Chapter 1: A Study Date and a Vampire
Never before in her life had Moka Akashiya ever looked forward so much to a Monday morning. Only an acute awareness of how easily her short school-uniform skirt flew up restrained her from skipping along the path to the class building. Her eyes swept the morning crowds to locate the signature tousled hair of the boy she most wanted to see. Her stomach tied itself into pretzels in anticipation. When she spotted Tsukune, she called his name and waved. The young man turned toward the sound of her voice, a full-faced grin immediately springing to his lips. Moka darted forward to grab his arm, an equally-broad grin on her face.“Good morning, Tsukune!” she greeted him.“Good morning, Moka,” he replied, feeling a little unsure of himself around her, given the surprisingly-passionate trajectory of his date with the cold-seeming inner persona this past weekend. “I, uh, guess you… you know how things went, huh?”She nodded, a small, playful smile now on her lips. “Believe me, I’m just as surprised as you are,” Moka assured him.Tsukune’s cheeks reddened. “But… you’re okay with it?”The vampire frowned slightly. “Well, I don’t really like the idea of letting her out regularly,” she answered tersely. “Unlike her, I’m completely unaware of what’s going on when we switch.” Seeing the look of dismay on Tsukune’s face, she added hastily, “But it was a great idea to her and she deserves to get out and stretch her legs sometimes and it’s unfair for her if I’m out all the time so it’s okay. Really it is!” She waved her hands as she babbled herself breathless.Tsukune laughed and scratched the back of his head with his free hand. “I’d hoped you’d be okay with it,” the human boy responded. “I could tell it meant a lot to her, to have an opportunity to live life for herself.”Moka regarded the young man. That sincerity and kindness are why I love you, she told him silently, the thought triggering a familiar resonance from within the rosary. The other me agrees. Now I just have to show you.At that moment, she spotted one of the pinpoint puncture scars on Tsukune’s neck; the other was hidden by his shirt collar. Gingerly she reached up to brush the spots with her fingertips, but the young man winced and recoiled somewhat. “Did that hurt?” Moka asked, a strong note of apology in her voice.“Yeah, it’s still tender,” Tsukune explained. “If you want breakfast, you’ll have to use the other side,” he offered.Moka leaned in, as if drawn to the already-marked spot. “Actually, I have a better idea. I could, ah, kiss it to m-make it better,” she murmured into his ear. Before he could reply, she lunged forward. When vampire lips met human neck, both teens felt a jolt permeate them to the core. Moka merely felt her arousal spike from practically nonexistent to near-climax in mere moments. She fought to restrain herself from moaning aloud. For his part, Tsukune experienced the same sudden spike in arousal; his, however, was accompanied by the sights, sounds, and tactile sensations of the moment inner Moka bit him – the moment they shared climax. The young man barely avoided ruining his trousers or springing a leak from his nose.Moka yanked her head back a bit. “S-Sorry… I… I didn’t know that would happen.”When he could speak again, Tsukune asked, “Wha… What was that all about?”“I can explain,” answered Moka, only half-lying, “but it’s… kinda personal. I’d rather tell you in private." Seizing the opportunity, she improvised, “Why don’t you, ah, come over to my room after Newspaper Club? We can talk then, and afterward we can study for our biology midterm next week.”Tsukune swallowed. Did she just invite me to her room? he marveled. Calm down, Tsukune; it’s just to study, he steadied himself. Aloud, he told her, “Sure… that sounds great. I, uh, really look forward to… studying with you.” The young man favored his most-desired girl with a broad grin.“Oh, Tsukune!” murmured the pink-haired beauty as she leaned towards him.“Moka,” he whispered back, hoping to kiss her but fearing she’d just bite his neck as always.“Don’t you dare drink his blood this morning, Moka!” cried Kurumu, breaking the trance and interrupting the moment as usual. The succubus dashed towards them and tackled Tsukune, her more-than-ample bosom covering his mouth and nose and thus smothering him. She didn’t notice his face turning blue from asphyxiation as she scolded the vampire, “Don’t you know it’s not good for him to be constantly drained by you for your breakfast?”Moka glared. “I wasn’t this time. Honest!” she protested.“Then what were you doing?” asked Mizore, who appeared from behind a nearby bush.“Well…”“You were trying to kiss my Tsukune, weren’t you?” gasped Kurumu.“He’s not your Tsukune,” retorted Moka.“That’s right,” Mizore agreed. “He’s mine.”