Chapter 1: A Condition and a Vampire
Never before in his life had Tsukune Aono so looked forward to Monday morning. Unlike the rest, though, this one held promise and possibility – the possibility that he could finally ask Moka Akashiya, the girl he’d been smitten with since the first day of high school, on a date. Saturday and Sunday crawled by, keeping him on edge with waiting. Nothing could distract him for long – not catching up on his homework, not laundering his sheets, not even remembering his tryst with Yukari Sendo on Friday night. He still had trouble believing their one date had progressed so far so quickly. The young witch had again given herself an older, more mature, more womanly body and had dressed to the nines. She was gorgeous and, as it turned out, irresistible for the young man. She also catalyzed in him the awareness that he had romantic feelings for her, Kurumu Kurono, and Mizore Shirayuki.Saturday morning had seen them wake up together, still nude. They’d both pledged not to feel regret over the incident, but they also agreed that it was best to keep it secret for now, so as not to upset their friends. Yukari kissed Tsukune on the cheek once she’d put her clothes back on and cast an invisibility spell in order to sneak from his room back to her own.Once out of his room, she’d threaded her way through the press of teenage boys on their way to the communal restrooms, not pausing even to linger near the showers. To her surprise, the temptation to do so was far weaker than she’d thought. Outside the boys’ dormitory, she skipped, still invisible, all the way back to her room. Anyone who could have seen her would have been treated to the sight of a well-endowed young woman in a fancy dress and heels skipping along as though she were twelve or thirteen. When Monday morning did finally arrive, Tsukune also felt like skipping on the path to the main educational building where all of Yokai Academy’s classes were held. Every morning, Moka would greet him on the way to classes and they’d walk together. Most mornings, the other girls of the Newspaper Club would join them. Most mornings, Moka would tell him she’d forgotten to eat breakfast and proceed to bite his neck and drink his blood. Today, though, he had a golden opportunity to ask her out on a date and tell her how he felt about her. Confidence unlike anything he’d ever felt before surged through him.Soon he heard his favorite sound: the lilting voice of Moka Akashiya greeting him by name. It never fails to cheer me up when I feel down, he reflected. It always makes my day start off bright. The young man turned to wave at the (until recently) singular object of his affections. The young woman’s face glowed in the autumn morning sun as she walked briskly towards him. She wore a bright smile along with the school uniform and her ever-present rosary.“Good morning, Moka,” Tsukune greeted her. “How was your weekend?” The young man had chosen that as his opening so that he could frame his date as an exciting choice for this coming weekend. He thought himself pretty clever for his plan.“Oh, the usual,” the pink-haired girl replied, “homework and chores. The inner me and I tried to play a couple games, but none of them quite worked out.”Tsukune chuckled. “What do you mean?”“We tried a few card games, but we knew what was in each other’s hand,” she explained. “Monopoly’s no fun with just two people. Chess doesn’t really work when both players know exactly what the other is planning.” She sighed and shrugged.“Maybe next time you could try Klondike,” Tsukune suggested.“What’s that?”“It’s also called Solitaire,” he clarified. “It’s you against the deck, basically. With both of you playing, you might each see moves that the other doesn’t.” He smiled helpfully.Moka beamed back. “Wow, I’d never have thought of that! If I finish everything this weekend, I’ll definitely try that!”Inside the rosary, the other Moka rolled her eyes. Oh, joy, another weekend of card games. I can hardly wait.“Maybe you should wait to try it,” said Tsukune, sensing his moment.“Why?” asked Moka, her brow furrowing.“I, um,” stammered the young man, his face flushing. Why am I freezing up now, of all times? he wondered. “I mean… I wanted to know…” he continued to fumble. If I don’t spit it out soon, we’re bound to be interrupted by the others. We always are.Not today, though – not far away, hidden in the trees lining the path, Yukari concentrated on the glowing filament of her wand, maintaining a privacy ward potent enough to prevent Kurumu or Mizore from seeing or hearing them. Sweat beaded her brow. C’mon, Tsukune! she cheered silently, able to hear the whole exchange between her lover and her would-be lover.Moka just looked at Tsukune with her gorgeous green eyes. The pressure built within the young man to say something, anything, to just ask her already. He sensed his opportunity slipping away. The pressure built further. The time is now, he told himself.