Ahh! Nooo! I dun want Katze to get terminated... :: sniffle sniffle :: I'm sad to see this finished, though it does lead to a new beginning like your note said. Though I really am sad. It has been an excellent story and full of ups and downs. Though I hope to see more in the future... Best wishes.

    (38) There's always been something off about Jupiter, it never felt right but I hadn't really thought about just how creepy it is. Hearing how it kept and used children though definitely gives it a creep factor. (i know, creep factor, not very eloquent but i think you get the point ;) I can't wait to see what becomes of it in the next part, does something happen to make a change or is it too big and too entrenched to fail, updates can't come soon enough :)

It's amazing as you read how everything seems so mundane and everyday and yet you can feel the tension building because you're waiting for it to all come crashing down. And then the end when everything changes and you knew it would it was only a matter of time and it seems that Katze knew it too. So as I feared no happy ending but at least there's another part to look forward to, whether good or bad I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

And something that really isn't about the story but your author notes because I did love what you said about the original.^^ I always thought it was the relationships and connections the characters had to each other and how all their different lives wove together to create the story that we saw, it was always too complex to just be about yaoi. This is something that you captured really well with your own story, while the guys were always hot and sexy you never lost sight of the fact that that wasn't what it was about, it was their lives whether glamorous or rough and how they managed to (or not) come together. And while we all wish for happy endings, in this universe it isn't really made for that and sadly if your going to get a happy ending you have to work for it and even then they aren't guaranteed.

I get the feeling that something big is going to happen, what that something is I wouldn't even begin to guess but I can't wait to see what the next part entails :) As always I hope everything's going good at your end and I will certainly be waiting to see what you have in store for us next ^_^

I think we both knew that this would be a Not Happy Jan chapter, but I have to admit that I didn’t think I would be as upset as I was by it.

Now, I am not saying the writing wasn’t brilliant, or that you shouldn’t have gone there. As an author you have a story to write and can write it anyway you like. But the ending here cut into an emotional level that I know I try to avoid. I’m the one who reads the ends of books to make sure I ‘like it’ or can cope with it. I know that in RL there are no Happily ever afters, which is why I like my stories to at least have characters satisfied where they ended up.
We can even go and say that in ANK itself Riki and Iason died, what’s satisfying about that? And my reply is, yes they died, but in their final moments, they found each other. They came together as equals and so even though they died and it was tragic at least they were together in the end.

So why has this ending killed me.....because it is utterly devoid of hope. Katze said in an earlier chapter “You’ll all close ranks!” He expects nothing from anyone. He doesn’t believe that Raoul would flout the A1. Iason is handing him over. Donavon is loyal, but a mongrel and no power where he is going. And Admon….well question mark indeed. We know that Admon will do what he can, but it is too early in the chapter to impact on the end, and Katze doesn’t have a clue.

Katze at that ending, has become a victim being marched off by a Blondie Nazi to an Auschwitz knowing his time is up. And what really nailed it was everything was fine. He and Raoul had reached a place of real understanding. The sun was shining. And for once everything seemed right in his world.

And then the bomb dropped and the story ended.
As I once said to you, if this was a beginning and not an ending, I would have sat back to enjoy the story, waiting for that satisfying ending.

Instead it’s the ending. And even though another story is coming. It doesn’t change the fact that at the end here, there is no hope, no smirk, no bravado. Katze walks off with Iason almost in a catatonic state. He has shut himself off, a dead man walking….exactly the kind of endings I try to avoid at all costs…..
    “sigh”

I find myself agreeing with you on looking at AnK as not a yaoi fic. I've always found the characters to be my main focus never the fact of who their love interests were (okay so maybe that's not completely true ;p)

    That being said...

This new beginnings comment at the end, does that mean that in Riki and Iason's story Katze and Raoul's story will continue on?? I hope so lol you just cant leave a gal hang'n like this!

