Disclaimer: I by no means own the rights to Sailor Moon. (Sure wish I did thought) This story is for fun only. |
Author’s Note: Okay, so I’m changing things up a bit regarding powers. I originally wanted this to be a retelling of Season 1. Now however, I’m just throwing that out the window. Like a lot of my writing, I tend to just let my creativity take over and this story is proving that. I’m sure you’ve already noticed I’m combining the anime and the manga in terms of attacks and names. I kind of like doing that. Hope you’re enjoying the story so far!

Chapter 9
Ami sighed as she stood outside of school waiting on Serena and the others. She was nervous about the upcoming training this weekend. Serena and Darien had talked and figured that the weekends would be easier for everyone. Darien knew the perfect place where they could train in not just hand-to-hand but could work with their powers as well.
“Hey Ami.” Lita greeted.
“Hey.” Ami smiled, pushing thoughts of the training from her mind.
“I’m sorry you, Rei and Serena can’t come with me, Mina, Kunzite and Nephelite this weekend. I tried to get more tickets, but they were sold out for the convention.” Lita apologized.
Ami just smiled. On Sunday Lita had told them how she had won four tickets for a food and fashion convention in Osaka. Mina had been with her when Lita won them and before Lita knew it, she was inviting Mina, Kunzite and Nephelite.
“No need to apologize Lita.” Serena said, walking up. “Me, Ami and Rei have made plans anyway. I think it’s great you and Mina are getting time to get to know Nephelite and Kunzite better.”
“You guys sure you’re not mad?” Mina asked.
“Why would we be?” Ami shrugged. That convention seems right up your alleys. There will be other conventions us five can go to together in the future.”
“When are you guys leaving?” Serena asked, as they left school and headed to meet Rei at the Crown café.
“Kunzite is picking us up right after school on Friday and we catch the bullet train at four.” Mina answered.
Ami listened to her two friends tell them about their weekend plans. As she did, memories of the past and present filled her mind. With each day, more and more of her past was emerging. She now remembered how she and Zoisite had met the first time. It had been during the first visit of the Earth royal family. Endymion had been thirteen and Serenity had been ten.
Yet even in that memory, the Prince and Princess were still not clear. They were merely hazy figures in the background. When she had met Zoisite, she had felt a kindship with the young General. Just as she did now.
‘I wish I could remember more. I feel a bit left out that I am the only one who does not remember everything.’ She thought sadly.

Mintour closed the doors of the shop. Night was beginning to fall over the city. When Pyrite had sent him here for his mission, he knew when it was time to engage the Scouts, he would not do so in broad daylight. No, nightfall suited him better. Gave him more of an advantage. Especially since he now knew that Sailor Mercury was the weak link. Slipping out back, he leapt to the roof and surveyed the city.
Where to spring his trap? Hm, yes, the park. The one with the lighted fountains. Mintour knew in early evening it was full of people. What better way to both collect more energy for the Nega Verse and take on the Scouts. Using the encroaching night, he moved from rooftop to rooftop in direction of the park. Reaching his destination, he smiled, dropping his human façade.

Serena, Ami and Rei waved to Mina and Lita as they left the café. “Alright Ami, what’s wrong?”
“I’m just…nervous about this weekend.” Ami replied sadly.
Rei put an arm around her friend, “Ami, you have nothing to be nervous about. We’ll be right there with you. We want to help. That’s the whole point of this training.”
“I know that Rei. I just feel like a failure. I don’t seem to have the fighting instincts that you two have. Why was I even chosen?” Ami sighed.
“You were chosen because of who you are.” Serena said as they entered the park.
The sounds of screams caught their attention. There in the center of the park was a youma. It had the torso of a human except for the large horns on either side of its head. The lower half looked like that of a bull.
“Oh god. That thing looks like a minitour.” Ami gasped as the ducked into a cluster of trees.
“Let’s get to work girls. Moon Prism Power!”
“Mars Power!”
“Mercury Power!”
Once transformed, the three ran from the trees to confront the youma. Once they were spotted, the youma fired flames from his hands, causing them to scatter. Sailor Moon rolled and landed on her feet. To her left was Mars and Mercury was to her right.
“Well, well. The Sailor Scouts.” Mintour sneered. “Let’s see what you little girls have got?”
Lifting his hands over his head, ribbons of energy began swirling. The ribbons started spinning and forming into a large ball. Mintour hurled the ball toward the Scouts. As the attack neared, the ball split into three and each one charged at one of the Scouts. Mercury’s eyes widened as the ball charged at her.
She dove out of the way. However, she saw the attack circle around and head back her way. “Mercury Bubbles Blast!”
As the fog surrounded her, Mercury used her visor and micro computer to begin analyzing the situation. What she saw had her worried. The energy spheres were designed to target herself, Mars and Moon. They would continue to come after them until they destroyed the one that was targeting them. Almost like a heat seeking missile.
Mercury cried out as she was hit from behind and sent flying. Landing hard on the ground, she groaned and managed to roll onto her back. Her Mercury bubbles were fading, and the energy sphere was flying toward her again.