“Iwanttoaskyouonadate!” Tsukune finally blurted, with all the subtlety of a hurricane.Moka blinked in surprise. Her cheeks flushed faintly. “I… I can’t believe it!” she cried. “You… you finally… I’ve been waiting…”“Moka,” the young man murmured, too stunned to say more. It sounds like she’ll accept! he crowed to himself.“Tsukune,” the vampire girl responded, a soft smile gracing her lips. Her eyes sparkled as she leaned a bit closer.“Moka?” Tsukune answered. Is she… is she gonna kiss me? he wondered and hoped. Nearby, Yukari wondered the same.“Tsukune, I’d –“Her eyes widened suddenly, and she jerked back. The moment was broken. Tsukune thought his heart might be too. “What’s wrong, Moka?” he asked, just as he noticed the jewel at the crux of the rosary flashing, almost angrily.Moka looked down at the piece of jewelry and clutched it, a stricken expression on her face. Her eyes welled with tears. “I’m sorry, Tsukune,” she managed, her voice wavering. “I… I can’t accept.”“What? Why not?” asked the bewildered young man.“It’s the other me,” explained the young woman. “She says I can’t accept.” Her brow furrowed. “She says neither of us is mature enough to take that step.”“That’s ridiculous!” cried Tsukune. “I took Yukari out on one, and it went great!” He flushed as he thought about just how well that date had gone.“She says taking a twelve-year-old on a date doesn’t count,” replied Moka.Hey! Yukari groused, still maintaining the spell. I’m thirteen now, thank you very much!Moka looked at Tsukune and smiled softly. “I’m glad you two had a good time,” she told him with her usual sincerity. “Maybe you two should just…”Tsukune stared at the ground, cheeks aglow. He suddenly found the sidewalk quite interesting. Images of Yukari’s full-grown, busty form without of stitch of clothing coalesced in his mind’s eye. He shook his head, refocusing on the issue at hand.Aloud, he said, “I might ask why you need her permission.” He sighed. “But I guess it might not be fair to her, since she’d have to tag along.”Moka frowned at her rosary. “That wasn’t very nice!” she scolded.“What’d she say?” asked Tsukune.“Um, nevermind,” replied the vampire girl. “It’s really not important.”Tsukune sighed, frustrated. “Fine. We should probably get to class before we’re late.”“Where is everyone?” wondered Moka. “By now, Kurumu has usually accidentally smothered you and Mizore has appeared from a wildly improbable hiding spot.” They began walking towards their homeroom class.“Maybe they decided to wait for us in homeroom with Yukari?” suggested the human boy, just as bewildered as his counterpart regarding their friends’ absence.By this point, Yukari leaned against a tree, panting from exertion as she dropped her spell. Great, she grumbled to herself. I give them the perfect chance, and Moka gets in her own way! Not to mention, I’m about to be late for class! With that thought in mind, she gathered herself and dashed as quickly as her rubbery legs could carry her.The three of them arrived not far ahead of the bell. Yukari had almost caught up entirely, now even more out of breath than before. Kurumu and Mizore were, in fact, waiting, as Tsukune had guessed.“So where’d you two sneak off to?” asked the succubus, clearly intent on a blitzkrieg interrogation.“Yeah, I looked for you everywhere,” added the ice-demon. “It’s the first time I couldn’t find you. It’s upsetting for a stalker like me,” she teased, an amused smile on her lips, which were wrapped around her customary lollipop.Kurumu glared at Moka, who glared right back. The air seemed to crackle with the force of their enmity. “You better not have been trying to corrupt my sweet, innocent Tsukune,” the succubus snarled. The young man flushed, glancing towards the as-yet-unnoticed witch. Moka scoffed, “Oh, please! Why would I – I mean, he’s not your Tsukune!” She gripped his arm protectively.“I bet you were sucking him dry again,” grumbled Kurumu.“Why is Yukari grown up again?” asked Mizore, changing the subject and focusing the other girls’ attention on the witch. “Do we have to go beat up the school nurse again?”“No, I did myself this time,” she explained, preening. Well, Ruby helped, she mused. How can I ever repay her, given how… well… things went?“Why are you all sweaty?” asked Moka.“Casting a spell,” the witch answered, letting the others assume whatever they would.“I hope you weren’t all sweaty like that for your date with Tsukune,” snarked Kurumu. “Gross!”Yukari pretended to face forward in a huff, but she smiled to herself, knowing they couldn’t see her face since she sat at the front of the class. Yes I was, you fat cow, she shot back silently, while I was becoming the first one to become one with him in the way you most want to, but haven’t. She shivered at the memories now rising to the forefront of her mind.