And also, is Riki and Guy experiments also? Or did i totally misread that?

I cant wait for the next story! made my day when i was this was updated :D thanks so much :)

    (37) Atmosphere is one of my favourite things about a story especially when it's done well and the beginning of this chapter and the description of Raoul's world was perfectly wonderful :) Then we also have the dialogue which I adore and I think one of your strengths, really I would have a difficult time picking a favourite between the two ^_^

I was trying to think of something to say about Donovan and Guy but really all I came up with was - Finally :) I did love Guy sitting and appreciating Donovan, even if he had only admitted it to himself it's nice that he acknowledged the attraction. Although personally I'm glad Donovan got to hear and who knows maybe that helped make up his mind to give himself to Guy.

It's interesting that it was Raoul who wanted the change in eye colour and not Niiro just doing it to look like Katze and get Raoul's attention, talk about going out of your way for a crush. It's actually a little sad that they've been pining for each other for so long and yet because of society have been unable to act on it and now that they have finally been able to I'm a little afraid it's going to turn into one of those tragic romances.

I dread the final chapter and yet I'm anxious for it, I keep telling myself to trust you but the ending of this chapter was more than enough to make me feel a sense of dread for what's about to happen. While I give Iason points for allowing Katze and Raoul to have some time, I would have hoped he would find a way to work this out without either of them getting hurt or risking his tenuous relationship with Riki because he's right about what would happen if he ever found out. Here's crossing my fingers that you like happy endings even though I know that in the AnK universe those seem to be hard to come by.

On a happier note I hope you and your family have a great long weekend and a Happy Thanksgiving! ^_^

It's so hard to believe that the next chapter will be the last one. The question is how will the story end?
I know that ultimately what you decide will be right for your characters, you know better, so no pressure. Their fate is in your hands.
P.S. Thank you so much for your hard work on this wonderful story, your time and this incredibly touching dedication, which means so much to me.
    With all my heart,

If this chapter is all about perspective, then mine is that Iason Mink is one of the coldest, hard hearted pricks around, without one sense of loyalty to anyone but himself. He might be ‘the’ Elite’, but in the scheme of things he is an opportunist of the first order, and gladly protects his own back without thought or care for his ‘gang’. For all he looks down his nose at Guy, at least I know that Bison and Guy would stand to the man to protect their own. Whereas, Iason knows that if Riki finds out, he will be furious and unforgiving. He knows again that Raoul who has watched his back from the beginning will walk away from him. And practically, he also knows that Katze would expect no better from him. If it was Riki, he would be working around the clock trying to come up with every scheme in the book to save him, but this is Katze, and for him an easy throw away...unless there is something else here you are not saying and keeping for that last chapter.....which of course is another issue....

Because if the next chapter is the last one, it would have to be one huge ass thing to cover everything properly. And I have to admit, I am seeing a hanging ending at this stage....An Empire Strikes Back scenario, or worse “A Lady or the Tiger” ending.....so as we say here....”Not Happy Jan”. . .

So other than your Iason and the impossible ending, the rest of the chapter in regard to certain characters was pure magic. The juxtaposition of the poetry from Raoul’s and Katze’s room to the earthy feelings from Donavon and Guy really brought everything to completion in the emotion department. They’ve all grown since the beginning, and have come to trust and be honest with each other. Which again is miles away from where the traitorous Mink is with his mongrel.

I’m not going to touch Sir UP His Ass’s mechanizations here. Similar to Iason, he wants to kill the Kat, to protect his own back. And except for the fact that he is a loud mouth and Iason is stone quiet, I’m finding them too similar at the moment as they both move towards their current goal.