“Think again, snow-skank!” shouted the succubus. “Once I have my date with Tsukune, you’ll see!” Trapped in her embrace, the suffocating Tsukune flailed his arms uselessly.“I was here first!” whined Moka.“I’m going to make babies with Tsukune,” claimed Mizore in deadpan earnest. The three monster girls stared each other down. Each knew of only one way to settle their differences in these arguments: they stood in a circle and waved their clenched fists up and down. Freed from Kurumu’s embrace, Tsukune lay stunned on the ground, gasping for air, his senses reeling. At this point, Yukari arrived and, upon seeing the other three girls engaged in their battle for supremacy, rolled her eyes. With a wave her wand, she helped Tsukune to his feet and dusted him off. “There,” she chirped, “that’s better.”“Thanks, Yukari,” Tsukune said. “Are you going to join the scrum now?”“No thanks,” replied the witch. “I guess I don’t feel like I have anything to prove. I know exactly how you feel about me,” she explained with a saucy wink.Catching her drift, Tsukune flushed. To the other three, he pled, “Will you guys cut it out? We’re going to be late.”Moka, Kurumu, and Mizore paused in between strikes. “Just answer us this, Tsukune,” demanded Mizore. “Who gets the next date with you?”“Obviously, I do,” asserted Kurumu, “now that he dated Moka. I was here next.”“But I didn’t go!” the vampire pointed out. “It was the other me.”“Doesn’t matter,” sniffed the succubus.“The order we met him doesn’t matter either,” commented Yukari. “After all, I got the first date.” And more, she added silently.“And he then asked me,” emphasized Moka. “Just because the other me interfered doesn’t change the fact that Tsukune owes me a date.” She took one of his arms.“I’m not waiting another week for my turn!” Kurumu argued, taking Tsukune’s other arm.“I can wait as long as I need to,” cooed Mizore, “because I know Tsukune will choose to be with me forever, especially once we have children.”“Well,” interjected the human boy over whom they argued, “Moka already asked me to study with her tonight. So, Kurumu, we can do something this weekend.” He grinned at them, hoping that such a win-win would satisfy them.“I should’ve known,” grumbled Kurumu, “that you’d already swooped in for the steal.”“Afraid you won’t get your date, milk-cow?” teased Yukari. The succubus didn’t respond, but her expression signaled that the witch had hit the proverbial nail on the head.“Don’t be,” soothed Tsukune. “I promised all of you one date each. I intend to keep that promise,” he reassured them. Before Kurumu could say anything, the bell rang and rendered them all late for class. The five friends scrambled for their classroom, where they knew Ms. Nekonome awaited. The feline grammar and literature teacher took a dim view of tardies, they knew, outside of special circumstances. They braced themselves for her wrath.~~~~~The members of the Newspaper Club were sitting around the club room after classes, busily folding copies of this month’s Yokai Gazette. This issue was set for distribution at the end of the week, so all the club members were working on this one task; usually they worked on tasks solo or in pairs, depending on what needed to be done. Tsukune found hiself looking forward to days like this, where he could spend time with all four girls without feeling as though he were excluding anyone or pushing anyone away.“Can you believe Ms. Nekonome?” wailed Kurumu. “Assigning students a three-page essay just for being late? There oughta be rules against that sort of thing – it’s cruel and unusual!”“At least it’s about something fun,” Yukari pointed out with her ever-present cheerfulness. “Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats is one of my favorites!”“I’m just glad it’s not due until next week,” intoned Mizore. “The home economics project to make curry will probably take me all week.” She sighed. “I hate cooking. Why does it have to involve so much heat?”“I’m sure it’ll be great, Mizore,” Tsukune assured her, bringing a small smile to the ice-demon’s lips.“I love cooking,” Kurumu interjected, “and I’m good at it. Home ec is my best subject.”“More like your only good subject,” teased Yukari. The succubus shot her a look. “What does it matter? I’m not going to university anyway, because Tsukune and I will be getting married and starting a family.” She sidled closer to the object of her affections. “If the only things I’m good at are the ones that will make me the perfect housewife for Tsukune, that’s fine by me.”The young man blinked, not quite sure what to say in response. The sentiment is sweet, but she’s kinda putting all her eggs in one basket, he mused. I guess that’s how succubi have to be, with their whole “Mate of Fate” thing. While Tsukune was lost in thought, Mizore snorted. “You’re going to be really disappointed when he chooses me to bear his children,” she scoffed. Blushing a little, she added, “I hope we can get started soon.”Moka regarded her with shock. “What? What about graduating? Don’t you want to finish high school?”A noncommittal shrug constituted the response. “I’m not doing much better than Boob-zilla over there,” she explained, which earned her another glare. “The only reason I’m even in school is to be near Tsukune.”