“Speaking of dates,” Moka told Kurumu, “’your’ Tsukune just asked me out.”“You’re just making that up,” the blue-haired girl dismissed her. “You must’ve asked him, and he’d never accept!”Further argument was curtailed by the ringing of the bell. Ms. Nekonome, clad in her usual, slightly-unprofessional tanktop and miniskirt, began taking attendance. She remained, as always, utterly oblivious to the tension between the two girls in the back of her class.~~~~~Little learning occurred during class that day. Yukari already knew the material backwards and forwards, so she daydreamed about making love to Tsukune and Moka, both separately and as a trio. Beside her, Mizore sat impassively, like an ice sculpture in her stillness and just as inscrutable.Tsukune, in his usual seat, tried to follow along with the lessons, but he found himself distracted and depressed by his earlier failure. So much for this being the best Monday ever, he thought glumly.Kurumu fumed. She focused the occasional death glare at Moka. She fretted about what happened between her most dangerous rival and her Fated Mate. She feared she might lose him forever.Behind Tsukune and beside Kurumu, Moka pouted. Usually a diligent student, she just couldn’t focus on today’s lessons. Instead, she stared despondently at the rosary hanging from her neck. Mustering her courage, she decided she had a bone to pick with her other self.Within the landscape of the mind, the two Mokas met. Both were nude, but they were unconcerned with their nudity. However, that didn’t stop the silver-haired Moka from folding her arms across her breasts as a sign of impatience. “What do you want?”“I want to know why you won’t let me go on a date with Tsukune!” cried the pink-haired girl. “You know that I’ve been waiting for him to ask for over a year now!”The other Moka merely shrugged. “I think you can do better,” she responded.“Like who?” demanded outer Moka. “The peeping-tom werewolf? That desperate ‘fan-club president’ who’s really just a stalker? Oh, I know! That ogre guy who tried to… to… force me on the first day of school! He seems like a real catch!”Inner Moka looked away, unwilling to concede the point. “Tsukune is just a human, though,” she replied stiffly. “He’s nowhere near worthy enough to be with… you.”Outer Moka’s eyes widened. She’d picked up on the pause before the other Moka’s choice of pronoun. “Are you… jealous?”“Of course not,” answered the other Moka, maybe a bit too quickly. “I’m just reminding you that we share this body. Whoever you date must meet my approval.”Now it was outer Moka’s turn to fold her arms. “But he’s by far the best friend either of us could have asked for, much less boyfriend. Is his humanity the only reason you object to me dating Tsukune?” She wasn’t yet convinced that the warrior side of her wasn’t jealous.“His weakness is reason enough,” the silver-haired girl sniffed.“But he’s kind,” protested the pink-haired girl. “And he’s brave – he’s never backed down, even when he could’ve been killed. He even stood up to you when you wanted to tear off Kurumu’s wings and tail. Doesn’t that count for anything?”Inner Moka’s red eyes focused on her counterpart. She seemed to be pondering something. Outer Moka’s heart leapt, thinking she’d gotten through to her other self. “I suppose,” conceded inner Moka, “but, as I said, not nearly enough.”Outer Moka’s eyes narrowed at the other’s stubbornness. “Fine, but at least tell me what he has to do to prove himself,” she insisted. The silver-haired vampire stared down the pink-haired one, noting the persistence within the outer persona’s verdigris eyes. A smirk formed, and her own blood-red eyes gleamed. “Do you think he’s up to the task?” she taunted.“I know he is!” answered the gentler persona. “Just give him a chance!”“Very well,” conceded the warrior persona, “I will allow you to accept Tsukune’s date proposal on one condition.”“Name it.”“I go on the date.”Outer Moka recoiled in shock. “But…”Inner Moka raised an eyebrow. “Where’s that certainty you displayed a moment ago?”Outer Moka set her mouth. The inner persona’s words had had the opposite of the intended effect. “Okay,” she agreed, “you go on the date this time, and I go next time.”“If there is one,” replied the silver-haired vampire. “You can tell him what I told you. Tell him it’s his chance to impress me.”Outer Moka regarded the other carefully. “You think he’ll chicken out,” she surmised. “I think he’ll surprise even you.” Without even waiting for inner Moka’s response, she returned to the outer world, where her notebook remained as blank as it had been at the start of class. She resolved to tell Tsukune everything at lunch.