The only thing amiss in Iason’s plan is he forgot one little thing. Deek. So the question now becomes, does Deek have enough loyality to Raoul to tell him before Katze walks out that door that Iason was there this morning...And if given that information would Raoul take it into consideration, and keep Katze by his side, or tell him to get Donavon to collect him. Or does Deek remain silent, because he can’t stand the upstart Ex Furniture and let things just happen....because it’s safer to stay quiet.
So, if your purpose was to disturb, upset, and leave me tense and miserable, you’ve done a wonderful job....::wink::

I would have never expected Iason to be the one to split Raoul and Katze up! To think that with all the trouble he went through to keep Riki he would come between them....sad :< Please say they will have a happy ending?

    Hello, dear author !
First of all, I would like to thank you for this wonderful story! Your writing style is amazing!
I have seen the portrait of Katze (by Kir-Tat), you mentioned, and it`s really impressive, absolutely beautiful, but isn't it a little unfair to Raoul not to portray him as well?
To solve this ` injustice` I decided to draw another illustration for the story and…voila…here is my Sir Raoul Am: http://mazarinem.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2zoe2f
This illustration is a gift from me, so feel free if you wish to use it. I hope you`ll like it (and sorry for my English, I'm trying to improve)

    (36) Let's just see how many names Katze can come up with for Niiro, I don't know which one I like better, jerk off or up-his-ass they both seem rather appropriate ^_^

Poor wishy-washy Katze one minute it's 'I really must leave', then the next minute it's 'well if you insist I'll stay', not that I blame him Raoul does have some really nice incentives to get him to stay ;) And speaking of incentives, I actually had to stop reading after '...do they involve the laying on of pipe and general despoiling?' so I could snicker and giggle to myself (even now looking at it i want to start again^^) just the image of Raoul saying that makes me smile :) I know, it's weird what I find funny in the middle of the night.^^

This should probably come as no surprise but I liked that Katze at least said something to Raoul about the whole commanding thing. Don't get me wrong I get the appeal, wouldn't we all like to be able to just command our partner to stop pouting and move on, would make fighting so much easier but someone can only take so much before it would all end up rather badly. Better that Katze called him on it now so they can both work on things they need to improve upon and if Katze couldn't tell Raoul who would. And speaking of calling it like it is, who hasn't had the 'who snores' argument :)

Admon's observations always bring some interesting insight, you tend to see just what Guy shows to the world but as we're coming to learn there may be more to him than just some slum thug. And I can't believe it but Guy and Donovan actually managed to get to relatively level ground without killing each other, I guess the saying's true, a little forgiveness goes along way :)

I don't know if it's just me but that ending seemed a little ominous but intriguing too and we're finally going to see what Admon's purpose in all this is and just how it will affect everyone. Is there really only two chapters left it makes me excited to see how this all comes to a head but sad that it's almost over. The next couple of chapters will be exciting, I can't wait ^_^

I must say that even the unedited version was brilliantly written. The edited version was icing on the cake. I must also say that even though i've only just found and begun to read your editor Ainzfern's work the both of you can only be called masters in the AnK world.

Don’t think this chapter is as much about forgiveness as finding a safe haven. The cat that has always walked alone would look askew at a warm fire and soft bed if offered to it out of the blue. And it is the same here. Katze can’t accept what Raoul offers because he knows the score. This isn’t about love or trust, but fact. When the showdown comes, he expects the Elites to join forces. To quote from the previous chapter “You’ll all close ranks”. And lets face facts many things said in anger is when the truth comes out. Katze expects Raoul to rejoin the pack, end of story. After all, didn’t Raoul interfere with his tussle with Donovan and yet stood back while he fought with Sir UHA.

“More reason to stay. To be reminded that you have never been alone.”
“Fears when shared are nullified, Katze.