Mintour watched gleefully as Mercury struggled to her feet and managed to leap out of the way at the last minute. He also saw that Moon and Mars were too far to be of any aide to their friend. Yes, he would succeed where others had failed. He was brought from his observations by a column of fire speeding toward him. Growling, he jumped out of the way.
“Who the hell are you?” Mintour demanded of the man standing before him.
“I’m the one who is going to kick your ass.” Jadeite answered, flames engulfing his hands.
Mintour wasted no words and summoned his own attack. He and Jadeite fired at the same time. Their attacks collided in a brilliant explosion, causing both to look away. Mintour grunted when Jadeite crashed into him from his left side, sending them crashing into nearby trees.
~0000~
Mars and Moon were running side by side trying to escape their spheres. “Got an idea.”
“Spit it out Moon!” Mars panted.
“We split up then run at each other. At the last second we dive out of the way.” Moon explained.
“Great we play chicken and hope these damned things hit.” Mars hissed, glancing over her shoulder.
“You got any better ideas?” Moon demanded.
“Screw it, let’s go.” Mars agreed.
She and Moon changed direction, putting distance between them. After a few moments, they turned and started running full speed toward each other from opposite sides. Both women had looks of determination in their eyes. Moon glanced right signaling for Mars to left. Mars nodded. When they were only a foot apart, Mars dove left and Moon dove right.
The spheres that had been chasing them however did not deviate and hit. They exploded in a bright light and smoke. When the smoke faded, the spheres were no more. Moon and Mars sighed in relief and got back to their feet.
“You alright?” Mars asked.
“Yeah. You?” Moon nodded.
“Where’s…oh no! Mercury’s in trouble.”
Moon looked over and saw Mercury dodging her sphere. She then saw Jadeite and Mintour fighting. “So is Jadeite.”
Before they could decide who was helping who, Mercury cried out in pain as the sphere slammed into her back. Moon and Mars took off for her. As they got closer, Mars summoned her flames and fired.
“Mars Fire Ignite!”
The flames hit the sphere, sending it flying off over the trees. Moon knelt beside Mercury, “Mercury? Mercury can you hear me?”
“Sai…lor Moon?” Mercury gasped painfully.
“Sshh. Don’t move.” Moon replied.
“Sailor Moon it’s coming back. Get her out of here.” Mars ordered moving in between Moon and the oncoming sphere.
Sailor Moon hated leaving Mars but knew her friend and Scout would be fine. She was about to gather Mercury in her arms when two voices entered the fray. Moon sighed in thankfulness at hearing them.
“Glacial Freeze!”
“Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber!”
The two attacks combined and hit the sphere dead center. Moon felt herself and Mercury being covered from the light and smoke. When it faded, the sphere was gone. Moon let out a breath before focusing on Mercury. Mercury’s eyes were closed in pain.
“Sailor Mercury, open your eyes.”
“Sailor Mercury!” Zoisite cried dropping to his knees beside her.
When Jadeite cried out, Moon and Mars looked up. Moon was growing angry. First Mercury was hurt and now Jadeite. Oh, to hell with that. Passing Mercury over to Zoisite, she and Mars shared an angry look before charging into the fight with Mintour.
Sailor Moon felt her power building as she ran for Mintour. Without thinking, she focused on it. She suddenly felt something appear in her hand and knew instantly what it was. The power coursing through her was incredible, and she would question it later. Right now, she and Mars had a job to do.
“Mars Fire Ignite!”
“Moon Tiara Stardust!”
Mintour screamed as their combined attacks hit him. “No! NO! I can’t be defeated!”
“Fuck you asshole!” Sailor Moon cried, raising the scepter she now held. “Moon Princess Halation!”
She narrowed her eyes as the beam from the scepter flew toward the youma. Mintour screamed as the power of the scepter engulfed him. Slowly his cries faded, and he disappeared in a swirl of smoke. Sailor moon lowered her scepter and turned to face Mars, who was helping Jadeite to his feet.
“Damn, remind me to never piss you off.” Jadeite joked, then wincing holding his ribs.
“You’re hurt.” Mars said worriedly.
“It’s not bad, just a bruised rib or two.” Jadeite breathed.