~~~~~Once morning classes ended, the Newspaper Club gathered for lunch, as was their custom. They occupied their usual seats at their usual table: Tsukune was flanked by Moka and Kurumu, while Yukari sat across from the vampire girl and left the seat directly across from the human boy for Mizore. The sixth seat remained empty in case Ruby was able to join them. The quintet sat in unusual silence as they ate. The morning’s revelation and subsequent argument had cast a spirit-dampening cloud over their usual dynamic. Moka, Tsukune, and Yukari each blamed themselves for disrupting everyone’s friendships.Everything’s ruined now, fretted Yukari, all because I encouraged and enabled Tsukune to finally ask Moka on a date. My dream of a passionate three-way is fading fast!Everything’s ruined now, fretted Tsukune, and it’s all my fault. Why did I ever think that asking Moka out was a good idea? I should’ve known it’d blow up in my face like this.Everything’s not quite ruined, but it’s close, fretted Moka. If things get any worse, I don’t know what’ll happen to the Club.“Tsukune, I wanted to tell you,” she began, breaking the silence, “that I talked to the other me.”“Let me guess – she won’t change her mind at all about how I’m not worth your time,” replied Tsukune. Kurumu and Mizore, not privy to Moka and Tsukune’s previous conversation, could only listen in confusion.“Actually, she did,” Moka corrected him, nearly provoking Tsukune to choke on the bite of food he’d just taken. The young man perked up, unable to believe his good fortune. “On one condition,” the vampire continued, deflating her human friend.“What is it?” he groaned. “I’m sure it’ll be something totally impossible.”Moka cleared her throat. “M-Maybe not, though she’d like to think so,” she reassured him. “She said you have to impress her.”“Great,” groused Tsukune. “How am I supposed to impress an S-class super-monster?”The pink-haired girl swallowed. “Take her out on a date this weekend instead of me.”“No way!” cried Kurumu. “You really did ask her out before me?” She glared at her rival, barely masking the hurt in her eyes.“Are you really surprised?” asked Mizore, rolling her eyes at the succubus’ denseness. Her question remained unanswered, though, because Tsukune blurted, “Fine! If that’s what I have to do, I’ll do it!” He flushed and smiled shyly at Moka. “Anything, just for a chance to be with you.”Moka beamed, her cheeks glowing. “Four-thirty at the bus stop on Friday afternoon,” she instructed him. “And… dress for a night on the town… in the human world?” Her brow furrowed, and she looked into the jewel of her rosary, wondering if her warrior persona had lost her mind from being sealed away for so long.“We won’t let it happen, Tsukune,” warned Kurumu, her voice low, almost a growl. “It’s way too dangerous to go into the human world for a date.”“You’d really risk her wrath to sabotage our date?” Tsukune asked, incredulous. The succubus nodded fiercely; Mizore narrowed her eyes, and the temperature dipped a few degrees to demonstrate her willingness to compete for Tsukune’s love as well. “We’ve nearly been expelled already. Some of us more than once,” she added with a wry smile. “If we can take her with us, it’s worth it.”Tsukune rubbed the bridge of his nose, unable to believe the self-destructive lengths these girls would go to for him. An idea occurred to him just then, a way to potentially salvage the situation; he figured that now was as good a time as any for him to enact the plan he’d discussed with Yukari after their tryst.“What if I promised both of you that you’d have your own dates too?”Kurumu’s face lit up. “You mean it? A date with you?”“Just the two of us?” added Mizore, her face flushing faintly. The young man put his hand over his heart to convey his earnestness. “You have my word,” he told them, “if you don’t interfere this weekend.”“We promise!” they chorused.Tsukune grinned at them, relieved. I can’t believe that actually worked! His heart pounded in his chest as he turned to Moka and said, “It’s a date.”_____________________________________________________________________________
A/N: Greetings, readers! This marks the beginning of another fanfic in the R+V world. As mentioned in the description, it's a continuation from "The Witching Hour," which was the result of a request by another site member. I liked writing that one enough to use it as a springboard for something I'd been wanting to do for a while now - a series where Tsukune gets all the girls. I hope that y'all will enjoy this one; if so (or if not), please let me know via rating, reviewing, or PMing on the forum page. I love me some feedback!
