping sound as Meowth's claws hit the tiles. They faded away. Jesse turned to James.
"Whatever he told you, it's not true."
"He told me you were the most charming and intelligent person he'd ever met."
::WHACK::
"He told me he sucked you off," James warbled, dazedly. Then he fell over.
"James?" She kicked him lightly.
"Aggh! PRIMEAPE!"
Jesse grabbed his shoulder and slapped him. "James! There aren't any primeapes!"
"Jesse! Don't let them get me!"
"There aren't any primeapes, James, it's all right..." She hugged him. He hugged her back, hiding his face in her hair.
"Oh, Jesse, it almost got me. It was horrible."
"It's all right, James, you're safe."
"Where's Meowth?" he asked, peering over Jesse's shoulder. "They didn't get him, did they?"
Jesse looked into his worried face. I wish they had, she thought. "James, listen carefully. There aren't any primeapes. I hit you."
James blinked blankly.
Jesse slumped with exasperation and squeezed him tighter. "Let's just forget this entire night ever happened."