Fine sentiments for Raoul to state, and for the most part true. We know from past revelations, he has always watched out for Katze. But due to his own emotional confusion about it all, has also verbally slayed him at regular intervals.
As to the second quote, what happens when fear stares you right in the face? How far will Raoul go when it comes to facing down Jupiter? Katze is being summoned to Jupiter. And Iason is going to hand him over. Iason lives to serve. So does Iason do the unthinkable and hand over his loyal minion or does that brain of his go into overdrive and try to think of a way around it. Is there enough humanity in him to understand that Riki will not forgive this act. And does Raoul stand on the side, closed ranks and watch Katze being taken. Or does he do what Admon has said all along, and stand side by side with the Chosen One?
Since forgiveness is the theme here, then it goes hand in hand with expectation. Because if Katze is handed over without qualm by either of these fine Elites, he would probably forgive them, because he expects nothing else from them. Again the Cat that walks alone.....

Guy is another issue entirely. All that bluster and insanity hides a fragility that no one suspected was there, except for Admon who has the advantage of seeing into souls. However, it took him some time to make this discovery as well, because before Guy was just the Irrational One. Someone of no consequence, with no logic, easily ignored. Whatever Guy was in the past, and I mean the far past, he only has survival instincts now.

In someways, and he knows it, he is his own worst enemy. Act now, think later. He needs an anchor and also a safe haven...but before he can have it, he has to move beyond his guilt. And knowing Guy, who probably avoided that dark space, he never acknowledged to himself how he felt, and probably couldn’t understand Riki’s attitude toward him. If he can’t forgive himself or accept forgiveness, then how can he become more than what he is? So Admon in his grace, and for reasons of his own gives him that insight. That “I’m sorry” wasn’t just for Donovan to hear, that was also to Riki. Even if never said to him directly, (and lets face it, Riki already knows it, because he knows Guy and has made sure to keep him safe), Guy has begun to move forward.

Donovan being topped.....well almost....and if they make it to the end of this story alive, then yes it is a done deal. Loyality and it would seem his kind was bred for service. By giving himself to Guy, he is forming a new alliance, a new pack, where the order of power has not yet been determined. Donovan although he will always remain Katze’s trusted minder, has moved away from any hidden thoughts concerning the Boss, realizing subconsciously the Blonde Wolf is the chosen mate.

Of course Sir Nii Nii is having a fit, and Ajna is bearing the brunt of it. But once again things are about to happen, and I get the feeling that the twins aren’t going to be in human form for much longer. . .
Well, that’s how I read this chapter......:)

    (35) It's not often I find myself typing out such high chapter numbers, I love when you get a nice long story with so much going on :)

It seems so petty but I took great satisfaction in Katze poking and prodding Niiro^^ And holy Jesus did Katze just get into a bitch fight with Niiro and Raoul just sitting there watching, this night is ending much better than I thought it would ^_^ Although obviously Niiro never stood a chance in any regard really, it was never Niiro it's always been Katze and that must gall Niiro to know end. I did love that Raoul actually said it out loud I completely wasn't expecting it but I'm glad he did, nice little twist :)

But of course the biggest revelation, that it wasn't just DNA that Niiro was fiddling with but whole actual people 0.0 I was also thinking as I read that revealing little bit of information that maybe I should have suspected something especially when you kept referencing the unusual lack of paper work on Katze's birth. Also that it wasn't just Katze either (if i understand right) but Riki and Guy (and others?) could be part of this does make me wonder just how far reaching this information could be and the consequences of it.

Of course you wonder how this will affect everyone but especially Iason and Raoul, depending on how much they knew it could signal rather bad news for them. Almost from the start we've heard about a fall from grace, I wonder if we're going to be getting to the part of the story where we find out just who it is who's going to fall and just how far that fall will be or if maybe they'll all be able to avoid it. You had led us in the direction of Katze because he thought it himself but now everyone is in an uncertain place even if they don't know it yet, even Jupiter is in a precarious position (at least it seems to me).

Seems everything's coming out into the open, can't wait to watch it unfold :) And to end on a nice note, it seems to me Riki and Iason are getting better.^^ They're both still floundering a bit I would think but trying nonetheless, they were even rather sweet at the end there ^_^

Great chapter I really liked this one, probably because we seem to be moving right along but I can't wait for more :)