In the shadows, the second youma Pyrite had sent watched. She had managed to collect the energy Mintour had gathered and sent it on to Pyrite for Beryl. She continued to study the fight with Mintour. What had intrigued her, was the power that Sailor Moon had just displayed.
‘Hmm. She appears more powerful than we suspected. Where did she get that scepter?’ she thought. Suddenly an idea hit her. ‘No, it can’t be. Could she be…I better go tell Pyrite.’ She snapped her fingers and disappeared.
~0000~
Ami groaned as she opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Zoisite. “Zoi…”
“Sshh. Just relax baby. You’re safe.” Zoisite smiled, stroking her cheek.
“What happened?” Ami asked.
“You passed out at the park after that sphere hit you. Me and Darien destroyed it. Just before Darien started healing you, you passed out. Serena took care of the youma. Quite spectacularly I might add.” He answered.
Guilt started sinking in. Ami rolled onto her side away from Zoisite as the tears began. Zoisite said nothing, just rubbed her back. It was as if he could sense what she was thinking, feeling. Perhaps he could. That only made her feel more guilty.
“Ami, talk to me.’ He insisted.
“I…failed…her.” She cried.
“Failed who?”
“My Princess.”
Zoisite sighed. It seemed now Ami remembered everything. He also knew, this was not something he could help her with. Only Serena could do that. He slipped off the bed in Darien’s guest room and walked out quietly. He entered the living room and found the others.
“She remembers now.” Was all he said.
Serena stood from where she was sitting on Darien’s lap. “Zoisite, what are you not saying?”
“Serena, she feels that she failed you today.” Zoisite answered sadly.
Serena said nothing as she headed for the bedroom. Serena silently slipped into the guest room and her heart broke at what she saw. Ami was curled up on the bed, crying into the pillow. Serena moved to the bed and sat behind her friend. She felt Ami tense when she pulled her close and lay her head on her lap.
“Ami, talk to me.” Serena said, stroking her hair.
“I failed you Princess. I…I couldn’t fight…” Ami sobbed.
“Oh, my sweet Ami.” Serena breathed. “You have not failed me.”
“I did. I couldn’t defend myself. I’m not a warrior like my mother Queen Aquaria.”
“Ami, that’s because we were born in a time of peace in the Silver Millennium. Your mother felt it was unnecessary then to focus on your fighting skills. However, from the stories my mother told, you have a gift your mother didn’t.”
“What’s that?”
Serena eased Ami up, so she was sitting and looking into her eyes, “Yes your mother was a warrior, but she didn’t have your skills or gift of analyzing a situation. I honestly believe that you do have your mother’s fighting nature, we just have to tap into it. We will do that this weekend. You will have me, Rei, Darien, Jadeite and Zoisite there to help you.”
Ami wiped her tears, “Do you really think I have the fighting strength of my mother?”
“I do Ami. I feel it. Now, let’s go out there. The others are worried about you. Especially Zoisite.” Serena smiled.
Ami nodded and followed Serena out of the room. When they reached the living room, Zoisite walked to her and pulled her into his arms. It felt so natural to be in his arms. She drew on his strength and looked to the others.
“I’m sorry I fell apart.” Ami said.
“Ami, you don’t have to apologize.” Rei replied. “I’m just glad your memories have fully returned like the rest of ours.”
“I wonder why it took longer though?” Jadeite questioned.
“I think it was because of me.” Ami answered.
“What do you mean Ami?” Darien inquired.
“You see, in the past, becoming Sailor Mercury was my birthright. I knew from the age of four that was my destiny. This time, it was such a shock to my system that I think my brain just kicked into protective mode. Letting the past return gradually.” Ami explained.
“Hmm, if so, then in theory we could maybe use that in training this weekend. Like I told you, I believe you have the same fighting spirt as your mother. If we can find a way for you to mentally tap into that…” Serena began.
“Then I should mentally unlock that.” Ami agreed, her eyes widening.
“Jadeite and I could help you on that front. After all, our powers as Generals require mental concentration.” Zoisite added.
Ami felt the feeling of failure lift at those words. “Then I will be grateful for any help you two can offer.”

Pyrite swirled the glass of wine he held as he thought over what Shimmer had reported to him after the battle. His mind working to process it and formulate his next move. Yes, he still wanted to stick to his plan of sending two youma at once. One to watch and report, the other as the sacrificial lamb. While initially he was going to send Shimmer out next and call forth another youma to replace her, he had changed his mind.
Shimmer may not be his strongest fighter she was however impeccable at details. Yes, he would keep her as his eyes and ears out there. Shimmer had reported in exacting detail what had happened during Mintour’s fight with the Scouts, Tuxedo Mask and the Generals.
‘So, Tuxedo Mask has an attack besides those damned roses and his cane. Interesting. If what Shimmer said about Sailor Moon is true, this both complicates things and ups the ante. I will wait to report this to Beryl.’ He thought taking a sip of wine.
“Marksman, I summon you!” he called.
“Yes, Master Pyrite.” Marksman said, bowing.
“It is your turn to serve me. Mintour succeeded in collecting energy for our Queen and Supreme Ruler. However, he failed to eliminate the Scouts and Generals.”
“Understood Master.” Marksman nodded. “I will succeed. I have never missed my target and will not do so now.”
“Then go and do not fail me.” Pyrite ordered. Marksman bowed and vanished. Once gone, Shimmer stepped out of the shadows. “Shimmer, follow him. I want you to watch and observe. Before we report your suspicions to Beryl, we must prove them.”
“Yes Master. I will report what I see. Shall I try to uncover the identities of the Scouts, Generals and Tuxedo Mask for you?”
Pyrite thought it over a moment, “Only if it is not when Marksman is working on his mission. Marksman may try to engage them sooner than Mintour did.”
Shimmer bowed and disappeared. Pyrite stood from the chair and walked to the window of the mansion. The sun was just setting behind the trees. He polished off the wine and headed upstairs. He would rest before he planned anymore.