“Isn’t there more to life than that?” asked Yukari. “I mean, I’m looking forward to being Tsukune’s mistress as much as you guys, but I also want some things for myself – a degree from university, maybe graduate study, and definitely a career.”“Well, I guess part of me has always wanted to be a spy,” answered Mizore.“My mom stays at home,” Tsukune chimed in. “There’s nothing wrong with that.” Kurumu beamed and Mizore smiled softly on hearing that.“What about you, Moka?” asked Yukari, taking the opportunity to admire her gorgeous, would-be paramour.“I guess I’ve always thought I’d go to university,” the vampire replied. “Then again, it’s not like I’d need to. Father is a powerful and influential vampire lord, and he looks out for his girls.” Tsukune paled on hearing that, fearful of how Lord Shuzen – for reasons unknown, Moka did not bear the same surname – would react to his beloved daughter falling for him, a puny human. I mean, assuming that she feels about me how I feel about her, he thought glumly. I’m pretty sure she does, sometimes, but other times it seems too good to be true. Moka is way outta my league. All four of them are, really.“I hope I didn’t scare you!” Moka interjected into Tsukune’s doubts.“Well, maybe he won’t kill me since I’m your friend,” replied the puny-feeling human boy with a nervous laugh.“I’m sure the other me will gladly vouch for you too,” added the outer persona, trying assuage his fears, “especially when she explains how it was your idea to let her out more often.”“Wait, what?” cried a very alarmed Kurumu.Tsukune flushed; Moka, however unintentionally, had given him the opportunity he’d sought all afternoon to broach the subject. “I thought we could let her out for a week each month, maybe. I mean, we only call her when we need her to save us. What kind of friends does that make us?”“What’s this ‘we’ business?” scoffed Kurumu. “You’re the only one who can take off that rosary.”Yukari giggled. “When you put it like that,” she pointed out, “it implies that Tsukune should make that decision unilaterally.”“It’s a decision that would impact the whole group,” the lone young man replied. “Especially the Club – she could contribute new ideas for articles, or even write some. Besides,” he continued softly, “she seems… lonely… like she could use some great friends.” He fixed Kurumu, Yukari, and Mizore with a meaningful look.Cheeks stained pink, Yukari said, “You know I won’t mind if inner Moka hangs out with us.”“Only if she promises not to kick our asses all the time,” conceded Mizore. The snow-woman regarded Moka gently. “I… know what it’s like to be lonely,” she explained, “but also what a difference having friends can make. Inner Moka helped me live my life, so the least I can do is help her do the same.”Tsukune nodded in thanks and rested his gaze on Kurumu, whose face was set in a pensive expression. The buxom young woman sighed. “The snow-skank’s right,” she finally managed. “She’s saved our lives so many times. Even though I don’t want to compete with yet another love rival, I owe her the chance to try to win you.” Tsukune beamed.Within the rosary, the silver-haired Moka blinked in surprise. It seems I misjudged those three, she mused. They’ll do anything to make Tsukune happy, even if it decreases their odds of victory. She smiled tightly to herself. Not that they had a chance against me in the first place.Outer Moka grinned at the other girls, though her smile was tinged with sadness. “I know she’ll really appreciate it,” she told them.“It’s the right thing to do,” added an earnest Tsukune. “I’m glad you’re on board.”At that point, the bell rang to signal five o’clock, the end of post-class-club time. The five of them put the newspapers they’d managed to fold into boxes and deposited those boxes into the club-room cabinets. The teenagers retrieved their outside shoes from their cubbies and exited the main class building, saying their goodbyes for the day.____________________________________________________________________________________________
A/N: As promised, the first chapter of this installment of my R+V series. I plan on updating this story once weekly on Fridays. I've also started on the next installment of the series, but due to the impending resumption of classes in a few weeks, my writing time will become much more limited. I won't upload that story until it's complete, like I've been doing with all my R+V fics.
